Introduction

Gears of War Judgement is a prequel and you play multiple characters throughout the campaign. The campaign is very short, and is completed in sections within chapters. This gives a very quick feel to the game because you only fight a battle or two before the next section. There are Declassified Missions within almost every section and a collectible as well within each. You cannot start the game on Insane Mode (which is an achievement). You have to first beat the game on any difficulty. You do have to beat the game on Co-Op Mode, which is suggested to play on Insane Mode to make it a little bit easier. The only grinding achievement will be to gain level 50 3 times and re-up each time you get there. There is also the War Supporter based achievement where you must play in several events. This means you will have to check in every once in a while to look for events that are new so you can gain the achievement. As usual, the game has an extreme amount of in game tracking. This includes achievement stat tracking which is very helpful to keep you in line and not waste time.

Step 1: Campaign: Casual

Go ahead and just complete the game on Casual Mode, looking for all collectibles. You can play it alone or with others, but it's a pretty short campaign either way. You have to play it on this mode to unlock Insane Difficulty, which is locked initially. After the campaign, you will then play the Aftermath campaign which is more of the Gears 1-3 style. There are more checkpoints. You do have to collect COG Tags in Aftermath, but you difficulty does not matter. There is also no Declassified Missions in Aftermath.

Step 2: Campaign: Insane on Co-Op

This is going to be the hardest part. You need to get all stars on Insane Mode as well as complete all Declassified Missions (it helps you get stars too). Both you are your Co-Op partner/s will have to have completed the game to be able to play together. Luckily, the game is broken down into sections so there is a good amount of checkpoints. You can view your player stats for campaign in the stats & awards section from the main menu. Scroll down Campaign and search through the pages. You can see what missions you play and what starts you have on them. You can also view from chapter select which stars you have. The best set up would be to have 2 AI along with you and just one other player. This is because if any players die, the missions restarts. If AI dies, they only get downed. They can take care of themselves for the most part, so it's a good idea to take the game slow.

Step 3: Replaying Sections

If you've missed anything, you can check your stats and awards screen to figure out what you didn't achieve. From there, replay the various sections to gain what you don't have. This will be where you wrap things up to complete all Campaign related achievements.

Step 4: Multiplayer/Private Matches

You need to level up to 50, Re-up, level up to 50, Re-up again, then do it once more. This requires a lot of experience. You can gain experience through campaign, but you will gain a lot more playing multiplayer. You can do it in private matches, making it a lot easier. You will need to play all modes on all maps, and win 10 of a few game modes. You can do it all randomly or in private matches where you have more control over what's being played. Luckily, there is no Seriously 3.0 type achievement like from the previous Gears of War 3. You just have to get 1 Onyx medal and the War Supported Onyx Medal (which you can combine as both).

Conclusion:

Seriously went from a grindfest to just being rather difficult. The multiplayer is very casual and medals/ribbons don't matter as much as they used to. There are also a lot fewer of them. A lot of the achievements end up being related to one another, so there's not a lot to think about.

3 STAR GLITCH ON INSANE WITH CO OP

Have one player on Insane difficulty and the other on casual. The casual does all of the work. At the end of the level, have the casual player quit out. Now finish the level. When the stat screen comes up with the starts, invite the player in. As long as you haven't hit continue, they will get credit as well as you for 3 stars on insane. This is the easy way out and I highly suggest it over doing it solo.

Completed all Campaign Chapters on Insane difficulty

This is the hardest difficulty in the game. You must first complete the game once on any difficulty before you can play this. If you are trying to play Co-Op, the other person also must have beaten the game to be able to play on this difficulty (unlike previous installments). It may be best to tackle this with multiple people in your game. You will need to do the Declassified Missions on insane as well, making this even harder. You also must 3 star each mission on this difficulty. Getting 3 stars is helped a lot by doing the Declassified Missions. Therefore, you should be accepting all Declassified Missions and attempting to get 3 Stars on every section while on Insane. Sometimes games aren't that much more difficult on harder settings, but this is one of the rare that actually mean it.

A section in the game is not a whole chapter. Just play any of them with 3 other people on any difficulty. You can invite people or play with random people in public matchups. If you join in the middle of an area, it will not count. You will have to continue playing the next section as well.

There are 48 COG Tags in the campaign. Every section contains a COG Tag. Please reference the guide below which outlines where all of them are. There are 42 in Judgement and 6 in Aftermath. Once you have found them, they vanish from the game and you will never see them again.

Earned 3 unique Ribbons in any section

Sections in the game are what break up the chapters. They usually consist of fighting off enemies as you complete an objective, or defending a position. There are many ribbons in this game, but only certain ones can be earned within the campaign for this achievement. Some of the easier ones to think about and go for are as follows:

  • Hat Trick - Score 3 headshots in a row without dying
  • Clusterluck - Killed multiple enemies with one grenade
  • Lumberjack - Chainsawed 3 enemies in a row
  • Boombardier - Killed multiple enemies with a single Boomshot
  • Headless Evadesman - Killed evading enemy with headshot
  • Charge! - Retro Charged 3 enemies in a row
  • Once More Unto The Breech - 5 kills in a row with Breechshot
  • Plug That Hole - Closed E-Hole with explosives
  • Flamebroiled - Killed 3 enemies in a row with Scorcher

To equip a medal, from the main menu go into Stats & Awards. Press :rbbut: to get to the Medals section. If you signed up for the VIP membership (the season pass), then you can instantly get this achievement without having to earn any medals. If you don't, just play an OverRun match to unlock a medal. Now press :abut: on the medal that's unlocked.

Earned at least one Onyx medal

There are a lot of medals you earn in the game for doing various things such as amount of kills, number of matches played, etc. You can find these in the Medals section of Stats and Awards. Most of the medals have various ranks to earn. They are shown below on a list with stars. Onyx is for completing the 4 star section. You only unlock it by finishing the previous ones. You need to earn the War Supporter Onyx medal for a different achievement, so you will unlock this while going for that if nothing else.

Survivalist: Besides playing in the events, this is the medal most people will get to Onyx first. It requires you to complete 40 sections in the campaign without reloading form a checkpoint. This means you can be downed, but you can "retry" that section. This should come with natural progression while playing on Casual. If not, you may replay a section you felt was very quick or easy (like the first one in the first chapter).

Earned the Onyx "War Supporter" medal

War Supporter is a medal that requires you to play in Gears events. Go into the Versus menu and you will see Special Event on the list. You must play these until you unlock the medal. They normally change events every week.

Completed all Declassified Missions on Insane difficulty

There are a total of 42 missions spanning across all chapters. This has to be done on Insanity, which is not unlocked until you have completed the campaign at least once. You will find a red skull on the wall that is glowing. Go up to it to get the mission. You can accept or decline it. They do help get you more stars easier as well. Check out the guide below to find them all if for some reason you can't spot one (they are all mostly very obvious and at the start of the sections).

You can check which ones you have completed in the Stats & Awards section under campaign. Review pages 41-46.

Achieved level 50 a third time and chose to re-up for another tour

Can be obtained in Private Matches (versus bots included). Campaign XP counts too.

You will have to gain 150 total levels and re-up 3 times in order to gain this. Experience to level up is gained through pretty much all game modes. As you progress you do also get Reward Boxes that give you XP sometimes. The standard is 200xp which is nothing great as far as a reward goes. There are special times when you can get more experience when you play. This would include special events, promotional offerings, and Micro Transactions. You may purchase Double XP for a certain amount of matches which you can check in your stats screen. You can also purchase the VIP pass which grants you a VIP game mode that allows you to get double XP. Therefore the fastest way to level up, is to spend extra money to get more experience as you play.

Warning:The game counts the tickets even if you join in the middle of a match. That means, if you join and the game has 2 minutes left, you basically get ripped off a ticket. It's best to play with this extra experience in long sessions versus here and there.

Note: VIP seems to stack with Double XP tickets. The math is quite difficult because of the bonuses and all the numbers going around on the screen. I have came up with a 3.73 times experience when stacking both VIP and Double XP tickets. This is not a confirmed amount, but what I came up with after looking at my stats after a game.

Can be obtained in Private Matches (versus bots included)

Go into Versus/Overrun, or into Survival. These can be done on private matches. There are a total of 4 classes you must be. Get one kill with each to gain the achievement. You can get a kill, and then quit if you want (or choose a different class upon death).

Killed with all classes of Locust in Overrun

Can be obtained in Private Matches (versus bots included)

Select the Overrun game type in Versus. You can play this in private matches if you'd like as well. The below list contains all the classes you must get a kill with. This is easiest done in a private match against bots. The farther you go in rounds the more likely you will have enough points to buy the last few characters in Tier 2. If you want to make sure you get this and are in a private match, turn off Mercy Rule to ensure the game will last a long time.

Tier 1

Costs 0 points to play as these locusts.

  • Ticker - Press :rtbut: to melee, or :bbut: to explode
  • Wretch - Press :rtbut: to melee
  • Grenadier - Use any weapons
  • Kantus - Use your pistol

Tier 2

You must earn points to be able to purchase these locusts. You get points automatically (slowly), as well as for damaging things and killing the enemy. Once you choose one of Tier 2 locusts, you will lose that amount of points and have to get them over again to use the same thing or something else.

  • Rager - 1500 Points - Normal, use gun. Press :lbbut: to rage and attack
  • Serapede 2400 Points - Press :rtbut: to melee. Rear up and spit also works
  • Mauler 3500 Points - Melee kill, and can also spin shield to rip apart enemies
  • Corpser 5000 Points - One hit kills with :rtbut: melee every time

Tracking: You can check the Achievements section in Stats & Awards from the main menu to see which ones you have done if you lose track.

You can play with friends to make this easier, or go at it alone. Either way, you may put it on casual if you don't want to spend a lot of time on this. You have an E-Hole Cover that you must protect. You do have bots that help you if you do this by yourself. This is like Overrun and Horde mixed into one. You have 10 waves total and must kill all enemies to proceed to each next wave. There is no time limit in this game mode. The enemies will vary from wave to wave. If the E-Hole gets destroyed twice, you will have to defend the generator. This is extremely well fortified and as long as you repair the barriers a lot, you can survive it even alone with bots. The last wave has an extreme amount of enemies.

Private Game: You can play on casual with up to 4 other people (5 total). This makes it a lot faster if everyone cooperates. If someone joins in the middle of the game, that is fine. It will still count in the end, even if they joined late.

Note about Public Matchmaking: If you do not have your own party, you will be matched up with random people on the hardcore difficulty. It's actually easier to do it by yourself on casual than it is to play with 5 on hardcore.

Tracking: You can check the Achievements section in Stats & Awards from the main menu to see which ones you have done if you lose track.

Won a match on every map in all Versus modes

Can be obtained in Private Matches (versus bots included)

There are 3 Versus Modes

  • Free For All
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination

There are 4 Maps

  • Gondola
  • Rig
  • Library
  • Streets

That means you will have to win a total of 12 matches across all maps/modes. It's easier to play against bots on casual. You can fill the bots and play regular or you can make it uneven teams and dominate the other. For example, Domination you can play 2vs1 to ensure you have the upper hand.

Tracking: You can check the Achievements section in Stats & Awards from the main menu to see which ones you have done if you lose track.

Won 10 matches of Overrun

Can be obtained in Private Matches (versus bots included)

Play the Overrun mode and win 10 times. Make sure you keep Mercy Rules on if you want to play against Bots on Casual Difficulty. Basically In this mode, there are rounds. When you are human, you must defend the E-Hole from being destroyed. As a Locust, you must destroy the E-Hole. There are barriers and you can pick various classes to help destroy or defend. In Mercy Rules, if you beat the time of the other team then you win instantly. This makes the matches much shorter. You will be able to complete them in under 15 minutes.

As Locust: Use the Grenadier, shoot the barriers from the distance and use grenades often to keep the humans away. Once you get close enough, you can sometimes throw a grenade just right to damage the E-Hole. When you find this sweet spot, keep throwing grenades when they refresh. If there are a lot of humans guarding one specific barrier, you can always go the other route and try your luck.

As Humans: Be the Engineer so you can repair the barriers and use the overpowered turrets. You also have a shotgun. You can win each match in under 15 minutes. You really must watch out for the Wretches, as they can jump over barriers and get behind you without realizing it. Make sure you keep going from barrier to barrier on each side to ensure you aren't getting flanked.

Tracking: You can check the Achievements section in Stats & Awards from the main menu to see how many you have won.

Earn 50 Double ribbons with the Booshka on Terminal (Public/Ranked)

Gametype: Overrun or Survival

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: Terminal

Requirements: 50 double kills with the Booshka weapon

You will need to pick the Soldier class. They start with the Booshka weapon (COG/Humans only). You can try to get this as you go or attempt it repeatedly. Fire your weapon a few times into groups of enemies, then throw down the ammo box to gain more ammo. Just continue this practice. You can check your stats and awards screen under achievements for your total amount.

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: Terminal

Requirements: 100 total revives as a medic

The medic has a grenade that can revive your team. Use this often whenever a team mate is downed.

You will need to play in the Overrun mode. As the Locusts, you must earn enough points to become a Corpser. A Corpser costs a total of 5000 points. You need to dig underground and try to emerge underneath two enemies. This should result in instant kills. If you kill two people at once like this, you will get the achievement.

Kill 100 enemies with each Locust

Gametype: Overrun

Type: Any

Map: Any

Requirements: 100 kills with each Locust class across all games

You will have to get 100 kills with each of the 8 Locusts. This will have to be in an Overrun match, as it's the only gametype that supports the Locust rolls. You will have to play quite a bit, as the second tier of Locusts will cost points. Therefore you may only be able to be a couple of them a game. This is best done on private with casual bots.

Note: Your stats carry over from your previous games prior to the DLC coming out. Check the Stats and Awards under Achievements to see how many of each you have.

Gametype: Survival

Type: Standard or Private

Map: Terminal

Requirements: Play on Hardcore and win as all characters being Soldiers

Play Survival on Terminal with Hardcore set. Now have everyone pick Soldiers as their class. You will always have ammo but you won't be able to use turrets, repair, or heal/revive. This makes this mode a bit harder.

Note: Every player must start, and only be the Soldier class for the entire game.

Earn the You’re It ribbon on Boneyard (Public/Ranked)

Gametype: Any

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: Boneyard

Requirements: Stick an enemy with a grenade from over 50 feet away

This is luck based for the most part, unless someone is standing still and not moving (someone who is not actively playing). Also it is hard to judge how far away you are. You will just have to keep throwing grenade from long distances whenever you can.

Play 10 matches total on BloodDrive (Public/Ranked)

Gametype: Any

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: BloodDrive

Requirements: Play 10 total matches on BloodDrive

Just play 10 matches on the BloodDrive map. It doesn't matter if you lose, win, or tie. Joining in the middle of the match still counts.

Place first in Free For All in Boneyard 5 times (Public/Ranked)

Gametype: Free For All

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: Boneyard

Requirements: While playing on Boneyard, you must win first place a total of 5 times.

This will be difficult for many people. The best way to do it will be having a party that you are playing with who lets you get kills on them (meeting at a known spot to get the kills). Another way is to play until it is just you versus bots, which makes it much easier. If you get into a match and only have bots, do not leave and keep winning (if you can).

Win a Team Death Match game with the entire team wearing the Car 13 Armor skin (Public/Ranked)

Gametype: Team Deathmatch

Type: Public or Ranked

Map: Any

Requirements: Win while whole team is wearing Car 13 Armor Skin

This is a skin that comes with the DLC. Go into "Character Setup" and go to the character skins tab. Scroll down until you find it and select it. You need your entire team to also be wearing this, as well as winning on the match. This can be difficult in random games, so you'll need a team of people also going for the achievement.

For the Aftermath Teaser, you can back out as soon as it starts and still unlock the achievement.

Also for Ribbon Master, you can get it in the first section of the game, I'll make a video. The easiest ribbons are:

  • Clusterluck - Killed multiple opponents or enemies with one grenade
  • Lumberjack - Chainsawed 3 opponents or enemies in a row
  • Plug That Hole - Closed an E-Hole with explosives
  • Hat Trick - Scored 3 headshots in a row without dying (Hardest Option)

Also for Ribbon Master, pretty sure you can get it in the first section of the game, although I'll test it out and make a video. The easiest ribbons are:

  • Lumberjack - Chainsawed 3 opponents or enemies in a row
  • Hat Trick - Scored 3 headshots in a row without dying
  • I'm Your Huckleberry - Killed 5 enemies in a row with any type of pistol
  • Plug That Hole - Closed an E-Hole with explosives

I'll add the skipping part to that achievement if people don't want to watch it. For the ribbons, I was working on that too still ;) Those seem easiest.

For insane on co-op, everyone has to have insane unlocked for everyone to play on insane. It is very strange.

Oh that sucks! No more play with a friend on Insane once type deal. Guess we know 2 full playthroughs. Thanks Hunter.

You may want to post which MP achievements can be boosted in private matches for the sake of all the people that didn't read all of the other threads that mention it.

I was literally posting all of the private match labels after testing it, and then you Ninja :p

How can you check for missed declassified missions? I played the entire campaign in co-op with my bro and he got the cheev but I didn't get credit for 2 missions.

From my cog tag and declassified mission guide:

To check declassified mission progress, from the main menu select "Stats & Awards". On the first tab, select "Campaign". Use :rbbut: to scroll to Pages 41-46 where you can see what difficulty you've completed each declassified mission on.

Keep in mind, "-" means that you haven't beat it.

What is the total Xp to earn?

Is there a listing of all the medals etc. ?

Not seeing a list yet, but because earning XP is very random (how you get kills, if it's double xp, etc), you can never really plan anything out except to play it doing as good as you can.

As far as medals go, they are all listed within the game. There are less than Gears 3. A good amount less.

Go into the stats screen and on the first page choose Campaign stats. The declassified mission stats are in there. I found them when I missed 1 out of 42.

Well I mean it's a good thing to post here. I'm just trying to see about creating a spreadsheet to track my progress, similar to what was done for the Gears of 3 Seriously 3.0 Achievement tracker.
