starting tips for the first timer

If you plan to invest significant time into this whopper of a game I would suggest a few things.

Op-shopping: everytime u visit a shop, be sure to keep a look out for the following things

- boots of muffling: higher chance of appearing at low levels, useful to disenchant.
- waterbreathing enchanted item: just like the above.
- health regen enchanted item: useful to disenchant.

These particular items have useful abilities that you can use to enchant your own apparel with. Also they rarely appear in shops, so if you see them, get them!

Potions: whether you plan to be an alchemist or not, the following items cn be useful to make super useful or valuable potions. There are others, but these ones come to mind.

- giants toe. Combine with wheat to get a high value item.
- spriggan sap, glowing mushroom. Useful for fortify smithing/alchemy potions.

Quests: these quests can give you items or abilities to help buff your characters skills or bestow some unique items:

Whiterun: the whispering lady daedric quest. You receive a strong great sword that drains life with each successful hit, upon completion of this quest.

Riften: there is an argonian who asks you to return a lexicon to a dwemer location in the far north. You'll receive a bonus to your armour and blacksmithing everytime you don dwarven armour upon completion of this quest.

Apocrypha (dragonborn) - read the black book: winds of change to start that quest. One of the rewards from this lets you gain 2 skill points Instead of 1 everytime you read a book.

Azura shrine: daedric quest initiated here. Upon completion you receive one of two varieties of azuras star. This is essentially an unbreakable soul gem.

If you guys can think of other tips for the starting player, not necessarily quest choices or character builds, just add on!

Making Iron Dagger and Enchanting them to make easy money...

You can create an iron dagger at any level, and only need an Iron Ingot and a Leather Strap(or leather piece, whatever, but cheap in store or easily get them in nature, as any animal skin will do)

Then when its done, enchant it with your best enchantement, of course you need a soul gem, but a petty would do, so either find them or buy them in store(merely 30 bucks) and fill them with mudcrabs or wolves and such.

Normally even at low lev you should get a dagger worth a couple hundred bucks in stores... and it merely costed you nothing.

You have acces to the forge at the beginning of the game in whiterun and the arcane enchanter in dragonreach(whiterun) too...

have a set weight-to-gold ratio and stick to it.

it might look like a good idea to pick up a piece of armor because it sells for 100gold... but when it weights 50, it means it's gold/weight ratio is only 2gold per kilo (or whether measurement they use in Skyrim).
some times things like food has a ratio of 3-4gold per kilo... meaning it would be smarter to pick up fifty pieces of food instead of the armor.

hell.. Leek has a weight of 0.1 and a value of 1 gold. that alone means it's ratio is 10 gold per kilo.

as you level up, you can revise your ratio to the point where you don't even pick up swords or even enchanted items any more... only jewelry.
