Getting tired of random vampire attacks...

Ever since I joined the Dawnguard, random vampires keep jumping me, often in the middle of cities where quest-important NPC's and vendors easily get caught in the crossfire and killed. I'm getting sick of having to reset to last save just because someone I MIGHT need later got blasted by a vamp or his pet gargoyle.

Does finishing the Dawnguard main quest-line stop, or at least decrease the frequency of, these vampire-attacks? 'cuz if so, I think I'll have to move it waaaay up my list of priorities...

i think they at least decrease hugely, if not cease all together. ive lost quite a few blacksmiths to these wankers and a few other named NPC's who i dont know but still could be important later on. i never really played after dawnguard as i did it last on my main x360 character and im like halfway through it on my PC character, so i haven't really played post-dawnguard, but i imagine they would stop if not become very rare.

Good to know this. It makes more sense for me to play Dawnguard last, after I finish the main game.

do you mean to download it after the main game? because if you download it but still dont even start it, you will still get randomly attacked by vampires(i think). so it would be best to do it straight away and avoid travelling to places were important NPC's are until you finish the questline, or not install the DLC until you finish everything in the original game.

I broke and DL it the other day but I haven't went to Dawnguard yet. SO FAR...I haven't been vampire attacked yet...yet.

Edit...I got my first vampire attack inside Whiterun a little while ago. He also killed a guard. And since I wasn't planning on starting Dawnguard until I finished my main game, I copied it onto my memory stick and it's no longer apart of my game...not until I'm ready for it.

From my experience, if the NPC can be killed then they are not that important to the story.

Sure, but there's a HUGE difference between 'important to the story' and 'important to you'. A few dead merchants can make unloading all your loot a much bigger pain, and lots of quests can be failed or rendered incompleteable if the wrong person winds up dead at the wrong time. Only a few quests are considered 'vital' enough that those involved are rendered immortal until completed.

This is the same with me but I keep being attacked by Dawnguard. I'm not even a vampire any more...

So far almost an entire year I've been playing Skyrim with one character. By the time
Dawnguard came out I was level 81 and had completed everything else so the Vampire attacks weren't all that annoying. They provided a nice little distraction here and there.

However, I just started my first new character...Starting the game from the beginning, with Dawnguard installed, is very...VERY...annoying. The vampires aren't difficult or anything, its just that at this point in the game I'm trying to quickly get a few things done and the vampires slow me down.

Agreed - the Vamp attacks are super-annoying. I once walked out of Understone Keep in Markarth and a message popped up: "Failed: Bring The Last Scabbard of Such-and-Such to Ghorza". I headed to the main courtyard area (near the entrance to the city), and of course Ghorza and some guards had just been killed by a bunch of vampires and their creepy undead dogs.

Reload...

I haven't played Dawnguard yet(will of course eventually) but my friend said it was very disapointing in term that its in the same realm of Skyrim(opose to Shivering Isles, Tribunal, Bloodmoon that were elsewhere of the main game land) so basically he said its even shorter than Knight of the Nine... a couple of uninspired quest and thats it...

So if on top of that there is random Vampire attacks all the time... wow it will wait a damn long time before i download it(when ill be sure im done and out with Skyrim and no other DLC is coming) cause dragons attack in towns already piss me off badly... the constant reload and such, NPC can't survive a fire blast from an ancient dragon...

I purposely avoid the small town cause every damn time i get to them(the one with no walls), there is always a damn dragon... I have no problem with random dragon attacks in wilderness, but in cities where NPC can die... piss me off badly.

I find the vampire attacks to be distracting, but they are no different from a random dragon landing in the middle of the city.

I get more random dragons killing people than vampires, both are annoying.

Vampire attacks are a pain, but I don't think they stop completely when you finish DG; They're added to the random encounters in the game (like dragons, bounty hunters and whatever).

Lost the Blacksmith at Whiterun to a vampire attack - pain, 'cos that's two of the merchants I use most frequently gone.
