Post your poison

Alcohol was mentioned in the other thread, so I thought I would start one here.

What's your favourite recreational beverage? Do you mix it? (Uncivilized heathen) Do you take it neat or on the rocks? Discuss.

And yes this is also a thread where mockery and judgement are the norm.

2 good sipping drinks: I have a bottle of Hennessy XO cognac and a bottle of Glen Breton single malt scotch. Great for sipping by the fire and the flavours are rich and full.

For just having a drink I like some Crown Royal or Gibson Whisky. Canadian Whisky is the best in the world, and if you think otherwise, you're wrong.

I don't take my drinks with water or ice cubes, and I sure as hell don't ruin perfectly good booze by mixing. Straight up is the only way to go.

Then I consider myself a semi-civilized heathen.

There is a time and a place to mix, not everything, but some things.

You poor soul. So many better beers out there.

Beer: too many individual breweries I like to list. Way too many. But styles: prefer a good heavy flavourful IPA and dark or red ales. Smashbomb from Flying Monkeys and Flower Power from Ithaca Brewing Co. are two awesome representatives of all things holy in a good IPA. Smithwick's is one of my favourite reds.

Wine:
White: prefer sauvignon blanc and vidal
Red: Cab Sav's and Chianti (with or without the fava beans and liver)

Hard stuff:
Sipping: Armagnac. I will not, can not, shall not, ever mix an Armagnac. Superior to an XO cognac in my mind, this stuff is unreal. I only crack out my bottle on special occasions like babies and weddings.

Brandy: Paarl 5 Star out of South Africa, easily better than most cognacs, just not from the Cognac region of France.

Mixing: A lot of things but load up on Voidka, through and through.

Depends on the crowd i'm with, the venue, my mood and a whole lot of other things.

As far as beer goes i always go for the local ale. If that's not available i just buy mass marketed bottle beer. Usually Budweiser.

With spirits i do like my bourbon. The pubs around me often only have Jim Beam or Makers Mark. Obviously JD too, but that stuff is god awful. I'll have them with ice, no mixer.

Don't drink too often, but when I do, I normally drink beer.

I love stouts and dark beers. My current favorite is Guinness, but I'm sure that'll change once I branch out to some other stouts.

Ever had Young's Double Chocolate Stout?
Or Dragon Stout?

Those are pretty awesome.

I was tempted to buy Young's the other day at this market, but decided against it. I've heard it's amazing. I've actually never heard of Dragon Stout, definitely gonna check that out.

I've tried the following recently and liked them quite a bit:
Newcastle Werewolf Ale
Shock Top End Of The World Midnight Wheat
Highland Thunderstruck Coffee Porter

Currently in the fridge waiting to try:
Murphy's Irish Stout

Excited to try the Murphy's since a lot of people say it's actually better than Guinness.

Scotland here, nice try, Canada.

On that note, whisky for me, top 5 in a rough order:
  1. Ardbeg 10y/o
  2. Laphroaig QC
  3. Lagavulin 16y/o
  4. Laphroaig 10y/o
  5. Talisker 10y/o

All straight and a nice big measure.

Heh, as you can tell I love the peaty and smoky whiskies.

Also just to point out, you know Glen Breton isn't Scotch? It's Canadian.

That's my favourite stuff but if somewhere's got a pish selection, although thankfully most places seem to at least have a bottle of Laphroaig, I'm happy to drink whatever ale there is depending upon whether I fancy something heavy or something light and hoppy.

Also I love mead when I've been able to get it but that's rare to find anywhere.

I do actually. I threw that in there to see if a real Whisky/Scotch drinker would catch that. Congrats, you passed .

Yeah they actually got sued by a hole bunch of Scottish distilleries for using the word Glen in their name. They won and got to keep the name. I know Scotch is only Whisky distilled in Scotland.

You should try some of Canada's finest Whisky exports. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised. Try an actual pure Rye for some kick.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't be opposed to it, I love trying anything new and the only reason I haven't tried any Canadian stuff is I don't recall ever seeing any beyond having to buy a whole bottle in a small number of shops.

Haha, I'm glad to see you don't seem to have taken my post too seriously though, I was more just taking the piss

Beer: Guinness Stout or Smithwick's are my most commonly consumed beers. Though I always like to try new stuff. I do not live to far from a micro-brewery, so I have the chance to sample stuff all the time.

Whiskey: Most commonly Tullamore Dew, Jamesons or Bushmill's...If I have the money, I like to treat myself to a nice bottle of 12 Year Old Red Breast.

Wine: Not a real big wine drinker....Maybe Oliver's Camelot Mead?

Say whaaaat??? Nah, to each their own...You either like Guinness or you don't. That being said, Murphy's Irish Stout is a great beer, a little less heavy, and not quite as bitter. Just don't make me choose which is better
