I'm not very good at this game. Please Help!

So I suck at this game, but am enjoying it.

I'm stuck on Mission 3 and have failed it twice. First time was a rebel attack that killed me, second was going so far into debt. I can't figure out how to get a bigger military and I also lose money far to often.

Does anyone have any tips that I can use to continue playing this game? What are some solid tips that work the majority of the time.

I really like it, but I'm garbage at it.

Thanks

A few simple tips should see you through most of the story missions:

1. Activate the food for people and pension edicts as well as the nuclear test that will net you an extra 10k at the expensive of the environmentalists happiness (who dont matter). Also when you can issue the humanitarian aid edict.

2. Build a few salt mines, if no salt mines go for the metal option, dont go for oil yet as it takes college educted people to run it. As you make more and more money just keep building more and more as you go along

3. Insert what ever building you need for helping you through your mission, in this case an army base and pay for a foreign specialist if there is no one to hire as a general. You may also want to consider having a interior so you can issue various other edicts such as military conscription and modernization.

4. Build a few government building such as foreign affairs office (which allows you to cut the price of housing by half) and a imagration office so if you need a load of poorly educated immigrants to work in all your mines, construction and teamsters offices etc... you can flood the island with them.

Just keep in mind that you need industry and food so keep building the mines and oil deposits and ranches/farms when you can and when you have a steady income go for housing, education and factory's and just keep building .

Hope this helps.

This sounds great, exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate all the help.

Its worth checking out the Kalypso Media website (www.kalypsomedia.com) and reading the forums there. The community there is terrific when you're trying to learn how to play this game. There is so much that goes on in this game that they don't ever really explain. Its unfortunate really because it is such a great game but I think people get easily discouraged because you have to learn so much on your own.

One thing to try early on is to build a cannery and set it to allow imports. Then, set your import level at the docks to no limit. For the first year or so you'll be broke because you'll spend all your money on imports but eventually the money you make from exports far exceeds the price of imports and you'll have more than enough money to start with. The import/export aspect they added in Tropico 4 is one of the best ideas ever in this series. Obviously any industry will require high school educated Tropicans which can be recruited for fairly cheap early on but your best bet is to just build a high school early on.

Another early game startegy to try is a single logging camp and a single lumber mill. While not as lucrative as the cannery option you won't need to spend money on imports and the lumber mill is cheaper to build than the cannery. Again, you're going to need highschool educated Tropicans for the lumber mill.

Not to toot my own horn but I am really quiet good at this game because I've spent alot of time reading the ins and outs of what works. If you have any questions at all fell free to post and I'll do what I can to help. Once you get the hang of what is going on this game is a blast...

It gets easier

I cant remember what the 3d mission is but if you are having trouble with getting killed by rebels make sure that you build an armory really early on. This will get your first college educated male a job as a General. Once you do that you will need to work your way to a ministry. I always set the work mode of my Guard stations and Mansion to Special ops training. All you need to worry about is making sure you have paid them enough to make their job happiness enough to compensate for the more strenuous job.
