Achievement Guide & Road Map

Overview:

-Estimated achievement difficulty: 10/10

-Offline: 13

-Online: 0

-Approximate amount of time to 200http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg: 1+ hours, but VERY dependant on skill.

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1+

-Missable Achievements: None

-Glitched achievements: Maybe [uFO achievement is glitched or just needs clarification]

-Do cheat codes disable achievements: N/A

-Does difficulty affect achievements: No difficulty settings.

If you had one hell of a run, in theory you could get all 13 achievements in one session. Good luck with that though. This may take you hundreds of runs and dozens and dozens of hours, and even then you may fall short of 200 as a few achievements are quite insane.

Introduction:

Doodle Jump makes its premiere on Windows Phone 7 with the same cute visuals, and the same simple, addictive gameplay. Most of the achievements are the same or similar to the Game Center achievements on iPhone. Unfortunately, some of these are brutally tough. This game deserves a 10/10 difficulty as it will take extreme patience, skill, and luck to do things such as avoiding 30 monsters in one game, or bouncing off 30 of them in one go. The game is very fun and highly recommended, with an awesome pick up and play premise. But, completionists beware as 200/200 is near impossible.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

The game has one real basic concept, and that is to keep jumping up and up. Along the way you'll shoot, stomp, or avoid monsters, and collect or jump on powerups to advance quicker and farther. The game has no end as sections will begin repeating itself after awhile. Therefore, you could potentially get all 13 achievements in one go. However, that isn't quite realistic, so you'll likely want to seperate sessions in to certain "runs". An accuracy run, a pacifist one, etc. You may want to dedicate a certain run based around a single achievement.

With the neverending sections that seem to appear in a somewhat random order, this game doesn't have a clear cut route to each achievement, you'll need to make that decision on the fly sometimes as to which ones to go for, and then narrow it down from there.

Themes

The game features six different themes to choose from. While mostly aesthetic, some offer slight changes or nuiances that may aid you to higher scores or more achievements.

Original - The deafult theme with a notebook type look. Contains all of the game's features; monsters, black holes, all powerups, shields, etc. When you get higher up the moving platforms kind of create an eyesore, but that's simply a matter of opinion.

Chirstmas - Otherwise knows as Winter theme. Features snow and other holiday things. Enemies seem a little less frequent, but powerups seem a little more frequent, which could be good for a few achievements.

Graveyard - Calling this "Halloween" would be incorrect, as the iPhone version has Graveyard and Halloween themes. In this one you're dressed as a ghost and it's eerily dark with just a round spotlight around you, in addition to spooky creatures. Very cool looking, but at the same time it makes it hard to see. Not recommended for achievements.

Rainforest - Commonly referred to as the Jungle theme, this features plants and foilage around the screen as well as peaceful weather elements and wil looking monsters. This is the theme of choice for achievements for several reasons. For starters, this lacks many of the things present in other themes; black holes, spring shoes, propeller hats, shields, moveable platforms. This makes the game even more simple and straight forward. Also, monsters seem to be more frequent, possibly to make up for the lack of other features. The more monsters the better when it comes to most of these achievements, and the rainforest is where you can find them. Only downside is the foliage sort of covers up parts of the screen, most notably on the very bottom. Otheriwse, it's the most recommended theme.

Space - Aesethically, this looks great, easier on the eyes. The planetary backdrop looks great, and this theme features the exclusive rocket, which shoots you up even higher than a jetpack! The rocket may be good for high scores, but you likely would have encountered a few enemies had you not taken the rocket, and as mentioned frequency of monsters is important.

Conclusion:

You'll likely walk away from Doodle Jump with about 100/200, but you would be lying if you said you didn't have a blast along the way. "Super Monster Bouncer", "Super Conflict Avoider", and "UFO abduction survivor" are likely the three achievements you will miss. Good luck and have fun!

Jumped with spring shoes without falling

Spring shoes show up periodically along the way. Sometimes, they are required to even proceed any higher. The effect lasts for 5 jumps, so be ready to adjust to the shoes not only on your first bounce, but also when they fall off. Stick to the original theme for this one as some other themes don't feature spring shoes.

Jump on 5 springs in a row

Being as the sections appear in a somewhat random order, you won't know entirely when this is coming, but there are a few instances when this is possible. You can even sometimes do this right from the very beginning of the stage depending on placement. Also, there is a section where you are required to hit 5 consecutive springs to advance upward. As long as you don't bounce on the platform the spring is sitting on you can accomplish this here. You'll likely come across it many times when attempting the more difficult achievements.

Jump on 30 monsters in one game

Yes, you can bounce on the monsters! Like many things in this game, it is even sometimes required to proceed upward. Now just because you are going for 10 and then 30 monsters to bounce on, doesn't mean you should bounce on every one. Sometimes you just have to shoot or avoid them in favor of keeping your run going. Your monster bouncing does you no good if you're dead!

This achievement is very, very difficult. Getting to 10 will be a healthy challenge, whereas 30 is near impossible. Expect to have to score 100-200K+ in order to even come across this many monsters.

The theme you choose is yours, but the Jungle theme seems to be a popular choice. The enemies seem to be more frequent, and there are no black holes.

Like "Super Monster Bouncer", this is insanely difficult. Avoiding is easier than bouncing them, but again you have to sacrifice sometimes and shoot them to ensure you don't die. One mistake and it's over. Again, play on your theme of choice but Jungle seems to be the go-to theme for most things.

Shoot 10 monsters in a row without missing

The description isn't entirely accurate in a good way. You need to land 10 shots in a row, but it can be on less than 10 monsters. Some monsters require 1, 2, or even 5 shots to kill. As long as you don't overshoot or miss you can land 10 straight shots for the achievement. Some of the bigger ones require more shots such as the one that flies up with you. Auto aiming should be the default shooting in this version of the game, so keep that on.

Fly 3 jetpacks in one game

Collect these powerups to proceed higher in the level. Some themes offer advantages/disadvantages to this, such as Jungle which is easier to navigate without worrying about black holes, but completely lack propellers. The Winter theme seems to offer more jetpacks than most themes so if you have trouble with that try switching it up. The rocket in the Space theme DOES NOT count as a jetpack.

Jump past 3 jetpacks without picking them

Sometimes it is very difficult to avoid them, but if you have to you can land on the platform next to a jetpack without touching it if you're careful. It is suggested you try to skip the very first three packs you see, as the fourth pack seems to take an eternity to show up.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1886/+-oUPA==.jpg UFO abduction survivor 60http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Survive UFO abduction

As of this writing, no one has really done this on WP7. A quick search of the internet reveals some who have claimed to have done this on iPhone, as their is a Game Center achievement for it on that platform.

The claims for the Game Center achievement, is to shoot the UFO at the very instance right before being sucked in. So, the animation for getting begins while the shot is in mid-air. This would have to be done VERY quickly, as shots travel fast. Not confirmed

Another theory involves turning your directional aiming to ON rather than Automatic, and (dependent on that theme's type of shot) shoot your shot upwards but slightly angled, hooking the shot above the UFO. As you get sucked in the beam the shot falls and saves you. Not confirmed

Jump past 3 jetpacks without picking them

I was working on that for quite a while and I'm pretty sure now that the first jetpack comes at about 10000, the second at 20000-25000 and the third at 40000. And I think the best way is to avoid them because it might take forever for the fourth to come and if you get there you don't want to miss it...

And I think the UFO is glitched...

Agreed, and I should have mentioned that in the guide. Although sometimes it's hard to time your jump to avoid the jetpack, that fourth one does take forever to show up it seems.

I just wanted to say, it seems that on certain levels there are less monsters, like the snow/christmas level, I don't seem to come across any until about 25-30k, just thinking that could help with getting the achievements like use/aviod 3 jetpacks, as there would be less to worry about.

EDIT: I sure hope that you see the other pm I sent you before reading this so I don't make myself look bad :p

I'll try and see if I can find out a definite amount of jumps from the spring shoes :)

For Serial Springer and Super Serial Springer:

Starting at about 20000 points and then every 90000 the game starts repeating, at that point I very rarely see a large amount of springs collected in the same area that allow for you to easily get these achievements. From personal experience, your best chances of getting these achievements is when your still under, about 15000, I'd say more so under 10000.

The two achievements involving the jet pack:

Personally I would recommend playing on the christmas theme. I haven't been able to confirm this, but having noticed that there's no propeller hats in that theme, I have a theory that they're replaced by jet packs, increasing the total amount of jet packs that you might see in a given amount of time. I haven't been able to replicate it unfortunately (placement seems to become incredibly random:confused:), but at one point I swear I saw 3 jetpacks before getting to 20000 points . The reason I don't sound to confident is that unfortunately I missed grabbing one of the present boxes, so I don't have an achievement to confirm this :(. Did get two though! :D Obviously requires some further investigation.

Conflict Avoider achievements: Just tossing this one in under here, an alternative would be to link to it somewhere in your roadmap maybe... Anyways, I'd highly recommend checking out doodlejump.com. It's a somewhat of community run site by the looks of it (and I don't think it's being maintained anymore), but they provide some of the best tips and tricks I've seen, including how to get around various groups of monsters, which is helpful for both getting up to that 100-300K score and for trying to avoid fighting as many as possible (although they will tell you some that you obviously have to kill). They also have some other general tips which is why I say it might also work just linked from your roadmap.

Hopefully you can get something useful out of that to put towards your guide :)

I have been reading with interest the theories regarding repeating sections. I just obtained Super Serial Springer right at the start of a game. Jungle theme. The first spring was actually on screen when I started, I am sure of it. I wonder if there is a chance for others to get this section right at the start if they play the jungle theme enough? Or was it just outrageous luck? I hope this helps someone, but I also hope that it doesn't spark a wild goose chase. Maybe as we play more we will get a better feel for how random or scripted the game actually is.

For as simple as this game is, some of the concepts are so complicated to explain or decipher! For example, on Jungle theme I usually have 4-8 monsters passed by 20K, but once, I past 15 of them before 18K! [then I died :(]

Getting back to your point though, there was a place within the first 10K where I did this achievment, I wonder if it's the same "section" you did it [but it showed up right away for you], or two entirely different spots.

There is a "section" though where I've repeated this achievement and I can explain it [sorta]:

There's a part where there is a single platform with a spring on the bottom of left the screen. You must spring up blindly to the next platform which is high up and sharply to the right. There's a third back to the left, a fourth back right, and a final one back left. They all have springs and you are required to use all 5 springs to adavance. However...there's a possibility of hitting the platform first before hitting the spring, thus ruining your combo. Inbetween are a few "one-time" platforms, and inbetween platforms 4 and 5 is an orange enemy [jungle theme].

So, anyone comes across this part, you can do it there. Hard to describe some of these places that are so easy to visualize in my head. The fact that this is on a phone and gameplay is constantly in motion makes it near impossible to make a video or screen of this stuff :p

I have hit roughly 15 monsters in a row before 20K on Jungle too. When I hit my five springs in a row, I was using default theme and was lucky enough to have plenty of springs at the beginning. I am in the process of making some videos of achievement strategies using a Flip Video. Obviously Jungle is best for early monsters, Space is good for getting up high in score fast due to jet packs and rockets, and Christmas is good for getting Jet pack achievements because of low monster count. I have failed to get the UFO achievement yet. This game is awesome though!

Hmmmm. Another section related tip, this time for Super Sharp Shooter. Again, in the jungle theme. I had one of those bigger monsters that take five shots. The very next monster that I encountered was the same. That would mean 10 shots in a row. I already had the achievement at this point, but it would have been easier like this!!! Just a qualifier... I have been playing for hours today, mostly in the jungle, and have only seen this happen once. But it does happen. The jungle theme certainly seems to have a lot going for it!

You know what's odd, on my iPhone, there is no "auto-aim" option in this game. That makes the sharpshooter achievement [on Game Center] a tab bit more difficult.

I'll be spending some time on Sunday to clean up my guide just a bit, and add some of everyone's tips where applicable. Until then...I'm going to play some more :D

I think I need help. :) Have been playing this game solid all day. Can't remember the last time I was this addicted to a game.

By the way... Spring Shoes Jumper... it is 5 jumps, including the first one which occurs as soon as you touch them.

Hey pink, a suggestion for the guide for the two 30 monster achievements. First of all, you are correct in that jungle ABSOLUTELY spawns the most monsters. However I have not seen anyone mention to play with the sound ON, and loudly if possible. This allows you to hear both monsters and UFOs far before they are on screen. I got most of the achievements with sound off, but could only get to 75K or so. Playing with sound on allowed me to get the remaining achievements, except for UFO, and easily pushed my score into the 140K range.

Seems simple but some may not realize how helpful the sound is in this game =]

I was thinking of adding something about sound, and I will certainly add what you have mentioned.

On the other hand though, I too played a lot without the sound, and I think that trained me to rely on recognizing the formations of the platforms to know when an enemy was going to appear. Then, whenever I did play with sound, I could rely on my instincts as well as the sound. Also, playing with headphones reeeealy let you recognize when monsters are approaching.

update: added some info on the game's themes in roadmap
