DaveBodom
Just looking if anyone has any recommendations, my girlfriends recently got an xbox with an interest in getting into gaming and i'm a bit stuck on where to start.. She's never really gamed before besides a family Wii, and has a bit of difficulty getting used to one analog for camera and one movement, so any games good for getting people adapted into that opposed to just throwing her in and having her hate it from frustration would be good too. Borderlands, Lego series went down well so far. Edited September 7, 2012 by DaveBodom
The5point5
Skyrim would be a good game to get used to the analogs and stuff I think. Whatever you do, don't let her play CoD or some fast-paced shooting games first. It won't go well for the controller ;P Edited September 7, 2012 by The5point5

DaveBodom
Never enjoyed COD personally so never even considered zombies etc, might give Skyrim a go as i suppose the open ended would be good.
SilentStrike011
Just pick good games. Girls don't always want kiddy games or different games. I'm female, I found out from my ex that guys don't like it when their girl can beat 'em at games. I finish top of the team 9 times out of 10 on Black Ops and when it comes to horde on Gears the locust don't stand a chance. I love my racing games, FPS, GTA style games, Gears, Assassins Creed, Fifa, Mass Effect got 'em all and regularly play 'em all. (I've even got snooker ) Just don't choose something that you would class as awful or with game breaking issues.

Capn Doug
You are probably going to want something that showcases the kinds of games that are on offer, but not games with overwhelming difficulty. For introducing someone to gaming, a multiplayer game is not the place to start, since playing online while inexperienced can just take the fun out of the entire thing. As a result, here would be my recommendations (assuming that your girlfriend is not already a completionist): Assassin's Creed Alan Wake Prince of Persia Batman: Arkham Tomb Raider series Portal 2 (advantage of being a great co-op experience) After someone is comfortable with gaming, then you can try multiplayer, but I would not recommend starting there. But really, start with some single player and co-op experiences.

EmporerDragon
I'm female, I found out from my ex that guys don't like it when their girl can beat 'em at games. I wouldn't say all us guys are like that. To me, having a girlfriend that can kick my ass at games means I have a rival to constantly challenge myself against. Back to the main subject, I'd agree with Capn Doug. For now, stick with single player and co-op games. For games, I'd suggest some of the side-scrolling beat-em-ups like Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crashers as those make for good co-op. I also recommend, at the risk of sounding like a broken record on these types of threads, the Dynasty Warriors games. They're simple to learn, but have really fun gameplay, enjoyable characters, and loads of content (It generally takes between 50-100 hours to 1K the main titles). They also have co-op, so you can team up in taking down hundreds upon hundreds of enemies (Though only player 1 gets the achievements). Finally, another series I'd suggest would be the Earth Defense Force games. It's you vs. a massive army of bugs with an obscene amount of weapons at your disposal (For example, in Insect Armageddon, you can get a homing shotgun). They're also considered some of the better co-op games out there. Another way to go, as you mentioned she's never really gamed before, would be to introduce her to the classics. Something like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or the Namco Museum would be good choices, and if you've got a Wii, the upcoming Kirby collection would be another excellent choice. After all, there's nearly a half-century of video games out there, you don't want to limit yourself to only the past few years.
Tsaako
Viva Pinata series, Minecraft and ofc, the mass effect series. No matter what age, what gender, what your sexual preference is, you love the ME series!

mikehoncho69420
I would try Tekken or Mortal Kombat. Chicks dig fighting games, unless you're only trying to get her familiar the analog sticks.
Fire Hawk D
Why even mention she's a woman? Shouldn't factor in the gender of the gamer. Doesn't really matter. Anyway, yeah, avoid Call of Duty or other fast-paced games. Get some games in the vein of where most of us started: some platformers or such. Dust: An Elysian Tale is supposed to be good. Limbo, Shadow Complex, Deadlight... They can all be fun and interesting. Heck, I know my family sat around watching my brother die about 40 times in Limbo and laughed our heads off. If you can get your hands on that Wii mentioned or a 3DS, you can REALLY start where most of us did and pop in some Virtual Console games. Speaking from experience, because I'm doing just that with my daughter as she's developing. Edited September 8, 2012 by Fire Hawk D

Report Fast
Start her off right with a nice easy RPG, Oblivion would be a good one because it is a little more on the simple side for a new gamer rather than Skyrim which is pretty in depth. Whatever you do dont get her into call of duty, unless you want a bunch of 12 year olds harassing her all day =p.

Im aware gender doesnt matter, it was more to just support the question of who i'm trying to get familiar with controls and into games whereas if it was say my best mate or little brother i could easily just stick him in front of call of duty without fail and wait a week. I worded the title badly but i didnt literally expect games she would like purely because she is a female haha. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Shes said she'd love to get into games like Gears, and all the shooters etc, it's just the controls she's finding annoying to get used too, but we've got a good start

combustible lemon
Try Portal. Skill with the analogue sticks isn't really needed to excel at it and it's hard not to be sucked in by the writing and sense of mystery surrounding the game world. If your gf gets stuck then all she needs to do is look up a video and continue. It's also a short game that can be played in a couple of sittings so there is a nice sense of (almost) immediate accomplishment for a new gamer. If she likes it then get Portal 2, it has a co-op mode you can play together. Bioshock is also good, death doesn't have much of a penalty so she won't feel like rage quitting and that's a good experience for a new gamer (although it is darn creepy). Also the story, characters and world are utterly brilliant.
runswithscissors
I'm a girl and play the same games blokes do, but then I have been a gamer since about 8 and controls are 2nd nature now (almost 1st nature actually hahahaha) I would say something slowpaced if she needs to get used to the controls, so you can do it while your not been shot at or something lol
Hagane
From experience: Fallout 3/NV, fighters (seem to be the most enjoyable), Pokemon, MineCraft, even Mass Effect. Basically the games that don't really require too much experience to play at first, then they build up in action as the person playing learns more about the game. To an extent I would recommend COD, but it's really hit or miss depending if they like the FPS genre or not.
