NFL Head Coach 09 Road Map to 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg written by Bishop24:

Overview:

Estimated achievement difficulty: 3 out of 10

Offline: 21 (950http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg)

Online: 1 (50http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg)

Approximate amount of time to 1000: 18-20 hours (It’s only this long for the “Goal Oriented” achievement)

Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2

Number of missable achievements: 1 (15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg) You can easily miss the “Goal Oriented” achievement for accomplishing all of your season goals. Look at step 3 for some methods to getting that achievement.

Glitched achievements: None

Introduction:

NFL Head Coach 09 is not your ordinary American Football game. You don’t play in any games, you are the Head Coach of any of the 32 NFL teams. There is a total of 22 achievements in this game worth 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg. Overall the achievements are pretty straight-forward but you might run into a few problems here and there. But don’t worry x360a has you covered and this Road Map will help you get the 100GS as fast as possible.

Step 1:

Before you even play the game from the Main Menu go to “My Coach” > “Playbooks” > “Create a Play”. Now just simply create 25 plays and you’ll have two achievements worth 30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg. After you get those 2 achievement above go and start a new Career. Now once you select on New Career, select on “Select New Coach” on the next screen, that way you can get the 100 wins achievement quicker since you’ll need to win 3 Super Bowls to get an achievement. Now you should be at the beginning of the season. To get one of the easier achievements simply make sure your Apporval Rating is above 90 before you get to Training Camp (you Approval Rating is the big number in the lower right-hand portion of the screen). Now to get 11 more achievements worth 350http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg simply sim your first season making sure you go undefeated and that you win the Super Bowl. If you do both of those things you’ll be 11 achievements richer. Now just make sure the next two seasons you also win the Super Bowl to get two more achievements. You don’t have to go undefeated those next two seasons though. For the one online achievement in this game you’ll probably need a boosting partner since there is no online community for this game. The Achievement Trading Thread for this game can be found HERE.

Step 2:

Now you should have a total of 17 achievements for 780http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg after your third season and you winning three Super Bowls in a row with the same team. You should have gotten the “One for the Mantle” achievement for winning Coach of the Year since you won 3 Super Bowls back-to-back-to-back. You should not be too far from “Welcome to the Club” achievement, which is for winning 100 games with a created coach. Simply resign from your current team after you win 3 Super Bowls and take the job with the best possible team available. Now play the first game so you can get the “I’m the Decider” achievement for getting 100% correct defining moments in a game. All you have to do is get 1 defining moment correct and you will get this achievement at the end of the game. So before you play the game put the Quarter Length at 1 minute and turn the Play Clock OFF. Once in the game, just make your way down the field until you get to about the 3 yard line. Once there get to 4th Down, your coach's face will turn black & white and "Defining Moment" will pop up and ask you if yiou want to kick a Field Goal or go for it on 4th down. Choose kick a Field Goal. Now get to the end of the game and that achievement will unlock. Now just simply simulate every season until you get 100 total wins with your created coach. Make sure every 2 or 3 seasons you switch teams so you’ll have a better overall record every year. After you get that achievement you should now have 19 achievements for 975http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg.

Step 3:

The last two achievements are the only achievements that should give you any trouble. They are the “Goal Oriented” and the “Nerves of Steel” achievement. But have no fear our very own The Pants Party has some very useful tips for you and they should make these two achievements very easy to obtain. First off you should start a whole new career to try and get the "Goal Oriented" achievement. Secondly, you should check out the Achievement Guide which was written by myself Bishop24. That guide can be found HERE. Also check out the extra tips that The Pants Party has written out for these two achievements. That thread can be found HERE. With those tips and the Achievement Guide you should have no problem getting at least 975http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg in this game in only a short period of time.

Conclusion:

There you have it the Road Map to 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg for NFL Head Coach 09. You should now at least have 975http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg in this game with hardly any trouble at all. This game’s achievements are pretty easy and straight forward but with this Road Map within a few hours you should almost, if not all of this games achievements. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I’ll try my best to answer them for you.

Go to:

  • Main Menu
  • Xbox Live
  • Quick Match
  • Ranked Match

Just either get one of your friends to help out or try and get it legit. I must tell you though Online Play is extremely boring in this game, your basically just Supersimming the whole thing, except you pick the plays. But it's an easy 50GS achievement.

The game can be and Unranked game. Just set the Quarters to 1 Minute and play it out.

Also, if you get in an online game and your opponent quits, finish against the CPU for the achievement. Win or lose, it will unlock.

See the "Xs and Os Guy" achievement below.

If you would like to avoid this problem and still get the 10 plays created season goal, just choose to download plays. then pick 10 different plays. They can be ones you've already downloaded before on another season.

Go to:

  • Main Menu
  • My Coach
  • Playbooks
  • Create A Play
  • Doesn't matter what team you pick

After that, no need to edit any of the plays unless you want too. Just keep selecting Create New and once on the screen that says, "Test Play", "Edit Play", etc. Select Keep play and then save the play. Just rinse and repeat 24 more times and the achievement will unlock.

People seem to be having a little bit of trouble with this achievement. What you want to do is make sure you draft a player with a high potential rating, which would pretty much mean he needs to be a Top 10 Draftee. Now you can sim and get this achievement, but you might want to actually get this one by doing the Practices during Training Camp.

Now during Training Camp, stay on the Main Clipboard and "Gameplan" should show up. After selecting Gameplan, select Train Rookie which will make his potential go up some. You can do this every day during Training Camp or you can sim and hopefully you get the achievement like I did.

Whenever you do something good such as sign free agents, release players, win games by large amounts, your media approval rating level will go up. The 1st season is easy to sim especially if you're using the Colts or Patriots. Just make sure you win at least 12 of the games and win the Super Bowl and you should easily get this achievement. Now you don't have to win the Super Bowl, but it will help in getting this achievement.

I got all of these approval rating level achievements by simming my 1st season with the New York Giants. So you can sim for this achievement and probably get all of them after the 1st season.

Your players approval rating level will go up by adding good teammates, winning games, re-signing them if they're contract is about to expire, trade them if they ask to be traded, pretty much do whatever the players want and you'll get the achievement after the season is over. Also, winning at least 12 games and winning the Super Bowl will help with getting this achievement.

You can check your Current Season Goals, Failed Season Goals, and Successful Season Goals by going to "Team" on the Career Mode Menu and going down to Season Goals.

Here is a link to a Goal Oriented Guide made by Sge77i:

Note: Make sure you do not deviate from his guide, especially for draft picks. I made a different draft selection than him and could never get my goals to match. Once I finally realized that, everything matched up and I got it on my first try. Also, when you get to the preseason goals of training three players, make sure they are all defensive players or it will be impossible to train them all at the same time. I'll tell you what I did, which is what I think is the easiest way. I set the Quarters to 1 Minute and put all of my sliders on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams to 100 and the CPU's sliders on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams to 0. Although some people said the sliders don't really affect anything.

Once in the game, I just made my way down the field until I got to about the 3 yard line. Once I got to 4th Down, my coach's face turned black & white and "Defining Moment" popped up and asked me if I wanted to kick a Field Goal or go for it on 4th down. I chose kick a Field Goal, and my Kicker made the Field Goal. Once the game was over, the achievement unlocked. If I would have went for it on 4th down and not made it, I would not have gotten the achievement as I would have gotten the Defining Moment wrong.

You'll fan approval rating level will go up also for signing key free agents, winning games, having a good record during the season. Just as above, make sure you win at least 12 games and win the Super Bowl and you should also easily get this achievement.

Play as the Colts or the Patriots, the 1st season is the easiest to sim. But you'll more than likely need to sim game by game. Just make sure you win all 16 Regular Season games and that you win the 3 playoff games including the Super Bowl game. If you don't win a game, just quit out of the Career Mode and Load it back up. You will also get the "You Arrived" achievement as well as this one.

In the lower right hand corner will be a big number with the word Approval under it. That is your overall Approval Rating, you can get this achievement along with the "Best of All Time" & "You Arrived" achievement as going undefeated and winning the Super Bowl will get your approval rating over 85 with out a doubt.

You will get this achievement while getting the "Best of All Time" achievement.

Just make sure you at least make the playoffs, you will either play 3 or 4 playoff games(depending on how many games you win in the Regular Season.) Just sim or play and make sure you win the playoff games. Once to the Super Bowl game, also either play it or sim it. Once you win the Super Bowl game, the achievement will unlock.

Going undefeated and winning the Super Bowl will help massively in getting this achievement.

Try and pick a team that didn't do good last season, like the Jets or the Dolphins and make sure you make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl, you don't have to go undefeated. Since the Jets and the Dolphins did so bad last season and now you just made the playoffs and won the Super Bowl, you should easily get the achievement by improving your record so much and by winning the Super Bowl.

The achievement will unlock after the Regular Season, right before the Playoffs begin.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/650/+tJglw==.jpgWelcome to the Club 125 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpgWin 100 games with a created coach

To create a coach go to:

  • Main Menu
  • Career Mode
  • New Career
  • Choose Select New Coach

Then just name your coach, set his appearance, personality, and edit his skills. After you do all of that, you have created a coach, I would say choose a good team such as the Colts, Patriots, Chargers, Cowboys, etc. As that will help you get more wins.

I didn't do this but you should start your 1st career with a created coach as going for the undefeated season achievement and by getting the 1, 2, and 3 Super Bowl achievements, as those will also massively help you towards getting this achievement.

I would suggest switching teams often. What I did was went 19-0 the first two seasons and then by the third seasons, I had no money left so I only had about 28 guys on the roster. But if you choose to play as a new team, then they will have more money and you will be able to sign more guys. And every win counts so you don't have to worry about going 16-0 and winning the Super Bowl every year, if you get an above .500 record every year then you will get the achievement pretty fast. All regular season and post season wins count for this achievement but pre-season wins do not count.

Just make sure win enough games to where you make the playoffs( 10 or more wins would pretty much guarantee you a playoff spot.) You will either play 3 or 4 playoff games(depending on how many games you win in the Regular Season and your seed in the Playoffs.) Just sim or play and make sure you win the playoff games. Once to the Super Bowl game, also either play it or sim it. Once you win the Super Bowl game, the achievement will unlock.

Now the 3rd season is when it gets hard to win games by simming.

Note: If you find yourself unable to sim and win games during this third season, check your Depth Chart under the Rosters tab. Check each position (hold the right trigger to change positions) and see if the correct type of player is playing each position. Chances are, your team did not sign enough players to fill every position. When I was going for it, I had none of the following positions: FB, RG, LT, LOLB, P. Your team will clearly suck if you have other positions filling in for each other. Figure out what you're missing and then go into the Free Agents selection under the Rosters tab. Just grab the best one available at each position. This will improve your team immensely, and the players are pretty cheap (600k-2m tops).(Credit goes to The Pants Party)

Secret Achievements:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/650/s2.jpgNerves of Steel 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpgSuccessful Defining Moments 20+

(All of the below information is from The Pants Party)

Start a new carrer with the Patriots or Colts, just so everything is in the same save file.

The only way I've found to get a guaranteed defining moment is this:

Get to the 44, 45 or 46-yard line of your opponent with only 1-4 seconds left on the clock in the first half. Spike the ball until it is 4th down. The defining moment will come up and you should choose "Go for it - try to get 6 before the half" - this is ALWAYS the correct choice. I did this exactly 21 times and got the achievement. I have tried from the 43 and the 47-yard line and those both do not work, so it can only be on the 44-46. I have also tried with more than 4 seconds on the clock and that does not work, so make sure it is 4 or under.

Now, to setup this situation, play on 1 Minute quarters. Also, turn the play clock OFF. If you win the coinflip, choose to receive. If you don't, choose the defensive play Field Goal Block (under the Special Teams formation) and they should pass the ball and score. Once on offense, use the play QB Sneak (located under the Goal Line formation) which should get you a few yards every try and a first down eventually (you may actually get a bonus defining moment if you get to 4th down and short, you can choose to go for it and this will also count for the achievement). Keep at that until you get to the target area. If you do this inside the 1st quarter, you will have to run another play to get the clock moving again in the 2nd, so leave yourself a bit short before the 2nd quarter starts. Once you are at either their 44, 45 or 46-yard line, go into the play call screen. The game clock will keep moving and since the play clock is off the time won't stop. When it hits about 3 seconds, call a time out by hitting the Back button inside the play calling screen. Now you want to choose the play QB Spike (under the Special Teams formation) until it gets to 4th down. Once you get to 4th down with less than 4 seconds on the clock in the 2nd quarter the defining moment will always come up, and the answer is always the same.

Note: If you overshoot the target area (by 4 yards or less), you can choose the play QB Kneel (under the Special Teams formation) and you will lose 2 yards to push yourself back. This also loses a down though (and the clock will keep moving), so make sure you don't kneel on 4th on accident or let time run out. Call a timeout again if you need to use this play more than once. If you overshoot it more than 4 yards, just quit the game and retry. You will be quitting and retrying a bit, but this is the easiest method.

Note 2: It may be better to lose the game once you successfully do the defining moment so your approval goes back down. That way, your approval will more easily go up after the next defining moment.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/650/s2.jpgA Cut Above 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpgGet the highest overall approval Rating in the league, after one season

When going for the "Best of All Time" achievement and the 1, 2, and 3 Super Bowl achievements you should easily get this achievement.

You can not tie with a team, so lets say you have a 99 approval rating but didn't get the achievement, well that means another team also has a 99 approval rating.

One more thing, you don't get this achievement by having the highest overall approval rating after one season. As soon as you have the highest overall approval rating during the season, whether it be in Week 3 or Week 16, you can get this achievement during the regular season.

Does the cut above achievement have to be in any certain year? Just hell the colts start at 99 and i didnt see anyone start that high and they are constantly 99 thru the year (1st year) and i can't ever get the achievement.

You'll have to wait til at least a few weeks into the season, you won't get it right when you start Career.

My question is still is it all season goals including the off- and pre-season, or just the regular season? 'Cause I'm sick of this 85+ potential 3rd rounder.

It's all of your season goals, from pre-season to the off-season. If you ask me the achievement should be worth way more than just 15GS.

Yea i know but ive went thru the whole season with a 99 and i know the pats start at 96, and i even beat the pats which should lower there approval correct? Done this atleast 3x and i end the season at a 98 or 97 due to not completing all the goals and i cant ever get it, right after i win the superbowl im always a 99. Just right behind like on 2-10 i lose a point or 2 due to the season goals being failed.

Yea you should have already gotten it. But I think some of these games achievements are a little glitchy. All I can say is start a new career or just keep playing that one and you'll eventually get the achievement.

Oh and the guide is now updated.

I did not try it yet but does anyone know if it is possible to upload madden rosters onto this game. That would allow you to create a superteam in madden and then upload them to this game, while waving all the good players for a team and making them sign the bums, which would then allow you to go towards the 100 wins easier. Just one idea.

Another thing I was wondering is how the hell can you resign players? do you just wait for it to come up under the clipboard or can you do it another way?

For the cut above achievement---how can you check other teams rankings?

I think you can upload plays from Head Coach to Madden but I don't think you can upload anything from Madden to Head Coach.

Well you can wait til it comes up on the clipboard, which is what I did or you can re-sign them in the regular season.

I have not found out where to check other teams rankings, but I'm sure it's somewhere in the game.

Another idea for the goal oriented achievement--cut all the players with one year remaining on their contract before you go into start a new career, that would mean that you would eliminate any of the re-sign player goals that come up during a season. Pick a bad team that doesnt have too many high hopes.

In addition dont be afraid to trade good player away for like a draft pick in order to help you draft a better potential guy. Im going to try that after I get the super bowl wins achievement.

This game is really pretty boring though with the sim-quit-reload-resim-requit-reload until you win.

You can NOT resign anyone unless they want to resign with you...it pops up on the clipboard. Its also a bug that you have to have a ton of cap room to even try to resign someone for some reason. I had 5M free in cap space, yet it always said I could NOT renegotiate with anyone because of cap space. This game needs major work.

Just thought I'd shed some light on some things...In your career it is possible to create plays without creating the injury bug, you just have to do it in game (highlight a play and press Y or Triangle), Andre Woodson, the QB from Kentucky has a 90+ Potential and will be available in the 3rd round, so you can draft him to get the Gold Miner achievement and the sleeper goal, if one of your season goals is to add 10 new plays, you can download the same play 10 times off of EA Sports Gamernet to complete the goal, and then just delete them all when the goal is unlocked, and for the I'm the decider achievement, you don't have to choose the option that will raise your approval, but whatever you pick has to turn out as a correct decision, for example, when I got it I had two in a game. The first was wether or not to go for it on 4th and goal. I went for it and scored. The second was late in the game, under 2 minutes, and it asked if I wanted to go for it or punt. I punted and stopped their offense, and unlocked the achievement. And if you get in an online game and your opponnent quits, finish against the CPU for the achievement. Win or lose, it will unlock.

If you could update the guide with some of this it would probably help out a lot of people, especially the Andre Woodson thing.

Will update OSUFan. But anybody in the Top 10 of the Draft will do, it doesn't have to be Andre Woodson. But I will add some of that to the guide.

Ok need a little help on the season goals...how do u train an OL guy to get his knowledge up? I train pass and run and I can not get it past 10% and he needs usually 30%-47%. Its the only goal I can not get completed.

When "Gameplan" comes up on the Clipboard, select the OL guy you want to train and that will get it to go up.

OK I see now...they change it up. You can train certain positions on certain days and crap...still gonna be tough to get all season goals...

EDIT - I did 3 quick careers and failed a goal in all three before game #1 of regular season. I always get a train an OL guy and I can not get him over 10% ever. Also on these three I once saw in TRAIN PLAYER a way to train someone other than a rookie.

What am I doing wrong????? How do you train a PERSON NOT A ROOKIE?
