Infinite Undiscovery - Compulsive Guide

Compulsive - 50
Obtain every item.

This is a guide for unlocking the “Compulsive” achievement.

This guide is now complete, I will not be making anymore large updates, but will still add submitted information and fix any mistakes. All submissions will be credited in the “Credits” section. To find specific items in the guide use the CTRL + F shortcut on your keyboard and type in what you are looking for. I will also make reference to items found in treasure chests, for a full list of the games treasure chest see the Treasure Chest Guide.

This achievement CANNOT be unlocked on Easy as you do not have access to the Seraphic Gate, which is required for this achievement, it CAN be unlocked on Normal, Hard, and Infinity difficulties.

This must be done in the course of one playthrough as no progress of any kind carries over when starting a new game.

WARNING:
This guide will contain storyline spoilers, I will keep them to a minimum but some will be required to explain sections of the guide.

Links:
Some helpful links.

- The Achievement Guide can be found here (LINK).
- The Treasure Chest Guide can be found here (LINK).
- Interactive checklist can be found here (LINK).

Saving:
I highly recommend making use of most (if not all) of the 20 save slots you have available. Saving on a new slot every time you save, and then looping back to slot 1 once you have filled all other slots. This way you can always load a previous save if you have missed something rather than having to start again.

Quests:
Many of the items you will need to unlock this achievement will be found by accepting quests. It’s worth noting that you do NOT need to complete all of these quests as you only need to have 1 of each item. So if for example the reward for a quest is 1,000 Fol or a Red Berry Potion you can leave the quest unfinished. I will NOT be listing all the quests in this guide, only quests that are required to unlock the “Compulsive” achievement, so any quest listed will have items that are required for the achievement make sure you get those items.

Recommendations:
Following are a few tips that will help you get the “Compulsive” achievement:

- Make absolutely sure that you do NOT miss any of the items marked as missable (Red in the guide).

- Every time you enter a store make sure you buy a minimum of 1 of each item.

- When in stores that sell Materials buy a large amount of them as even if they are easy to find themselves they may be required for forging later in the game, and may be harder to find at that point.

- Make sure to visit every store after every major story event.

- Make sure you get every item marked in blue or red as you follow the guide.

- Use items sparingly, items dropped only by enemies like animal parts in particular.

- Do NOT sell anything, if you need money use some of the quick money tips posted in the guide.

- Do NOT leave quests till later; some quests will only be available at certain times, to be on the safe side complete them as soon as you can.

- Unlocking this achievement will require a great deal of farming, and item crafting. So you will often be required to score Player Advantage to get the required items, as rarer items won't drop without Advantage.

- Make use of the Interactive checklist to mark off items as you find them.

- If after completing the Checklist, the achievement does not unlock make sure to remove all items currently equipped to you characters, this has been reported to unlock the achievement for some.

Missable Items:
Following is a summary of all items that can be permanently missed, there are also items that are best found at certain points but they will NOT be listed here, only items that can be missed completely. Missing any of these items will mean you will not be able to unlock the “Compulsive” achievement.
  • Eagle Emblem Old Coin – For completing the Coin quest that is started in Graad Prison.
  • Emblazoned Sword – This sword is given to you as part of the storyline and is required for the “Hephaestus's Hammer” achievement, which contributes to the "Compulsive" achievement, DO NOT SELL IT.
  • Old Ring – For completing the Old Ring quest in Nolaan.
  • Cell Key - Make sure to get at least one BEFORE leaving Castle Prevant.
  • Concerto Notations – Given to you by Sigmund in Nolaan after completing Castle Prevant.
  • Oversized Wristband – Dropped by the Gigas in the battle before the boss fight in Sapran.
  • Bone Comb – Found on the far west side of Sapran after escorting the villages back.
  • Balsa Wood – Whilst not strictly missable itself Balsa Wood is required for some of the recipes you will need to complete later in the game. Make sure to return to Sapran BEFORE leaving Port Zala for Kolton and buy 99 Balsa Wood to be on the safe side.
  • Zalan Items - All of the items found scattered around Port Zala after cutting the Cerulean Chain can be missed. These items will NOT be avalible in the end game, so make sure to get them all on your first visit.
  • Fructus herb - This material can only be bought in two locations in the game. The first is from the General Store on your first visit to Halgita. The second is from Faina on your second visit to Kolton. Fructus herb is required for several recipes so make sure to pick up a large amount of them before continuing the story.
  • Leif Doll, Faina Doll, and Capell Doll - Complete Faina’s quest in Halgita BEFORE returning to Port Zala.
  • Suite Notations - After returning to Port Zala speak to Aya, BEFORE leaving for Fayel.
  • Instrumental Sword – Found in a chest in Castle Valette, make sure to bring Komachi with you or you will NOT be able to open this chest.
  • Capriccio Notations - In a chest in Castle Valette, in the second room that contains orbs that change from Red - to Blue - to Green. You will need to hit the orbs when they both turn blue.
WARNING: This list may be missing items, and should not be considered a definitive list. It is very likely that the list is complete but make sure to follow the main section of the guide thoroughly.

Key:

Colors that will be used in the guide.
  • Green Text - A common item that can be found easily, and cannot be missed.
  • Blue Text - Required for the achievement but cannot be missed. I still recommend you get these items/quests completed as soon as you can.
  • Red Text - Missable Item, make sure you get this item; if you do miss this item you will NOT be able to unlock the “Compulsive” achievement.

It's needed for a few recipes, I think I needed 5 total. Still better off getting 99

If its not missable its not going to be added, and no mater what you'll need to go through everyones IC lists anyway. When you do it doesn't matter as long as you have the required items.

Edited in a sentance about the reward, and added the tail quest (forgot to do it yesterday ).

Do I have to have all items in my inventory or can I sell some?

Where can I see how many items I have left to 880?

For the first question, you can sell whatever you wish, but remember that sometimes certain items are not avaiable anymore; so the main advice is not to sell anything but items that can always be crafted at the end of the game.
For the second one, well, just start counting, but actually you don't need to say "oh, I collected all [X] items!", even because once sold, they're no longer in the inventory, so the count isn't helpful.

You don't need to have every item in the game in your inventory at the same time, every item just needs to show up in your inventory at least once. Some crafted weapons require other weapons that are only found once and some materials are only available for a certain time, so make sure you know what you're selling is replaceable.

There's no way in game to see your status for Compulsive. You will have to keep track of it yourself, which is why the checklist was developed.

Edit: Yes, you can turn in quest items.

It's interesting how it keeps coming up. It is impossible to have every single item in your inventory, as some unique items are used to make other unique items - like the Emblazoned Sword/Azurael Blade.

The best way to keep count of what you have or haven't got is to keep a list - JukkaKhan's checklist here on the forums works very well, as it auto updates numbers whenever you cross something off.

Huge thanks for this guide and the spreadsheet - just unlocked this last night!

Had a bit of a AARGGH NOOO moment when it didn't pop after I crafted the stupid kismetic tablet which should have been my last item, (NEVER want to see another gold berry in my LIFE!) but I started recrafting stuff in a temper and it popped when I made a Scramasax; must have checked it off by mistake, cue HUGE relief!!

Now I just have filthy rich, and the queen on infinity, wish me luck!

I just started working on this (3 hours of gametime on infinity mode) and I'm already lost :s

What about SARULEUS AMERLISTA??? Supposedly you get it automatically after the battle in the Dragonbone Shrine and it's non-missable. The Saruleus Flute is in my inventory but I can't find the SARULEUS AMERLISTA? Pretty weird huh? I just reached Burgusstadt and wanted to check everything off to check my progress. Is this normal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It didn't pop for me. After freaking out... I downloaded a new sheet... did the forensics to figure out what I had, and had to have made. After making some of the items others forgot about... I started going through and realized that the Feather Wristband isn't used to make anything higher than it... turns out that's what I skipped.

Thanks guys, this guide/checklist was the awesome, and I'd of not done it without it.

The Compulsive achievement was stressful and irritating. It took me forever, but I got it on my first playthrough thanks in part to this guide. It really helped me for the end game materials you need for IC. Pay attention to it and everything else and you'll make it too. Remember to keep multiple saves!!!! This game will punk you if you let it!

Finally got this achievement! This guide was a huge help.

I also had a scare at the end when the I crafted the last item I needed and the achievement did not unlock. I spent about 7 hours re-crafting and re-farming for all the items that I did not currently have in my inventory, and it turned out to be the Beast Fur Greaves that I was missing. I think the problem was that early in the game (before delivering villagers to Sapran) I had crafted all of the best available weapons and armor, including the Beast Fur Garb and Beast Fur Bandana. I couldn't get the Beast Fur Greaves at that point because Malus Wood was not available yet and you need Malus Sandals to craft Beast Fur Greaves. That was weeks ago, though, so I forgot and thought I had crafted the whole Beast Fur set.

Thanks a lot to Demon9Tom and jukkakhan!

Horseshoe and Smiley Charm research

Hi, this is my first post! Firstly thanks for making this guide. I am playing it through on Infinity mode so I can get the silly 1 point achievement.

This is just for anybody who is interested in knowing:
'what is the quicker way to farm - making Horseshoes? or making both Horseshoes and Smiley Charms?'

The quick answer is Horseshoes on their own; however it does depend on the distance between you and the shop. My experiment was by taking Eugene AND Edward outside of Nolaan Village. Both of them are IC level 6 and I began with 99 Sheep Hides, 99 Iron Metal, 99 Granite. A voucher and B voucher obtained.

The Journey from the shopkeeper near the entrance of town and just outside town takes approximately 15 seconds,(this figure includes the time it takes to sit down and get back up again) as does the return journey. You can make 49 of each item.

Results:

When creating BOTH items

Total time: 4.54 (including journey)
Material costs: FOL: 43,610 (refill)
Items sell for: FOL: 200,900
Journey's profit: FOL: 157,290

When creating JUST Horseshoes

Total time: 2.42 (including journey)
Material costs: FOL: 31,850 (refill)
Items sell for: FOL: 127,400
Journey's profit: FOL: 95,550

What I have deduced from these results is that for approximately 1/2 of the time you get approximately 1/3 more FOL. So the difference is around FOL: 25,000 more profitable per journey. This summary is my own estimations.

Same Journeys in a different town:

If you were to attempt this in a bigger town where the nearest shop is further away from the exit of the town, then the separate journey time would change, while the time it takes to make the materials would stay the same and hence change the proportions, making the two journeys a greater fraction apart; which would even out the profits. So if you go a big town like Halgita; then creating both items instead of just the one will pretty much be the same. EITHER WAY it is QUICKER overall to do it from Nolaan; so those of you on a second play-through who feel like a bit of early farming: head on down once you've destroyed the first chain.

Maybe giving Sigmund a Smiley Charm will sort out his TB^^

Finally got this achievement a couple of weeks ago, after about
75 hours on Infinity, and I have to say, I would NEVER have made it without this guide and the Compulsive checklist. I mean, it was still a massive pain in the ass, but I can't even imagine what it would have been like to go at it unassisted. I still have the money cheev left, but I'll do that one later. Once I'm done with that, though, I'll be the third or fourth person in Sweden to 1k this bitch. (and then I can get started on Star Ocean, which is just laying on the shelf, taunting me *gulp*)

You have to post 5 times, in order to have access to some stuff. I guess there has been spam bot problems or something of some sort haha
