Wiipainted - (Pictures)

A couple people had expressed some interest, so I thought I'd share with the community at large. This past weekend I went about the exciting task of ripping apart my Wii so that I could make it truly mine. As a result, I am now the owner of the world's first Red Nintendo Wii. There's a more detailed write-up over at my site, but here's the bones of it.

Contains Graphic Images of Console Disassembly

(Not for pregnant women, those with high blood pressure, the faint of heart or people who want a Wii but still can't find one at the store.)

Yes, it still works.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Seven bucks worth of paint, one weekend, and a bit of determination and experimentation later and I'm the proud owner of a Hot Rod Red Nintendo Wii.

Let me know what you think. :)

(Next comes flames on the sides and a LED swap for the disc loader. ;))

They have released cases, one thing first party manufacturers never do for consoles, for the controllers. The colors look pretty horrid though. Standard colors but poor implementation :(.

They're not cases. They're simply skins, two completely different things.

Plus, what's the fun of just buying a plain skin? That's not original at all.

Very true, I stand corrected. I don't think I would have much fun modding the case but I would love looking at it. I was wondering though, doesn't spray paint have a slick surface? Doesn't that make it even harder to hold onto your controllers when bowling or playing baseball?

Are you going to replace the LEDs? I bet the blue ones look horrid with the new color.

The blue doesn't actually look as bad as you might think, but yes, I'm going to replace the LEDs in the loader. I want to do Orange, but I'm not sure if they are available for purchase. If not, I may put a Yellow on one side and a Red on the other and hope that it looks orange when it lights up.

And yeah, those controller skins are pretty gross looking. They snap over the original plastic and the colors look even worse on the controller than they do just in the box because they are translucent. Well, I think they do anyway.

If you want to make a color mod to your controller/system without voiding the warranty, I recommend Decal Girl. I've purchased stuff from them before (one for my PSP, one for my original XBox) and they do a great job. Plus, they've actually improved the way they print their vinyls since then, so I'm told it's even better than it was before.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This is only the beginning, but it's nice to know people think it's a good start.

This particular paint is more akin to dye than Spray Paint, so it doesn't change the texture of the surface at all. As for using actual Spray Paint, paint has more tack than the plain plastic casing, so you're actually less likely to lose your grip after it's been painted.

l would love a Custom Controller. Hey Monster around the end of April when i hopefully get my japanese 360 would i be able to pay to paint a controller for me?

Absolutely. Though we should arrange any details off-site. Don't know if this would get into the realm of selling/etc and don't want to run the risk of causing trouble for the boards (since there's been talk of selling and the potential issues before). If you want to I can PM you my e-mail address or you can PM me yours and we'll go from there.

Hard to tell from the images because of the reflections, but the faceplate is all chrome. ;)
