Greatest Ace Combat Ever!!!

Recommended Posts

Even better than 5?. 5 Was top notch with the story, fighter selection and game length. Can't see AH matching any of these. There was 53 flyable aircraft in 5 including variants.

My personal favorite prior to this was 4: AC Distant Thunder, I did enjoy 5 though, and 6 (but not for the Story) there are so many unlockabls and varriants you will be going for ages

That's good to know. I am trying to put together a list of flyables or controlables in another thread.

Do you buy special weapons so that there are more than one for each aircraft like 4, Zero and 6 or is it like 5 where unlocking variants have their own 1 special weapon. Like the F-14A had Sparrows, the B had GBU-24s and the D had the Phoenix. Or in 4 where all those 3 specials could be selected for one F-14 type.

Is there an enemy Ace kill board list like in Zero?

Let me beat the Campaign first mate so I can give you 100% accurate information but so far (I know what you mean like in previous you picked a plane and then a load out) so far in this it gives you plane selections and colours but like say a choice F-15c or F-15d/ F-14 or F-14d regarding what kind of mission but you can apply different load outs for each aircraft

I have to agree 5 and 6 are a masterpice in the air simulation genre with 4 holding the candle as the best story through the flaskbacks IMO. This game has lived up to the name and in some aspects surpassed it. I was hesitant at first as the previous world that had been built up was washed away in favor of a more realistic setting but it has proven worthy of the title Ace Combat.

The DFM system is fun.

One thing I hate is that enemies tend to gang on you and just spam rockets, and with so many rockets just waiting to tear you a new one it's hard to do the counter-manoeuvre.

The story is so-so. I just reached Dubai and I'm not really impressed so far.

All in all, apart from the DFM system I find AC5 to be superior in every way.

To anyone who has the game, whats the multiplayer customisation like?

How much can you customise your jet cosmetically?

How expansive is the skillshot system, do you have ranks that unlock new weapons and abilities as you level up?

I can find info for everything else about this game except the things i just mentioned :(

Anything anyone could elaborate on would be great :)

I got the game now and it´s like Ace Combat on crack. Extremely high speed this time, skillshot system is great and the close combat system is fun. Counter an enemy feels like Top Gun :woop:

I can´t play the MP part till now, because i got no time yesterday, i stay in a lobby for over 10 min, but the host don´t start the game. I check it out today.

Costumisation: Only skins

I hope it´s not too short, i got a bad feeling about this, all other AC games are long games, but this time it feels like i rugh through all the missions...

All i say just look at different gamesites like IGN or Gamespot or any other of those and see how different reviewers rating this game, from totaly bad to totaly awesome. I think its up to everyone himself to judge if they right or wrong. I think most important is if YOU like the game or not. But still i think Ace Combat or better said Namco took this direction to make the game more appealing to gamers but also pissed off alot of old time fans of the franchise to make the game easier and instead focusing of long lasting dogfights and skill to take out an enemy plane, not its more linair and it plays more "on rails" All i know the final verdict coudn,t be more different on this game realy.

In regards to jet skin customisation, how much control/depth is there.

For example would i be able to make a jet that looks like or is similar to say, this ;)

And how does the skillshot system work, does it just let you change your weapons or do you have jet perks like, faster reload, higher resistance to stalling etc?

Being in a squadron myself I was nitpicking the games cut scenes for things that were off and even though I found some the game actually nailed most of it. everything from the Hot fueling to the plane captain coming up and asking if you were good to go, those small things made me appreciate this game more. I also like how they mixed it up with Helos and Bombers and then during the Bombing mission you take over your fighter and help out in the same mission, this game is intense.

I agree that AC5 had a top notch story (although some of the characters did perhaps get just a bit too preachy), but it wasn't perfect.

There was a large selection of aircraft, but no selection of different SP weapons for those aircraft.

So the aircraft you picked was as much down to its SP weapon as it was preference of what jets you like.

Their lack of flexibility somewhat reduced the value of the quantity.

I've just finished it, and I've really enjoyed the game.

One thing I will say about the reviews is that I have doubts how much effort they really put into playing some games.

I've seen it said that the story is "typical cold-war US vs Russians", which is quite funny when you've actually played through it.

I don't see the story in AC:AH as being particularly weak as some have said, its just different.

We don't get briefings and debriefings to each mission, going on about the big picture of the war effort, nor do we have a silent, faceless protagonist.

Its a more personal story, both in terms of knowing the protagonists and the enemies motives.

In that sense, I suppose it actually reminds me a bit of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.

Couldnt agree more, In most of the cases I have not seen any info on the difficulty that they are running it on and IMO that can have a big difference in the speed of the game. On the middle difficulty the game feels challenging and the curve doesnt destroy you. On easy however that may change the overall experience into one of a pushover game without much investment. When people bring up the "US vs RUSS" argument it makes me wonder what in recent history that they envision air combat to be? In the modern era almost all air combat in close air support of ground forces and escort missions of material or aircraft. Now I know I would enjoy it but how would they feel about a game playing out that realisticaly?

As far as difficulty goes or dumbing down goes, I think its safe to say they haven't tried Ace mode yet.

Switching to Ace, which is unlocked upon completing the campaign, switches off the much maligned auto-heal feature.

That's not too bad for the fighter missions, more like classic AC, and you will still be able to take a couple of missile hits before going down.

On the other hand, Spooky becomes a lesson in frustration unless you memorise where every single SAM soldier spawns and taken them out immediately, whilst also ensuring your allies don't take too much damage.

Fortunately, its possible to squeak out an A rank on Elite for that mission.

I both hated it and loved it. The hate side was the lack of ground support missions form an fighter jet not the Apache. AC 4,5 & 6 had lots of these and I liked em.

Loved the AC-130 mission and the B-2 mission was not that bad.

But hated the fact that the game forces you to use the dogfight mode to win. I did attempt to fight the last battle the old way. And no go. He caught on fire and got a smoke trail and 2 sec later it was gone.

I liked the Dog fight mode at first. But after you got close to the end of the game. It was more of a I win method. Sure most of the dog fights did take you low on the ground to show of some side effects and explosions. But half the time you did no damage to em since they wanted to show you something first before you could kill em. That was half the last boss fight. Most of the ammo you use are wasted as they just wanna show you the capital building and some explosions on the bridge first before you do any real damage to him. Not all dog fights are like that. Most are over in 2-3 sec. But after 3 missile hits you just know the game wants to show you something like a falling building or some explosion before you can kill it. So I just follow until the camera shows me something then you can damage it. Its a waste of time and ammo.

AC 5 is still my fav of the lot. And I have em all laying around here some where.

Its an awesome game sure. But imo it just wears the AC name. Lots of nice new stuff like helicopters. And the MP is way more fun then AC 6. But the overall SP was lacking a lot of stuff imo. In AC 5 and 6 it was good fun to use the A-10 in air combat missions due to the cannon. The A-10 can't even enter dog fight mode it seems. And you can't select em in 90% of the missions.

But all in all its a fun game. But not epic awesome or mind blowing.
