Collectibles Guide

Gears of War 2: Propaganda Collectibles Guide

This guide is part of the x360a.org website and should not be used, distributed or copied in any way without written permission.

The other guide was semi helpful but it really needed some work, thanks to Darthlok for putting the effort in. The following guide was been put together to replace the older guide which is an semi official effort on my part for the community. Please leave any feedback, alterations or corrections if you find a mistake.

Achievements:

These achievements are easy enough as there are only 41 items to collect. As long as you follow this guide closely you will find every item with ease. You can keep track of your progress from the War Journal on the main menu. Just take your time and don't progress on an area until you have picked up the collectible you are looking for.

Collector 5
Recover 5 collectibles (any difficulty)

Pack Rat 15
Recover 20 collectibles (any difficulty)

Completionist 30
Recover all 41 collectibles (any difficulty)

ACT 1: Tip of The Spire
(13 Collectibles)

There are no propaganda items to be collected in chapter 4.

Chapter 1: Welcome to Delta (2)
  • The Eagle Newspaper
  • Ambulance Driver's Log
1. Once you start your training you will come to a gate and have to perform a few basic tactics. On the floor in front of the gate you will find a news paper.



2. After you exit the parking garage you will be facing towards a building, run up to the open doorway and look to your left. In front of the desk you will find a scrap of paper on the floor which will be your second collectible.



Chapter 2: Desperation (5)
  • Doctor's Journal
  • Jacinto Medical Center File
  • COG Letterhead
  • COG Proclamation
  • COG Tag, CSID:085144-MJ3V5-PB
1. Shortly after you enter the hospital you will meet up with Tai. Follow him through the hospital until you get to the balcony area. This is where you will blow up the explosive tanks to kill the small group of locust. Head straight forward and follow the path around, this will take you to the left side of the balcony. Look for a room on your left hand side with a sick civilian.



2. Carry on the path you need to go and head downstairs, you can either follow Tai or Dom or take your own path it doesn't matter which. You will come to a room which has a reception/nurses station. You can't miss it as it's in the middle of the room, you will find the collectible on the floor in the middle of the desks.



3. You will soon come to a courtyard which you need to fight your way across. Clean up and head through to the second wing of the building. As soon as you enter turn left and follow the corridor around, look out for a set of double doors which take you into the kitchen. Just to the left of these doors you will see another blue door on the floor. You will find the letterhead on the floor in this small office on your left hand side.



4. Just after the kitchen you will see a cut scene where a helicoper crashes through the celing. Good going until you enter the next big room. As soon as you enter turn right and walk around the balcony. You will find the Proclamation on the floor next to an ammo crate.



5. After you run into Carmine hiding in the doorway you will exit out into battle in the street. As soon as you exit turn right and look behind the pillar attached to the building to find the COG Tag.



Chapter 3: Rolling Thunder (2)
  • Grindlift Notice
  • Munitions Requisition Form
1. As soon as you start the chapter you will find this poster if you turn 180 degrees and look on the drill arm mount.



2. As soon as you stop and jump off "Betty" while Dizzy performs repairs turn to your left and head towards the overturned car.



Chapter 5: Roadblocks (4)
  • Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper
  • Memorial Inscription
  • Truck Driver's Note
  • COG Tag, CSID:595506-GK8C6-9A
1. As soon as you start the chapter kick through the door on the left hand side and jump over the counter, turn to your right and head upstairs, the newspaper is in the middle of the room on the floor.



2. As you press on to kill the tickers you will follow a back alley around a house and cut through a fence. As soon as you go past the sandbags you will see building with a tall tower. Turn right in front of the building and look for a memorial COG cross.



3. Once you have dealt with all the Nemesis head into the gas station and go straight into the backroom. You will find the drivers note on the floor.



4. Follow the tunnel until you get to the blockade of cars. Instead of exiting up the first set of stairs enter a doorway just before the stairs on the left side. This can be easily missed if your not paying attention.

ACT 2: Denizens

Chapter 2: Indigenous Creatures (2)
  • Gear's Journal
  • Kantus Scroll
1. After you fight past a few locust and boombers a little later in the level you will have your first encounter with the rockworm. One you have found out how to get it's attention with the glowing fruit carry on your patch around the tree to the left. Pay attention to the wall on the left hand side where you will see a group of vines which you can cut through with your chainsaw. Cut through the vine to find two dead COGs and a journal between them in front of the grindlift.



2. Carrying on from the first collectible you will find the next one within a small base camp. You will know once you get to the camp as you will see two triokas, a big door and a few tents on top of a hill. Once you get to the top trailer behind the troika nearest the big door. You will find the scroll on the floor next to an ammo crate.



Chapter 3: Disturbing Revelations (1)
  • Locust Emblem
1. As you start the chapter you will have to go up a set of stairs. it's not to far from the start of the chapter, you will find a few Kantus, tickers and locust shooting at you while you try to enter. Once you have killed everything enter the big door in front of you and look just to your right where you will find an ammo box with the emblem in front of a fire torch.



Chapter 4: Sinking Feeling (2)
  • Ilima City Help-Wanted AD
  • COG Tag, CSID:085177-MJ3V5-PB
1. You may run past this one so pay very close attention to your surroundings. Start off down the path until you come to the bloodmounts and a few locust. At this point you should have walked past a van on your left hand side. There will be a pile of rubble on your right hand side. Next to the rubble/destroyed building you should see an upside down car with lampposts in the background and a ledge with an ammo crate.



2. Shortly after you have collected the Help-Wanted AD you will progress down hill towards an ambush in a building. Once you start to pick off the locust you will enter a cut scene with Cole, just after the scene you will see you team in front of you, go just to the left inside the building and you will find a dead pilot with a COG Tag next to him, you should be able to see his corpse from where you are standing to start with.



Chapter 5: Captivity (1)
  • Stranded's Journal
1. Just after you free baird from the holding chamber you will progress forward to an open area with a large cage to the right hand side and other holding chambers in front of you. Look just to the right and you will see a path with a crate at the end. Walk down the pathway and you will find the Journal at the end.



Chapter 6: Intestinal Fortitude (2)
  • Car Gold Magazine
  • COG Tag, CSID:838186-22A03-SF
1. Once the chapter starts look right in front of you just to the left and you should see the magazine shimmering, it's just the to left of the pole that you will need to walk past to progress in the level.



2. You will find this COG Tag next to a fleshy wall near where carmine is killed. It's hard to see and you will also need to run from the mountain of debris rolling towards you at an alarming rate.

ACT 3: Gathering Storm

There are no propaganda items to be collected on chapter 1, chapter 4 or chapter 6.

Chapter 2: Origins (3)
  • Interoffice Memo: Niles Samson
  • Memo
  • New Hope Medical File
1. Once you have destroyed the door and granted yourself access to the facility head up the stairs, as soon as you go through the doorway with the monitors surrounding it enter a doorway to your right. After you have entered look to you right and you will find the memo on the floor between a generator and a desk.



2. Once you have killed all the wretches in the hallway use the mini turrets follow the hallway to a T junction. To your left you will have a mini turret with a dead end, the other way you will see a few doorways and monitors. Goto the right, as soon as you get near the monitors they will start giving information. This is right next to the first doorway on the right, head through the doorway and follow the passage, go through the door into a small office and you will find the memo on the floor.



3. Once you have passed through the courtyard head to the second building. Once you get inside follow the maze of turrets and wretches. At some point on your patch you need to cross through a big open room, there are two turrets on the ceiling and a surgeons table in the midd.e Just to the right you will find a button to turn off the turrets. Go in the door just to the right of the button and you will find the Medical File in the back of the room. If you are unsure if your in the right room a small ambush of wretch burst through the doors and jump over the surgeons table.



Chapter 3: Rude Awakening (2)
  • Doctor's Journal
  • Captivity Marks
1. After dealing with Niles and the sires follow the hallways around. Take out any locust in your patch until you get to a big room. In this room a few locust with a Grinder will burst in thorough the doors and then meet their demise once razor hail breaks the dome glass windows above them. Head straight outside and you will find a small wall in the middle of the path. Dom will point out the train car, before you goto the car look to your right, you will see a small shack building. Your going to need to dart for the building in the razor hail so be careful. You will find the Journal in the back of this building.



2. Proceed forward from the first collectible, you will need to fight past a few locust. once you come to the three garage doors you will find a second train car which you need to get on. Before you get onto the train car turn 180 degree around and look for a sheltered pathway to a small building. Head towards the building and look on the wall on the left hand side as soon as you enter. You will find the Marks near an ammo box.



Chapter 5: Displacement (1)
  • Stranded's Journal
1. Follow the path until you have passed the first guard and encountered the first gunboat. Shortly after this you will see two explosive crate on your left, head up the stairs and follow them to the very top, on your left hand side you will have a gunboat docking. At the top of the stairs you will find the Journal in front of the chair.

ACT 4: Hive

Chapter 1: Priorities (1)

  • Locust Terminal
1. After Marcus decides to let Dom lead you will come to a water pilled pathway. Drain the pathway and continue after killing the locust. You will soon come to a big open area where a spotlight will be pointed at you. You can't miss this area, it has a troika situated in front of a big door. Just to the left of the troika you will find a panel to open the door. Look just to the left of this terminal you will find the second terminal. Be sure to collect this one as it's quite easy to miss.



Chapter 2: Answers (1)
  • Prisoner's Journal
1. Run though all the holding caskets until you come to a patrol. To make this easy just let them pass, you will see a terminal in front of a truck, just to the left of the truck you will see a Journal, off to the left hand side in the screenshot.



Chapter 3: Hornets Nest (2)
  • Locust Jailer Document
  • Human Finger Necklace
1. As soon as you start the chapter you will need to head down a set of stairs. Once at the bottom turn right, follow the hallway and you will come to a giant arch. Look on the floor to find the document.



2. As you progress you will have to fight your way past a few locust, there is a part where you will hear the locust queen over a loud speaker for the first time. Press on until you come to a large battleground, you can't miss this as it involves quite a few locust and a reaver. You will then have to take out two Grinders, after you have done this your path progressing onto another room. Before you enter this room take note that you can miss this if your not fast enough. As soon as you see the stairs you need to roadie run up the first set of stairs and go straight to the right and head for the doorway, it will start to close to be quick. If your not sure which door it's the one with the concrete block outside. The Finger Necklace will be on your right hand side at the back of the room once you are locked in.



Chapter 4: No Turning Back (2)
  • Locust Calendar
  • Locust Defense Plants
1. Once you have completed the cable car part of the chapter you need to keep following your path. You will come to a spiral staircase just after you see the locust finding the lambent. Head to the top of the stairs and you will find the calendar on your left hand side against a wall.



2. Once you have completed the lift section of the chapter where you are split into two teams you will meet up again at the bottom. You will enter a big room where you will find the Locust fighting the Lambent, after you finish them off you need to extend the bridge to get across the room. Cross over the bridge and look straight again just past the switch next to an ammo box.



Chapter 5: The Best Laid Plans (2)
  • Locust Invasion Map
  • Trinity of Worms Artifact
1. Once you have been ambushed head down the right path and fight off the locust. You will soon come to a lift which a Kantus and Royal guard will get off of. Once you have killed them instead of getting on the lift run further down the path to the second doorway on your right. You will find the Map on the steps in front of the close door.



2. After you get off the lift you will have the option to either take the upper path or lower. It doesn't matter which one you take you will end up in the same area in the end. Once your at the end of this room there is only one exit. Before you exit look to your right and you will see a set of stairs. Go up the stairs, follow the walkway and then go down another set. At the bottom you will find the Artifact in front of the doorway.



Chapter 6: Royal Inquisition (1)
  • Locust Tablets
1. Just after Cole has made his announcement over the loud speakers you will enter a huge room with two paths. You will need to split up but before you decide look behind you in a corner to find a the tablets by one of the rear pillars.

ACT 5: Aftermath

Chapter 2: Desperate Stand (2)
  • COG Recon Report
  • COG Tag, CSID:911706-DZUHO-JN
1. After you leave the first area you will find yourself defending a building, goto your right and look around the front of the second balcony. You will find the Report next to an ammo case.



2. After defending the Sat-Comm Array you will be providing support supporting fire for other gears, as soon as you head down the stays goto the right and look for another balcony, there will be a COG stood on the stays, you will find the COG Tag next to an ammo box.



Chapter 3: Free Parking (1)
  • Jacinto Sentinel Newspaper
1. You will need to clear a courtyard full of locust, once you have done this get to the other side and open the gate with Dom. You will then end up on a street with a few locust and destroyed cars. Head the route you would normally but before you leave the parking lot check the right hand side in the corner behind a concrete barrier and by a car within the leaves on the ground.



Chapter 4: Tedious Footing (2)
  • COG Tag, CSID:444526-mI2K9-3B
  • Stradned's Journal
1. Just after you pass the parking garage you will be face with a grinder, reaver and a few locust. Once you have finished with them you will go through a hold in a build with Dom. As soon as you go through the hole look straight to your left at the hole you just came through. You will see another hole with the COG Tag on the floor.



2. You will now need to make your decent into the sinkhole. About half way down you will end up on top of a building with locust using grappling hooks to get up to you. After you have fended off a few the roof will collapse and you will end up at the bottom of the building. Just outside the windows you will see a desk to your right, once you have killed the locust jump through and look behind the desk in the corner.



Congratulations, you have now found all 41 collectibles in Gears of War 2.

Thanks guys, sorry it's a bit late. I didn't have the means to take the screenshots a while back and reading through darthloks effort gave me a bit of a headache while browsing the forums so I decided it was time to make a semi official site guide.

I'm pleased with the guide, this isn't the first one I have done there are others. Any future collectable guides I do will be like this also. This took me about 2 days to make, 1 day of full playing from start to end on the game taking screenshots and writing everything down, then the second day to compile all the data and edit all the screenshots.

I'm semi pleased with the guide, i only know it's worth while when everyone else has had a good look at it and giving me feedback. If anyone spots a mistake please let me know so I can correct it.

Again sorry it's a bit late :P

Received all the propaganda a while ago myself, but this is amazing! I am just finished with your Fallout 3 Alien Recordings guide, which was also awesome. Any chance of Assassin's Creed flags? Joking, you would be there for years.

I managed to collect about 30 flags in assassins creed and then got bored of the game, i couldn't even keep my attention span long enough to even finish the story.

There are plenty of guides that are up to par though as you know . I'm glad this guide is appreciated, i was a little unsure while making it but as this is one of the bigger games we may as well have a guide which matches the quality of the other guides and information.

Question about collectibles - the highest level I have completed the campaign on is hardcore. I don't want to start insane and worry about the collectibles at the same time. I need about 15 more collectibles, can I just load up the checkpoints of the places I need the collectibles on easy and then quit out when I obtain the collectible and reach the next checkpoint?

Yes you can just load up the chapter pick up the collectible and then quit out. This game is quite forgiving and it wont take long for your to jump in and out of the chapters to get them.

Great Work, this has been a major help. I'd only make one change: for the Ilima City Help-Wanted AD collectible, I honestly had no idea where it was. You never actually say where it is, you just point the reader in the direction of it. Other than that, it has been very descriptive and definite for the locations. Thanks
