MW2 Special Ops Guide

written by wickeddark (GT: Im Captain Ahab)

As an addition to the achievement guide I've written for the site, I'm including a guide to all the Special Ops missions and how to three-star them. While the first few are easy, the others are near impossible with only a single player, so this guide is written assuming you are playing on Veteran difficulty WITH two players, whether it be online or split screen. Some of the missions actually REQUIRE two people to even play. This guide is written exclusively for xbox360achievements.org, and if you link to it or use any part of it, please give me credit.

I'll start off with some tips for generally playing the missions on Veteran with a friend.

1. ALWAYS use cover. As any other call of duty game, cover is key to avoiding enemy fire and keeping yourself alive. Sprint from cover to cover when you have to move, and never leave yourself unguarded unless it is absolutely necessary.

2. Stay close to your partner. In solo play, once your dead your dead, but in co-op mode you will go into last stand and be able to crawl to safety and get revived. After one minute, the person on the ground will die, failing the mission so keep them close making a quick revive possible.

3. Be patient. This guide isn't here to make the game a walk in the park, it can only advise you on the best strategy to get through the mission. There are no shortcuts, and even with these strategies the missions will be difficult. If you find something that seems to work better than what I've written here, by all means use it and share it with everyone else.

4. Be prepared. At the start of every mission there will be guns and equipment scattered around for you to use. If necessary, I'll tell you which ones worked best for me on my playthroughs and why. If you find something you prefer to what I've got written and it works better for you, then USE IT!

5. Flashbangs are your friends. They have a pretty wide effective radius, and can be "cooked" without actually exploding in your hand, which means readying them for a quick throw into a room is easy. They stun the enemies for a few seconds, making them stumble around and leave whatever cover they were using briefly.

On to the guide....

Alpha Missions

The Pit

This is the exact same as the course from the first level of the game. The only difference is, you MUST shoot all the enemy targets before the next set will pop up. To achieve all three stars, you have to clear the course in under 35 seconds without shooting any of the civilian targets. This can easily be done solo if you prefer, just make a few runs and memorize the course. I found the best way to do this is to use the M9 and the USP pistols. Their iron sights are quick to draw, and you can sprint faster with them than with any other weapons. Instead of reloading, just switch to the next pistol, it saves time.

Sniper Fi

To beat this level on Veteran, you must clear five waves of hostiles as they rush in at you. Its best to stay on the platform you start on and hide behind the boxes there, peeking out to shoot at targets. Grab the claymores on the crate at the start and set them up at the ladder and stairs where you are, just in case any enemies do make it close to you. I would also advise swapping your pistol for the M240 Heartbeat, which there are two of on the crates behind you when you start. While the heartbeat sensor isn't really necessary, the machine gun is nice to use for when enemies get too close to make the sniper rifle effective. At the start of the second wave, you will be granted a Predator drone. Use this as soon as it reloads, as you have infinite. At the start of the waves it is best to take out the vehicles with it first, and once those are gone aim for large groups of infantry.

O Cristo Redentor

On Veteran, this mission requires you to hunt down and kill 50 enemies (a mix of infantry and attack dogs). There will be civilians running throughout the level, and once three are killed you will fail the mission. Behind the frame of the car at the start, there is an AA12 Heartbeat, which will be extremely useful in finding out if enemies are around the corner or not. This will also pick up civilians through, so if you see a large group don't turn the corner shooting, just toss a flashbang and pick off the hostiles. The attack dogs are deadly, killing instantly if you don't snap their necks, which means sticking close to your partner is a must. If you're being mauled the attack dogs can be knifed or shot to prevent near death. Just move through the level slowly, making good use of the buildings and corners for cover and carefully pick off the enemies.

Evasion

This is a stealth mission, that only requires you to make it to the extraction point. The infantry are easily spotted by the flashlights on their guns, which you will probably spot before the soldiers themselves. Some patrols do have attack dogs with them, and using the pistol as a backup is a good choice as you can recover from a melee much quicker, making stabbing the dogs when they run to you easy. Stay close to your partner and take out all enemies in the patrols quickly. Too slow and they will alert the others, sending a wave of guards after you. Also, it seems that wounding an enemy with a shot will also cause him to call an alert, so make sure all your shots hit the head or center mass for a one hit kill. If an alert is called, just back off a ways and snipe them as they come and you should be alright. Once you slide down the slope to the green smoke your finished!

Suspension

This mission is another one that requires you to only get to the extraction point. Right on the ground at the start are piles of weapons, so equip yourself with whatever you'd like, but I'd highly suggest the ACR Grenadier with the ACOG scope along with the M14 sniper. Have each player pick a side of the bridge, and move up until the enemies start to rappel down. Carefully pick them off as they land, then team up and aim for any stragglers that weren't killed right off. There should be three waves of enemies that rappel down before you move up the incline to the next part of the bridge. At the top, there will be a pile of RPGs and a Thumper grenade launcher. One player will need the RPG to take out the attack helicoptor that comes, and the other can swap their sniper rifle for the Thumper if they'd like, which makes taking out the waves of enemies a little bit easier. After grabbing your weapons, both players should jump back down so their stainding on the ramp. This gives the one with the RPG a clear shot at the helicoptor without worrying about enemy fire, and the player without it should peek over the top and pick off the infantry that come. After the helicoptor is down, slowly work your way down the bridge, picking off enemies and using the cars as cover. Be careful if the cars light on fire, they can explode and kill you. Eventually you'll make it to the green smoke and mission success!

Bravo Missions

Overwatch

For this mission, one player will man the guns on the AC-130 gunship, protecting the player that must make it to the extraction point. The AC-130 has three weapons: a very large missile that is good for taking out huge groups, a smaller rapid firing missile that will be your primary weapons, and the minigun which is pretty useless except maybe for taking out enemy transport helicoptors. The player on the ground should keep an assault rifle and a pistol. The pistol is a must because it allows you run faster, and this mission is time limited. Have the gunner clear out all the enemies and while the runner takes cover or lays prone on the ground. Be careful when entering houses, as there are usually enemies that the gunner cant take out. Crouch down and enter rooms carefully, throwing a flashbang if necessary before running in. Make sure the gunner takes out any transport helicoptors before they unload infantry, which will result in a bigger problem for the runner. Just remember to make sure its clear before the runner starts sprinting to the next location and be careful going through houses. Aside from enemies in the house the runner shouldn't try to engage any infantry, just leave it to the gunner.

Body Count

This mission requires you to get 30,000 points worth of kills on the oncoming enemies. You can use whatever weapons you'd like, but anything with a thermal scope is recommended to see through the smoke, and one player should carry an RPG to take out the BTR that comes, which is worth 4000 points. There are 500 point easy kills, which are basically ghetto blasting an enemy from three feet away, and 1000 point solid kills, which is mostly what you'll be scoring. Getting consecutive kills will result in a combo bonus, which really does help out your score. The best strategy for this one is to go to the fenced in area with all the dumpsters, at the opposite end of the building where you start. One player should use the M14 Thermal to pick off enemies through the smoke and in the windows of the opposite resturaunt. The other should worry about periodically checking the doorway into the building to make sure no enemies are coming, and make sure they pick up their partner if they go down. Doin it this way, there are only two entry points into the area, and each one is covered.

Bomb Squad

For this mission, you must defuse all three bombs within the time limit. Right off the start, you will want to switch your dual glocks with either the P90 or the M240, which are much better suited for Veteran than a spray and pray weapon. If you'd like you can also swap your shotgun for the grenade launcher, which will come in handy for taking out groups. Be careful not to shoot any of the civilians though. While there aren't many throughout the level besides the start, killing just one will result in a mission failure. Carefully make your way through the streets and alleys, using buildings for cover. Theres no specific order in which to do the bombs, as long as you defuse all three. Make sure the area is clear of enemies, and have one player keep an eye out for any that may rush in as the other defuses the bombs. Even though there's a time limit, don't rush too much or you'll just end up dead. Be careful and keep each other covered and this mission should be fairly easy.

Race

This one is simply, you just have to make it to the bottom of the hill in 1 minute and 10 seconds on the snowmobile to get the three stars. Follow the trail, dont try to take shortcuts through the trees, and try to avoid jumps that get you airtime as well, as you will slow down on the landing. Shoot enemies if they are in front of you, but for the most part you can ignore them. Only one player has to reach the finish line for both to get the three stars for this.

Big Brother

Like overwatch, one player must make it to the extraction point, and one must gun with the helicoptor. The gunner has a minigun with explosive rounds, and should keep it running at all times. Kill any enemies you see and be careful not to shoot too close to the runner. The runner should make good use of cover, staying behind walls and houses while the gunner does most of the work. Be especially careful when getting into the resturaunt, as there are enemies everywhere. Creep up carefully and use the vehicles for cover, and have the gunner just spray down the roof and windows. Once the runner makes it to the building, he has to get to the roof where the helicoptor will pick him up. Swarms of enemies will run on the roof, which can be taken out pretty easily as they come up. After the helicoptor departs, mission success!

Charlie, Delta, and Echo missions coming soon!

I've done some Charlie missions, so I might as well as contribute. I've done all of my missions alone, so they should be easier with two people.

Charlie:

Hidden:

This mission will come down to trial and error. Start off, switch to pistol and kill the first three people. Switch to your sniper. There are three snipers in this area, one a few meters from the last two Russians, one near a tank in the middle, and a third in the second tank on the left. Kill them all. Now comes the tricky part. There are another four or five snipers, one is behind the tanks from sniper number three(throw a C4), another is near a tree right of the column of tanks, one is near the rock all the way in the back, and the last one is in the left, a couple of meters behind sniper number four. IF you can't see them, jump. You will get shot, but you can survive. It takes two sniper shots to you kill you. After your done, move up. Along the way there will be three Russians, kill them from back to front and move up. There's a sniper on the church's tower, and three Russians in the courtyard. Crawl forward, and snipe the one near the door(he walks), switch to your pistol and kill the two left. Go in the church and climb the ladder. Kill the four-five enemies outside, two standing near the building opposite of the church and two walking. Climb down, and WATCH OUT! There's a shotgun guy near the piano. Go outside and walk towards the objective, there are five or six enemies here. Run back to the building that had the two people talking(opposite of church) plant a claymore, and start sniping. If they find you, run back into the church and keep sniping. After you're done here, move onward and there will be one last obstacle, five or six more snipers. Take your time here, there should be two in front of the wooden building, one on the left of the wooden building between you and the LZ, one on the right side near the radiation sign and a last one right on the LZ. Take it slow here, the snipers might move or there might be another one. To find them, take a couple of steps forward, and jump, run back and snipe them.

Breach and Clear:

This is a hard one, straight from the campaign. To start off, take the M4 and the Saiga(SA12). This is going to be a bit complex, but this is how I did it. Take the M203(Noob Tube) and place the charge on the wall. Once the wall blows up, shoot the tube at the end of the room near the five or six enemies and knife the one in front of you. Take out the Saiga and move to the lockers. Now it gets tricky. Throw flash bangs and rush in and grab a Riot Shield(not sure where exactly, but I found one near a locker, but I might of killed that person and picked it up). To be safe, throw a few grenades before the flash bang and grab the shield. Once you have the shield, back up so the enemies guarding the third room(The two shield guys) move out of there. Once they are out, move in with the shield with your back to the wall and fall into the whole.

It might take a few tries, but it words.

Time Trial:

No trick for this one, just play it on regular or recruit, remember where the flags are at, and do it on Veteran. Just remember not to crash into trees and watch the clock.

Homeland Security:

What you want to do is take the claymore and grab a turret and put it in the gas station looking at the restaurants. Take the second turret and put it a little bit near the restaurant behind the gas station, watching the gas station. Place claymores around the other entrance and grab a M-14 and a Scar or other rifle. Hold out, and kill all the enemies with the M-14's thermal vision. WATCH OUT FOR THE PREDATOR DRONE! The game warns you, and when it does, rush inside a building. For the tank, use RPGs, and for the Chopper grab the LMG and shoot at it.

Snatch and Grab:

From the begining, someone bit up the SCAR with the thermal scope. IF there's a Juggernaut at the spawn, snipe him. After that, the person with Thermal Scope should lead the way, killing the enemies. There isn't a time limit on this mission, so take it slow. Kill all the enemies and head towards the intel. Once you have the intel, go into the plane and snipe everyone. Snipe the Juggernaut(if there is one) and kill the enemies on the bottom of the plane. Once they are all dead, jump down and run to the right. Run up the hill, kill any enemies there and rush to the exit. Credit goes to LukeWnek for showing me how to do this.

Delta:

Wardriving:

This is a hard one, but can be done with two people. Use the Laser designator on the buildings, and wait until all the enemies are dead. Head to the building on the left, and one person enter the window, the other the garage. Pick up the claymores, clear the building and start downloading. Plant Claymores near the entrances, one person in the second floor, the other on the first one. Order the Striker to attack at the main door, and wait until download is complete. Exit through garage. Enter Cross the street, enter the next building's garage. Clear the building, plant some claymores, and start downloading. WATCH THE GARAGE! Enemies will enter through it. Order the striker to attack the main door. For the last place, enter the garage again, and clear the basement. Take the turrets and plant them near doors leading outside(not the garage). Plant the remaining claymores and then start downloading. This is the hardest one, since most enemies will attack you here. Once done, head outside, but be careful! You will need to head to your spawn! Use the striker to clear the whole neighborhood and head back.

Wreckage:

Refer to suspension. Here, all you need to do is destroy every car, including the gas trucks. If you passed suspension, then you should have no problems here. Use the turrets wisely, put them near the cars in order to kill the enemies while you launch M203s with the infinite ammo activated.

Acceptable Losses:

A fun mission, from the begining, stay with your shotgun and pick up a M-14. Move forward into the blizzard and up the snow. Wait for the two guards to walk by and go in. Knife the first guy *achievement unlocked* and shoot the other guy inside. Plant C-4 and run back. Don't worry if you get spotted, run into the blizzard. Run back to your spawn, and jump over the walk. Crouch forward, kill the guy on the left and Ghost should say: Car coming up. Run back, and make a right heading towards the objective. Climb the small hill behind the car and snipe the two enemies near the attack helicopter. Plant C4. Now comes the hard part of the mission, the MIG. After planting the C-4, go back into the snow and move towards the MIG. Watch out for the patrols, when you're clear, snipe the two enemies near the MIG and crawl SLOWLY towards it, sniping only IF necessary(I only sniped one person). Plant C4 and heard towards the extraction with the shotgun in hand. There should be about three or four people in between you and the extraction. IF you get caught in the begining of the mission, just run towards spawn or hide.

Terminal:

A simple, yet hard mission. Pick up a noob tube and head outside. You will be ambushed, kill them all, and have someone pick up the shield. Now stop, you see that little Air port car near the elevator? Stay there, someone head forward and activate the ambush, run back, kill them all. Head up stairs. ONE PERSON SHOULD ALWAYS STAY BEHIND THAT LITTLE CAR! Activate ambush and run back. Kill them all, rinse and repeat. There are a total of 6 ambushes all the mission. The mission ends after you go downstairs past the metal detectors.

Estate:

Try and snipe everyone you can from your starting position. Move out of the sniping house, go around the rocks to the right, but try to sniper as many people as posible. Kill the juggernaut that rushes from the middle, and keep in mind that every ten people or so you kill a Juggernaut will spawn. Go into the house infront of you, clear it, and plant claymores everyone entrance and camp in the second floor. From here, kill/snipe everyone you can(some of the shoot from behind trees, so try and shoot them). Keep in mind that Juggernaut spawns everytime you kill ten or so enemies! When you see a juggernaut, flash him and snipe him with a Barret. When there are less than ten enemies left, they will rush you. Credit goes to LukeWnek for showing me how to do this.

Slow-mo Breach

For this one I recommend you grab a pistol or some gun that you are really accurate with because there are two slow-mo breaches, one in the beginning and one at the very end. (Trust me getting to the end and hitting a red barrel will make you want to shoot yourself because this is straight from the campaign). So first off you and a buddy go to different doors in the beginning of the level (meaning one breaches one door while the other breaches the second door). This first part is purely up to your skill and it is not to difficult because there is about 6~8 guys in there, not to difficult. After that go out side and post up as the fence will open and enemies will begin rushing you. Take your time and kill them all because there is no infinite respawn, so kill them all and move up slowly. After you clear that first area of enemies go around the corner and look up the stairs, 3~4 guys should be running down. Take them out. Near those stairs is a little room, have one person wait in there and stair up looking at those stairs to pick off enemies as they come down, while one person goes up top and spawns in the next batch of enemies and the chopper. After you see the enemies repel in from the left shoot a few and run downstairs and hide in that room with your buddy. As he picks off those guys chasing after you, you will deal with the chopper. Do not panic, you cannot shoot to destroy it, AT-4 rockets are worse then rpgs so dont bother, grab your trusty m203 grenade launcher and move as close as you can to the chopper (after it fires of course) and hit it with the launcher to take it out. Afterwards go up stairs and "mop up" the rest of the enemies. After you go to the next locator enemies will spawn to your right. Take them out, but be paitent they will not keep respawning and after they are gone have one person wait there while the other goes forward around the corner to trigger the next spawn that will come down the flight of stairs. Take them out. Now this is the tricky part. Both of you will now climb the stairs and post up looking up at the top level of the stair. There should be some f2000 (forgot the name) with thermal scopes there so just post up and look up in the stairs to pick off the enemies as they come. After the person staying behind is ready, have one person go upstairs grab a weapon with thermal to trigger the 2nd last scene in the spec ops level which is the smoke grenades. Have him or her go up trigger the spawn and pick off a few as they run to the person up top with the thermal scopped weapon then run downstairs and post up with the other one there but not to close. There will be about 3~5 batches of enemies coming through the smoke you will hear smoke deploy for the next batch. After you count 3 or 4 go up with thermal sites and check out to see if you cleared them all out. Keep note that they will continue to throw smoke even though no enemies are going to come. After you see smoke deploy and no enemies rushing forward have the person with the thermal weapon take out the guys in the windows. After that just split up and go breach again. Remember one person goes to one door and the other person goes to the other door. This is the most difficult breach it is just like the one in the story, shoot the barrel or c4 your screwed so take your time when aiming. Make sure you take out the first guy rushing towards you with a knife because it will happen on both sides and your done! This will take you roughly 15minutes.

This one was posted earlier by a member of the forum with great advice, credits go t0o (sorry forgot your forum name but his gamer tag is Munstir). He deduced that there is an area where the juggernauts will not move to attack you unless you attack them. The area is here.

To get here just as soon as you spawn move up take a right head all the way to the right and head up a bit. Have one person stand behind that desk and I cannot stress this enough DO NOT MOVE. You will have one play who stands at the door and knifes them. Yes knife them, it ll take about 15minutes to kill all 10 of them and again tell the person hiding back there TO NOT MOVE because you keep knifing them until they down you and knife them more when your downed because they will not shoot you for a few seconds so use this to score a few knives. Then just simply crawl back to your partner to revive you. If this happens (which it did to us) where a juggernaut blocks a door, have your partner again NOT MOVE and throw a flash bang it will move them out of the way. First only 1 juggernaut will appear, then 1 more , then 2, then 3 then 3. Slowly but surely you will take them all out.

This one is fairly simple. Have on person grab a .50 cal Barret sniper and stand dirrectly under the stairs and scope up. The next person should grab some sort of LMG and just stand near the top of the flight of stairs. The person with the .50 cal looks up and shoots the juggernauts in the feet/crotch area which will take them out in roughly 3~4 shots. The person with the LMG just needs to watch, and sometimes if it takes to long just to run up and spawn the next juggernaut ( They make a loud and distinctive sound sort of like BONG or something and then just run down ). Here you abuse the juggernauts "I WILL RUSH BECAUSE I GOT A LOT OF ARMOR " ego which was mention by 402 in interviews. So no matter waht as long as you wait down there, they will come and will not shoot down at your. No more then 2 will come at a time so be sure to reload when you have the chance.

Thats it folks last 3 mission which are fairly difficult simplified. If you have any questions message me GT: Thanatopsizing

P.S The guide dark odan wrote about Snatch and Grab and Estate where mine, thought you should know incase he feels he doesnt need to give credits where they're due because I helped him beat those two levels and explained how I did them, so yes I went out of my hand to help him so he would help me with echo...

Oh and to those who still have trouble with war drivingand acceptable losses, I have a simpler method ( atleast I believe it to be ) Message me if you would like it.

Spec Op missions are not really that hard, and even much easier so if you have a friend. Besides, that's the joy of playing with a buddy, to figure it out themselves. And if they really needed help, there's always youtube. There are plenty of video walkthroughs already, which does help out more than written words.

Is it possible to play Co-Operative Special Ops Missions with "Strangers" over XBOX Live?

Other than split screen, I can only see the option to invite someone from my friends list.

COD:WaW had the option to play Co-Operative Levels of the Story Mode and Zombies with "Strangers", so I will be astonished if it's not possible on MW2?

Does anyone know?

Yes, if someone could explain in more detail about the High Explosives one I would be grateful. Also, the links for the pictures in the guide for High Explosives no longer work.

A friend and I are doing this right now and found out that the person behind the desk can prone, after luring a Juggernaut, while your friend gets downed and knifes them to death over and over. While being prone, you can revive your friend over and over when they can't attack anymore and you just repeat that.

lol We only had to look for two, after that, they just all kept coming to us on their own.

I'm not fond of attempting to figure out how to bug enemy AI, so I'll just tell the rest of you dudes who are finding difficulty in cheating at High Explosives how to do it the action oriented way.

Juggernauts are fast and crazy scary, but they are predictable. It's like that opening scene in Zombieland where Columbus runs in circles to get distance between the zombies and his destination. They'll chase straight after you and rarely deviate their path to make a shortcut.

What you've gotta do is play guerrilla war and make use of the shantytown maze. It's explosive hit and run with Russian minotaurs with guns, really. Get their attention and run. Work with your partner to hit them hard with RPG's and move.

Your primary equipment should be the RPG and flashbangs. You do get flashbangs back at the three supply drops so use them whenever you need some breathing room. The thumper does significantly less damage with a slightly higher rate of fire, so you should save it for when you run out of rockets. Knives and last stand pistol fire are desperate moves, but can work (a single knife stab should stun him long enough to get away, like you kicked him in the nuts). C4 doesn't do a lot of damage, but you could probably stand to just use one to stun him on demand. Claymores also don't do a lot of apparent damage but they're nice for their audible warning that you're still being followed.

You don't have to split up to be effective and truthfully, it may be easier to stick together within revive range. If a player goes down too close to the juggernauts you can try either flashing them and picking him up quickly or running a large loop to draw them away from him.

While it's way too hard to do reliably, an RPG headshot will kill a juggernaut.

This strategy makes this mission really fun, instead of lame.
