Hurricane Irene

So is anybody else on the east-coast about to get their ass kicked by this storm. Fortunately I live just outside the major effected areas, but with a basement that's prone too flooding, tree's all around my house, power that goes-out even during mild storms, and a generator that works about half the time, the next few days certainly won't be a picnic.

It's funny I left Louisiana to get away from hurricanes.

Praying I don't go without power for two days.

Here's wishing luck and safety to all my east-coast brethren.

As much as I don't want anything bad to happen, I think everyone is overreacting to this. That being said, if the government tells you to evacuate, GTFO.

I listen to WNYC so I guess I really get an earfull of hurricane Irene evacuations and I also saw a news segment at Jack in the Box about potential damage fear-mongering. I was at Jack's not the news segment.

There's no doubt this is being blown out of proportion, but people on the east coast don't get action like this often.

Like with the earthquake it was something people on the west-coast wouldn't have though twice about, but on the east coast "SWEET JESUS WE'RE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE."

In Louisiana this would be the type of storm you sit on the porch with a beer and wait it out.

i live on the east coast and the last major hurricane up here in mass was around 1998 and then the perfect storm in 1991.

This won't be too bad.... all people need is to bring some loose stuff inside and hope for the better.

Yup I'm in RI and ready for it but like you guys said I think people are making too big a deal. Everyone is going to worry and panic and then it will turn out to be like hurricane Earl a few years ago where nothing happened after it was hyped. I'm just hoping for the best and that we don't lose power so I can still game lol.

Either way I hope everyone else in the East Coast stays safe and plays it smart.

Honestly, I think it is getting too much hype... Unfortunately, the Hurricane Force winds reach pretty far inland, but ultimately cities on the east coast have gone through worse. It is supposed to die down as it reaches the northeastern US, but it will still cause significant damage.

It's going to be bad, but many are blowing this out of proportion.

How right you are... you should have seen people in VA after the Earquake.
It's going to hit us tomorrow... I don't think it'll be that bad... just started pouring around 4 in the morning.

Up here in Connecticut it will just be a tropical storm with heavy rain and some gusts. Not a hurricane or any big storm. People are overreacting to this.

You should of seen the people during the Earthquake. On the news, they were evacuating buildings and such. The Earthquake was way down there near D.C.
So funny.

I think people are definitely over reacting to it. I'm not really too concerned about the hurricane except for the trees around where I am. It has been raining a lot around here and when a big storm comes the trees tend to move quite a bit. I'm a bit worried that one of the trees might get uprooted and destroy the house. D: I think we will be okay though, and I hope the others on the east coast will stay safe! ^_^

Yeah it's definitely gonna suck today, It's supposed to start 8 pm tonight where i'm at. The worst part is the goddamn wait, knowing it's still out there and you can't do anything to stop it.

I live in CT too.... I didn't think they were saying that. On the news (Ch. 8 and 12) they were saying it would be a Cat 1 hurricane, so that's potential of up to 90 mph winds still.

I just hope and pray that everyone makes it through this in one piece. I agree that it's probably not going to be as bad as the media makes it out to be, but I still think everyone should prepare for the worst. It's always better to be ready. ^^

Yup. Hopefully we all don't get blowed away.

The bitch is probably gonna hit us hard. I'm in Virginia on the tiny peninsula under Maryland.

And we havent even got hit with it yet and our roads are nearly flooded and we have lost power twice in the past 12 hours.

I got neighbors who are boarding up their windows, cutting all their power off...

...I live in Boston.

It's gonna rain for 20 minutes, maybe have a few wind gusts, and be over.

I love the people who go out and buy 85 gallons of water, for a family of 4...come on, really? You don't even drink that much water during regular weather, why all of a sudden you going to drink that much in a rain storm? It's going to last a couple hours...maybe a day at max.

I think people are getting paranoid because of all the crap that's happened up here in NE this year.

First that massive tornado, then "the earthquake" (laff), now this.

But yeah, people are totally over-reacting. I was at costco this morning, and saw some lady and her husband get -I counted- 18 cases of water.

Well the tornado didn't touch down here, and "earthquake" didn't happen as far as I am concerned. (I believe the magnitude was less than 1.0, in Boston) So I think its all a gimmick.

If I lived in Florida, or the Carolinas, it'd be a different story.

Don't forget the blizzards this past winter too!

But my sentiments exactly.... I can picture people sitting around with no power and just chugging bottles of water every 5 minutes and yelling at each other to slow down so they can save some for the next hour... lol

We have a fatality that I saw on the news nearby (Tree fell through a house and crushed a kid).

we're suppost to get what are called cyclones here but the last one we had was in like 1996! and anyway, it was nothing really because a few trees got blown over and some widespread flooding but everyone bounced back from it.

So the storm is already in NJ/PA, yet I have not seen one significant video or image of the "devastation" it has "unleashed upon" the country. Florida? Carolinas?

When I start seeing houses getting knocked down, cars getting flipped over and thrown into buildings...etc., I'll start to worry. But until then...
