The Cursed Crusade is a hack and slash set in the time of the Crusades, when religion was best spread by weapons - in the 13th century that is. It is a low-budget game with surprisingly decent presentation, enjoyable combat system and an interesting story told in long cutscenes. The achievement system is pretty simple. During the story you will unlock story-related achievements. Based on your story progression and performance - measured mainly in finding collectibles - you get Victory Points that can be used to raise your character’s statistics and improve your techniques by learning new moves for each weapon/weapon combination. Mastering your weapons and maxing out your character in each statistics will net you most of the game’s achievements. For the remaining few you need to find coffers and crucifixes (they are the game’s collectibles) or perform some relatively easy tasks (such as blocking 30 times).

The Cursed Crusade needs to be played through twice. You can start on the easiest difficulty (Crusader) and then try your luck with the most difficult one (Nightmare).

First Playthrough (any difficulty possible, recommended is Crusader)

During your first playthrough try to get all the collectibles to max out most of the weapon techniques as well as your character's statistics. Most of the story achievements are unlocked by simply playing the game, but there are two missions (Chapter 2 - Mission 4 and Chapter 4 - Mission 2) with specific requirements for the Slow and Steady and the Innocent Blood achievements respectively.

The rank you get for a level is not relevant for any achievements. On most of the levels you also need to purify a given number of souls in the nightmare world. Though there is no achievement for the souls neither, if you complete this task there is an additional Victory Point you get after the level. Since you will have to go through the game once again on Nightmare anyway, you will get plenty of Victory Points without these extra ones as well. Nevertheless, if you want to max out your weapons earlier, keep purifying the souls on each level.

Second Playthrough (Nightmare difficulty)

When you complete the game once, the new difficulty becomes available. Simply choose Continue Game in the main menu and start replaying all levels on Nightmare. You can keep your upgraded stats and weapons for this run. There are also new Victory Points that the game will give you after each level. They will enable you to max out the remaining weapons and statistics.

There are only two missions that can cause you pain, The Path to the Great Palace (Chapter 4 - Mission 4) has an annoying boss fight and Inside the Fortress (Chapter 5 - Mission 1) puts you into small spaces with a lot of enemies. Do not forget, if the current objective is not to kill all enemies (e.g. on Inside the Fortress), you can always avoid fighting and just run. If you skip all movies and keep fighting to the minimum necessary, you can breeze through the game in 5-6 hours.

Mop up

As all chapters can be replayed at any given time. If you still miss something after the second playthrough, restart any of the missions to unlock the remaining achievements.

Though the Cursed Crusade does not have any glitched achievements, several gamers have reported gamebreaking issues that prevent you from loading a new chapter. Mostly the problem comes up in Chapter 4 - Mission 2. It is currently not clear what causes the problem and how to resolve it. A possible solution can be to go online and wait for someone to play the mission together with you. According to some gamers the broken mission have loaded successfully online. As hardly anyone plays the game online, try to use the forums here to find a partner.

The Cursed Crusader 20

Story-based, cannot be missed, it unlocks after you complete the game and the credits start to roll.

The Cursed Templar 40
Clear the game on the "Nightmare" difficulty setting

Once you completed the game once (on any difficulty setting) Nightmare becomes available. Simply choose to replay all missions in each chapter on this new difficulty. As the game does not show which missions were completed on the different difficulties, take notes so that you do not miss any.

That Man's On Fire 10
Acquire the power Purifying Fire!

Story-based, cannot be missed, it unlocks during the first Nightmare mission (Chapter 1 - Mission 6) when you get Purifying Fire (+) to help fighting against Death.

Roar of Flames 10
Acquire the power Roaring Flames!

Story-based, cannot be missed, it unlocks during the second Nightmare mission (Chapter 2 - Mission 9) when you get Roaring Flames (+) to help fighting against Death.

Maelstrom of Fire 30
Acquire the power Fire Maelstrom!

Story-based, cannot be missed, it unlocks during the third Nightmare mission (Chapter 3 - Mission 10) when you get Fire Maelstrom (+) to help fighting against Death.

Slow and Steady 10
Clear "Towards the Peninsula" without losing any of the soldiers pushing the ballista

"Towards the Peninsula" is Mission 4 in Chapter 2. In the beginning after a bit of fighting you will be told to protect the ballista and the two soldiers pushing it. It is easier on the lower difficulties, but if you make sure not to let anyone near the soldiers or when they get attacked you switch to "nightmare mode" for quick kills it should not be too difficult on the higher difficulty levels neither. When one of the soldiers gets killed you will be asked to jump in to push the ballista, that is when you know you failed and have to restart the mission to try again.

Innocent Blood 10
Defend Constantinople's civilans!

In Chapter 4 - Mission 2 you get the task to defend civilians. As you progress on the level you will encounter several enemies attacking civilians. Some of them I managed to save, others got killed, but I still got the achievement.

Unstoppable 10
Perform a 50 hit combo.

See "End of the Chain"

End of the Chain 20
Perform a 100 hit combo.

Your combo meter increases with each consecutive hit. If you get hit by an enemy the counter is reset at once. The good thing is that if too much time passes by between hits the meter will only start to decrease and not reset. Nevertheless, the problem is to get enough enemies together for 100 consecutive hits.

At the end of Chaper 2 - Mission 6 you can use a trick to unlock the combo achievements relatively easy. When you fight the boss in the nightmare world he can be hit, but not hurt. He only takes damage once you purify all the summoned souls and the fight switches back to the real world. What you should do is to clear all but one blue soul while in the nightmare world (preferably one far from the boss), then stun the boss and you can hit him as many times as you want afterwards. Use double swords and the combo , even if the swords break. Thanks to jaycee88 here is a video showing you the fight:

If you decide not to use the trick above, try to get the achievement using a broken sword (they do minimal damage) on a level with a lot of enemies.

Hatchet Man 20
Master the One-Handed Axe!

See "Live by the Sword"

Timber! 20
Master the Two-Handed Axe!

See "Live by the Sword"

Saint Longinus 20
Master the Spear!

See "Live by the Sword"

Mace Effect 20

See "Live by the Sword"

...And My Axe 20
Master the Axe and Shield technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

What's Better Than One Sword? 20
Master the Double Sword technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Unconventional Assault 20
Master the Axe and Mace technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Greek Poetry in Motion 20
Master the Spear and Shield technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Knight in Shining Armor 20
Master the Sword and Shield technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Axes of Evil 20
Master the Double Axe technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Offense ist the Best Defense 20
Master the Sword and Mace technique!

See "Live by the Sword"

Live by the Sword 20
Master the One-Handed Sword!

All weapon based achievements can be unlocked in a similar way. First of all, you need to pick up the respective weapon (in case of dual wield both of them, e.g. a shield and a longsword) to learn the ability to wield and use them. The Victory Points you get for your performance after finishing a level can be distributed among your weapons' techniques. Each new attack costs one Victory Point, there are between 6-12 different types of attack per weapon.

Master of War 40
Master all the martial techniques!

Once you have mastered all weapons and weapon combinations, the achievement unlocks. (detailed list to be enhanced)

Strong as a Spanish Cow 40
Enhance you character's Strength to its maximum!

See "One-Man Army"

Playing the Tortuga 40
Enhance you character's Armor Mastery to its maximum!

See "One-Man Army"

Cursed and Loving It 40
Enhance you character's Templar's Curse to its maximum!

See "One-Man Army"

Weapons of Mass Purification 40
Enhance you character's Weapons Mastery to its maximum!

See "One-Man Army"

Was That Supposed to Hurt? 40
Enhance you character's Constitution to its maximum!

See "One-Man Army"

One-Man Army 40
Enhance all of your character's statistics to their maximum!

From the weapon upgrade screen press LB to come to the menu where your character's statistics can be upgraded (Strength, Armor, Weapon, Constitution and Templar's Curse). Each completed level gives you one Victory Point you can enhance your statistics with. Simply buy all 8 upgrades for the respective skill and press B to go back to the game to unlock their achievements. When all five statistics are maxed out "One-Man Army" unlocks as well.

This achievement can only be obtained during your second playthrough on Nightmare. Replaying the same level on the other difficulties will not give you additional Victory Points to distribute, you must play on Nightmare.

we are champions kommt nach chapter 1 mission 3
a templar rides into the forest kommt nach chapter 1 mission 5
make the voices stop nach chapter 2 mission 8
purifying fire in chapter 1 mission 6
roar of flames in chapter 2 mission 9
slow and steady is chapter 2 mission 4
