Introduction

Samurai vs Zombies Defense is a freemium game for Windows 8 developed by Glu Games, popular developer of other freemium games such as Bug Village, Contract Killer, and Gun Bros on the Windows Phone platform. This game is, in a sense, a tower defense type of game, but you can control your samurai character at will. You will be faced with 50 levels on increasing enemies and increasing difficult enemies that you will have to kill before they destroy your gate (base). In order to destroy the oncomming onslaught, you will need to summon allies to aid you, as well as use your powerups to help destroy the enemies.

The game is freemium, meaning you have the option to buy "gems" which is the in-game premium currency that is used to purchase items and packs at an instant rate instead of waiting to hopefully find those items slowly in the main game. The game can be beaten without the use of ever buying anything, although it will of course take you a lot longer to do so, as you will need to grind a lot more.

Gameplay - First 50 Levels:

The gameplay itself is quite simple. Your samurai will auto attack zombies when they are within range of his basic attack methods, his sword and his bow. You will also need to utilize power-ups that you unlock as you progress through the game. You are only allowed two power-ups per level, or wave, and once used, they will have a certain recharge time you need to wait before each cast. You will also need to constantly be summoning allies to aid you in defeating the zombies, which can only be summoned as you kill zombies and gain leadership points over the time of the wave.

Specific guides and play styles are mentioned below that generally worked for many, including myself, but feel free to try out your own methods and see which ones you think work best for beating the first 50 waves. A big tip is to save any gems you earn through the waves, which should be spent on Troop Trample once you get to wave 40. By saving gems, you are powering up the biggest help in the later levels in Troop Trample, and ensuring that you cna beat the game without spending actual money on the title.

Gameplay - Level Replay:

The first 50 levels make up the "main game", and you can't replay levels (referred to as waves in the game and in this guide) until you have beaten the 50th. There are additional levels after level 50, but there are no achievements tied into them, and they are very difficult. Once you beat level 50, you are allowed to replay waves, and replaying them will "level them up", to a max level up of 99. By replaying levels, you can polish off any achievements you missed, as well as work towards leveling up each wave to 99. Leveling a wave up to 99 means you will have to replay and beat that wave 99 times, which has two achievements tied into it in "Finally……"for leveling up one wave to 99,and "That took forever" for leveling up EVERY one of the main waves (first 50) to level 99.

Leveling up a wave to 99 takes a serious amount of time. This is because as each level progresses, the enemies get stronger and more health, even though it is the same wave. Going for these achievement will take you some serious playthrough, time, and frustration, and may require you to buy gems if you don't feel like grinding. So far, only one user at trueachievements has been able to level up all 50 waves to level 99, and has claimed it took him 2 months of not playing any other game to do so. If you wish to join in all the glory that comes with it, then check the solution in the achievement solutions below to try and get a good feel of what will need to be done.

Conclusion:

Samurai vs Zombies Defense is an addicting game for the first 50 waves, and maybe even for a little while during replays, but leveling up even one wave to 99 is enough to make you bored, mad, tired, and over with this game, let alone the 50 waves they want you do that for for the full 200 :gsicon:. In all, the game is a decent one for being free, and should provide you with some fun for a while. Best of luck if you are one of the brave souls who wish to get the full score!

Save up 15,000 coins without spending it

This is a pretty straight forward achievement. You need to have 15,000 coins on your person at any given time. My advice would be not to worry about hording coins early on, as you will need to spend them on upgrades in the shop to make yourself powerful enough to deal with the waves. This can easily be gotten during wave 40-50, as completing those waves should net you around 4K coins. Simply save up a few waves then, as you should be pretty strong by then, and then you will net this achievement.

1oCLiGJhbC9HFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzMAAAAA5+fn+RtBwQ==.jpg No Way... 5 :gsicon:

Revive yourself with a Charm

Revive's can be gained in three different ways throughout the game. You can gain them in the pachinko mini-game, gather them during a wave from a present drop, or you can buy them with gems. For this achievement, I would recommend waiting until you find one during a wave, or get lucky and win one randomly in a game of pachinko (check "You are winner hahaha" on how to get pachinko balls). Once you die, you will be given the option to revive if you have any revives in your inventory. Revives come in very useful during the later waves, so it might be best to save them and use them when you actually need them instead of dying on an earlier level just to get this achievement early.

Kill 250 undead with the Katana Wave ability

This achievement is a little confusing at first, since Katana Wave isn't actually the official name of anything in game. Katana Wave in this sense actually is referring to the "Troop Trample" power that is unlockable after level 40. This move is great and will be your main move for getting through waves 40-50 as read in "This land is Safe", so make sure you upgrade it often and spam it as much as you can. Killing 250 zombies will simply come with natural progression of the waves.

1oCLiGJhbC9HFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzMAAAAA5+fn+RtBwQ==.jpg This land is Safe 25 :gsicon:

Complete all 50 Waves

The waves progressively get more difficult, so the reason I split this up from the beat 25 wave achievement is because the method of beating waves needs to "evolve" or change from what you were able to get away with in the first 25 waves.

For starters, on waves 25-40, you will want to continue to upgrade and employ the strategy of spamming farmer units whenever you can in order to stall the enemies. In addition, I recommend continuing to upgrade your bow/bow allies in order to get some good range on enemies as farmers slow them down. In the later waves, you will notice a plethora of enemies sitting in the backfield that are ranging you, and even healing the zombies. To deal with them, use the Lethargy power up to slow the enemies in front, run through them, and quickly deal with the low health problem zombies sitting in the backfield with your second power, preferably Katana Slash.

Once you reach wave 40 you will unlock the "Troop Trample" powerup, also sometimes referred to as "Katana Wave". Once this is unlocked, you will want to immediately start utilizing this power up, and level it up. I recommend replacing Katana Slash with this and keeping Lethargy to slow the enemies. Continue to spam farmers as you can and then deal with the troops in the same way as waves 25-40. Continue to utilize Lethargy, and utilize your new power Troop Trample, to make quick work of the enemies. The later levels get tough, but using this strategy should help a lot.

Once you reach the last wave, level 50, you will face off against a boss, so see the "So Long" description below on how to deal with that zombie.

Kill the Jorogumo

Jorogumo appears in wave 40. The basic attack plan to deal with Jorogumo would be to utilize many of the methods outlined in "This land is Safe". The basic idea is to spam the farmer allies and utilize your power ups as often as they become available. Be aware that once you finally kill Jorogumo, Jorogumo will split into three smaller versions that you will also need to deal with. If you utilize Lathargy and Katana Slash mixed in with your spamming of the farmer allies, then Jorogumo should fall.

Complete 25 Waves

This will come with normal progression of the game. There are 50 total waves, or levels, and making it through the first 25 is fairly easy. The best method I can recommend is upgrading the farmer allies by spending coins on them in the shop between levels. Focus on upgrading them, upgrading your powers, and upgrading your bow/sword the most. A general strategy is to spam the farmer allies at every 5 upgrade power you get, as they will act as distractions for the advancing zombies. The two powers I focused on were Katana Slash and Lethargy (this power slows the enemies for a short time). While the zombies focus on the farmers, spam your powers and stay within shooting distance of your bow, and the zombies shouldn't prove too tough.

14CLiGJhbC9GFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzIAAAAA5+fn+Pu5Ug==.jpg Get back here! 5 :gsicon:

Kill 50 chochinobake

Chochinobake are the quick lantern looking creatures that first appear at wave 12. They are distinguishable by their small blue lantern shape, their laugh, their low health, and the fact that they run right by you. As mentioned, these little creatures run directly past you, so you will need to backtrack to finish off killing them before they do too much damage to your gate. This will unlock during regular progression of the waves, so kill 50 of them in any manner to unlock this.

14CLiGJhbC9GFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzIAAAAA5+fn+Pu5Ug==.jpg Send them back 5 :gsicon:

Kill 50 Oni

Oni first start to appear in wave 10, and they are the medium sized red devil looking zombies. They are distinguishable by being red, have big clubs, and have a lot of health. This achievement will unlock after natural progression, as more of them start to appear after wave 10. Simply kill 50 of them in any manner and this will unlock.

14CLiGJhbC9GFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzIAAAAA5+fn+Pu5Ug==.jpg All we need 5 :gsicon:

Beat a wave without summoning allies

Allies don't become available until level 2, and for some reason this achievement, even if you do not use allies, will not unlock on level 2 since they want you to learn how to use allies in that level as part of a tutorial. I recommend doing this on waves 3 or 4, as those are very easy to beat the zombies without the use of allies. Just simply run up to the zombies and use your auto attacks and Katana Slash on them and you can do this very easily.

Complete 10 waves without allowing any damage to the Gate

This can easily be done in the first 10 waves of the game. Simply focus on attacking the zombies with your own characters attacks/special attacks, and also spamming allies to aid you/slow down the zombies advance. Basically just kill the zombies before they even get close to your gate, which in the early levels, should be no issue.

1oCLiGJhbC9HFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzMAAAAA5+fn+RtBwQ==.jpg So Long 5 :gsicon:

Kill the Demon Shogun

The Demon Shogun is the last boss you will face, as he appears at wave 50. During this wave, you should stay as far away from him as you possibly can. He has the ability/strength to kill you with a single attack, and has a great deal of range. Simply stay away from him and range him/spam your "Troop Trample" and "Lethargy" powerups whenever they become available. Also keep utilizing the strategy of spamming farmer allies, as Demon Shogun is very slow and shouldn't advance too much with them being distractions. When you get pushed all the way back to your gate towards the end of his health, simply stand behind the gate and range him. Continue to spam farmer allies and call upon troop trample/lethargy to weaken him. If you die, use a revive if you own one to help you deal a lot of damage on revive and also since by the time you die you will most likely have him almost dead.

1YCLiGJhbC9FFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzEAAAAA5+fn+tqw5w==.jpg Coward 5 :gsicon:

Beat a wave without attacking

This can be easily done as early as level 3, and this level, or level 4 is when it should be done as it gets progressively harder the further waves you enter. Basically, you just need to sit back at the start of the lane and summon allies whenever you have enough upgrade power. Focus on just summoning farmers, which cost 5 energy, and swordsman which cost 10 energy.

The reason level 3 is the earliest this will happen is because level 1 you are by yourself, and level 2 is when they teach you how to use/summon allies, and for some reason, even if only your allies kill the enemies in this wave it will not unlock.

It is worth noting that this needs to be done on a regular level, not a bonus level.

1YCLiGJhbC9FFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzEAAAAA5+fn+tqw5w==.jpg They got this 5 :gsicon:

Beat a wave using only farmer and swordsmith

Following the method in "Every able body", you can probably knock out this achievement and that one at the same time. This is best obtained during a bonus wave. Simply ONLY summon swordsmith allies and farmer allies, otherwise this achievement will not unlock. You ARE allowed to use your powers as you hover through the lane as a "ghost" unit, just don't summon any allies other than those two. If you go through the 50 waves without getting this, simply load back up one of the bonus waves, which appear every 5th wave, and focus on getting it.

Kill 100 undead with the katana slash

*This achievement is currently glitchy*

Katana Slash is the first power up you get during the game and is available from the start. It has a short cooldown, so once a zombie or group of zombies is at low health, spamming this power up should net you a lot of kills. Simply kill 100 zombies with this power and the achievement is yours.

*Now, to start off, I classify this achievement as "glitchy" and not "glitched", because it is still obtainable and is not fully broken. Many people, including myself, have killed a lot more than 100 zombies with this power, just to have the achievement not unlock. It seems however, that it can be gained by making sure you have killed at least 100, and then "sharing" the game via the Charm menu on Windows 8. It doesn't matter which method you choose to share it, but you will need to share it in order for this to unlock for some odd reason. The share button is found in the charm menu between the Search and Start buttons in the Charm bar. To access the Charm bar on your device, swipe from the right hand side of your screen/move mouse to lower right corner, and it should come up. Credit to user "Grobanite" on trueachievements.com for sharing this solution!*

14CLiGJhbC9GFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzIAAAAA5+fn+Pu5Ug==.jpg Who's all here? 5 :gsicon:

Summon Every possible unit

This achievement is best unlocked on a later bonus wave, as they will have every unit available at your disposal. I recommend doing this during a bonus wave as you don't have to rely on unlocking a unit by luckily getting a present for one during a regular wave. In one of the later bonus waves, just go in order and make sure you summon one of each ally, and the achievement will pop. Here is the full list of allies just incase you want to keep track, in order of appearance on the ally bar; farmer, sword warrior, spear warrior, bowman, panzer samurai, priest, nobunaga, frostie the bowman, spear horseman, assassin, & takeda shingen.

14CLiGJhbC9GFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzIAAAAA5+fn+Pu5Ug==.jpg Finally…… 20 :gsicon:

Get one wave up to level 99

In order to get this achievement, you will first need to beat the 50 waves once (beat the main "story"). Once you beat the original 50 waves, you will be given the option to replay any wave again by selecting it. Once you select the wave, you will need to beat the wave, and then repeat that process for a total of 99 times. For this achievement, select the first wave as it is the easiest/quickest (although it doesn't matter which one you pick if you want the full 200/200 as you will need to do this for all of them). Simply beat the first wave, then go back to the selection and select it again, beat it again, rinse, repeat. This is a major grind, but with an average time of about 1 minute for wave completion/start up again, you are looking at about an hour and a half just for this one achievement/level.

http://www.trueachievements.com/imagestore/0001189000/1189059.jpg That took forever 60 :gsicon:

Get all 50 waves to level 99

Many of us will likely never attempt to do this achievement and will have to settle for the 140/200 :gsicon: due to the extreme length of time doing this would take. Just by doing this for one level, and the easiest level to boot, would take you an hour and a half at 1 minute per game. Now, factor in level 50 alone, which is about 8-10 minutes for wave completion, and you're looking at around 14 hours just to get wave 50 to level 99 alone (and that's with some beefed up power ups and a lot of gems needed). Currently there is only ONE user who has completed this achievement at trueachievements.com, and he would estimate it looks upwards of 300 hours to complete every wave to level 99. Keep in mind that 99 levels*50 waves = 4900 minimum playthroughs.

If you are going for this one, prepare for it to consume a good chunk of your life. If you are brave enough, "MajesticPanda89" over at trueachievements has some good strategies/plans for you, which can be seen here. I won't paste them here so as to steal his solution, and knowing I will never accomplish this, I have no plans on adding my own solution. However, what he suggests is the general plan I would take if attempting this, so head on over to the posted link for help with this pain in the neck achievement.

0ICLiGJhbC8VFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wL2EAAAAA5+fn-3AQvA==.jpg You are winner hahaha 5 :gsicon:

Launch 1000 pachinko balls

Pachinko Balls are tiny silver balls that are useable in the Pachinko min-game. Playing pachinko gives you the opportunity to win coins, cards, powers, food, revives, and even gems! The game is accessed on the shop screen in the bottom right corner, and the game itself is quite simply as you launch pachinko balls by holding down or swiping the launcher. The more balls you have in play, the bigger your multiplier, so it's best to wait until you have a good amount to highten your chances of winning good items.

You can gain pachinko balls by buying a pack of them (not recommended), or gaining them during waves. They appear on the screen as silver balls and you must collect them. You will sometimes get huge rewards of these during bonus rounds and even during waves, so just collect them when you can and then use them in the game. Once you launch your 1000th ball, this achievement will unlock.

1YCLiGJhbC9FFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzEAAAAA5+fn+tqw5w==.jpg Every able body 5 :gsicon:

Upgrade 25 farmers with the swordsmith

Farmer allies will automatically upgrade once they are on the field with a swordsmith ally. Swordsmith allies are distinguishable by the fact that they cost 10 upgrade points, and their picture card will be a character holding a hammer. This can be done during a bonus mission as your allies do all the work for you. Simply build a swordsmith and then spam the farmer ally until you have gotten 25 of them spawned and upgraded. Don't worry if you don't do this in one wave, it can be done over multiple waves but can easily be done in one wave.

1YCLiGJhbC9FFQQYXVZQTTViL2FjaC8wLzEAAAAA5+fn+tqw5w==.jpg We need shotguns 5 :gsicon:

Upgrade 25 archer with the rifleman

Follow the same strategy as "Every able body". Summon a rifleman during a bonus round to upgrade archer allies. Riflemen are distinguishable by the fact that they cost 10 upgrade points to summon, and their picture is a unit holding a rifle. Putting these on the field, then spamming archer to spawn will automatically upgrade the archers. Make sure you are able to keep the rifleman alive by summoning allies ahead of him to distract the zombies. Again, don't worry if you don't do this in one wave, it can be done over multiple waves but can easily be done in one wave.

- Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 4950 times (each of the 50 levels need to be played at least 99 times)

Actually, you need beat the game 99 times, not 4950. One playthrough is 50 waves, not 1

I have 3 waves with 99 level, one with 60, some with 9 and 8 on others. I have 1171 level! (screenshot) Everyone die with one hit, except last boss :eek:. Can only hack money. If saves are not assigned to profile, i can help you with money edit. I try to get last achievement, and share my save before last wave.

p.s. If someone have better save, than i have, share it please

Hmm, true, I mean, both are technically right, just worded differently. I'll change it to 99 though, seems more realistic. :)
