Introduction:
Shank is an Arcade, 2d side scrolling beat-em up . 175 of the points are easily picked up by simple completing the game on single player and co-op. There are two parts to the story, the single player, and the co-op. Single player has 2 difficulty modes normal and hard, you have to do 2 play throughs as they aren't stackable. It's recommended playing through normal difficulty first, mainly so you can get use to the controls and unlock the weapons, before your hard run. Although if you're confident you can jump in on hard mode although it is quite brutal. You will still need to play through on normal afterwards. The second part of the story is a co-op mode which is a prequel to the main story, the co-op is local co-op only. This said people have completed it on there own.

Step 1: Campaign - Normal Mode
This run should be fairly simple get use to how the game works, get all the weapons(they're not missable). Enjoy your first play through. You will be able to get almost all of the achievements this run. I would suggest using the Chainsaw with early on so you can unlock Grindhouse (15). By the end of this run the only achievements you will have remaining are Mow 'Em Down(15), Backstory(25), Just That Good(25).

If you want to clear up
Mow 'Em Down(15) you can just jump to a level you are happy playing and keep killing people and till the achievement pops, or you could just grind this at the end after your Hard and Co-op playthrough as all your kills accumulate.

Here is a guide to the single player bosses. (Thanks SephVstheWorld)

Step 2: Campaign - Hard Mode
The hard mode on this game will cause you the most problems, out of the 200. This mode will take an element of skill and persistence, the main changes come that instead of reverting to a previous checkpoint when you die you start the level from the beginning, also the enemies deal a lot more damage. If you are struggling on a particular level sometimes its worth making sure you are familiar with it by playing it on normal so you know what is coming. There is a lot of recommendation on what weapons to use I found the Machete and Shotgun combination worked very well. I also switched often to pistol you can shoot enemies off the edge of the screen which can clear the way without the need of risking your health.

Here is guide that covers hard mode. (Thanks Snake Plisskin)

Step 3: Cooperative Campaign
This run is fairly easy with a partner, this can only be done local co-op, it doesn't take very long but even if you can't manage it in one sitting you can just level select where you got up to. Just play the game as you have been playing it but this time with a partner. The game plays exactly the same except if you partner falls you can pick him up with , also it allows you to double jump if you jump into your partner then jump again with the . If you both die you will revert back to the last checkpoint just like if you were playing normal single player.

The only challenging elements of co-op are the bosses and this is is only if you don't know how to beat the bosses, here is a guide.

Conclusion:
Overall the hardest achievement is Just That Good(25), with enough persistence you will be able to achieve this. The rest of the points are fairly easy you should be able to run through your normal and co-op runs without too much trouble. The bosses will die pretty easily once you figure out how to beat them.

Just That Good 25
Complete the single player campaign on Hard mode.

This is the most difficult achievement to obtain you will have to complete every chapter on hard mode. The enemies and bosses have more health and deal a lot more damage. You will also have to restart the chapter if you die as they have removed all checkpoints. Most chapters end before the boss fights but a few of the chapters have mini bosses. Patience is a key to beating this mode, if you try to rush it you will normally lose health or die. The difficulties don't stack so it's recommended to do a normal play through so that you have all the weapons unlocked for your hard run.

This guide by Snake Pliskinn has some very helpful tips.

Revenge Is Sweet 20
Defeat Cesar.

Cesar is the last boss in the game. He has three stages to the fight and is the hardest boss to defeat in the game if you don't know how to beat him. This method works is perfect for beating him on hard. Make sure to put a lot of space between you and Cesar but dodging away from him( and moving ). It's worth getting to the bottles of health. Then just use your pistols, keep spamming them, all Cesar will do is shoot you back, you can block his shots with this will negate all damage. This can be quite tricky but makes the fight a lot easier. In the third stage you will have to take off a little bit of health just dodge him and use combo's and he will soon go down. If you die on any stage on Hard you have to restart the fight.

The Wrong Guy 10
Defeat El Raton

El Raton will be the first boss you come to as you progress the story, you face him on chapter 2. Dodge the bosses attacks using and moving . Eventually he will flash orange this mean he is going to charge, dodge through him and he will run into the wall. Make sure you get to him as quickly as possible then use to grab him and deal big damage. The best strategy is to avoid him through out the fight. If you see an opening you can use your pistols or shanks to hurt him but it's not worth the risk. This strategy will work on normal or hard.

Scars From The Past 15
Defeat Cassandra.

Cassandra is the Fourth boss you will come to in the game, you fight her on chapter 9. She can be tricky especially on Hard difficulty, patience is the key to this fight. Wait for her to jump into the air and as she does dodge underneath her using and moving towards where she was. Then you have a window to hit here with a combo. I used , , , then I would retreat and repeat this until she was dead, I had the machete's equipped. She has a move you can counter using if you can hit this you can deal a lot of damage, but if you miss it this will take a lot of your health.

Father Forgive Me... 20
Defeat The Priest.

The Priest is the sixth boss you will face, you fight him on chapter 16. You can kill him without using the fire on this stage but if you can get him in the fire it will make beating him easier. The easiest way to use the fire is to dodge his slide with your back to the fire, as The Priest slides dodge through him with and moving the , then he will backflip if you then hit him with followed by to shank him he will end up in the fire. This will then allow you to grab him with to deal massive damage. This strategy works on both normal and hard, with the chainsaw equipped.

The Meating 15
Defeat the Butcher.

This is the third boss you will come to as you progress through the story, you face him on chapter 7. To defeat the butcher you need to shoot the hanging pieces of meat, when they are low enough he will eventually swing his chain around which will get caught on the nearest pieces of meat. When it gets caught grab the butcher using , then spam to deal huge damage. Keep repeating this method to beat him. Make sure you dodge his attacks using and moving the . This strategy works on both normal and hard difficulties.

Grindhouse 15
Perform 100 chainsaw kills.

This achievement is straight forward just make sure you get kills with the chainsaw. The chainsaw is one of the interchangeable melee weapons and is used by pressing . It's accumulative across playthroughs but is easily got through on your normal playthrough.

Mow 'Em Down 15
Take out 1000 enemies.

This achievement is just a grind, you probably won't get it on your first playthrough but you will get it across all your playthroughs, if you want to grind it on normal just select a level and kill enemies and they will count towards your overall.

Make A Name For Yourself 10
Take out 100 enemies.

Please see "
Mow 'Em Down".

Just Getting Started 5
Take out 20 enemies.

Please see "Mow 'Em Down".

AND IT CONTINUES 25
Complete the single player campaign on Normal mode.

The single player campaign on normal consists of 20 chapters. The game isn't that difficult on normal and you shouldn't have any troubles except with bosses. Each one normally has a strategy to beat it, once you know it you shouldn't have any problems. Not all the chapters end with a boss fight, you will normally have at least one chapter leading up to them.

BACKSTORY 25
Complete the co-op campaign.

The Co-op campaign consists of 10 chapters. This is only available as local co-op. Just work your way through the campaign with your partner, if either one of you die you can help each other using , if both of you die it reverts you to the last checkpoint like when playing single player on normal. The only parts that will cause you any problems will be the bosses, you can find a guide for boss strategies here.

Thanks for the advice made the changes. I didn't really know how to handle doing hyperlinks on what word to put them on, how to highlight them etc.

Looks good man...Just got this game yesterday and finished it last night...Only came to the forums to see if there was a guide up as i really wanna get a guide done...DAMN YOU!!! lol...Nah but this loooks spot on mate...Only one grammar error i see and that's in your Cesar achievement...

"This method works oh hard very well,"

Should be on hard right?!...

Good job man, Good job...

EDIT - OH, And do you happen to know how to unlock any of the other costumes besides Grindhouse?!....Bleh, guess i could just google it.....I'll stick up the answer here for you when i find it...

EDIT EDIT -

Changing your costume affects not just your character onscreen, but the close-up of Shank’s head in the corner by your health meter. And the costumes are great! Scroll down for details of how to unlock each one.

1. The Original Shank
This one’s easy. Just buy the game and you’ll have Shank in all his original glory.
2. Kung Fu Shank
Give Shank a Bruce Lee makeover by scoring 1000 kills. (Also unlocks the “Mow ‘Em Down” Achievement.)
3. Wildman Shank
It’s called “wildman,” but there’s a striking resemblance to Wolverine. Alas, you’ll have to complete the game on hard to unlock those hairy arms. (Also unlocks the “Just That Hard” Achievement.)
4. Spartan Shank
Spartans never go solo. That’s why you’ll unlock this Gerard-Butler-in-300-esque costume if you complete the co-op backstory mission. (Also unlocks the “Backstory” Achievement.)
5. Red Pajamas Shank
Transform Shank into a red ninja by accomplishing a 150-hit combo. Yes, it’s pretty tricky, but definitely do-able.
6. White Pajamas Shank
Everyone knows that red ninjas are more badass than white ninjas. That’s why you only need to pull off a 100-hit combo to unlock the white pjs.
7. Horror Shank
A.K.A. Grindhouse Shank, the name of the costume may be an ode to the Rodriguez/Tarantino film, but the look is 100% Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th. Appropriately, this look unlocks with 100 chainsaw kills. (Also unlocks the “Grindhouse” Achievement.)
8. ANY-S Shank
We love Robo-Shank. Even more, we love what you have to do to unlock him! Beat the game on any difficulty, then start a new game and enter the Konami Code. In case there are any gamers in the entire world that don’t know what that is… try: Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A
9. Dance Shank
Dance Shank has a kickin’ afro. We like to think this is a nod to an incredible 70s icon… Who’s the cat that won’t cop out when there’s danger all about? SHANK! Just complete the game on normal and this sweet ‘do is all yours. (Also unlocks the “And It Continues” Achievement.)
10. DeathSpank Shank
Share the indie game love! Like ANY-S Shank, you can unlock this sweet DeathSpank Shank by completing the game on any difficulty, then entering the code: Up X Down B Left Y Right A
11. Shank the Gimp
The final costume puts this adorable bear head on tough guy Shank. All you have to do is complete 500 kills. 500 CREATURE kills. 500… rats. Or bats. Thankfully, not cats.

From XBLAfans.com who cite it's original source as xbox360achievements.org... :/

Great looking guide, this game really doesn't look that hard except for the hard difficulty. I plan on getting this game sometime this week while its on DOTW.
