Dinos [Kleidos Challenges Guide]

Overview:

Estimated achievement difficulty:7/10

Offline: 46 (1000:gsicon:)

Online: 0 (0:gsicon:)

Approximate amount of time to 1000:gsicon:: 25 + hours

Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2 + Challenges

Missable achievements: 1 - Classic Flavor

Does difficulty affect achievements?: Yes, Prince of Darkness difficulty

Unobtainable/glitched achievements: None

Extra equipment needed?: None

Introduction:

Welcome to the much bloodier sequel of the supremely good Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Castlevania: Mirror of Fate. Many centuries after the events of the first games, Gabriel Belmont has become Dracula himself and is awaken by his old pal Zobek to go on a quest that will lead them to Satan.

Surprisingly, the game is much different than its predecessor mostly because the time setting often switches from the modern time to the past. Also, the game isn’t divided in chapters, it’s a world in which you are traveling between the different zones of Castlevania City (modern time) and Dracula’s Castle (past).

Two playthroughs will be needed for the full completion as the Prince of Darkness difficulty unlocks after completing the game on any difficulty. There are 90 gems, 27 Piles of Sacrifice, 24 Soldier's Diaries, 29 Memorials and 17 Experience Shrines to find. There is also one missable achievement (please see the “Classic Flavor” achievement for more information). Though, you can revisit any area when you complete the game to find the collectibles you missed.

Note: If you open your world map by pressing :back: > :xbut:, it shows how many Piles of Sacrifice, Gems and Experience Shrines remain in every area.

First playthrough:

Here I've enumerated my recommendations for your first playthrough to ease your second one.

  • Get comfortable with the game’s mechanics and enjoy the story.
  • Find all the Void, Chaos & Life gems (90 total).
  • Find all the Pile of Sacrifices (27 total).
  • Find all the Memorials and the Soldier's Diaries (29 Memorials & 24 Soldier's Diaries)
  • Find all the Experience Shrines.
  • Destroy as many breakable environmental objects to collect as many Artworks as possible.
  • Max the Mastery Level of your three weapons.
  • Get the “Classic Flavor” achievement (missable).

Please note that the "The Outer Limits" achievement (110% of the game) can be unlocked on your first playthrough as completing the game on Prince of Darkness difficulty isn't a requirement. With that being said, the Mastery levels of your weapons DO NOT carry over to your New Game + which means that you'll have to level up your weapons a second time if you start a new playthrough.

Here's the list that contains the amount of Gems, Piles of Sacrifice, Memorials, Experience Shrines and Soldier's Diaries for every area:

Dracula's Castle

  • Overlook Tower - 12 Gems, 8 Soldier's Diaries, 2 Pile of Sacrifice & 1 Experience Shrines
  • Berhard's Wing - 7 Gems, 8 Soldier's Diaries, 2 Pile of Sacrifice & 4 Experience Shrines
  • City of the Damned - 14 Gems, 6 Soldier's Diaries, 4 Pile of Sacrifice & 1 Experience Shrines
  • Carmilla's Lair - 7 Gems, 2 Soldier's Diaries, 4 Pile of Sacrifice & 1 Experience Shrines

Castlevania City

  • Downtown - 6 Gems, 4 Memorials, 1 Pile of Sacrifice & 3 Experience Shrines
  • Art District - 10 Gems, 8 Memorials, 4 Pile of Sacrifice & 3 Experience Shrines
  • Sciences District - 19 Gems, 13 Memorials, 6 Piles of Sacrifice & 4 Experience Shrines.
  • Victory Plaza - 12 Gems, 4 Memorials, 4 Pile of Sacrifice & 2 Experience Shrines

Please see the "Expert Silversmith" Achievement for collectibles videos.

Second Playthrough:

If you found all the collectibles on your first run, you can concentrate on completing the main storyline on the Prince of Darkness without having to worry about any side stuff. In this run, enemies will deal much more damage and will be much more aggressive. Please see the “Prince of Darkness” achievement for more information.

Kleidos Challenges:

Now that you’ve almost completed everything, there are 16 challenges that are unlocked by finding the Piles of Sacrifice. Every challenge has four requirements and most of them are hard. It means that completing them on the Prince of Darkness difficulty will prove to be a great challenge and will require a lot of patience and effort.

To access the Kleidos challenges, press :bbut: in front of the mirror in the Chupacabras' store.

Here's an excellent guide made by Dinos over at PST.org: CLICK HERE!

Conclusion:

It’s a solid and challenging list with a lot of collectibles and luckily with a single missable achievement. The gameplay is amazing with its dozens of crazy combos, great visuals, intriguing story and epic boss battles. Lords of Shadow 2 is much different than its predecessor, but it is still very enjoyable and deserves to be played.

Complete the game at "Prince of Darkness" difficulty

The Prince of Darkness difficulty is unlocked by completing the game on any difficulty. The positive part of this achievement is that it has to be done on New Game+ with all your upgrades.

As it is possible to free roam after you’ve completed your first playthrough, I would recommend finding all Void, Chaos and Life gems and all the Piles of Sacrifice before attempting your playthrough on Prince of Darkness difficulty. Also, please note that the level of Mastery for every weapon doesn't carry over to New Game +.

Tips:

  • The most common tips to all Hack 'n' Slash games would be to know the enemies' attacks and learning to block and dodge correctly. In this game, most of the attacks are unblockable which means that dodging will be your biggest asset. Safety first, never concentrate only on attacking or you'll get killed fast enough. If you feel surrounded, jump and dodge to get some free space and get a better view on the battlefield. Plus, staying untouched keeps your Focus meter up which regenerates your Magic gauges.

  • Aerial attacks are very often a safe way to cause damage to the enemies. The combination of the Rising Whip, Aerial Whip & Guillotine followed by a side Dodge is really good -> (:xbut:, :abut:) + (:xbut:, :xbut:) + (Hold :xbut: in the air) + (:ltbut: to dodge). Instead of using the Guillotine, you can use the Chaos Claw's Meteorite attack (:rbbut: > :ltbut:, :xbut: in the air) or the the Void's Drop and Perforation (:lbbut: > :ltbut:, :xbut: in the air) if you have enough Magic.

  • Void Magic is very useful. If there are unarmored enemies, use the Void Kata (:lbbut: > :ltbut:, Hold :ybut:) attack to draw the enemies in your void to fill your Health bar almost instantly. Using the Combined Cut (:lbbut: > :ybut:, :ybut:, :ybut:, :ybut:) on multiple enemies will also give you a good amount of health and will use less magic than Void Kata.

  • Try to avoid area attacks (often attacks using a combination of :ybut:) as you deal less damage and you are more vulnerable. Use directs attacks (often with :xbut:). The Sustained Whip (Hold the first :xbut: then :xbut:, :xbut:, :xbut:, :xbut:) attack should be one of your most common used attacks when you are not entirely surrounded by other enemies as it deals a lot of damage.

  • Always drink the blood of the enemies (:bbut:) to finish them. It'll regenerate your health and give you a few seconds to breathe down in the middle of the fight.

  • Take advantage of where you are. If you know that there is a Magic statue nearby, use powerful attacks that use a lot of magic and then refill your gauges when the fight is over (Chaos Claws attacks): Explosive Earthquake (:rbbut: > :rtbut:, :ybut:, :ybut:... Hold :ybut:) or Avalanche (:rbbut: > :ltbut:, Hold :xbut: + :ls: in any direction).

  • Don't forget about your Relics. They're very useful and can get you out of sticky situations (see the "Multiple Pockets" achievement for more information on the relics). If you're stuck in a specific fight, I recommend using the Dragon Talisman. It'll instantly kill all the enemies in the area (except paladins). Please note that Talisman's pieces can be bought at the Chupacabras' store.

  • You can take off all the QTEs that can get you killed: :start: > Configuration > Game Options > Play without QTEs.

  • Don't forget that you can dodge while airbone by pressing :ltbut:.

Complete all of the Kleidos challenges at "Prince of Darkness" difficulty

To unlock the Kleidos challenges, you must find the 17 Piles of Sacrifice that reward you of either, Sapphire, Ruby, Amethyst and Emerald spikes + 1 Kleidos. You also need to complete the game on any difficulty to unlock the Prince of Darkness difficulty.

All of the 16 challenges have four requirements and they must all be unlocked on Prince of Darkness difficulty. As mentioned in the roadmap, some of the Kleidos achievements are extremely difficult mostly because of their requirements. The challenges can be started from the mirror in the Chupacabras’ store (press :bbut: in front of it).

Recover all the Void, Chaos and Life gems

There are 90 gems to find throughout the game that will upgrade your Void, Chaos and your Health Meters. Most of the gems require a little bit of exploration, but aren't very hard to find either. Though, many of them will require you either the Mist or Double Jump upgrades that are unlocked during the course of the main storyline. You can track your progression in the Extras Menu and you can see in which areas you still need to find Gems on your worlds map by pressing :back: > :xbut:.

Please note that the Dodo Egg Relic shows you the exact location of the nearest Gem, Pile of Sacrifice or Experience stone. These eggs can also be bought at the Chupacabras' store for 200 Experience points. Also, the store refills itself of eggs every time you go up & down the elevator if you want to buy more than three eggs.

Recover all the upgrades for the Relics

There are 6 Relics in the game that you can select by pressing and holding :ddown::

  • Tears of a Saint (temporarily increases maximum Health).
  • Ensnared Demon (temporarily grants you of unlimited Void & Chaos magic).
  • Dodo Eggs (help you find nearby Gems, Piles of Sacrifice & Experience Shrines).
  • Seal of Alastor (temporarily unlocks all the skills and increases your Mastery Level).
  • Stolas' Clock (temporarily slows down times and gives you extra Experience points every time you strike an enemy with any attack).
  • Dracula's Dragon Talisman (kills all the enemies nearby).

When you start playing, you can only hold three of every Relic. To upgrade the amount of Relics you can hold, you must find the 10 out of the 27 Piles of Sacrifice that will give you Relic upgrades.

The Dodo Egg Relic shows you the exact location of the nearest Gem, Pile of Sacrifice or Experience stone. These eggs can be bought at the Chupacabras' store for 200 Experience points. Please note that the the store only holds three eggs at once, but it refills itself of one egg every time you go up & down the elevator.

Collect all of the art

There are 400 artworks to find, but aren’t in specific spots like the Gems or the Piles of Sacrifice. They are found by destroying environmental objects such as wood boxes, handrails, garbage cans, books, etc. It means that you must destroy as many objects as possible every time it is possible for you to do so. This achievement should unlock while going for the full completion.

The best attack to destroy many objects simultaneously is the Combined Sweep (:ybut:, :ybut:, :ybut:, :ybut:...)

Note that you can also buy a few Artworks at the Chupacabras’ store and going up and down the elevator refills the store in artworks too. You can track your progress from the Extras menu.

The Chupacabras’ shop opens after you rescue him during the course of the main story. His store is located in the City of the Damned and offers different Relics (including Dodo Eggs that locate collectibles for you and Dragon Talisman pieces), Dungeon Keys (I recommend to carry many of these at all time), Artworks, and three different gems for the price of 5000 Experience points each. You’ll spend 15,000 Experience points just for buying the gems that are required for the full completion which means that there will be another 5000 Experience points to spend on other stuff.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2377/41.jpg Weapons Master 30:gsicon:

Increase the Mastery Level of all weapons to the maximum

Your three weapons (Void Sword, your Chaos Claws and your Shadow Wip) all have three levels of Mastery. In order to reach them, you must transfer enough of the “combo gauges” you filled to the weapon itself. What does it mean? It means that when you use any attack of any weapon, it fills its “combo gauge” which can be transferred to the associated weapon when completely filled. Though, every attack’s “combo gauge” can only be filled once which means that you must use a variety of attacks to fill as many gauges as possible. It may sound complicated, but it is very simple.

In order to transfer a “combo gauge”, do as follows: :back: > Skills tab > select the filled gauge and press :abut:. The current level of a weapon and its progression is shown in the skills tab, left of the skill tree. In the options of the start menu, you can enable the option of being able to see the progression of every attack when you use them: :start: > Configuration > Combat Display > check Show weapon mastery.

Please note that you do not need to fill the "combo gauge" of every attack to reach the highest level of Mastery of a weapon. So I would recommend using the combos combos you are the most comfortable with.

Also, the Mastery levels for your weapons DO NOT carry over to your second playthrough which is why I recommend doing this on your first playthrough on an easy difficulty.

The best way to farm a lot of easy kills would be to play the "Infection: Second seal" Kleidos challenge on an easy difficulty.

Since its probably achievement related. RIGHT at the start of the game...in what appears to be the first part outside of the intro tutorial thing....where you first possess someone. Theres all this stuff behind these bars. How do you get in there!? Im scared to leave the room because it seems like the goes in the complete opposite direction.

You need the Mist upgrade that you will unlock during the course of the game :) In certain areas, you'll also need the Double Jump upgrade to reach the cheesy stuff.

Sorry for so many questions. So your saying to get everything you would essentially HAVE to play it twice? Or will I be able to get mist and head back to that area before I have beaten the game?

You can go to any area you discovered at anytime during the game. You do not need to beat the game to do so. Though, what I recommend in the guide is to find every possible collectible for your second playthrough to make it as easy as possible.

Oh okay, cool. Thanks for taking the time for making the guide and the Qs.

Not sure if you're aware but you lose your mastery level and all skills when you start NG+. You do get all your experience that you spent on skills refunded so you can just rebuy all your skills, but mastery levels have to be relearned.

That's exactly the kind of info I needed, I'll update, thanks :)

Difficulty 9/10? Really? Wow

8 or 9 for sure because of the challenges on Prince of Darkness difficulty. Maybe there are hidden tricks, but they're very hard.

@ParoXysm QC

I haven't still bought the game... Are there time trials or "don't get hit during a Boss fight" challenges?

Thank You for your quick guide. Nice work ;)

Well, there are 16 challenges that all have requirements (most of them are very hard). I only tried a single challenge yet and there was some kind of time trial (kill all three enemies with less than 20secs between each kill). There might be more similar challenges (possibly challenges where you must not get hit at all), I'll update as fast as I can!

From what I hear that one you tried is actually exceptionally simple. Unleash the DRAGON!!! lol

Seems mixed reactions online regarding the challenges, some are saying their hard, some are saying their easy.

I think a lot of them are going to require people to go about them in ways that wouldn't just come to mind on a first attempt. Most are just going to take a lot of thought and strategy to do rather then jumping in and mashing buttons. Like some of the tips people are giving are for the ones where you don't have no item types of handicaps you use the relic that grants infinite magic and use a certain magic attack which makes it a lot more manageable (I forget what magic attack it was but it had to do with the bats ability I think).

I have a feeling that once people figure out the best ways to approach them then the difficulty will go down quite a bit. It was similar with Metal Gear Risings VR's. VR 18 without the right tactics will completely destroy you.
