Introduction:
Welcome to Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Force. This is a port of a Japanese arcade game that came out in 2001 with some upgrades (2-on-2 Battles, Online Play, Mission mode). It is a relatively easy 1000 (1250 with the DLC), and all achievements can be unlocked in a minimum of 6 hours. There are two main modes to play, Arcade and Mission. Some achievements can only be unlocked by playing a specific mode, while others, like “10 Discs” and “10 Crystals,” can be unlocked in either mode.

Note that even though this is a Japanese game, it is region-free, so it will play on all Xboxes, regardless of its region. Also, this game was only released in Japan, so if you want to play it, you’ll have to import it.

It is recommended that you play Mission mode first, as you can use the crystals found to increase your EX Option abilities after each mission. In Arcade mode, while you can still collect crystals, you can’t increase your abilities; you just play straight through, so if you start at none, there’s no way to increase them while playing. But, the EX Options can be used in Arcade mode as well and it makes it so much easier with them turned on.

Basic Controls:
Since the game is in Japanese, you probably won’t understand the Controls screen or the booklet. Here are the basic controls:
- Range weapon
- Melee weapon
- Speed boost (right)
- Speed boost (left)
- Dash to teammate
- Pause game
- Move
(Click) - No Use
- Rotate camera
(Click) - Ally command
- Jump cancel
- Switch targets
- Speed boost (left)
- Jump

Fighting Techniques:
A very good forum site here has a list of techniques for fighting combos and such if you are interested.

Step 1: Mission Mode (Retail Missions)
From the main menu, choose to play “Mission” mode. There are 10 unmissable achievements and 3 where you actually have to do something simple to unlock them. Simply play through the missions and you’ll unlock everything.
  • Unmissable “story-based” achievements are “Start 1st Operation,” “5 missions clear [1st Operation],” “1st Operation Complete,” “Start 2nd Operation,” “5 missions clear [2nd Operation]” and “2nd Operation Complete.”
  • Complete each mission to unlock “VR Beginner,” “VR Hunter,” “VR Collector” and “VR Mania.” These are also unmissable.
  • The last three are “Create AI VR,” “Play with AI VR” and “Train AI VR.” These three are simple enough. Look at the guide to see how to unlock them.

Some things to remember
1) There are between 3 and 6 battles for each mission, and each mission has a certain objective (melee only kills, collect silver discs, collect green gems, etc.). They get increasingly difficult as the Operation goes on. Click here for a list of missions and their objectives.

2) When the mission is over, you have some selections. The first one replays the mission. The second one goes to the Mission Select screen. The third one lets you save your game. The bottom one that starts with the word “Mission” takes you back to the main Mission menu (the one with the Xbox Live choices).

3) On the Mission Select screen before you start each mission, you can press to go to the EX Option screen to increase your life and attack strength. For each crystal you collect, you get one point. Increasing your abilities make the game so much easier.

4) When in a mission and you pause the game, the first choice is to resume the match, the second allows you to customize the controls. The third one exits the match. The default ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ choice is always ‘No,’ so move or to the other selection if you want ‘Yes.’

Step 2: Arcade Mode
From the main menu, choose to play “Arcade” mode. You can choose the difficulty, select how many rounds for each arena, what the time limit is and something else that has an ‘OFF,’ ‘ON’ and ‘ALWAYS’ selection. I kept it ‘OFF.’ You can also turn on EX Options by pressing .
  • All the achievements here are pretty much unmissable, but you have to do specific things to unlock each of them. They are “Defeat VR,” “Winner Ver.01,” “Winner Ver.02,” “Winner Ver.03,” “Rescue Dash” and “Restore VR.” If you follow the guide you should have no problems unlocking them.
  • JAGUARANDI” is unlocked halfway through playing Arcade mode (between mission 5 and 6). “AJIM & GUERLAIN” is unlocked when you complete the last mission (mission 8) of Arcade mode.
  • Simply watch the credits after Arcade mode to get “Jupiter.” They only last a minute or so.

Step 3: Miscellaneous Achievements
  • To get the “M.S.B.S. ver7.7X” achievement, simply boot up the game as the guide says.
  • To get the “Issy/H-AT/R_sgt” achievement, simply choose “Training” from the main menu, choose “Tutorial” and pick “Tutorial 10” in the menu. It is a simple deathmatch-type tutorial. You can win or lose.
  • For the achievement “10 Discs,” there are golden discs scattered throughout both Arcade and Mission modes. I don’t have any information on how they show up for you to collect; they just appear. Maybe it’s due to a hit/move combo or something. Collect 10 of them to unlock this achievement. Likewise, “10 Crystals” can be unlocked by collecting the crystals in either mode, as well. Again, I’m not sure how they appear.

Step 4: Online
You have to play at least 30 matches online to get these six achievements. You don’t have to win them, just play them. Each match takes about two minutes. You can do it legitimately (if you don’t keep getting kicked or can’t find a match) or find boosting partners here.

Note: Each match has to be four players, so if you are boosting, keep that in mind. Technically, you don’t boost Ranked games. Just have your friends search at the same time you do and hopefully you’ll be paired up, but you might not get the non-boosters to cooperate. Each match can take up to 90 seconds. Player matches have to be four players, and are much easier if you have four dedicated boosters. You can set each match to 1 round so each match takes about 15 seconds.

Step 5: DLC
The DLC consists of two more Operations, ten missions each. They are very easy. To download the DLC, you have to either have a Japanese Xbox (NTSC-J) or have made a Japanese account. Click here to see how to make a foreign account (the pictures are a bit out of date with the restructuring of xbox.com).

Then you need to purchase Japanese Microsoft points (they have to be Japanese). Play-Asia.com is a good place to get them, and they email you the code to redeem. You can get 1400 MSP for around $25.00 USD. Apply them to your Japanese account and then purchase the DLC with that account.

Note: You can play the DLC on any profile as long as it is downloaded to your hard drive. It is not profile restricted.

Conclusion:
Congratulations on another 100%. This is a very easy game to maximize your score. The only trouble you might have is getting the online achievements, but with some persistence, you’ll get them.

Total Awards: 10 (more» ...)
Jupiter - 20
Watch the full end roll in Arcade mode.

When Arcade mode is completed (after you complete the mission fighting Ajim & Guerlain), there is a short cutscene then the credits roll. Simply watch these and the achievement will unlock. The credits last only about one minute. Pressing skips it and the achievement won’t unlock.

10 Discs - 30
Find 10 discs in either of Mission or Arcade mode.

While you are playing either mode, golden discs will randomly appear (I don’t know what triggers them). You automatically pick them up. Collect 10 for the achievement to unlock (at the end of the mission). Finding these add AI points for your partner to increase its abilities. 50 AI points is the maximum number one can distribute to a partner VR.

JAGUARANDI - 100
Defeat JAGUARANDI in Arcade mode.

Jaguarandi is the mid-level boss between missions 5 and 6 in Arcade mode. Simply defeat him. I can’t offer any real strategy except keep moving around and avoid his blasts while targeting him. He is a lot easier if you have the EX Options turned on and have your abilities at least on 4 (of 10).

AJIM & GUERLAIN - 100
Defeat AJIM & GUERLAIN in Arcade mode.

Ajim & Guerlain are the last bosses in Arcade mode (after mission 8). Simply defeat them. I can’t offer any real strategy except keep moving around and avoid their blasts while targeting him. They are a lot easier if you have the EX Options turned on and have your abilities at least on 4 (of 10).

5 missions clear [1st Operation] - 20
Complete 5 missions in 1st Operation in Mission mode.

Successfully complete up through the fifth mission of the 1st Operation.

1st Operation Complete - 20
Complete 1st Operation in Mission mode.

Successfully finish all ten missions in the 1st Operation.

10 Crystals - 30

Find 10 Crystals in either of Mission or Arcade mode.

While you are playing either mode, colored crystals will randomly appear (I don’t know what triggers them). You automatically pick them up. Collect 10 for the achievement to unlock (at the end of the mission). Finding these allows you to increase your abilities in the EX Options. You need 20 of them to fully boost your abilities to the max.

Start 1st Operation - 20

Start 1st Operation in Mission mode.

Select “Mission” from the main menu. Select the first choice (the non-Xbox Live one) and press . Choose to start the 1st Operation and the achievement will unlock. If you created your VR partner before you did this, you will also unlock “Play with AI VR.” Click here for a list of missions and their objectives.

Defeat VR - 20
Defeat opponent VR in Arcade mode.

Simply defeat your first opponent in Arcade mode and you are awarded this achievement. You can get this and ” Winner Ver.03” at the same time. If you let time run out and have more health than your opponents, you can get a third achievement, “Winner Ver.02.”

Winner Ver.01 - 50

Win the match with defeating all of the opponent VRs in Arcade mode.

To get this achievement, you have to score a ‘Perfect’ in a match. There are two ways to do this; defeat both opponents (drain both of their health), or defeat Jaguarandi, since that is the only VR on that stage. The latter is the easier way. There is no Arcade stage where you fight just one opponent VR except for Jaguarandi.

M.S.B.S. ver7.7X - 20

Boot up the game.

Start the game, and then press when prompted. It will take you to the storage selection screen. Choose where you want the save games stored. Another pop-up screen comes up (storage device verification). Select the top selection (I would assume that is ‘Yes’) and the achievement is unlocked.

Issy/H-AT/R_sgt - 20
Complete any tutorial in training mode.

At the main menu, choose “Training,” then choose “Tutorial” and choose “Tutorial 10” in the menu. It is a simple deathmatch-type match against two target balls. Whether you win or lose, you are awarded the achievement.

Rescue Dash - 30
Perform rescue dash to share health with buddy VR Arcade mode.

In Arcade mode, when your partner’s health has gone down and you are near each other, simply press and you will dash towards your partner and give him health. If you connect, the achievement will unlock.

Restore VR - 30
Restore corrupted buddy VR in Arcade mode.

If your partner has lost all of its health, a raised colored circle will appear around them. Move towards them and press to give them health. It’s pretty much the same concept as “Rescue Dash” except that your partner has to have lost all of its health. I would assume that if you haven’t gotten the “Rescue Dash” achievement at this time, doing this would unlock both.

Winner Ver.02 - 50
Win the match by time-up in Arcade mode.

If you are winning by the time the match ends (and you haven’t defeated your opponents yet), you win the match by default and the achievement unlocks. Basically let time expire but have more health than your opponents. The default time is 90 seconds.

Winner Ver.03 - 50
Win the match with defeating the leader VR in Arcade mode.

Keep targeting the opposing VR leader (press to switch targets) and defeat them.

Play online VS mode.

Train AI VR - 10
Reinforce buddy VR with AI point.

You get AI points for completing missions. After the first mission, the summary screen will come up telling you how many points you have earned (if any). If you earned AI points:
  • Exit back to the main menu.
  • Select “Terminal” and choose “AI Management.”
  • Choose the third (bottom) selection. This opens up your AI VR edit screen.
  • With one of the sliders on the right highlighted, press Right ( or ) to increase the number for that selection.
  • When done, move down to the bottom selection, press then Up ( or ) and again.
The achievement will unlock when this is completed.

Play with AI VR - 10
Play with AI buddy VR.

Create a VR before starting Mission mode (see “Create AI VR” on how to do that). Then start the first mission of the 1st Operation and the achievement will unlock.

20 online matches - 30
Play 20 matches online.

30 online matches - 30
Play 30 matches online.

You have to play, not win, 30 matches on Xbox Live. For each game there are four players; two on each team. You can either play these legitimately or find boosting partners here. They can be done in Ranked or Player. Each Ranked match can take up to 90 seconds (default time) and Player matches as little as 15 seconds each. Player matches can only be boosted with four players. Ranked you don’t need to boost, although there are still four random players.

Playing Ranked Matches:
  • From the main menu, choose “Versus” then “Ranked Match.”
  • Next, choose the top option (I think it means “Yes”).
  • When the next screen loads up, choose the top option (which is “Begin Matchmaking”).
  • Now, just wait for a game. If you hit or are dropped from a game, you will return to the “Begin Matchmaking” screen.
  • If you have a friend playing, search for a game at the same time and hopefully you will pair up.
Boosting Player Matches (to host a match):
  • From the main menu, choose “Versus” then “Player Match.”
  • Next, choose the second option (which is “Custom Match”).
  • When the next screen loads up, choose the second option (which is “Create Match”).
  • From here you can set the game settings, like make it 1 round instead of 2 (recommended). Leave the rest of the settings unchanged (as changing any of them is unnecessary).
  • When the player list opens up, press to invite your party (if you are in party chat) or to invite individual friends.
  • When all four players are in the lobby, press to start the game.

Brilliant Guide. Love the game, shame Sega never bothered to release it in Europe! Many thanks.

The 2v2 battles aren't an upgrade from the arcade version at all. It was a 2v2 from the start, as the big "4" on the cabinets suggest.
