Road Map and Achievement Guide

This is my first Achievement Guide so I'd appreciate any constructive criticism and/or help to make this x360a standard.

Overview:

-Estimated achievement difficulty: 3/10

-Offline: 47 (1000 )

-Online: 0 (0 )

-Approximate amount of time to 1000 : 6-8 Hours

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Story and Free Play.

-Number of missable achievements: 0

-Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No Cheats

-Does difficulty affect achievements?: No Difficulty

-Glitchy achievements: None

-Unobtainable achievements: None

-Extra equipment needed?: Kinect Sensor.

Introduction:

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a very decent but very different sequel to it's predecessor. With the new Kinect sensor being the basis of the game, an easy, and mildly physically challenging, 6-8 hours or so will require you to punch, kick and jump around like an idiot. Note to stretch off before playing (I almost pulled a hamstring) and to ensure there is enough room for you to jump without headbutting the ceiling. No difficulty and only 1 playthrough along with a number of free play games means a reasonably easy 1k for all.

Step 1 - Story Mode

Story Mode should be simple, taking about 2 hours to complete and only requiring one playthrough. All other achievements (such as 'X' number of kills) will be obtained in Free play.

Step 2 - Free Mode

Free Mode achievements are reasonably easy. But the 'Everybody is totally happy!' requires you to get Gold medals in every single event at every difficulty. This may be a reasonably annoying process but worth doing for the 60G.

Conclusion

The achievements can be, at some times, a bit annoying but the guide specifing hints and technique to attain a gold medal in each challenge from free play will make it easier and clearer. I highly siggest being in a well lit room, as for maximum sensor efficiency. Also have a window open or some sort of air conditioning YOU WILL GET HOT!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-iR1Q0=.jpg10G Victory Lap - Win your First Rickshaw Gold Medal

You are able to unlock this in the story but if you happen to miss then it is required for you to complete everything at Gold in Free Play Anyway.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-qw3Lg=.jpg20G Winning Streak - Win 8 Rickshaw Challenges

Achieved in Free Play.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-tQJCs=.jpg30G Victory Lap - Max Out 2 Rickshaw Challenges

Maxing Out means to gain Gold medals on Easy, Normal and Hard. Each Challenge has 3 difficulties. Complete 2 challenges with a Gold Medal on Each Difficulty and you gain the Achievement. These Challenges are best done with gaining as many Iron, Steel or Gold pieces as possible whilst simultaneously trying to defeat the enemies/ get to the finish in the smallest amount of time. For ease of movement I would very much recommend moving your upper body left or right rather than moving your feet aswell. This moves the rickshaw but allows you to maintain balance. Obviously just straighten up again to return to the middle of the screen.

Win your Gold Medal on any difficulty on either Target Challenge.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-svOMw=.jpg20G Skadoosh! - Win 4 Target Challenges

Just Complete 4 Challenges. Each Difficulty counts as a different challenge.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-k9CGU=.jpg30G Paws Of Power - Max Out 2 Target Challenges.

Like the Rickshaw, you must achieve Gold on all 3 difficulties on two seperate Target challenges. The Bonus points, which is what basically aids you in achieving each medal, are achieved when you prevent the wolves without weapons from throwing the crocodile statues at you. Shoot them before they throw the statue and you should get the 1000+ and a bunch of Iron, Steel or Gold thrown at you. Note also to dodge as many red... arrows or whatever they are as they significantly decrease your time. even if you are being barraged with the fire, it's worth dodging.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/+3HWWA==.jpg10G Golden Chopsticks - Win Your First Noodle Gold Medal

Achievable in Story and Free Play

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-2qxzs=.jpg20G Feedin' The Masses - Win 8 Noodle Challenges

Achieved In Free Play. Just complete 8.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-xKP6g=.jpg30G Truth, Justice and Tofu - Max Out 2 Noodle Challenges

Of all the challenges in this game, the noodle ones are the hardest. The sensor sometimes confuses which colour bowl you are intending to choose and will also throw them at the wrong table. This can be prevented by keeping the arm you're not throwing with close to your body and moving your arm eccentricly in the direction you intend. As for the bowls, I personally took up a 'robot' stance with both arms bent at 90 degress from the elbow and moving them straight, left or right in whichever direction the required bowl is in. as for the bonus (1000+) Iron, Steel and Gold bonuses I am still unsure as to what enables them. I would recommend serving each customer in the order they show up. It is also recommended that when bowls are being thrown back at you for extra time, to stand in a nuetral position as to continue when you are able to move again. If you are stood ready to take a red bowl (right hand side) for instance, the Kinect will randomly decide that YOU WANTED A BLUE BOWL and thus ending your service streak if there are no required 'blue' customers.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/5-qD5aQ=.jpg10G Be The Master - Complete All Practice Sessions

Done in Free play. Only one difficulty on each different activity required, but you're gonna have to complete everything at Gold anyway, so you're not really gaining anything.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/+pEuyw==.jpg10G Fists Of Gold - Win Your First Arena Gold

Probably Gonna Achieve in Story but Free Play, as Usual, is there.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/+FbCVg==.jpg20G Bodacious Battler - Win 8 Combat Challenges

Complete 8 Combat Challenges in Free Play.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1272/+bY6xQ==.jpg30G Arena Master - Max Out 2 Arena's

These are the Easiest Challenges to Max Out. Just complete Easy, Normal and Hard on two seperate Combat Arena activities and it's done. The dodges (Orange and Red) are a lot more complex than the simple blocks. A lot of the time the Kinect will pick up you dodging left or right (Red) when really you're intending to duck (Orange) I would suggest keeping your upper body straight and bending at the knees so that your downward movement is picked up by the sensor. These types of dodges, for me, tended to show up in the Gorilla scenario's, although they do seem to be hit and miss so don't expect anything.

That's right EVERY SINGLE ONE. And not even, as the achievement says, earn each one. You have to complete EVERY single one at gold level. This shouldn't be hard bearing in mind the hints and tips included, but can be a bit annoying. Stick in there though because after burning all of those calories you want the 1000G to go with it.

Nice job for your first guide. It may look a little empty to people who haven't played yet but that's because these achievements are so straightforward. I had a hell of a time getting gold medals on the target challenge with the wolves. I'll be interested to see if people ask for more specifics on technique. Apparently some people can't play the noodle challenges but I thought they were the best part of the game.

Thanks man, I've literally been checking the thred every other hour to see if I got any replies. I'll give some more technique specifics if required but i think people have to understand that Kinect is extremely diverse, dependant on things like the size of your room and how far away you are. I think sometimes with bonus' though they are completely random so if you don't get it, just try again. Gold medals are more persistance rather than skill.

Great job on this guide. I would love to get more tips on techniques.

I agree on your ppint about Kinect being tricky. For example I'm having a hard time nailing the blocks. Sometimes they kick in right away, other times I miss using the same position (as far as I can tell anyway). I suspect, it may have to do with changes in lighting. Just when I found the "sweet spot", light conditions may have changed such that the sensor sees something different. Just a theory.

Just updated with more tips. I've only rented the game and it's to be returned tommorow. If any of you guys have any tips to include then I suggest please putting them in the comments. I will add to the guide if I deem necessary! Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am at a part where you have 3 times 3 wolves and then a wolf boss, I keep getting killed, because the orange blow I simply cannot dodge. After getting killed, it starts from the first of the ten fights. Is this serious?? I have tried your method as well, but did not manage a SINGLE dodge for orange... I am so happy I bought it used, THQ should go bankrupt.

EDIT- well, I moved the sensor around a bit and found a place where light and position was ok for it to register my dodge move as you described it, piace of cake afterwards... :)

I started the game today and breezed through the story...

In the free play... the Noodle Challenges are a pain in the @ass... very difficult because of the throwing...

The rickshaw aren't very hard but in the hard difficulty they will require some replays...

The Arena matches are easy

The target challenges are weird to me... did one where I got a combo up to 30x and only got silver!!

But haven't played that many challenges... but I think that due to have to get all gold medals in all challenges in all difficulties the difficulty rating should probably be a 5 instead of 3

Helbrect, great guide. Thanks alot! I just finished my 1000. Here are a couple more tips for others having a tough time:

Noodle Challenge: For me, the "sweet spot" for the lighting was pretty much straight in front of me, almost right beside the kinect sensor. I used a tall 3-light lamp, and turned the light shades toward me. Also, I found it better to NOT extend my arms far from my body, using little T-Rex arm movements while stirring the noodles. Just BEFORE I finished stirring, I'd extend my arms halfway out from my body toward the table I was aiming for. The noodles will still finish stirring, and my arms will already be pointing the right way. I experienced far greater accuracy this way, rather than to finish stirring and throw after.

Target Challenges: Don't underestimate the importance of the green statues! At the end, you will get points for each statue left, and increased by your current multiplier! If one of the wolves throws a statue, you have to do more than just catch it. Once you're holding the statue, time seems to slow down a bit and you will notice one or more glowing green spots. These are places where you return the statues! Aim for one of the glowing orbs, and it will turn yellow when you are targeting it correctly. Throw it back, and it will be okay. I finished hard once with all statues intact, even though some were thrown at me, and I returned them safely. My multiplier was around 17, so I got something like 17 x 500 points added at the end of the round for EACH of the six statues.

Good advice. Got this as rental (no instructions) and must have missed how to do this minigame when playing if it was explained. When in the noodle game - remembering who showed up when is fine, choosing bowls and throwing am OK with, but the stirring bit I was not aware of. I would take a bowl, wait for the noodles to be stirred, them throw it. So you have to stir the noodles? I assume this prepares them quicker? What motion do you use to stir them. Probably a dumb question, but do you just move your hand around as though stirring?

I also find the lighting affects successful sensor tracking and can be annoying when the weather outside is broken cloud.

To stir the noodles you just move your arms as fast as you can up and down... example: Left arm goes up and at the same time right arm goes down, then reverse it...

if you use quick little movements you'll not get tired as fast and the noodles stir quicker...

But if you play the story this is explained there the first time Po's dad teaches him the family secret for the noodles

I really need help with the Target Practice with the wolfs... I can't get gold on normal and hard... everything else is Gold, just missing these two... :(

Thanks, I think I missed the explanation either popping out of the room or as I had the sound off. I kinda twirled my arms like a boxer and seemed to work fine.

All done now.

Finished the last two achievements today and have a 1000G on the game...

Finally did pass the target practice on the bamboo palace on normal and hard...

I was struggling to do it using the normal way, ie, by doing a "throwing" movement with the right hand, many of the time it wouldn't register the throw, other times it would mess up my aim with the left arm... stil was able to pass the normal level doing it this way with 36000 points...

but was getting nowhere in the Hard level...

the way I did it, and it was on my 1st try, was to keep my right arm down, with the hand near my wait line at the side of the body and I just kept moving my hand (like I was signaling someone to pass by me)... I wasn't worried about keeping the combo, just kept throwing the rocks to the wolves...

This way I was able to keep my aim steady and hardly ever let the wolves throw the red things at me...

Finished the level with an AMAZING 71250 points on my 1st try... when on medium I struggled to get 36000

Will try that :)

I'll get a video up tomorrow as an example if you are still not sure (a vid of gameplay, not me doing the motions)

Thanks - I will try this tomorrow. To be honest, I did the target challenges the opposite way that you did. I pointed my left arm at what I wanted to hit, and spun my right arm CONSTANTLY in a skipping rope movement. I would be throwing constantly and nearly never get multiplier, but I would kill the guys very quickly. (I got to 3x once I think.. lol). The important thing is to catch the statues when they throw it at you, and then place it back on the orbs, but other than that... bash bash bash... I think I ended up with 78k score and WAY TOO MUCH for the gold achievements if that helps.

Instructions don't help.. You were right in renting.

What it "says" is to move your arms up and down like you are milking a cow... Here's the part that explains exactly. (go to 12min 42seconds if it doesn't link properly)

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2-atKOmgqA&t=12m42s]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2-atKOmgqA&t=12m42s[/ame]

I really need help with the Target Practice with the wolfs... I can't get gold on normal and hard... everything else is Gold, just missing these two... :(

I don't mean to brag, but I got gold by 2x the score on this my first time (in freeplay)... I promise I will upload a video showing it tomorrow to help you. My big tip... forget about combo... throw constantly.... when they throw a statue at you, ignore everything else, catch it, place it back in it's spot... then THROW CONSTANTLY. What score are you getting? I got 78k or so.

the way I did it, and it was on my 1st try, was to keep my right arm down, with the hand near my wait line at the side of the body and I just kept moving my hand (like I was signaling someone to pass by me)... I wasn't worried about keeping the combo, just kept throwing the rocks to the wolves...

oh.. nevermind then, but I will get a video up as this seems to be annoying some people.

Great guide

but more help for the noodle challenges is needed.

I cant get them to work at all in terms of getting enough points.

edit

Never mind, as soon as I ask for help, I get them all done quite easily, typical!

They do ruin an otherwise perfectly acceptable easy and fun game.

Thank god for this strategy. I thought I was about to snap trying to figure the Noodle Challenges out. The T-Rex arms do help and I also concur with movement before you finish stirring the noodles, however I flailed my arms, kind of resembling a backstroke for the left and right tables. The table straight ahead is kind of tricky, but within a few tries you can obtain gold on these. There should be a disclaimer for this game, trying to do 1000 in a day or two can cause you to be sore. The targeting challenge in the bamboo forest about killed my shoulder.
