Introduction:

Welcome to Michael Jackson: The Experience, a game which allows you to perform a range of Michael Jackson’s songs with both singing and dancing. This is not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. Actually, it is quite possibly the hardest Kinect game out there because the songs have 5 star requirements that are quite high compared to other dance games. Add in the fact that you don’t receive much in the way of feedback from the game and you are looking at an experience where you really have to work for your gamerscore.

Step 1: Play and 5 star every performance

That’s really all you need to do to complete this game. But if you read the 10/10 difficulty and the introduction, you’ll know that 5 starring each song is not going to be easy. You’ll get a few achievements pretty easily, but many will require a lot of skill with Kinect and a good sense of positioning. There are 29 different songs on disc, 5 of which are only vocals and 9 songs have a “performance” mode and a “master performance” mode with a much harder dance routine. So there aren’t too many songs that you actually need to master, but the hard ones can be brutally hard. Everything else will come naturally as you try to 5 star everything except for possibly CALL IT A NIGHT and SUPER STAR, so just stay focused and practice. It’s all going to come down to practice in the end.

Just a quick note that almost every 5 star score listed in the guide below is just an estimate. It may take a few more or a few less points to hit 5 stars, but for the most part, the score should be within 1000 points.

You can do the songs in any order, but it is probably best to start with the vocal performances so that you can get a feel for the timing of the game, then take it song by song after that. If the song has a master performance, make sure you can 5 star the regular performance, then move on to the master performance before trying another song.

General Tips:

Each song will contain tips and hints specific to the performance, but there are a few things that are common to every song.

Vocals:

Unlike most music games, there is no pitch guide. You are simply presented with the song’s lyrics in a karaoke style. As a result, it is quite difficult to succeed on a song if you don’t know it. If you’ve purchased this game, you are probably at least familiar with most of the more famous songs, like Billie Jean or Beat It. If you know the song, it becomes much easier to sing it. Alternatively, you can try placing your Kinect or mic near the speaker to have the game sing for you, but that is not necessarily the most reliable way of doing things.

If you need to hear the song, the full catalogue of songs that appear on this game has been compiled in THIS THREAD.

In vocals, the small lag that most TVs and sound systems have can prevent you from getting a perfect rating on many phrases. As a result, it is often better to sing just a little ahead of the first note of the phrase in order to ensure that you hit that first word. The last word of the phrase is actually the most important, particularly on short phrases. Missing every word but the last can often save your multiplier and hitting every word but the last can cost you your multiplier.

Since you are going to have to dance and sing in the same song, make sure you have your mic handy for a quick transition. Some people use a wireless Lips mic, I use a Rock Band mic on a mic stand at the edge of Kinect’s view and others have one person singing and another dancing (though the achievements are supposed to be done solo and doing the routine twice to get both people the achievement may not be pleasant). Either way, make sure that your mic is always easily accessible and that you can sing in view of Kinect since the Crown icon that doubles your multiplier only appears in vocal sections and you need to be visible to Kinect in order to activate it.

Dancing:

First off, try not to dance in baggy pants. The tracking is decent in the game, but you probably should not make it harder for the game by hiding your legs. If you can, dance in shorts or some sort of tighter workout wear. On one performance, that adjustment was enough to give me an additional 10,000 points.

There are three types of dance moves in the game: the moves, the poses and the “Michael Jackson” poses. The Michael Jackson poses are coloured gold and are simply poses that are held for some time. The poses are coloured blue and vary in length from a single beat to two full bars, though the game will change things up and have some of the blue cards end up being single note transitions between poses, such as a rise from a crouching pose to a standing pose. For poses, it is often best to transition a bit ahead of the dance card so that when the timer runs down and the card comes up, you are already in the pose. This becomes tricky for single beat poses, so there is a certain amount of practice that will be required. Furthermore, in poses, it is quite easy to lose your multiplier on a pose by having one small difference between yourself and the dancers on screen, such as not getting low enough or moving left into the pose as opposed to moving right into the pose.

The regular dance moves are coloured white and almost always last for at least a bar. Often they repeat at least once and are quite easy to manage. This is not universal, though. The biggest issue is that sometimes the timing can be quite unforgiving. If you find that you are dancing behind the pace of the dancers on the screen, you will rarely get a perfect rating and quite frequently lose your multiplier. In general, you want to be keeping the pace of the dancers or the beat of the song. Sadly, what you want to keep pace with will vary from song to song (or even from section to section in the same song). Finally, be aware of what the game is actually tracking. A part of the card will be coloured in white to indicate the focus of the move, and in general that is what you need to nail.

Conclusion:

There are some moderately easy performances in this game, but a lot of the songs will require practice and dedication to learn the routine. Often the 5 star level requires maintaining your multiplier throughout the song or getting a large number of perfect moves and phrases. As you approach the completion, you will wish that you could adjust the calibration of the songs and actually practice the Master routines (only the regular performances are available in practice). Good luck and enjoy the songs.

Achieved a 5 star rating in "Who Is It" in performance mode

5 Star Score: ~101,000

The majority of this song is vocals, with only three short dancing sections appearing. The vocals of the song are kind of challenging if you don’t know the song, since there are several short phrases that can easily cost you your multiplier. Try to listen to the song if you are having difficulties or keep practicing until you nail it. The dance sections are short and quick, with a lot of two note poses and very deliberate dance moves. In general, you want to make sure you are on the poses a bit earlier than the dancers and that you are not behind on the moves.

Achieved a 5 star rating in "Dirty Diana" in performance mode

5 Star Score: ~109,000

This song is almost all vocals. There is a small interlude in the middle which includes several dance poses, but they are not terribly quick, so you should be able to pick them up fairly easily. For the vocals, the phrases are mostly mid length and don’t require a high level of vocal skill outside of a few variations, so you should be able to muddle your way through and keep your multiplier. For the chorus, the phrases have few words but are all held (aside from a few exclamations), so as long as you hit a bit of each word, you will get a perfect rating.

5 Star Score: ~102,000

The vocals on this song are not too hard so long as you know how it goes (I got a far better vocal score after hearing the song on the radio). Most of the phrases are mid length with a few shorter phrases in the “I ain’t scared of…” section. In dancing sections, do not overdo the poses. When your back up dancers change to the gangster looking fellow, you might be tempted to overdo the poses, but stay calm and loose. Even if it looks like your arms are resting much lower than they should when crossed, keep them against your chest. For some reason the last move or two of the Russian dancing section tracks very poorly (or maybe it is just a very narrow timing window), frequently awarding a miss or almost and is something that may just have to be overcome. The final dancing section has one move that may cause issues. The move that has your back up dancers leaning a little to the side and alternating each shoulder up and down can be tricky, but they key is in the dance card. The card has the hands highlighted, so make sure you move your hands in time with your shoulders.

Achieved a 5 star rating in "Stranger In Moscow" in performance mode

5 Star Score: ~109,750

This is a very easy song on vocals, since the phrases are all quite slow, allowing you to adjust your pitch if it doesn’t sound right. However, the dance sections are quite hard. There are a lot of poses to match, most of which are two notes. As a result, you will need to not only know what pose you are striking, but what pose is coming up in order to get ahead of it. Furthermore, one of the poses is actually a slow transition, so watch out for that in the middle sections. The real issue is that the 5 star score is quite high, requiring a score with 99-100% singing and 88-90% dancing. So not only are you going to need to keep your multiplier, but you are going to need to get quite a few perfects to get 5 stars. Make sure that you are on pace with the dancers in the dance moves, or even a touch ahead and that you are aware of the correct transitions to try and get as many perfects as you can.

5 Star Score: ~104,000

Most of the vocal phrases are quite long, and don’t have that much pitch variation, so as long as you have a good idea of the pace of the song and the key, you should be fine for vocals. The dance moves include a lot of two note poses, so as always, be aware of what is coming next and make sure you aren’t late on the pose. The dance moves are all very deliberate or very slow, so you shouldn’t have that much trouble picking them up, so long as you are aware of which foot you need to move first.

5 Star Score: ~92,000

This is quite possibly the easiest song on the disc. The vocal phrases are all quite long or slow, so you should be able to at least keep your multiplier throughout the song, if not getting mostly perfects. The key changes later in the song, and the pitch gets higher, but the song is still very easy.

There is a challenging section where you all of a sudden switch to the backup singers of the song, but so long as you are aware of it, you shouldn’t have that many problems. There is a long break in the song near the end when Jackson and McCartney are talking to each other, but if you do not have 5 stars by that point, don’t worry. There is a three line singing section after the talking section.

There are a lot of phrases with sustains in them to help you maintain your multiplier, and the 5 star cut off is actually quite low for this song, so this should be a pretty easy achievement. There is a key change to watch out for, but nothing really difficult if you know how the song goes.

The vocals of this song are pretty easy, since there are a lot of sustained words and long phrases. The only thing you need to be aware of is to make sure you hit the short “Stop it!” phrases. The dancing is almost as easy, though the puppet drop move can be hard on the knees. When you are doing those moves, make sure that your knees are in the correct position: out like you are riding a horse while up vs in and together like you have to pee when you are down.

There are some challenging phrases in the song since there are several short phrases where missing the last world will mean an automatic lost multiplier. But the song isn’t difficult because the outro is quite long and easy, and there are a lot of sustains that you can use to rack up points and maintain your multiplier.

5 Star Score: ~141,000

This is a very hard song. The vocals are mostly short phrases, and the pitch is not exactly clear at times since the vocals are almost whispered as opposed to sung. So, it will take some practice. The biggest thing to be aware of is to sing ahead of the vocal track as mentioned in the road map. In this case, though, that involves moving to the higher “you” a little early in the “Annie are you okay?” section while making sure that you nail the final word of each phrase.

For dancing, there is a very fast pose before the second vocal section, which is problematic because the first line of the second section is where the crown appears, so make sure you hit that pose before moving on to vocals. Ignore the first word of the vocal section if you have to, just hit that pose. Another tricky move is the one where you move from an “I Dream of Genie” style pose to a pose where you put your left hand on your head and put your right hand out to the side. On that move, make sure you keep your feet planted, only twisting to get your right leg into the proper position. If you step, it will likely cost you your multiplier. Finally, on the move where you slide backwards with one hand on your head and the other out in front of you, make sure you do not get behind the dancers.

5 Star Score: ~126,000

This song is has a lot of long vocal phrases making it pretty easy. Plus, if you are playing this game, this is probably a song that you know, so the vocals shouldn’t be an issue. The moves are also quite easy, since the song is mostly long repeating moves and 4 note poses and you have a substantial margin for error.

5 Star Score: ~132,000

The vocals of this song are actually quite challenging, with a lot of subtle changes in the phrase which will prevent you from getting a perfect rating if you aren’t careful. The vocals also have a very staccato pacing, though you are better off with a very fluid style, with one word leading into the next. The biggest issue is the dancing sections, which include a lot of fast poses. In the later stages, the poses are actually quite complicated, requiring fast changes. However, make sure you don’t transition to the next move too quickly. Kinect can get confused by fast jerky movements, so you are better off slowing the transition down just a touch in order to make sure that it gets picked up in time for the next pose. For pretty much every move you need to be aware of your hands, wrists and elbows. Some of the cards look like they have more rounded arms, but try to make sure that your wrists and elbows are at 90 degrees as much as possible and that your hands are open and flat. For the most part, you want to be on the beat of the song, ahead of the dancers, rather than focusing on the dancers. The timing window actually seems to be a little finer in the second dancing section, so make sure you are just a little ahead of the dancers in that section, as well as the move that has you moving side to side and doing a variation on “It’s a good field goal.”

5 Star Score: ~150,000

This is a fairly easy song. Even though the vocals are a little tricky outside the chorus the dance moves are very repetitive and easy. The cards can be a little vague at times, but that is usually because the moves are very simple. There are a lot of side steps and simple arm movements, most of which last for quite some time. If you are not able to figure out what to do from the cards, just watch the dancers and you should pick the move up pretty quickly and at least get a good rating, if not perfect. Just be aware that the moves will occasionally switch to double time, so be careful not to miss the transitions.

This is another song where you will probably know it pretty well if you have bought the game. That said, knowing the song inside and out may hurt you. You are going to want to sing ahead of the first word of the phrase in most cases (just hold the first note a touch longer to get back on pace), and often have the last word of the phrase seamlessly transition into the first word of the next phrase to ensure you get perfects. There is also a challenge in the phrases about dancing on the floor in the round, since the lag really hits these phrases hard, though you should still keep your multiplier easily. For the dancing, there are a few problem moves that you will need to be aware of. If the heel flick does not seem to track properly, the game just needs to see movement in your foot. Standing in a similar pose but tapping your foot like a pantomime horse seems to track fairly effectively. For the move where you drop down then shoot back up, make sure that you bring your knees together when you go down, almost as if you had to pee. And make sure not to overdo the move where you bring your knee up and your elbow down.

The vocals are challenging because of how high the pitch is. Even female gamers may have trouble hitting the high notes that make up this song. But you should be able to just sing an octave or two lower if you need, though this may take some practice. The dance moves in this song are pretty fast, with some tricky transitions, so practice is probably your best friend on this one. The biggest tip for the dancing is to watch the dancers’ knees, since there is a lot of motion in them on some of the moves, and ignoring it could lead to a lost multiplier.

This is another song with tricky vocals, so it would be a good idea to listen to the song a few times. There are several short phrases that you will have to deal with, as well as a wide range of pitches throughout the song. For the dancing, the main moves are pretty easy since they repeat and are pretty long. Even if you mess up the transition, you should be able to adjust by watching the dancers and at least maintain your multiplier. The challenging part is the poses. The same advice applies to this song: make sure you know what is coming up in the next pose, hit the transition and don’t get behind the poses. A lot of the poses are only 2 notes, so you will probably need a few practice runs in order to keep up.

Achieved a 5 star rating in "Beat It" in performance mode

5 Star Score: ~168,000

This should be one of the easiest songs in the game. Unfortunately, it ends up being the most frustrating as the timing of the moves appears to change in the final dancing section. But let’s tackle this normally. First off, the vocals are very easy, since you will probably know this song quite well. There are a lot of very long phrases and there isn’t that much variation in the pitch of the song, so even if you mess up a little, you are probably going to end up with a good rating and maintain your multiplier. For the dancing, the same thing is true. The moves are a little fast, and they are a little complex at times (particularly the butterfly move which sees you moving both arms in a circle) but they repeat very frequently. For the most part, you are going to want to stay on the beat of the song, which would put you ahead of the backup dancers. Just be aware of the speed of the moves and when you are leaning to one side or the other.

But, after the final vocal section (the one with the crown at the beginning), the timing window of the moves seems to change. It appears as though the song is just glitched to an extent, but the timing change can be overcome. There are many suggestions listed in THIS THREAD that you can try, though they mostly amount to the same tips of being on the beat of the song and ahead of the dancers. One thing that affected my score was running the game sound through my TV as opposed to my speakers. One last thing: There are not enough points available before the final dancing section to get 5 stars. You will need to find some way to extract as many points as you can from the final section as possible, even if it is just maintaining your multiplier for a little longer.

The vocals are not that difficult in this song. For the most part, if you are having trouble with the song, you can hear the section you will need to sing in the preview when you select the song from the menu. Some of the phrases are short, but they are not that difficult outside of the talkie section at the end of the second vocal section. For the dancing, be aware of the transitions and watch for the moves at the end that move from a left-right-left-right pattern to a left-right-left-left pattern. Fortunately, those moves are long enough that you can often recover if you miss it. Just make sure that you keep an eye on what the backup dancers are doing.

5 Star Score: ~142,000

The vocals of this song are not that bad. The chorus includes a lot of short phrases, so you will want to make sure that you nail those short phrases to keep your multiplier, particularly since the crown appears in the chorus that you need to sing. The dancing is quite challenging, though. This is mostly because of the fact that the cards that come up are not that descriptive and some are even misleading. As a result, you are probably going to want to run through the song a few times and try to determine what the difference is between the card and the backup dancers. For example, there is a pose where it looks like you should just crouch down and have your arms out to the side at a 45 degree angle, but the dancers actually have their elbows bent and their hands forward as if they were playing the piano. Like any song that features 2 note poses, be aware of what is coming and make sure you don’t get behind the dancers.

The vocals of the song is not that difficult, but for some reason the pitch needed seems a bit sharp. There are also several “exclamation” phrases that you will need to hit in order to maintain your multiplier (things like “Hee hee!” or "Aaow!"). There are a lot of poses in this song, and the transitions seem to matter a great deal. Basically, if the backup dancer moves left into the pose and you move right into the pose, you will probably lose your multiplier. Like everything, practice so that you have a good idea of the poses and make sure you don’t get behind the dancers.

This is a very hectic song. There are a lot of fast lyrics and a lot of variation in the pitches. It is highly recommended that you listen to the song to get a good idea of how it goes if you do not already know it just to be able to maintain your multiplier, since learning on the fly will probably end in many misses. Also, do not belt it out at the top of your lungs. The song is very busy and as a result you don’t have a lot of time to catch your breath. For the dancing parts, there are a lot of 2 note poses, a few of which occur off the normal pace (ie, you will get a 6 count move followed by a 2 count pose). Standard advice of watching the dancers to make sure you don’t miss the transitions and practicing so you know what is coming applies. There are a few complex moves and asymmetrical moves (left-right-left-left), but they appear frequently, so you will have many opportunities to practice the moves that are giving you issues.

Achieved a 5 star rating in "Thriller" in performance mode

5 Star Score: 176,500

This is another song that seems like you need to sing a little sharp, but being sharp will help you get through the song, particularly in the section which bizarrely made every single word of the line “Killer, Chiller, Diller, Thriller” into its own phrase. The most problematic move in the song is the one that you see when you first start the routine. When it asks you to shake your hips and pump your arms before shooting up and out to the side, almost like you were trying to fly like Superman, the timing is pretty unforgiving. So, make sure that you start and end with the correct hand. If you think you have screwed up, or get confused at all, skip the first arm pump and come in for the second once you have your bearings. You won’t get perfect, but you will almost certainly keep your multiplier. The rest of the song contains some of the most famous dance moves around. You will have seen them around at some point, whether it be in the music video, a commercial for Halloween costumes or a YouTube video of a wedding party. Seriously, this routine is a pretty big deal. The only thing to look out for is that the moves have been subdivided in a lot of cases, so the left hand side of the move is a separate move from the right hand side, meaning it is a little harder to recover if you mess up.

There are a lot of long phrases throughout this song, but they contain a high level of pitch variation. So you aren’t going to be in that much danger of losing your multiplier on the vocal sections, but you will have to practice quite a bit to get perfects or know the song quite well. For the dancing sections, the poses seem to be more forgiving than the actual moves, which is uncommon. The moves feature a number of hip and shoulder twists and flicks, and many of them have been subdivided so that the left hand part is a different move from its mirror on the right. This makes it very easy to lose your multiplier. Your best bet is to just glance at the cards to see what move is coming next and keep your eyes on the dancers as much as you can. Watch them for the transitions and try not to get too far behind.

This is by far the most technically challenging routine on the disc. The lyrics are the same as they were on the normal version, with lots of short phrases and a vocal lag that means you want to hit the “you” in “Annie, are you okay?” a little early if you can. The reason why this is hard is because you will start seeing a lot of single beat poses. These poses are based on full moves from the regular version, so you might have a good handle on them already, but they come very fast. But not as fast as you might think. One of the easiest ways to screw up and lose your multiplier is to take these poses too fast. Remember, as fast as they might be you are still dealing with Kinect which can have trouble detecting fast movements. As a result, if you are having a lot of trouble getting the poses to register, try half-assing them. Instead of going full out trying to get to the pose in time, go a little slower and try to get the basics of the pose. Just put your hand out a little bit and lift your knee instead of actually kicking out. You won’t get a perfect, but you will probably keep your multiplier. There are a number of other moves that will cause problems like that, so try taking them a little slower. It may not look as cool, but you will keep your multiplier more often than if you were dealing with the move at full speed. As usual, do not get behind the pace of the dancers, though. Another thing of note is that there is a quick pose before every vocal section, so you are likely to lose your multiplier going into the vocals. It’s a pain, but they seem to have the finest timing of all. The most important one to hit is the one at the end of the second dance section since right after it is the crown. Be ahead of the dancers for that one and hold it until you see a rating, just to be sure.

In general, this one is just down to practice and knowing what comes next without looking at the dancers. In particular this is because there is a lot of head nodding in this routine. And it is often quite fast, so you will need to know how long the move lasts without being able to get a good look at the cards. For the most part, these moves all lead into the same “puppet leg” move, though.

The routine for this song is not that different than the one for the regular version of the song, but there are a few tricky differences to be aware of. First, the vocals are identical, so if you can get the vocals in the regular version, you can get it in this version. The big thing to be aware of is the pacing of the song, since you will want to be much more fluid in your vocals than the actual vocals of the song. For dancing, there are a few more poses thrown in, but they are almost the same as the poses you saw in the regular performance. There is one card that is straight up wrong, though. In the last section of poses, when you drop into a squat with your arms straight down between your knees, do not stand back up until you are done with the leaning poses. Ignore the lower body in the card that tells you to stand back up. As with the regular performance, try to make sure that your shoulders, wrists and elbows are at 90 degree angles in most of the poses, even if the card shows rounded arms.

Just like the regular performance, the dancers are behind on the moves. As a result, you want to make sure you are ahead of the dancers, particularly for the more high motion moves. For the moves where you do the variation on “it’s a good field goal” you want to get your arms up before the dancers. I found it was actually helpful to move very quickly over, then hold the arms up portion just a touch longer. Finally, when you have your hands above your head then drop into a squatting “who knows” sort of pose, try not to overdo the squat, but make sure you reach the pose before the dancers. The big plus is that a lost multiplier is not as fatal in this song as it is in others, since there are more moves available. Of course, that depends on where you lose the multiplier.

Again, this is a fairly easy song on vocals. It has long phrases, and should be fairly familiar if you are playing this game. Fortunately, it looks as though the timing on the final section of the song is more forgiving than it is on the regular performance version of the song. However, they dialed up the complexity of the dancing, so it is still a very difficult song. First, you will be seeing the “butterfly” move far more often, which is the challenging move that saw you rotate your arms in a circle. They made it considerably harder, having it be a two note move followed by a finger snap, so make sure you are watching for the move that comes next. Even worse is that they seem to have made the timing for that finger snap a little finer, so practice is your friend in this case. Second, they seem to have made the walking finger snap move harder by not being good with subtle moves. As a result, you are going to want to make sure that you pick up your leg more than you might think you need. Finally, at the beginning you will see two consecutive identical poses. While you may think it is a good idea to just hold the pose, you are better off waiting out the bars in between those two poses standing, transitioning into the second move. Everything else is just the standard tips about being ahead of the dancers.

The vocals of this song are identical to those of the regular performance, so the same advice applies. If you are struggling with the high pitch of the song, feel free to drop it by an octave or two. For the dancing, the biggest change is a section of one note poses in the third dancing section. Just like every fast pose, you are going to want to make sure that you know what is coming, don’t overdo it and don’t get behind the dancers. For the regular moves, the biggest issue is going to be watching the dancers to see which moves are mirrored and which moves are subdivided into left and right. The song is actually fairly forgiving of a lost multiplier because of the short moves, depending on where you lose it. As with the regular performance, make sure you are aware of the twists and the knee movements.

Just like the regular version of the song, the vocal phrases are fairly long and don’t have a lot of pitch variation. The challenge is in the dancing since the moves are all very deliberate and some of the moves are quite short and fast. As a result, it is best to practice the song to have a good idea of what is coming up next. For the marching moves, make sure that you are starting with the appropriate foot and are actually lifting your feet enough to register the move. In the final dancing section, there are a lot of moves that are split in half and mixed in with another move or where the mirror version has been subdivided into a separate move. As a result, you will need to practice a bit to make sure you know what’s coming next. I know that's a repeat from a few lines back, but seriously, practice is hugely important on both this song but throughout the game. It is terrible to fail so close to the end of the song.

You can get this pretty much whenever you want. Just load up the song “Smooth Criminal” on either Performance or Master Performance and perform the Leaning move with a Good rating or better. The move appears about two thirds of the way through the song and the pose is coloured gold on the dance card. Turn to your left, stick your left leg out and lean forward, just like the card shows. You’ll have a lot of warning on the move, since the action stops for a bar or two before this move. This move also acts as a good guide post for the 5 star rating on Smooth Criminal, since I found I wanted to have about 85,000 points when I hit this move in order to have a shot at the 5 star score.

If you’ve managed to pull of the vocals in the regular performance, you can pull off the vocals in the Master performance. They are identical. The part you need to be really cautious of is the line “Killer, Diller, Chiller, Thriller” since every word is its own phrase and it is really easy to mess up one word and lose your multiplier. For the dancing, they took the same moves as the regular performance and just made it more complex. But that extra little bit of complexity was all that was needed to really make the performance a challenge. And just like in the regular performance, the hardest move in the game is the first move that you see, since it now operates in double time. Probably the biggest tip for that move would be to make sure that you do the final part of the move with the hand shooting out before the dancers and hold it. If you muddled through the very fine timing windows you might have just been able to maintain your multiplier on the move with an OK rating. For the “claw” moves, they are in double time later in the game as well, plus operating on both sides, so you will need to make sure that you know what you are doing, particularly since the move now includes a side step. The biggest tip is to not over do it. Instead of bringing your hands down to your waist when transitioning, it is probably best to just curve them across at chest height, so that you do not miss or get behind the dancers. In the end, it is going to come down to whether or not you can make some small timing adjustments on the first move you see and maintain that very fine timing throughout the song, so practice will be required.

Achieved a perfect score performing The Moonwalk in "Billie Jean"

This is pretty easy. The moonwalk obviously appears about three quarters of the way through the song Billie Jean. For the actual move, you will be staying in place, just turning to your right and lifting your heel and bending your knees like you were walking in place. If you do this right, you should move backwards on the screen, eventually going off the left side of the screen and reappearing on the right. If you get a perfect rating, which should involve you crossing over to the other side of the screen, you will unlock this achievement.

The vocals are identical to the regular performance. You’ll probably know this song fairly well if you are playing this game, but make sure you take a more fluid style than the vocals normally have, transitioning from one phrase to the next seamlessly to ensure you get the first word of the next phrase. For the dancing, the same tracking issues persist, so if you are having an issue with the game tracking the heel flick, turn it into a foot tap instead.

The biggest issue with the master version is right at the beginning of the song. There are a lot of poses, and one of them may be a bit misleading. When you see the pose where you step left, crouch a bit with one foot behind the other and stick your hand out, try to have an open left palm facing upwards. This will put your arm in the correct position for the pose. Additionally, one of the cards is straight up wrong. At the end of the section, you will lean back a bit, tap your back heel and slowly move your hand down. The next move is not a mirror version of that move. Instead, keep facing the same way, lean forward a bit and have your hand slowly drop behind you without the heel tap. There are two other poses to be aware of before the moonwalk. These are both very quick, so you are better off half-assing them to keep your multiplier than overdoing it and losing the pace of the song. The song also features spins, but these are pretty easy. If you are getting dizzy from pivoting, you can just walk quickly in a tight circle instead. Just make sure that you do not take too long. Finally, be aware of the moves where you bring your knee up and drop your elbow. The routine features both doubled up versions of this move and mirrored versions, so watch the dancers if you can.

The vocal phrases in this song are pretty short, but they include some long sustains at the end, so you should keep your multiplier fairly easily. The dancing sections are pretty easy since the moves are all pretty long and repeat frequently. As a result, you should be able to pick up the routine pretty quickly. The moves are very forgiving, too, so you should be able to get 5 stars without too much trouble.

The vocals are pretty easy in this song since the phrases are all pretty long outside of the chorus, and the chorus is not complicated to sing. However, the chorus does include a very layered vocal style, so if it seems as though you are not hitting the notes, you might try a different part of the harmony. For dancing, the moves are all very long and repeat frequently. There are a few moves that look like they transition to the next one early, so watch for those and don’t get behind the dancers. Overall, it is a pretty easy song to 5 star.

The vocals of the song are mostly long simple phrases with a few short phrases thrown in at the end of each section. This is not a difficult song to sing, but make sure you don’t miss those short phrases. For the dancing, you are going to be facing a lot of deliberate arm and leg movements. As a result, make sure that you actually lift your leg in the marching sections. There is one move that can cause particular troubles. When you turn to the side, stick your left arm out and bend it while bringing you knee up, do not overdo it. Just bend your elbow a little and straighten it back out again. The timing seems pretty forgiving for the rest of the song.

The vocals of this song include a lot of sustains making it easy to keep your multiplier. Unfortunately, the last vocal section includes several short phrases that are on a different pacing from the rest of the song. As a result, it is very easy to lose your multiplier there. For the moves, most of them are long and repetitive, but a few of the moves have mirrors that do not show on the cards. As a result, watch the dancers for as much as you can. Also, be aware of the shoulder twists with a raised knee accent (you’ll know it when you see it) since they can be tricky if you don’t know they are coming.

For the vocals, the song is pretty easy, though the chorus is quite high pitched. As a result, you might want to drop the pitch by an octave or two. The second vocal section is the chorus, and you’ll see it again several times. Most of the moves are quite long and repetitive, though there is one that you will want to be aware of. When you stick one hand out and shove the other hand down, do not overdo it. Don’t put your stationary hand out too far and try to have your other hand pushing straight down. Don’t have the pushing hand cross your centre line, keeping it at your hip or at your side. You will see the same three poses repeatedly. The timing of them is not very forgiving, so you are going to want to make sure you hit the pose a touch before the dancers, as usual.

Beat a 5 star #1 on a leaderboard

This achievement is a little misleading. The leaderboards are local only, and have no scores on them until you post a score. For this, you will need to post a 5 star score on the local leaderboard and then post a second, higher score on the same song. As a result, you might inadvertently make this achievement very hard on yourself. To make it easy, you can just do an easy performance and stop when you reach the 5 stars. After that, you will want to replay the song and keep going until the end. Earth Song is by far the easiest song in the game, so it would probably be the best song to attempt this on.

Like most rhythm games your multiplier increases with a high performance rating on each move or phrase. For this, you will need to string together enough OK, Good or Perfect ratings to reach a x4 multiplier then reach up to grab the crown when it appears which will double your multiplier and give you this achievement. The crown only ever appears in vocal sections, sometimes at the first phrase, sometimes in the middle. If you do not have a x4 multiplier when you hit the crown, you can still build you multiplier up to x8 on most songs. You only get one chance at this in each song.

Performed 300 songs in Solo Mode

Considering that you only need to get 5 stars on 38 different performances (39 if you count SUPER STAR), 300 songs might seem like you will need to do a lot of grinding. But really, with the difficulty of some of the performances you will probably get this before you have completed the game.

A few tips:

Do not quit halfway through the song. You will not get credit for the performance and you will not have the opportunity to learn the later stages of the song. Even if you know you will not get 5 stars, you are better off completing the performance.

If you ever feel the need to grind, the shortest songs in the game are Black or White and Rock With You. But really, you are better off playing your favourite songs.
