Introduction

Welcome to Sonic Adventure 2! This game has 12 achievements for 400:gsicon: and is the follow-up to its highly-praised predecessor Sonic Adventure. Sonic Adventure 2 makes its return on Xbox Live Arcade with a full cast of playable heroes and villains, exciting 2-player competetive modes, Chaos Gardens, and over 30 action-packed stages all remastered in HD. Gameplay takes place between two different points of view storylines, the Hero story and the Dark story where you have the option of advancing in either one or the other at any time. The Hero story features Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and the non-playable Amy, while the Dark story features Shadow, Rouge, and Doctor Eggman. Each hero character plays similarly to their respective dark character and vice versa. Levels advance in order for each storyline, come between each of the playable characters. With all of these options given the question remains in the fight between heroes and villains. Will you choose to save the world or conquer it?

Step 1: Story Modes

Right from the start you'll want to play Story Mode. As opposed to having each character selectable as in the first Sonic Adventure, the method in which the cast of six are chosen and played was modified to make Sonic Adventure 2 a different experience. When choosing either Hero or Dark the story is presented with the characters rotating through, each stage having a different character as playable to progress the saga. Because of the duality nature of the game, the three pairs of Hero/Dark share very similar controls and objectives with each other. All story-related achievements are:

  • Hello World
  • HERO!
  • DARK!
  • Beyond Good And Evil

Levels featuring Sonic or Shadow are designed in much the same way as they were in Sonic's levels in Sonic Adventure, where your primary objective is simply to get to the end of the level. Levels with Tails or Dr. Eggman allow the player to control a mechanized robot walker and generally blast their way to the end like E-102 Gamma's stages in Sonic Adventure. Knuckles and Rouge are required to scour their levels for shards of the Master Emerald, again, much like Sonic Adventure. Interspersed between the levels are various bosses, which one particular character must fight. As the game can sometimes get confusing, the hint system found within Sonic Adventure returns but instead of being the calming voice of Tikal the words of wisdom have been replaced with a mechanical chao known as Omochao.

Hero Story

Play the Hero side of the game first or Dark, it's up to you. For the Hero side you'll be playing through the eyes of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they attempt to put a stop to Eggman and unveil the truth behind Project Shadow. There are 16 stages in total with boss fights in-between. Upon story completion you will unlock the
HERO!
achievement.

Dark Story

When playing through the Dark Side of Story Mode it'll be through the eyes of Eggman, Shadow, and Rogue. There are 14 stages in total where you'll interchangeably play as the three villain characters attempting to obtain the chaos emeralds to take the world hostage. Upon completion you will unlock the
DARK!
achievement as well as the "Last Story" arc.

Last Story/ Super Sonic

Once both the "Hero" and "Dark" stories are successfully completed, a final "Last" story becomes unlocked on the main screen. When chosen, the Hero and Dark stories finally intertwine and revelations of the true nature of "Project Shadow" finally come to light. The story is only composed of one level, Cannon's Core, and two boss battles. The level is broken up into five separate parts, each played through by one of the main characters, beginning with Tails and ending with Sonic. Upon completion you will then face off against Biolizard as Shadow followed by Final Hazard where the story concludes.
Beyond Good and Evil
will unlock after finishing the Last storyline.

Step 2: Boss Attack and Kart Racing

Once you have completed all Adventures you will unlock a Boss Attack mode pertaining to each side, there are 3 in all. You must clear all of these modes as you defeat every Boss in each story and all 18 of them from the whole game. You will receive a clear time at the end. Another new mode introduced to Sonic Adventure 2 is Kart Racing which unlocks upon clearing Tails and Rouge's Route missions. You must clear the Expert race in 1st place to unlock Speed Racer. Both achievements related to these modes include:

  • Boss Attack
  • Speedy Racer

Step 3: Chao World

Sonic Adventure 2 also sees the return of Chao, the small, water-shaped A-life first introduced in the game's predecessor. For the sequel, the entire Chao raising experience has been completely revamped and expanded. As there are no Adventure Fields, the only way to enter the Chao Gardens in the main game is to find one of three Chao Containers located in each level, the first always holding a Chao Key. Upon clearing said stage you'll be warped to Chao World, the portal to the rest of the Chao experience in the game. Though at first only the standard Chao Garden is available, as time in the garden goes on, a "Hero Garden" and "Dark Garden" also become available. Luckily you won't have to do anything too strenuous other than naming a Chao, raising its stats to 10, as well as raising a Hero, Dark, and Adult Chao to complete the main game. For starters, Chao Island is a wonderful site to use if you're new to everything Chao. Here are all achievements related to Chao:

  • Chao!
  • Chao Raiser
  • Beyond Good and Evil

Step 4: Emblems

There are a total of 180 emblems in the game connected to a variety of tasks. These tasks include: completing each story, finishing each of the 5 missions for every stage, playing through a boss rush for each side, as well as winning Chao races. Despite there being 180 emblems, you do NOT have to obtain them all in order to get 400:gsicon: for this game but you will need all of them for the DLC. That said, you'll probably end up with around 170 emblems just by going for the You Are A Legend achievement. You will more than likely obtain 90 emblems for the Emblem Collector achievement naturally while earning A-Ranks in Stage Select Mode. More on A-Ranks can be found in the next step. Below is the only achievement geared towards emblems for the main game:

  • Emblem Collector

Step 5: A-Ranks

This step will be very time-consuming as you must clear every all 5 missions for all 31 stages in the game with an A-Rank. That's a total of 155 missions. After completing a stage in Story Mode the option to play through it at the your leisure becomes available at Stage Select Mode. There are 5 objectives per stage in the game and you will be graded based on how well you did upon clearing them. There are also emblems tied to every mission you get an A-Rank for. Achievements earned by obtaining A-Ranks include:

  • Mission Complete
  • Emblem Collector
  • You Are The Legend

Step 6: Battle DLC

For this step you will need to download the Battle DLC upgrade that updates the game to 500:gsicon:. It bears 3 achievements that require you to play all Level 4 multiplayer stages, clear Chao Karate, and obtain the rest of the 180 emblems. Completing all 62 Chao Races in 1st place can be pretty time-consuming. If you don't have the DLC yet it can be downloaded by clicking HERE. All DLC achievements are:

  • Level 4!
  • Karate Master
  • Emblem Mania

Conclusion

The wait is finally over and Sonic Adventure 2 has made its return to Xbox Live Arcade. At long last, fans can relive the exciting adventures of Sonic and friends going up against Dr. Eggman, the mysterious Shadow the Hedgehog, and the too-subtle-for-Rated-T Rouge the Bat in the ultimate showdown between good and evil in glorious HD. Although not terribly difficult to get 400:gsicon: in, only the truly dedicated will obtain all the A Ranks as well as all 180 Emblems from the Battle DLC. If you were able to get all A-Ranks in the Dreamcast or Gamecube versions then you shouldn't have too many problems doing it again.

Clear stage 1 on either side in story mode.

Story-related and cannot be missed. This achievement will unlock upon clearing the 1st stage of either the Hero or Dark Story mode.

  • Hero Side: City Escape as Sonic
  • Dark Side: Iron Gate as Eggman

City Escape corresponds to Sonic's escape and run through the city to escape the G.U.N. military forces pursuing him. Iron Gate, represents Eggman's attempt to infiltrate the GUN's military base.

Upon clearing either of these stages for the first time, this achievement will unlock.

Name your Chao for the first time.

This achievement will unlock upon naming one of your pet Chao at the Fortune-Telling house located at the Chao Kindergarden in Chao World. To access Chao World you must find a Chao Key hidden throughout each stage and then go on to complete the stage to goal. They will be inside a Chao Container scattered throughout each stage. There are 3 boxes in all and each time you break them and collect the item there's something new in them.

  • 1st Container: Chao Key necessary to visit the Chao Garden after the end of the stage.

  • 2nd Container: One copy of all non-rare small animals found throughout the stage to take to the Garden.

  • 3rd Container: One copy of the stage's designated rare small animal (Legendary category).

After clearing a stage with a Chao Key you will be warped to the Chao Lobby. The lobby is the main room of Chao World. In the center is a warp panel that can take you back to the real world. In front of you is the Chao Garden. Opposite of the Chao Garden is Chao Kindergarten. Upon accessing Chao World you will then be able to go there from Stage Select mode with any character you cleared a stage with while holding a Chao key.

Now hatch a Chao in the garden from its egg. Next, pick it up and leave the Chao Garden from where you came. Take it with you to the Chao Kindergarten which is straight across from the Chao Garden entrance and meet with the fortune teller there to name your Chao. The fortune teller can be found through the purple door on your right as you enter. You can either have it named through fortune, or decline twice and name it yourself for the achievement.

Note: Be informed that in the story mode, when you exit out of the Chao garden, the story will begin. Once the story begins, you cannot take your Chao to the Chao Kindergarten. If you want to go anywhere in the Chao world without any restrictions, use the Stage Select screen to go to the Chao world.

Raise all 5 properties of any one Chao up to level 10.

For this achievement you must raise every stat from one of your pet Chao to level 10 in Chao World. Chao have seven different stats, which can be increased mainly by giving them animals or Chaos Drives you pick up throughout stages. Stats are the most important things for you to focus on if you want your Chao to compete in races and karate tournaments.

  • Swim: Determines how well your Chao swims
  • Fly: Determines how well your Chao can fly
  • Run: Determines how fast your Chao can run
  • Power: Determines how strong your Chao is
  • Stamina: Determines the physical constitution of your Chao

Raising Chao

Just like the previous Sonic Adventure, any animal or drive you collect in stages will spew out of you upon entering a Chao Garden. To raise each statistic to Level 10 simply feed your Chao as many animals, drives, and fruit as possible. The Black Market also makes a return in the game which can be accessed at the locker to the left (from when you come in) of the Kindergarten entrance. There are rare items that can be purchased there such as the Mushroom that increases Stamina along with other stats. Certain animals increase specific stats as well so if you need certain ones see the Chao Island Animal Location page. Stamina, however, can only be increased by feeding your Chao fruit from the Black Market or Hero Garden. If you still have trouble raising stats see the Chao Island Stat page. The infinite animal usage glitch still works in this game so feel free to quickly take away animals once you feed them to Chao to get extra uses from them. If you have trouble doing the glitch, click the spoiler below for help.

[spoiler=11]

This video will show you exactly how the glitch is done. Head into Stage Select mode and find a stage with a specific animal you need that will increase Speed, Power, or Swim. See the animal link above for a guide on where to find them.

You can simply farm animals by starting the stage then collecting the animal. After that, pause then select restart. Collect the animal again, pause and hit restart. Repeat until lives reach 0, now quit out the stage. Select the stage again to get 4 lives again. Repeat until you have 10 of that animal. Then go to the Chao garden and perform the glitch. Extra animals always help.

Chao Drives can be farmed in any of Tails or Eggaman's stages, preferably Prison Lane or Iron Gate. Below are some quick and easy animals to find:

Sand Ocean: At the start just turn around and drop down to find a Bat for Fly on your left.

Sky Rail: Once you get off the rail a Bear for Power can be found on your right.

Radical Highway: Once you get off the rail turn around and go further back to find a blue Seal for Swim.

Wild Canyon: A Cheetah for Speed can be found on the left side of the Wind Altar in front of you where you start.

Chao raising will be very important in this game since you will need to raise your Chao strong enough to clear all Races and Karate tournaments for other achievements. You may have to raise its Swim, Run, and Power stats to Level 99 in order to clear all 62 races. Please see the Chao Island Races page for details on Chao Races. You may want to raise this Chao into a Hero or Dark one to help work towards Heaven and Hell.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/NT/60/04CLiGJhbC9MFQUXXFJQHTAyL2FjaC8wLzgAAAAA5+fn-Js+Lg==.jpgHeaven or Hell 40:gsicon:

Raise a HERO Chao and a DARK Chao with your hero and dark characters respectively.

In order for this to unlock you must raise a Hero Chao and a Dark Chao in Chao World. This achievement is pretty ideal since you will need a Hero and Dark Chao in order to compete in certain Chao Races for emblems. Once you have raised a Hero or Dark Chao a new garden will appear in the Chao Lobby. There are various actions that dictate what type of Chao you will receive based on how you interact with it.

http://info.sonicretro.org/images/thumb/8/89/Angel_chao.png/70px-Angel_chao.png

Hero Chao

To get a Hero Chao simply take a child Chao and treat it nicely with a Hero character(Sonic, Tails, Knuckles). Spend time with it, feed it, and pet it with any of those characters, and it will gradually change into a Hero Chao. You can also pet it with a Hero character a bunch of times until it turns pure white. From there, feed it many items such as animals, drives, and food until it evolves from a cocoon. Once you have a Hero Chao a staircase that leads up to the Hero Garden will appear to the left of the main Lobby.

http://info.sonicretro.org/images/thumb/6/63/Darkchao.png/114px-Darkchao.png
Dark Chao

To raise a Dark Chao simply take a child Chao and treat it nicely with a Dark character(Shadow, Eggman,Rouge). Spend time with it, feed it, and pet it with any of those characters, and it will gradually change into a Dark Chao. You can also pet it with a Dark character a bunch of times until it turns pure black. From there, feed it many items such as animals, drives, and food until it evolves from a cocoon. Once you have a Dark Chao a staircase that leads up to the Dark Garden will appear to the right of the main Lobby.

After spending 3 hours in the garden your Chao will evolve. You will know your Chao is evolving when they form a white cocoon around them. Stat levels and the amount of animals you feed them have no affect on this. It's purely based on time spent in the garden with the Chao. You can stay idle in the garden to help with this until they evolve.

For an a guide on how to raise different types of Chao see the Chao Island Alignment page.

Story-related and will not be missed. This achievement will unlock upon completing the Hero Story. Begin the hero story by selecting 1P Play from the main menu then select Hero. In this Story Mode, you'll be playing through the eyes of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. There are 16 stages in total with 8 different Boss fights in-between. If you ever get stuck, don't worry as Omochao will provide helpful instructions after numerous attempts throughout particular stages or bosses. Final Boss Fight: Shadow

After completing the Final Rush stage with Sonic you will engage in a boss fight against Shadow running down an on-going walkway. For the most part this Boss fight will have your enemy using Chaos Control and teleporting ahead of you. Shadow requires 5 hits and is fairly easy to beat just be careful of the colapsing floors if you fall behind. Also watch for Shadow calling for Chaos Strike, this can be avoided by doing a somersault with :xbut:. You can get three hits on Shadow pretty easily. Just run him down and use your homing attack. After you get three hits though, he doesn't play stupid anymore and will now dodge your attacks.

Now you have two hits left on him. There are two methods you can use to get these attacks in. One is to fall behind Shadow a little bit until he does Chao Control. When he does, he will stand still. Quickly spin dash attack him, then repeat. The other method is a bit harder and not as effective. If you get far ahead of Shadow, he will Chaos Control ahead of you. He always lands in front of you in the center of the track. If he does it when there is a set of rings right behind him, you can light dash through these rings and into Shadow until he's defeated. If you struggle with any other Boss fights please see Boss Attack for help.

Once you defeat him this achievement will unlock at the start of the credits.

Final Boss Fight: Sonic

After completing the Final Chase stage with Shadow you will face Sonic in a final boss fight in a similar style as you did in the Hero Story. Sonic will require 5 hits in order to beat and he now somehow has the ability to use Chaos Control. Sonic's main move is the Sonic Wind which he'll attempt once he's far enough ahead of you. Just get 3 easy hits on him at the beginning. Then let him get a little ways ahead of you, let him call for Sonic Wind, then somersault out of the way, now quickly spin dash attack him while you can as he's sitting still. Repeat until he's defeated. If you struggle with any other Boss fights please see Boss Attack for help.

Upon defeating Sonic this will unlock at the start of the credits.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/ps/ZU/0oCLiGJhbC9NFQUXXFJQHTAyL2FjaC8wLzkAAAAA5+fn-XvGvQ==.jpgBeyond Good And Evil 40:gsicon:

Clear Last part in story mode.

Story-related and should not be missed. This achievement unlocks once you complete the "Last" story arc. Once both the "Hero" and "Dark" stories are successfully completed, a final "Last" story becomes unlocked in Story selection. When chosen, the two story threads finally intertwine, revelations of the true nature of "Project Shadow" finally coming to light. The "Last" story contains only one stage and two Boss battles. Below is a full breakdown of the Last story:

  • Cannon's Core stage
  • Biolizard Boss fight
  • Final Hazard Boss fight

For the Cannon's Core stage, the major gimmicks of this level are being divided into five sections each with specific character and time switches scattered in each part. The characters are as follows: Tails, then Eggman, both sent to destroy doors, Rouge and then Knuckles, both sent to hunt for switches (but with no radar) and finally Sonic, who runs trough the level. About the time switches, touching or shooting one will freeze the timer as well as all non-player objects for a few (real-time) seconds. You can use this to your advantage for some missions when doing the A-Ranks. This stage should be fairly easy to clear overall just be sure to use the switches to kill the red barriers for Knuckles' section. You may want to retrieve his Air Necklace Upgrade from Aquatic Mine to make this stage easier for you.

Bossfight: Biolizard

[spoiler=8]Fought by: Shadow

Hits to defeat: 6

Biolizard is considered by some to be the hardest Boss in the game, but only because of his annoying pink spheres towards the end. Biolizard has 4 different attack patters.

The 1st pattern consists of trying to get closer to you, biting you if he’s closer to its mouth or trying to whack him with its tail, if you move away from the head too much. Around one half turn the Biolizard tires out and stops to gather its breath. The pipes that run from his mouth to its life support system glow, probably because its draining some energy from there. You can grind these up to reach the glowing top and hit it, as this is the Biolizard’s only weak point.

During the 2nd and later parts the Biolizard will shoot black matter spears from his mouth at you. You can simply jump over the low ones and somersault with :xbut: under the high ones. Wait for him to take a breather, then grind up the railing on his side and hit the hit the weak spot again.

During the 3rd part, he will genrate pink spheres around him. You will need to use your homing attack on them to make your way up to his weak spot for another hit. On his 4th pattern the Biolizard will rear up and generate pink spheres once more, but this time it's capable of controling gravity around him (at the very least), so the eggs and Shadow will all float in a disc surface in the same plane of the life support system. The objective is to navigate Shadow through the eggs (they swirl slightly anticlockwise) towards the life support system for your final attack to finish him off.

Bossfight: Final Hazard

[spoiler=9]Fought by: Super Sonic & Super Shadow

Hits to defeat: 6

Finalhazard is a pretty simple boss. :abut: Button moves you up, :bbut: Button causes you to dive. Use the Analog to just go straight ahead. Here are some things to remember about this boss. You run out of rings, then you lose your Super form, which means death for you. If you go past the FinalHazard, then it switches to the other character. But this results in less rings, which gives you less time to attack.

Your objective is to attack the red, swolen area on the FinalHazard with your upward or downward attack. At first it is simple, just dodge the laser here and there, then go in for the kill. But as you get more and more hits on FinalHazard, it gets harder. More lasers, more balls blocking your way. Just make sure you dodge them, and you will be fine. Getting hit will blow you away, therefore wasting time and rings. After 6 hits he will be defeated and thus the end of the game.

After defeating the Final Hazard there will be a final dramatic cut-scene. This achievement will unlock at the end of the credits.

Clear all 3 modes in Boss Attack Mode.

This achievement will unlock upon clearing all three Boss Attack Modes. This mode can be found by selecting 1P Mode then go to Boss. Boss attack is an endurance game in which all of the story mode bosses are played in succession. You will receive a clear time upon completing each one along with an emblem. There are 3 types of these modes: Hero Side, Dark Side, and All. These modes are unlocked by doing specific things in-game:

  • Hero Boss Attack: Beat the game with the Hero Side to unlock Boss Attack in 1P Play.
  • Dark Boss Attack: Beat the game with the Dark Side to unlock Boss Attack in 1P Play.
  • All Boss Attack: Beat all three main stories to unlock Boss Attack in 1P Play. This mode combines the Hero, Dark, and Last bosses.

These Boss Attack modes are pretty time consuming to clear, especially the All Boss Attack, so be prepared to spend roughly an hour clearing all three in one sitting. The Bosses in Sonic Adventure 2 aren't particularly hard however some newcomers may run into problems with some of them. Some bosses may require a multi-step process before you can even damage them. Please see the Boss Strategy Guide if you ever need assistance defeating any of them.

This achievement will unlock upon clearing all 3 Boss Rush modes.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/Oy/qT/0ICLiGJhbC9DFQUXXFJQHTAyL2FjaC8wLzcAAAAA5+fn-7wqIA==.jpgMission Complete 20:gsicon:

Win all A RANKs (5 A RANKs) in any one stage in story mode.

This achievement will unlock upon getting an A-Rank in all 5 mission objectives for at least 1 stage from Story Mode. There are a total of 31 stages in the full game, each with 5 mission objectives which can be toggled in Stage Select. They are as follows:

  • 1st: Clear the objective
  • 2nd: Collect 100 Rings!
  • 3rd: Find the lost Chao!
  • 4th: Reach the goal within _ minutes _ seconds!
  • Last: Clear Hard mode!

Because you will need to obtain A-Ranks in every mission in order to complete the game, you will naturally unlock this while working towards other achievements. Please see the You Are A Legend achievement solution for more details regarding this achievement.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/Cp/l7/0YCLiGJhbC8VFQUXXFJQHTAyL2FjaC8wL2EAAAAA5+fn-lSZEQ==.jpgSpeedy Racer 40:gsicon:

Win NO.1 in expert level in kart race.

For this achievement you must clear the Expert track in Kart Race in 1st place. Kart Race opens after clearing Route 101 with Tails or Route 280 with Rouge in Story mode. Access it by selecting 1P Play then go to Kart Race. All 6 characters from the game are playable, each with their own vehicles and unique strengths. The object is to be the first racer to complete 3 laps around each track. You will be rewarded with an emblem upon clearing each course in 1st place. Here are all 3 courses in Kart Race that are available from the start:

  • Beginner Course
  • Standard Course
  • Expert Course

General Tips

Kart controls are simple, just hold down :abut: to accelerate and :xbut: to brake. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses. You may even want to use certain characters for particular tracks that their strengths will give you an advantage at. Sonic and Shadow have good top-speed, which is good for tracks with long, straight roads. Tails and Rouge have good acceleration, which gives them good head starts in races. And Knuckles and Eggman are more well rounded, best suited for Expert tracks.

  • Every 20 rings you collect awards you with a Boost by pressing :ybut:
  • Red balloons located in some of the detours near the starting line will net bonus rings.
  • Make use of the black speed ramps in the middle of the road for some courses.
  • Watch out for sharp turns, you can double tap :abut: to drift your turn to avoid wall collisions.

If you're undecided on who to use try Knuckles. He may be best for clearing the Expert track because he's well rounded. He starts out slow, but you can reach 1st place by the second lap if you use the tips provided. If you clear all of a characters missions in Stage Select you will unlock an upgraded Kart for them making it easier to come in 1st place. Just highlight them and hit up to access it.

Upon clearing the Expert course in 1st place, this achievement will unlock. This achievement is geared towards clearing Expert in 1st place, but you'll also need to come 1st in the Beginner and Standard tracks to obtain all emblems.

Unlock 90 emblems.

For this achievement you must collect 90 of the possible 180 emblems in all of Sonic Adventure 2. Like Sonic Adventure 1, Emblems are medals earned for completing various tasks that include:

  • 155 Emblems from getting A-Ranks for all missions
  • 10 Emblems from the Chao Races
  • 6 Emblems for obtaining all of each character's A-Ranks
  • 3 Emblems from each all Endings
  • 3 Emblems from Boss Attack Mode.
  • 3 Emblems from the Kart Race Mode

Most of your emblems for this achievement will come from the 155 missions you can A-Rank. At any rate you'll only need to obtain 90 of those 180 emblems to unlock this. This will more than likely unlock as you work towards the You Are A Legend achievement so see that solution for more details in obtaining emblems.

To see your Emblem progress, go to the main menu and select Help & Options > Extra > Emblem Results.

Win A RANK in all stages in Story Mode.

This achievement will be the most challenging of them all. You must obtain A-Ranks in all 5 missions for every stage in the game with all characters. There are 31 stages in the game making it a total of 155 missions. This can be a very difficult achievement for some people as some of the stage missions require you to achieve stage completions within strict time limits as well as high scores. After completing a stage in any Story Mode the option to play through it at your leisure becomes available through the Stage Select menu. To access Stage Select, simply go to 1P Play > Stage Select from the main menu. Displayed in a map(pictured below) of the game's areas, all 31 stages (including the two racing levels and the Chao Garden) can be toggled through and chosen. When one of the stages is selected, a secondary menu appears. While the 1st main mission of each stage from story mode can be replayed, four additional missions will also be selectable as you complete them. In addition to the 1st mission, you will need to clear these four extra missions with an A-Rank for this achievement. Listed below are all 5 Mission objectives for each stage:

1st:
Clear the objective

2nd:
Collect 100 Rings!

3rd:
Find the lost Chao!

4th:
Reach the goal within _ minutes _ seconds!

Last:
Clear Hard mode!

NOTE: For Tails' and Rouge's Kart Stages, the Chao and Time Limit missions are replaced with going through the course and not touching either the walls or the other cars.

Letter Grade System

The Stage Select menu also keeps track of the lettered grade that is awarded at the end of each run, ranging from a perfect A to a less-than-desirable E. As each level and mission has its own requirements to reach an A only practice and determination can award the most dedicated at finishing each and every stage with perfection. It should be noted that, within each stage, a Gold Beetle is hidden somewhere within, and only appears for a few seconds. If broken, an extra 1000 points is added to the total, which can come in handy in trying to reach the A rankings. Before embarking on this achievement, make sure you acquire all of the Mystic melody upgrades for each character. For a location of all of them, see the Upgrade Location thread.

Unlockable Bonus!

Once you clear all 5 missions for each of a characters stages you will unlock a new Kart for them in Kart Mode. To select it, highlight your character and press up on the d-pad to toggle it on.

For a complete walkthrough for every A-Rank mission in the game, see the clickable A-Rank Guide / Discussion Thread.

Introduction

Welcome to the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Mode DLC. This DLC contains 3 achievements for 100:gsicon: (bringing the full game to 500:gsicon:) and is essentially the Gamecube add-on to Sonic Adventure 2. Upon downloading this downloadable content you will receive the Battle update which grants access to expanded multiplayer and Chao Karate. The main menu will also receive a Battle update with a new interface. Six popular characters from the previous Sonic series, including Amy, Metal Sonic, and Chaos 0 will be added as playable characters for 2-player battle mode as well as the familiar six Hero and Dark characters.

The 3 achievements for the Battle DLC are very straightforward, one of which is pretty much a continuation from the Emblem Collector achievement. First, you will have to play all Level 4 multiplayer stages under Action Race, Treasure Hunter, and Shooting Battle. Next you will have to raise your Chao strong enough to defeat all Chao Karate opponents. Last, you will need to obtain the remainder of the 180 emblems in the game. If you've already finished the original 400:gsicon: then you should already have 171 or so emblems. So completion of this DLC shouldn't take too long as long as you have a well leveled up Chao.

2P Battle Mode

New battle stages have been added for 2-player battle mode with the Battle DLC. Each stage contains battles levels 1 to 4, and you can select the level that they want depending on your skills. Level 1 battle is easy enough for beginners whereas Level 3 will require more skill. Level 4 battle contains more difficult stages that can be unlocked by completing the Hero and Dark stories. Start up multiplayer under 2P Battle from the main menu with a second controller and simply play each of the Level 4 stages pertaining to Action Races, Treasure Hunting, and Shooting Battle. Finish all of these multiplayer games and this will unlock the Level 4! achievement. Below is the sole achievement that can be earned in this mode:

  • Level 4!

Chao Karate

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle now offers another way for Chao to compete against each other, called Karate. Like races, you can access karate from the Chao Stadium. As you can probably tell from the name, karate involves two Chao going head to head in battle. Your Chao needs to be strong to clear all of the tournaments. There are 4 tournaments in all: Beginner, Standard, Expert, and Super. Each tournament has 5 rounds of enemy Chao. You will unlock the Super Tournament upon beating the first three. Clear the Super Tournament to unlock Karate Master. The only achievement that can be earned in this mode is:

  • Karate Master

180 Emblems

As mentioned previously in the main guide, emblems are earned by performing a variety of tasks. If you have been following this guide in order, you should already have around 171 emblems by this step. Now it is up to you to finish the emblems that you have left over which should be the Chao Races and Karate. You are going to need to utilize the new features from the Battle DLC to raise your Chao well enough to clear all 62 races and the 4 tournaments for the last emblems to reach 180. Below is what you'll unlock upon gathering all 180 emblems and thus your completion of the game:

  • Emblem Mania

Conclusion

The Battle DLC is definitely a nice touch to what was already an amazing Sonic game to begin with. It brings expanded multiplayer and a fun versus Chao mode that is, Chao Karate. The DLC achievements themselves aren't too difficult but the Chao Karate tournaments can be difficult if you don't raise your Chao's strength and speed to around Level 99. You will also have to finish up the remaining emblems by clearing all 62 Chao races in 1st place making the DLC a pretty time-consuming process. Bypass these trials, and the full 500:gsicon: is yours. Be proud on fully completing possibly the toughest Sonic arcade game to date.

http://www.ps3trophies.com/images/games/NPWR02532/trophies/13S9c453f.png Level 4! 10:gsicon:

Play all level 4 stages in Action Race, Treasure Hunter and Shooting Battle.

For this achievement you must play all of the Level 4 stages under each multiplayer type in 2P Battle mode. This achievement will require 2-controllers. When playing 2P Battle, you are given a choice to compete in different stages based on difficulty Levels 1 through 4. There are 4 Levels in all but you only start out with 3 Levels. The Level 4 multiplayer stages must be unlocked. Click the spoiler below for a list of all unlockable Level 4 Stages.

[spoiler=4]Action Race Level 4 Stages

  • Final Rush
  • Final Chase

Treasure Hunting Level 4 Stages

  • Death Chamber
  • Mad Space

Shooting Battle Level 4 Stages

  • Eternal Engine
  • Lost Colony

To unlock all of these Level 4 stages, simply complete the Hero and Dark stories. Clearing the Hero story will unlock all Level 4 stages for the Hero characters, and clearing the Dark Story will unlock all Level 4 stages for the Dark characters. Each type of stage is played split-screen except for the shooting stages. The conditions for winning in each type are as follows:

  • Action Race: The player who reaches the Goal Ring first wins.
  • Treasure Hunt: The first player to find two pieces of the Master Emerald wins.
  • Shooting: The first player to reduce their opponent's health gauge to zero wins.

Upon gaining access to the stages under Level 4 plug in a 2nd controller and from the main menu select 2P Battle. To select the Level 4 stages highlight Level 3 and hit down, they are hidden right below. Now simply play both Level 4 stages under Action Race, Treasure Hunt, and Shooting Battle to unlock this achievement, there are six in all. You must play these 2P battles from start to finish in order for them to count.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/Da/FB/1oCLiGJhbC8QCxoIG1lSUzAyL2FjaC8wLzFkAAAAAOfn5-luoRE=.jpg Karate Master 30:gsicon:

Beat all your enemies in Super Level in Chao Karate 1P mode.

In Chao Karate, you must raise your Chao strong enough to clear all 4 Karate Tournaments in the game. Chao Karate can be found through the water fall in the Chao Garden. Once there Omochao will give you a choice to play either Karate or Chao Race, choose Karate. In Chao Karate, each Tournament consists of 5 rounds against 5 different enemy Chao. As you can probably tell from the name, karate involves two Chao going head to head in battle. Your Chao needs to be strong to win all tournaments. This is how Chao Karate works, each battle has a 90 second time limit, and is fought in a ring. There are three ways to win:

  • Deplete the opponent's health bar.
  • Knock the opponent out of the ring.
  • Have more health than your opponent when the time runs out.
  • If you happen to run out of time and have the exact same health as your opponent, then the game will be a tie!

The Tournament is the main mode of Chao Karate. At first, there are three difficulty levels available: Beginner, Standard, and Expert. You can enter your Chao in any of those levels, but it is recommended that you start with Beginner. Each difficulty has five opponents, and you must beat each opponent in order before you can complete that difficulty level. Once you clear a difficulty, you will earn an emblem. If you manage to clear all three difficulty levels, you will unlock the Super difficulty, which must be cleared to unlock this achievement. Below is a breakdown of all 5 Super Tournament opponents:

  • Round 1: Crunchy
  • Round 2: Wacky
  • Round 3: Crystal
  • Round 4: Angel
  • Round 5: Flash

During Karate matches you have a Zeal meter at the bottom. Press :abut: quickly to cheer your Chao on during the fight. Your Chao's Power and Speed needs to be around Level 99 in order to dodge then punch and kick the enemy Chao out of the ring. Give it plenty of Chao Drives and Animals until it's stats are appropriate to compete. If anything you may need to try to max out Power, Speed, and Swim to Level 99 to help clear all 62 of the Chao Races too. See Chao Raiser for more info on improving Chaos stats. For more information on Chao Karate see the Chao Island Chao Karate page.

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/K1/CA/1YCLiGJhbC8SCxoIG1lSUzAyL2FjaC8wLzFmAAAAAOfn5-qvUDc=.jpg Emblem Mania 60:gsicon:

Unlock all 180 emblems.

For this achievement you must collect all 180 emblems in all of Sonic Adventure 2. As mentioned in the original guide, emblems are obtained by completing various tasks however with the Battle DLC downloaded these tasks have been altered and updated:

  • 155 Emblems from A-Ranking every mission
  • 6 Emblems from A-Ranking all of each character's missions
  • 3 Emblems from all Endings
  • 3 Emblems from the Kart Race Mode
  • 3 Emblems from Boss Attack Mode
  • 5 Emblems from the Chao Races
  • 4 Emblems from Chao Karate
  • 1 Emblem from getting all A-Ranks on the Cannon's Core stage

You should already have 171 or so emblems from unlocking You Are A Legend. Your new priority will be clearing all the Chao Races and Karate Tournaments to mop up the last several emblems. Please see Karate Master for more information with obtaining those emblems. Click the spoiler below for an overview of Chao Race mode.

Chao Races

[spoiler=12]While at the Chao Garden there is a waterfall that leads to the Chao Races, go through it to compete. There are 5 emblems tied to the Chao Races, and you will pretty much have to max out all of your Chao's stats to clear them all in 1st place. There are 62 races total within 5 categories of Races. You start out with Beginner but will unlock the rest upon clearing all Beginner Races in 1st place. Listed below are the 5 race categories each with multiple courses:

  • Beginner Race
  • Jewel Race
  • Challenge Race
  • Hero Race
  • Dark Race

It would be wise to raise your Hero and Dark chao for these since you will need them for the Hero and Dark-only races anyway. Neutral Chaos can also enter both if you take your time to raise one. Please see the Chao Island Chao Race page for details. Refer to the Chao Raiser solution for tips on raising your Chao to clear all races.

Once your emblem count reaches 180, return to the Stage Select map and your final achievement will unlock. To see your Emblem progress, go to the main menu and select Help & Options > Extra > Emblem Results.

Unlockable Bonus!

Upon returning to Stage Select with all 180 emblems, you will unlock a full blown 3-D version of the classic Green Hill Zone from the first Sonic game. It is the question mark icon next to Sonic's Green Forest stage.

Something I was unable to do on the gamecube. However I wasn't able to do Sonic Adventure DX and now I have 250. I'm a lot older and more determined so this Achievement list is very welcomed and I'm ready to kick some ass

Very detailed guide and you get very in depth per achievement. Amazing guide keep it up.

While true, you still need to get 1st in the other two to get their emblems.

Thanks. Everything has been updated. I just finished the full 500:gsicon: for Sonic Adventure 2 a few moments ago so now I can finish editing up the guide. Still some nit-picky mistakes that need to be edited.

I have an in-depth A-Rank Guide up for those who need help with You Are A Legend. Please use it as a Discussion thread of sorts if you want to add notes or tips to certain missions you find difficult.

As for the Chao-related information I pretty much used the Chao Island site as a reference. However, I will be editing how I was able to raise my Chao so quickly for the races and karate. Most of what is needed is their already. For those who know how to do the animal glitch, it can still be used in this 360 port. It really sped the process up when it came to leveling up Chao for the Races/ Karate Tournaments.

Upgrade Location guide is up as well. I will edit in videos if I must since some people have trouble finding the mandatory Mystic Melodies.

If anybody needs or has anything they'd like to have added to the guide let me know.

A tip for anyone struggling with completing the "All Boss Rush" mode (All Hero, Dark, and Last bosses),

The last boss of Hero and Dark side (Sonic vs. Shadow, and Shadow vs. Sonic), has infinite rings you can collect.

So you could just keep running forward, lightdash and collect rings to build enough extra lives to clear the "All Bosses" boss rush, or as many as you think you'll need.

(Edit: Also, you can bring upgrades into the boss rush modes as well, such as the Protective Armor that Tails & Eggman can get.)

Other than that, I wanted to say great guides!

Nice guides there FelizP they came in handy when I forgot some of the upgrade locations and lost chao locations. As someone as already pointed out during the Boss Attack mode you can get infinite lives during Sonic/Shadow's 2nd Boss encounter in space the stage does not end it's the method I used to rack up extra lives for the last 2 final boss battles (not that I needed the extra lives).

A tip for Cannon's Core if you are struggling to get the A ranks is to freeze the time and kill extra enemies once the timer has stopped and collect extra rings it helps to get high multiplers with Tails and Eggman.

Obviously missions 1, 4 & 5 A ranks are based on high score and missions 2 & 3 are based on time probably best to have to all upgrades to get higher multiplers with Tails/Eggman aswell as taking shortcuts to get quicker times on the stages.

Also I like to point out the 180 emblem achievement unlocks once you get onto stage select maybe it has to see you have Green Hill stage unlocked.
