Achievement Guide

Through The Looking Glass - 25
Completed the scrying ritual

This achievement is story related and can't be missed. It will be unlocked after completing both the Ortan Thaig and the portions of the Witch Hunt quest.

Witch Hunter - 25
Completed "Witch Hunt"

This achievement is story related. It will unlock after talking to Morrigan at the end of the Dragonbone Wastes.

Varterral's Fall - 25
Defeated the varterral on Hard or Nightmare difficulty

This is actually a lot easier than it sounds if you import a high level Warden. The Varterral is encountered at the end of the DLC in the Dragonbone Wastes. The Varterral attaks after a battle with around 10 Cultists. The ground will be covered with a black mist and the game will autosave if you have Autosave turned on. Turn the difficulty to Hard and walk forward to initiate the cutscene. You MUST change difficulty BEFORE the cutscene.

Have Finn stay back and heal while you have the Warden, Dog, and Ariane keep surrounding the Varterral and causing as much damage as possible, as fast as possible. Aim for its legs for the maximum amount of damage. When the Dragonlings come, have Ariane (or your Warden if he/she is a Warrior) take them out quickly.

If the Varterral stuns Finn, have the others take Health Poultices if their Health falls low. If Finn's mana gets low, use a Lyrium Potion. The Varterral doesn't really have powerful attacks, so just watch your characters' health bars and chip away at him and he should go down pretty easilly.

A Time of Wood and Stone - 25
Gathered the lost lore of Cadash Thaig

For this, you will have to complete the "History of Cad'halash" Quest by finding 4 writings about the Elves that lived in Cadash Thaig. All of these are in Cadash Thaig.

  1. In a Chest right behind the first mound of grass that has light shining down on it.
  2. In a chest to the right about half way through the Thaig, surrounded by columns with fire in the background.
  3. In a Pile of bones to the right just before crossing the last bridge.
  4. A Note stabbed through a spear to the left immediately after the last bridge.

Do you have to beat the entire DLC on hard or nightmare difficulty to get the boss achievement or just the boss? And if it's just the boss, how do I know when I'm coming up on that part to be able to switch difficulties in time?

Yeah, that's the most important part. Where do I have to change difficulty for the hard achievement to unlock

Of course I'm hoping bioware didn't patch this nice glitch

You switch the difficulty right after you finish off two Cultists in the bone yard, there will be a massive yard in front of you with black lines and a Cathedral like building entrance to the left in that area.

Really? Maybe there are more than 4 but you only need to find 4? I'll check this out later while I'm making my walk-through.

As for the Zarterral, it is after a battle with around 10 cultists. The ground will be covered in a dark mist and the game will Autosave.

Yeah, you can make your final save and switch to Hard mode right before entering the field in the Dragonbone Wastes. The final fight is ten times easier than the one from the previous DLC, don't worry. Your team might die when the creature summons dragons, but if you kill them fast enough and spam at the creature's legs, it will be over in 1 minute, no joke.

Yeah I believe mine was the same as well. Chest, pile, pile, spear

Maybe it made a difference because I didn't have a rogue in my party to get in any locked chests unless the second chest mentioned isn't referring to a locked one? Either way, to be safe people.. just look around and loot all things you can, it was very simple to find.. just don't return to the world map without the achievement. Use the radial menu if you are having trouble (by holding it down and looking around while it's up it will display chests, etc.. within a reasonable distance when aimed in the direction of them) to look for chests, piles, etc... one actually is called a note which is on a spear and is the final piece so if you get that one and didn't get the achievement, back-track.

I may just be being stupid but I'm trying to get A Time of Wood and Stone but I can't find the first stash?!? I've looked all around that bit of grass, can't see a chest anywhere. Any help?

Mystery solved: I thought you meant literally the first mound of grass, but infact the first mound of grass has the Eleven site to view on it, sorted!

It was the same for me too, and my warden is a Rogue so that doesn't seem to be the reason..

I only found three of these and still got the achievement. Got the first one and the one to the right of the bridge near the pile of bones. I then crossed the bridge and got the one on the spear. Don't know if it glitched for me but I'm sure I only got those three and no others.

Alright, the guide is almost done, however the locations of the notes in the Thaig didn't change for me. Could someone give me the location of the other pile of bones? Thanks.

I played this DLC the entire time on Hard and didn't die once. I'm not saying I'm great at DA, because I'm not, just pointing out that Hard isn't anything compared with the Golem DLC. I didn't even realize I had left it on Hard from the final Golem DLC achievement until later in my playthrough. At least this made the battles last a little longer

DA DLC is disappointing compared with Fallout 3, even given the cost is lower 400 or 560 vs. 800.

For DA2, I think I will wait until its "Ultimate" edition before I purchase it. Purchasing the Collector's edition and all the DLC for DA feels like a rip-off.

Yeah, this is the proper order, the first one the tc says is not there. Just caused a lot of frustration for faulty info lol.

It's def. In the chest, bones, bones, spear

I felt just the opposite! I thought that this was some great dlc, and well worth the $23 I paid for the Ultimate Edition. I guess each to their own.

Great guide btw.
