PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS GAME REQUIRES YOU TO DOWNLOAD AMERICAN MCGEE'S ALICE! IF YOU PURCHASED THE GAME NEW, THERE WILL BE A CODE IN THE CASE. IF NOT, YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE IT FROM THE MARKETPLACE!

Introduction:

The second Alice game developed by Spicy Horse and published by EA, welcomes you back to Wonderland where things have changed. There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000. Alice: Madness returns can be completed in only 1 play if you can endure it. There are plenty of collectables to provide insight to the story between American McGee's Alice and Alice: Madness Returns. The Cheshire Cat will always be around to tease you, but will he get the best of you when worlds collide?

Breakdown:
Alice: Madness Returns is a fairly straight forward game, but requires you to go out of your way to find all the collectables. It is suggested you play through the game twice. Once on any difficulty other than Nightmare, and then the second on Nightmare. If you feel up to it, just do the one play.

Playthrough 1: Depending what difficulty you play on you can earn all but 6 achievements out of 50. Also, there will be an achievement to use the Hysteria Ability (gained in Chapter 1) up to 1 time during the entire game! This is the play through you should find all the collectables on, to carry over your data into Nightmare. Follow the collectable guide for more information and a walkthrough of each Chapter.

Playthrough 2: If you didn't do your first play on Nightmare, you need to go to the main menu and change the difficulty to nightmare and play through the game again. It shouldn't be hard since you have leveled up your weapons and collected extra roses.

Clean Up: Any achievements you have not earned yet, simply reload chapters or checkpoints to complete them, finish up and move onto the original Alice game.

American McGee's Alice: If you have the access to this game, you need to play through this game now to earn the remaining 6 achievements. This DLC is required if you want to obtain all achievements.

Conclusion:
Alice: Madness returns and American McGee's Alice are quite fun and captivating. The collectables may be annoying to grab, but they are unfortunately required. If you enjoy the dark and twisted side of the old Disney cartoon Alice in Wonderland, you will enjoy playing Alice: Madness Returns. Congratulations on completing another game!

His left hand will come out, it will perform slamming attacks. Once it has done enough, it will rest on the ground and expose the ruin. Charge in and attack. SPAM DODGE TO MAKE LARGE CIRCLES AROUND THE AREA! It will get tired eventually and rest. Charge in and attack it again. Once enough damage is dealt, the ruin will disappear and the hand will go away.

SECOND PHASE
His right hand will come out now. Dodge its open palmed smashing attacks and swatting attacks until it gets tired and rests. Charge in and introduce it to your knife. After some time it will recover and some more Insidious Ruin will spawn. Again, ignore them unless you have to. The hand will chase you again. SPAM DODGE TO MAKE LARGE CIRCLES AROUND THE AREA! It will get tired and rest again. Move in and take it out. If you deal enough damage to it now, you will not have to deal with the next attacks. If you haven't dealt enough damage, it will recover and summon Menacing Ruin. Dodge the attacks until it needs to rest and finish it off.

CHECKPOINT
If you made it to this checkpoint without damage you can restart it if you get hit in the next phase

THIRD PHASE
Both hands will appear now. They will both try and grab you. Dodge both the hands and then they will grab onto the stone pillars. The Dollmaker will now spit out his tongue for you to attack. Use ranged attacks on it until defeated.

Does anyone know, do you *have* to use Hysteria once for Level-Headed, or can you use it zero times? I didn't trigger it after initially gaining the ability, I just finished the fight normally.

Is there any point in the game where it's required to progress?

i think its almost complete... Just need to find a video guide for a few achievements to clean things up and it should be done with.

My collectable guide is coming along quite nicely as well. ^.^

EDIT: For the Hysteria achievement, i used it only once during my playthrough on HARD and got it after watching the ending cut-scene.

that is most likely the case unless there is a method to circumvent the issue.

I cant think of anything at the moment. Sorry.

If you are signed into XBL you can access the DLC. Therefore, I suggest purchasing the DLC on your sons xbox (the console license) then redownloading it on your xbox (Gamertag license).

Finish the game using Hysteria only once.
Chapter 1: Explore your way through Wonderland until you interact with a door. After watching the cut-scene you will unlock the Hysteria ability. You can only activate it when you are on your last rose of health by pressing the Left Stick. The ability will make you invincible and deal more damage for a short amount of time. Only use the ability once during the game and after you finish you will unlock the achievement.

I can indeed confirm that you are able to get this if you use Hysteria zero times.

For this game if you want to get all the collectibles, after beating the game can you go back to specific chapters and get the ones you missed? Or do you have to play the full chapter and collect all the items over again?

Also for the nightmare difficulty achievement and the achievement where you can only use hysteria once, can you play the individual chapters or do you have to start a new game?

I'm on my first playthrough collecting whatever I see and just generally enjoying the game. But I'd hate to have to start all over again to get the collectibles.

-Does difficulty affect achievements? No

This should be fixed to YES since there there are difficulty achievements
Other than that, great start. Can't wait to play the game

Just a head's up, as far as I know you can complete the original Alice on easy and still get the related achievements. Not sure if people were aware of this and it should make the playthrough easier. If you happen to get stuck it's easy enough to find some very good walkthroughs seeing as the pc version has been out for quite some time (try www.gamefaqs.com)

Also, might not be a bad idea to play the original first, that way you'll be more impressed with the new one

Thanks to the OP for this. Using this and the collectables guide to get that outta the way on my first playthrough on easy. Then doing the Nightmare playthrough. Loving this game! Bringing back a lot of PC/PS1&2 platforming memories =)

1: chapter replay.
2: new game required.

Here's some more costs in teeth for weapon upgrades. I just saw that they are still missing. Awesome guide btw!

Pepper Grinder Lvl 4 - 700
Hobby Horse Lvl 4 - 775
Teapot Cannon Lvl 3 - 600

Edit: You have Level 5, but I got the achv for fully upgrading the Vorpal Blade to Lvl 4. Is this a typo?

Glad I could help. This is a really well put together guide, and not half assed at all. I appreciate that. Again, great guide!
