About Collectibles:

The collectibles are called Mysteries. They do not stack through playthroughs and because certain areas close after you are done with them, it's missable. This guide will direct you through the collectibles and side quests. While in Silent Hill, you can feel free to do what you want in any order.

IMPORTANT: This guide is based from a playthrough with Hard Puzzles. Certain items will be in different locations on other difficulties, so it's suggested you use Hard Puzzles as your playthrough.

NOTE: There are never collectibles in the "otherworld".

Mystery: Devil's Pit Flyer

Once you get inside of the diner, look on the table before going into the kitchen area.

Mystery: Newspaper Article (Accident)

When you are in the caves, you will eventually have to move a mine cart to continue. Once you do, you'll come to a door which has this mystery on it. It's literally in your way and I'm not even sure if it's possible to avoid because it's on a door you must open.

Mystery: Poem

After a brief cut-scene, you'll walk off a lift and see a hanging dead body on your left. This will be at the train station area on your map. There is a poem on the body which is basically the clue for the next puzzle.

Side Quest: All Points Bulletin

Prerequisite: There are police cars driving around, you must get spotted by one and see what happens. The quest will then be available.

Inside the police station is your very first side quest. There is a radio and you must use it to recall the police cars. You can find the car dispatch numbers by looking at a chalkboard inside the same room. There are erased numbers, but there is a very easy pattern. Going from top to bottom is the answer, all sequential (1-2-3, A-B-C, etc). Go to the desk and enter the numbers, pressing "recall" for each. Once you have done all 4 the achievement will unlock.

Mystery: Missing Poster

South from the police station there are three houses on a block on Campbell St. In the middle is a sandbox and in front of that is the item. Worth noting, the house on the left side has a basement window you can go into. Here you can grab a few weapons. Go upstairs and turn the TV on. Go back down and you can now enter a once locked gate. You will have heard the eerie crying. Once you pick up the gun on the chair, you will face a new enemy called the Doll. You should just focus on killing the Shadows and she will die.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterymissingposter.jpg

Side Quest: The Art Collector - Painting "Sunrise" 2/6

Head back to where you found the Crime Scene Photo item, which was in the yard behind the police station. Run East on the sidewalk (Campbell St.) and you will see a staircase going down. This is indicated by the blue line on your map. Go down and through a gate. You should see the painting in the little booth.

Side Quest: Stolen Goods

This side quest starts in the same room as above. Go inside and there is a bed by a hanging body. Move it and collect the items in the box. You must deliver them back to apartments they belong. Once you are finished, return to the thief's apartment and you can change into his clothes.

Gold Watch: Inside the apartment straight across from the thief's. Inside there is a little table with a fake arm to place the watch on.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/GoldWatchstolengoodsSQ.jpg

Side Quest: The Art Collector - Painting "Wonder" 3/6

Same first floor apartment as where you placed the War Medal, look to where the rocking chair is. It's facing the painting you need to take. Funny, return a stolen item only to steal something else.

As you exit the gated area towards the street, take a right and follow the sidewalk to the corner of the building. There is a box with this item in it. Grab it, then backtrack through the alley with the dispenser again.

Continue straight across to another fence across the street. There is a barrel there with a circular holder on it. Place the item there.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/shadowsymbolplacement.jpg

This is a multi-part quest, and will continue later.

Side Quest: Ribbons (Part 1)

To start this quest, you must locate the missing person poster. It's on the left side of the street on "Lansdale Ave" if you are headed North. You'll spot it on the side of a building. Grab it and continue on to the next mystery item to actually have it logged in your journal.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/ribbonssidequestmissinspersonposter.jpg

After the above item, turn and you'll see a crosswalk to the other side of the street. Practice your road safety by going over it and it will lead you to the next bird.

Inside it, try to open one of the deposit boxes. An alarm will sound and waves of enemies will appear in the lobby. Defeat them all for the achievement. Each wave you get a refresher of items in the vault.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/BankSidequest.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Shadow Symbol: Enlightenment)

After the bank, you'll find a shortcut on on North Lansdale Ave. on the West side. When you go through it, as you make your way you will notice a box on your right. Grab the symbol.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/shadowsymbolenlightenment.jpg

To place it, you must go to where the below side quest is. It is next to the homeless man on a box.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/shadowenlightenmentplaceitspot.jpg

Side Quest: Homeless

Note: This quest requires you to have money. You should have looted the cash register at the Devil's Pitstop Diner earlier on. If for some reason you didn't, you will have to wait until you get to the Movie Theater which also has a cash register to loot.

To start this quest, you must find a homeless man named Homer. He is located on Laymond Ave. If you look at your map, you should see two blue markings on the map to indicate the underground tunnels. The one on the right side is where Homer is. You'll have to squeeze past the barrier. He will want you to bring him items, in which he will then open the tunnels for you to more easily navigate the town.

  • Candy Bar: You will have found a vending machine in a mandatory alley after exiting the apartment. If you need to backtrack, look at your map. On Lansdale Avenue you should have two squiggly marks. The second one by Cook Street has the alley. You must have the money from a cash register from the Diner or the Theater in order to get it.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/homelesssidequeststat.jpg

Map: Tunnel Entrances

Automatic map when you hand Homer the candy bar.

You will need to progress more to be able to find the remaining items.

Mystery: Addressed Envelope

After exiting the tunnel where Homer was, head North on Laymond Avenue and stick to the right of the street. You'll hit a dead end.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/painting4.jpg

Aritfact: Kite (Optional)

There's a kite in the park on a bench if you want to get it. It's not actually a mystery item though, but considered an artifact. Does not count for anything besides to add stuff into your gallery.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/artifactkite-1.jpg

Story Progress

The next major story objective is to travel through the Centennial Building. It is very important that you know you cannot come back to this building after you finish it. You must collect all of the following mysteries the first time through.

Mystery: Memorandum

When you finally choose to enter the Centennial Building, you'll find this on the door in the hallway leading in. It's practically automatic!

Mystery: Envelope Sketch

This is in room 105. You must first obtain the ID card from the body in room 104 to unlock the door. You must complete a puzzle with envelopes. Once completed, this is automatic.

Mystery: Psychologist's Flyer

After you enter the code you got from the envelopes, you'll have to enter room 204 since a hallway will be blocked off from the Mayor's Office. Inside of this room is the flyer on the desk. You'll have to climb up the furniture afterwards to continue on.

Side Quest: The Art Collector - Painting "Hope" 5/6

Before going into the next side quest called Cinema Verite, you will be visiting a hardware store. Head through the alley South of the theater. Go along the road that curves up and left. Follow it until the dead end. The door with the light above it is a hardware store. Inside is a shotgun and the bulb you need for the Cinema Verite quest. Once inside, grab the items. Now open the register and grab the key. Go through the locked door and move the box inside to grab the painting.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/painting5.jpg

Side Quest: Cinema Verite

This will be your first side quest in the new area of Silent Hill called Chastain Heights. Before you head inside the theater, head through the alley South of the theater. Go along the road that curves up and left. Follow it until the dead end. The door with the light above it is a hardware store. Inside is a shotgun and the bulb you need for the quest. Also if you read above, there is a painting as well.

Now that you are prepared, head inside the theater.

  • Film Reel 1 - The House on the Lake: As soon as you enter the theater, go behind the concession stand on your left and there is a back room with this reel.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/CinemaSQreel1.jpg

  • Film Reel 2 - The Silent Children: Continue on until you get to the movie screen area. Facing the chairs, look at the 2nd to last row on the left side.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/cinemaSQreel2.jpg

  • Film Reel 3 - The Secret of the Attic: Now to go the room that's on the right side of the area. Go up the stairs, past the projector, and in the back room is the last reel.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/cinemaSQreel3.jpg

  • Spliced Reel: You can skip part of the quest by just entering in the code 9241 on keypad by the door (near the projector). Splice the films together to make one.

Now what you must do is use the light bulb you got from the hardware store to fix the projector. Now play the film, and run down to the screen and enter it. Go along the sidewalk and into the house. Pass the stairs and open the door to your left. In the room is a crank on the window. Exit and go through the back door in that hall. Continue through the next, and in that room there is a jack-in-the-box. Use the crank to get a key. Now go to the corner of the room to find a ladder. Go up and locate the chest. Open it and grab the golden gun. Now enemies will attack and it's extremely hard to navigate this area based on the camera angles and losing the ability to effectively aim. Run out of the house and back the way you came to exit.

Mystery: Film Splicing Guidelines

Before you exit the theater, make sure to grab this item. It's behind the film projector.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryfilmsplicingguidelines.jpg

Mystery: Newspaper Article (Abduction)

Once you're done with the movie theater, head through the alley South of it and as soon as you come out of it, to your right is another opening. Go in and run through the little yard area until you find the item.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterynewspaperabduction.jpg

Side Quest: The Gramophone

This is a very short and easy side quest. Just South of the movie theater on the West side (turn left after the alley), you should see a ladder that is too high to reach. Turn around and head to the red garage doors behind you. There is a hook there. Grab it and pull the ladder down. Once inside, head up the stairs and go into the left room. Grab the crank in the children's room then head down the hall into the main bedroom. On the dresser is a record. Go back downstairs and put the two pieces on the record player (gramophone). Play it until a dead body hows up with a message bout turning back time. Now, play the record again but go backwards. After the scene plays out a man gets out of the painting on the staircase and attacks. Run to the painting and burn it with your lighter to complete the quest. The man will keep attacking if you don't.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/gramophonestartplace.jpg

Side Quest: Homeless (Continued - Coat)

Now you can go get a coat for Homer. Across from the movie theater is a Thrift Store. Head inside and go into the back room for the coat. You can give it to him later though, as it would just be meaningless backtracking when you'll be going that way again later.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/HomelessSQcoat.jpg

Mystery: Newspaper Article (Napier)

Head towards St. Maria's. Go up the curving street and through a gate. Follow along the right side but do not go near the door yet (red circle on your map). Instead go down the stairs to where there is a water fountain. Behind the fountain is the item.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterynewsnapier.jpg

Map: St. Maria's Monastery

As usual, once you enter, check the nearby wall for maps.

Mystery: Poem Fragment 1

Inside St Maria's Monastery, you will eventually get to the Chapel after the little girl runs up the stairs. Inside is a locked gate with the poem behind it. Examine the ropes on the pillars. Burn the closest one to the book. Now examine the chandelier and pull/push it into the gate twice to break the doors open.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterypoemfrag1.jpg

Mystery: Letter Home

Continue on until you pass a staircase and a gate. You'll wind up in a hall. To the right you'll see the class room (as labeled on your map. Head inside and on the desk, is the item. Don't forget to pick up the hook in the back of the classroom for the next puzzle.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryletterhome.jpg

Mystery: Technician's Notes

Grabbing the hook from the classroom, you can now go to the room with the stage. Grab the lever on the table to he right. Now go to the ladder and pull it down. Climb up and on a table near the spotlight is the item.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterytechniciansnotes.jpg

Mystery: Poem Fragment 2

This is related to doing the stage puzzle. You should already have the lever. Grab the record from the drawer in the room behind. Now place the record on the player and the lever on the right mechanism. You must do a very specific order to complete the puzzle.

  1. Turn off the lights using the switch on the right.
  2. Play the record.
  3. Activate the spotlight. Turn it to the middle.
  4. Pull the lever on the left of the spotlight.
  5. Pull the lever on the right of the spotlight.
  6. Turn the handle on the rain machine in the back.
  7. Examine the medal sheet to strike it.

Now the area will turn into what the play was. Head into the cottage and to the chest. Examine it and piece together the puzzle (very easy). You will automatically be awarded the poem.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/poemfrag2openchest.jpg

Mystery: Father's Day Card

When you get to the little girl singing, she will run off. Go through the gate she was behind and to the room on the right of the following hallway. Inside are dolls. Dispose of them and find the item you seek on a desk. Make sure you grab this item before erasing the image on the chalkboard.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryFathersdaycard.jpg

Artifact: Bag (optional)

In the room with the chalkboard you must eventually erase, find this bag on a desk.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/artifactbag.jpg

Continue on from the last item. You'll be in another classroom, and as you exit, head to the right to a small office. Inside the desk on the left is the second evaluation.

Continue from the porch above and to your left again, you will see more houses. The one you want to head into is the one with the light on the door. Once inside, head through the 2nd door left of the stairs. On the desk inside is the picture.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryinscribedsnapshot.jpg

Mystery: Funeral Announcement

Go upstairs in the house and you'll find this on the bed.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryfuneralannouncement.jpg

Side Quest: Ashes to Ashes

This quest starts after you grab the Urn that is in the room. Exit the house and go left. Go left at your first opportunity and follow the path to the piers (the big middle section on the map). Go to the end and there is a bench there. Examine and use the urn. After dumping the ashes, the achievement will unlock.

Note: The circle on your map is to indicate you can go back with the code you found on the bench and get into the safe there for a "special prize". Surprise, it's a colt. You should already have kept one, or have the golden gun by now which is superior. You can just skip the puzzle, it's like the diner one when you got your first colt.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/ashes2ashesSQstart.jpg

Side Quest: Ribbons (Continued)

From the bench where you dropped the Ashes, run to the next pier (if looking on the map, it's the right one). Go down to that area and you will find a key there for the side quest. You still aren't done, and will continue this soon.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/ribbonsSQkeylocation.jpg

Side Quest: Homeless (Continued - Fishing Pole)

As soon as you go back up the ramp from the keys, continue straight ahead. Veer a little to the right and you will see where there is a gap in the gate. Head through it to collect the pole.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/homelessSQfishingrod.jpg

Side Quest: Dead Man's Hand

Make your way back to Rice Street. As you exit from the pier area, you should just head straight across. You should see a set of rails and a ladder. Go to the left of this and down the small alley. Follow the path until you reach a back door. Head inside. Investigate until you find a dead man. You'll see his heart was ripped out and the quest will start. Head down to the basement area and you must find a ladder that leads down. When given the choice there is a path to a fire axe and a path to the ladder. The path on the right is for the ladder. This is one of the most confusing areas of the game and you can easily run around in circles and get lost. Finally when you find the ladder, head down. When you get to a choice in paths, take a right. Continue on and on until you find another path that goes right, and do it once again. Find the heart, and travel backwards. The place will be littered with enemies so be careful and just keep running. To finish the quest, place the heart back inside the man's chest.

Side Bird Cage 3/5

It's been a while since you set free a bird. Head West on Rice street and continue until the overpass. Go up the stairs and continue on. As the road curves, look to your left.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/bird3.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Four Fragment)

Just before you continue, turn completely around, head backwards where you came and look to your right. By the light pole is a cardboard box with the fragment.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/fragment4.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Start Area) Soul Eye

You've already collected and placed a few of these, but now is time to accept and learn a little more about what this quest is. As you come from the above bird cage and pass it, look left and you'll see a door with a light above it. Head inside and go upstairs. Go to the table with the map and light the candles around it. Near this is a chair with a fragment on it. Collect the Soul-Eye fragment. Place it on a nearby desk on the other side of the room. Use your UV Flashlight and turn the piece until it reveals the hidden image of an eye. You may have to click :rs: a few times to get it to work. Basically you use the UV to see the hint, and use the flashlight to cast the shadow. You will then get a token. Place it on the map. You must now do this with the rest of the fragments.

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Four Fragment Placement)

From where you just were in the Shadow Play building, go across the street while veering South. Head through the alley and go left into another alley. In the middle is the place to finish the Four fragment already. It's kind of a two part, you will have to finish one side of the box, then the other. Might take a few tries. Just remember to grab the token.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/fragment4placement.jpg

Side Quest: Ribbons (Finish)

Continue on until you get back to the theater area. Pass the entrance and continue until you see a door with a light above it to your left. Head inside, up the stairs, and open the locked door with the key. Head inside until you find the room with a bed. There is a note. Take the note to complete the quest.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/ribbonentranceapt.jpg

Mystery: Mother's Confession

Finishing the above quest awards you with this note. You do have to pick it up from the bed for it to count.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryMothersconfession.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play

Side Quest: Homeless (Finish)

Now you must run through Logan Park North of the Centennial Building. When you finally exit the park, head to the tunnel entrance on the left side of the street. Remember to turn the piece you placed on the barrel for the Shadow Play quest. Talk to Homer, give him what he wants, and the quest will be over. You'll also have access to shortcuts in the sewers.

Side Quest: Paintings (Continued)

Exit the tunnels from above. Head South on Laymond Avenue and go West on Brite Street. Head all the way to the dead end. Now go South (left of dead end) and you'll find an alley. Follow it to the end where there is a door with a light above it. When you get inside, take your first left and go down the stairs. There is a big table. Place all 6 paintings on the table. You may have to run back upstairs then back down to get them to appear if you had placed them all at once. To complete the puzzle, focus on the red markings and use that as your guidelines. Do not pay attention to the actual paintings, they aren't supposed to match. The quest will continue in Monroe Cemetery near St. Maria's. Before you leave the Gallery, make sure you grab the 3 mystery items upstairs.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/artcollectorSQ.jpg

Mystery: Gallery Letter 1

Mystery: Gallery Owner's Note

Inside the Gallery while doing the quest above, after coming back upstairs, go left in the hallway. The left door has both of these items inside. One on the desk and one on the couch arm.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/msterygallaryletter1andnote.jpg

Mystery: Gallery Letter 2

Go left from the previous items and inside the big room on the counter is the other letter.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterygalleryletter2.jpg

Side Quest: Paintings (Finished)

Head to the Monroe Cemetery next to St. Maria's. There will be a ladder to climb down in one of the crypts on your right. Go to the little puzzle on your left near the gate. Press in top left, middle, bottom left, and bottom right. This will open a gate. Kill the weeping bat and then continue on. Your reward is a tomahawk inside the middle coffin.

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Healing Fragment)

It's time to visit the area once again where you placed this fragment. To remind you, it's in an area close to where you came out of the apartment. Head back to this area which is right by Cook Street. Go through the little park area then through the alley with the candy dispenser. Now through another area which has the barrel. This one is tricky because you must not only use the UV light, but the regular flashlight too which to me wasn't really obvious.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/healingfragmentlocationcomplete.jpg

Side Quest: Bird Cage (4/5)

Time to grab another bird. Head all the way back to Rice Street. This was the area after St Maria's and had the Dead Man's Hand quest you enjoyed so much. Run to the very end of Rice Street where there is a dead end. Now look to your right for the cage.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/bird4.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Harmony Fragments and Placement)

Your next stop is on King Avenue. There is a bridge and you must lower it to continue on in the game. Go to the control tower and climb up a ladder. Next to the lever is one of the pieces you will need (Harmony, 2nd Part).

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/Shadowplaysqharmoney1.jpg

Now to get the first part. Go back down the ladder then down the stairs. Go left, noting as you pass by the place where you will notice the actual symbol for the quest. Go into the door and exit out the back. Right where the door swings to is a box with the other fragment.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/shadowplayharmony2.jpg

Backtrack back to the symbol. Place the first piece, match it, then place the 2nd and match that one until you create the star.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/shadowharmonyplacement.jpg

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Finish)

Time to knock this horrible side quest out for good. Head back to the building with the map and where the Shadow Eye is (the building near Bird 3). Go up and place all of the tokens on the counter. This puzzle is fairly easy, just put the tokens on each area that has some of the symbol on it. After completing the side quest you get a demon statue, considered the best melee weapon in the game.

Side Quest: Mirror, Mirror

Once you are done with everything, continue on over the King Ave. Bridge. When you get to the big semi truck, go left then look to your left. There is a house with a light on it. Head inside and go into the second room on the first floor. Inside you will see a mirror. Look inside of it and whatever looks different, change it. There are 5 interactive objects. Just look for the one the mirror reflects differently, and examine it. Here are the 5 possibilities:

  • TV on
  • Dresser open
  • Lamp on
  • Picture rotated correctly
  • Candle Lit

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mirrormirrorSQoutside.jpg

Mystery: Suicide Note

After the above quest, there is a note on the ground in front of the mirror. This should be your last note before moving on to the point of no return, the prison.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterysuicidenote.jpg

Side Quest: Bird Cage (5/5) Finish

Continue on the path, and you will arrive at the docks. Go to the back of the docks to find the bird. This should be your last quest and you should get the achievement for finishing all quests. Keep in mind, there is actually the Digging Up the Past side quest, which is only available on the next playthrough, so not required for the achievement Silent Hill Tour Guide.

STORY PROGRESSION

Finish up anything else you need to do. The next area of the game will be the last, and there is no going back once you get on the boat.

Mystery: Handwritten Note

This is the first collectible in the Overlook Penitentiary. As you start making your way, this will fall onto the ground before going into the stairs area.

Hint: Do not go down the stairs, continue on and push over the beam and cross over it to continue on.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryHandwrittenNote.jpg

Map: Cells

Once you go down the ladder in the guard tower (after crossing the beam), look on the wall.

Mystery: Psychological Evaluation (Overlook)

When you get to the area with the safe, look nearby for the item on the table.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterypsychologicaleval.jpg

Mystery: Prisoner's Letter (1)

You'll find this letter in Cells A3 map area. There will be room called "Cloak Room" with some supplies in it. Continue on from here and you would reach a stairs area. Go right instead, and the ground will shake and scare you. Look in the last cell near the dead end.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryprisonersletter1.jpg

Mystery: Prisoner's Letter (2)

When you get down t he stairs and have to fight the first enemy (a brawler), continue and your first cell on your right should have a shelf. Interact with it to move it aside. Now tear the poster off the wall to get the mystery behind it.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryprisonerletter2.jpg

Mystery: Angry Letter

Once the world "changes" a little bit and you are walking through water, you'll end up in a dead end prison cell with a swinging light. On the little desk by the bed is the letter.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryAngryLetter.jpg

Mystery: BOLO Alert

As you progress, you'll get back to Cells A-3. You'll have to smash a lock and run past a wire that's bouncing off the cell. Use the keycard to get into the next area. Inside the security room there is a drawer to open that has this item in it.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryBoloalert.jpg

Mystery: Magazine Article

Go through the door you opened while in the security room (green light). Right as you enter, look left and try to open the gate with the access card. Squeeze through and look for the item in the middle locker.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysterymagazinearticle.jpg

Map: Block B

From above go through the cell door and grab the map out of the drawer.

Mystery: Prisoner's Letter (3)

Once you get through another door that you opened from a security area, you will come into a hall and there will be 3 enemies you have to face (2 on a leash at first). The second cell on the left has a note on the ground.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryprisonerletter3.jpg

Mystery: Work Release Program Application

You'll arrive at a workshop looking room with machinery. Near the license plate machine, there is a mystery item on the counter. This is right before the forensic flashlight.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryworkrelease.jpg

Mystery: Prisoner's Letter (4)

This is right next to the UV flashlight you will be collecting after the above room with the machinery.

Hint: 22345 is the code for the control panel. You do not have to search for clues if you don't want to.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryprisonerletter4.jpg

Mystery: Newspaper Headline

After crawling through the vent and falling, you'll be in the Day Room (cafeteria). After fighting off enemies and using a key card, you'll go upstairs. The table in the room you enter has it.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/mysteryNewspaperheadline.jpg

Mystery: Whistle Blower Letter

Literally after the above item, look to the right of the room and it's in front of some lockers.

ONCE YOU HAVE BEATEN THE GAME, A NEW SIDE QUEST AWAITS

Side Quest: Digging Up the Past

Basically you have to dig up 7 relics hidden within Silent Hill. This gives you not only another quest based achievement, but also gives you Ending E. A trick to save yourself a playthrough is to dig up 6 of the 7 relics. Do not dig up the last one, which is in the final area of the city, before you get on a boat to go to the prison. You will have 6 of 7 completed. Make a backup save on USB or Cloud. Now continue and beat the game getting your 2 endings. Now, load your backup save and dig up the last dig site. Now finish the game to get the other ending.

To dig up these relics you will need a shovel. They seem to be lying around in a lot of places. Once you find one, maybe just keep it as a main weapon if you want.

Dig Site 1 Hillside

When you get into Silent Hill, you'll see this to the right in a little yard by the porch. Do this before using the hook to climb the ladder that leads out of Hillside.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig1.jpg

Dig Site 2 Hillside

At the end of Hillside, you must bring a ladder down to cross into an apartment. Opposite of this ladder is the dig site. Do this before using the hook to climb the ladder that leads out of Hillside.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig2.jpg

Dig Site 3

After exiting the apartment and talking to the mail man, head through the alley. You'll see this in your normal path to the street.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig3.jpg

Dig Site 4

This is located in Logan Park near the end on the right. You can get it before the Centennial Building or you can get it later when you get the gate unlocked.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig4.jpg

Dig Site 5

After you get through the Centennial Building and walk past the movie theater, you'll go through an alleyway. Right as you exit go through the gate on the right and at the end of that yard is the dig site.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig5.jpg

Dig Site 6

Head to St Maria's. Hook around right down the steps. Continue down the steps until you continue straight along a path, right to the dig site.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/SilentHill/dig6.jpg

Dig Site 7

Your last dig site is in the port area before getting on the boat. There is a semi truck and across from it is a house with the mirror side quest. Check the yard for the last one.

I think you may have forgotten to put the last Dig Site.

But have to say Im glad you did this guide, as your stuff is always clear and easy to follow. This could have been a nightmare if it hadnt been written in the way it was.

Also oddly I got the "Silent Hill Historic Society" achievement before getting the final collectible.

does the "Artifact: Bag (optional)" make up for missing the " Mystery: Father's Day Card" in the Monastery if you used the eraser and the door becomes locked?

EDIT- found out for myself it DOES, just unlocked the achievement after picking up the last pieces in the prison

Perfect guide! Got the achievement after the second to last collectible for some reason (collecting all the optional ones listed in this guide) :)

Yeah, this is weird. I also collected every optional item listed here and unlocked it after picking up the last one in the prison. Got a little scared when it didn't unlock right away. Took a few seconds ^^

For the Finish-all-sidequests-ach., do I have to do it in ONE playthrough or can I do some in one and some in another? Please do not tell me I have to do all of those again... :(

if your on your first playthrough, you have to do all of them except digging up the past. If your own your second playthrough, then you have to do all of them plus digging up the past

Awesome guide, thanks much. Will say two things though, the ordering could do with a little shuffling. Sometimes the guide leads to some annoying back and forthing, like when you finish the painting quest, you go from the house with the painting all the way to the graveyard and then all the way back for a Shadow Play fragment. And your "wrong" in some parts about the location of things, that is, your right or wrong depending on what puzzle difficulty your playing on. Like I said though, the guide is great and helped immensly.

really wierd for me just started the game on easy game hard puzzles and this at the beggining of the guide just is not there:

'You'll be able to play through the start of the game without worry of collectables. But you will want to pick up the walkie talkie opposite of the driver side of the bus, and the flashlight from the corpse on your left after ducking under a log.'

so i found em the walkie is over the water on the land part away from the bus and actually its not opposite to the drivers side it is on the drivers side of the bus and the corpse os where the birds fly out, i misread your description.

I didn't think there was much back-and-forth, maybe I was just focused on the end of certain quests and didn't mind running a little extra. I don't know. As for the things in wrong places, I noted at the top of the guide that it's for Hard Puzzle playthroughs.

Opposite of the driver meant you are looking at the driver, then turn completely around and walk the opposite direction. I went ahead and just removed that entire introduction. There are multiple places to find those types of items if you miss them.

im using this guide which is really helping me but this candy bar dispenser just has me walking around in circles when i come out of the appartment and back onto the streer lansdale ave i just dont know which way im ment to go at all, i dont see an obvious alley.

Side Quest: Shadow Play (Shadow Symbol: Healing)

When you leave the apartment building, go through alley that has the candy bar dispenser (buy one for the future quest: Homeless). As you exit the gated area towards the street, take a right and follow the sidewalk to the corner of the building. There is a box with this item in it. Grab it, then backtrack through the alley with the dispenser again.

ok so i wasnt leaving the apartment by the front door i was leaving the same way i came in out of the window, my error but im sure im not the 1st or last to be stupid
