Introduction:

Welcome to EA Sports UFC! This is EA’s first crack at the UFC franchise and their sophomore entrance into the MMA genre. For the new generation of console EA have completely overhauled the visuals making the fighters more lifelike than ever, the submission game has been overhauled to give it a more tactical feel as has the ground game. EA UFC is not without its flaws but overall it’s a solid first entrance in the franchise for EA and more importantly it’s a hell of a lot of fun to play.

Walkthrough:

Step One – Challenge Mode:

First off we are going to head straight into the challenge mode, there are a total of 90 training challenges spread over 3 separate categories.

  • Stand-up: 50 Challenges
  • Ground: 20 Challenges
  • Clinch: 20 Challenges

None of them are very difficult and will simply have you completing a series of drills to give you a better understanding of the three areas. This step is relatively painless and shouldn’t take much more than 45 minutes. Once you are done with all 90 challenges you will unlock There is no “Try” for 75:gsicon:.

Step Two – Play Now (Two Controllers):

This next step is entirely optional; there are a number of miscellaneous achievements that can be obtained using two controllers, they can also be obtained in any other mode if you would prefer or are unable to use this method. For expediency these 6 achievements can be broken down and earned in three quick fights.

Fight 1

  • The Art of Eight Limbs
  • You Got Somewhere to Be?
  • Stand and Bang

Fight 2

  • It’s Showtime!
  • A False Sense of Security

Fight 3

  • The Arm That Feeds

See the descriptions for The Art of Eight Limbs, It’s Showtime! and The Arm That Feeds for more detailed information. Grabbing these 6 achievements will net you another 225:gsicon:.

Step Three – Career

The bulk of the remaining achievements will be obtained from Career Mode, I recommend starting out on Pro and you will be grabbing all the career achievements in this playthrough. The reason I recommend starting out directly on Pro is because the one achievement that requires the Pro difficulty, Forefathers, will require you to fulfill almost all the other career achievements along the way. During this step you will unlock the following 14 achievements worth 370:gsicon:.

  • First Blood
  • Begin With The End In Mind
  • UFC Contract!
  • The Big Time
  • #1 Contender
  • Making Your Mark
  • Top of the Mountain
  • Do an AMA!
  • Fight of the Night
  • Submission of the Night
  • Knockout of the Night
  • The Prodigy
  • Forefathers
  • Gracie Pride

For the career achievement, Gracie Pride, you are required to submit 12 opponents in a row. While this is certainly doable on Pro by the time you are further into your career and have your submission skill maxed out, you may find it easier to do partial career playthrough on easy to obtain this.

Step Four – Online:

There are a total of 8 online achievements worth 245:gsicon:. The following 7 are obtained in Online Championship mode:

  • To The Top!
  • Ahead of the Class
  • Knockout Season
  • Submission Season
  • You Earned It
  • To The Wire
  • In the Spotlight

The remaining achievement, Friends or Foes?, is obtained in Rivalry Mode. See the achievement descriptions for more information.

Step Five – Mop Up:

There shouldn’t be too many things to mop up, if you somehow didn’t receive one of the Fight of the Night achievements in career you will have to start up a new one to try and pick them up. The miscellaneous achievements Iron Chin and Iron Heart should have come naturally throughout your career. The only other thing you may have outstanding is I’ll Stand, Thanks, this achievement is a little buggy. It’s not entirely clear which mode you have to do this in and you may find it is not unlocking even though you are fulfilling the requirements. My only advice is to attempt this in both career and online a few times and it should unlock.

Conclusion:

Overall, EA Sports UFC is a fun and enjoyable game that looks great and captures the grandeur of UFC events. The control scheme is ambitious and works relatively well in most situations. Achievements wise there are a couple of tough achievements but the majority of them are relatively painless. The only thing it fails to capture is the sense of excitement found in a real MMA bout. Regardless of that it is still a great game and a promising first effort by EA.

Begin With the End in Mind 5:gsicon:

In the Spotlight 5:gsicon:

Upload a Highlight Reel to FighterNet

ONLINE: To upload a highlight reel you first have to complete a fight in one of the online modes. After the fight you will see a small menu and one of the options will be to watch the fight highlights, hit this, when the highlights are over you will be asked if you want to upload them to FighterNet. Choose Yes and once the clip is uploaded the achievement will unlock.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/friendfoe.jpg

Friends or Foes? 5:gsicon:

Complete a Rivalry

ONLINE: To start a rivalry you need to have someone on your friends list that is playing the game. Go to the Rivalry section of the online menu, if you don’t see your friend in the list you may have to fight them in a quick match first for them to show up. A rivalry consists of a five fight season and the first to 8 points wins. Once you have completed your first rivalry season the achievement will unlock.

If you don’t have anyone on your friends list with the game you can look for players HERE.

To the Top! 10:gsicon:

Earn a promotion in Online Championships

ONLINE: Online Championships consist of 10 fight seasons. You earn 3 points for a KO or submission win, 2 points for a decision win and 1 point for a decision loss. You don’t lose any points for a loss. Each division has a set amount of points you need to attain to be promoted to the next division, or belt. For example to be promoted from the White Belt division to the Blue Belt division you have to finish the season with 8 or more points. Once the season is over if you have hit your target you will be promoted and the achievement will unlock.

UFC Contract! 10:gsicon:

Win The Ultimate Fighter in Career

You start your Career Mode run by fighting to enter The Ultimate Fighter. To unlock the achievement you will need to win four fights, a preliminary fight, a quarter final fight, a semi-final fight and the finale. Once you have won the fourth fight and earned the title of Ultimate Fighter the achievement will unlock. Don’t worry if you lose any of these fights, if you do you will be asked if you want to try again. Declining will obviously void the achievement.

For tips on winning these fights on Pro see Forefathers.

The Big Time 10:gsicon:

#1 Contender! 10:gsicon:

Fight for a title in Career

Again, as you play through your career and rack up those wins you will eventually be put into a number one contender fight, win the fight and the achievement will pop.

Iron Chin 10:gsicon:

Survive a stun state

A stun state is when the head of your avatar will flash red and you will be fighting to survive. The easiest way to survive a stun state is to quickly go for a takedown by holding http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png quarter circle. Even if your attempt fails you can go in for another one, repeat this until the stun state clears and the achievement will unlock. After you have survived the stun state if you can finish your opponent in the same round you will also unlock Iron Heart. Both of these achievements should come naturally at some point throughout your career.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ahead.png

Ahead of the Class 25:gsicon:

Earn an early promotion in Championships

ONLINE: To earn an early promotion in Championship Mode you need to win the title in your division before your 10th and final fight, this is easiest done in the White Belt division. You need 14 points to win the title at White Belt, which amounts to 5 stoppage wins. As a reminder you will receive 3 points for a stoppage win by either KO or submission and 2 points for a decision win. You will not lose any points for a loss. Once you have won the title the achievement will unlock.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/makemark.jpg

Making Your Mark 25:gsicon:

Win 5 Career fights in a row

To unlock this achievement you need to win five fights in a row whilst in the UFC, your fights in TUF will not count towards your total. After winning your fifth fight the achievement will unlock. For tips on easier ways to win on Pro see Forefathers.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/mountain.png

Top of the Mountain 25:gsicon:

Win a UFC title in Career

As you progress in your career you will eventually fight for the title, assuming you are performing well enough. This will be a tough fight and at times quite unfair, especially on Pro. By this point in your career you should have been able to build up all aspects of your fighter’s game, the easiest way to win this fight is to go after your opponent’s weakness. My title fight was against Carlos Condit, he has KO kick power and could fully damage any part of my body with a single kick, he could also stagger me in two shots. The weakest part of his game was his submissions, so I had to take him down and submit him. It may take you a few tries because the CPU can get some rather cheap wins. If you do lose you can pause, quit out to the gym and retry.

It’s Showtime! 25:gsicon:

KO an opponent via Cage Kick

For this achievement you can also use knee strikes off the cage which are much easier to land. You can obtain this in any mode but it is easier to pick it up in a Play Now fight using two controllers, you can also combine this with A False Sense of Security to unlock two achievements in one fight.

Start up a Play Now game on easy, 3 rounds and leave the accelerated clock on. Choose Anthony Pettis for yourself, he has an ability that grants him extra damage from cage strikes, pick anyone for the second controller. Cruise through the first couple of rounds doing some damage to your opponents head, you want it to be damaged but you don’t want to go too far and KO them. In the third round keep doing moderate damage to your opponent’s head, until there is around 1 minute on the clock. At this point grab your second controller move back until his back is against the cage. Continue to tee off with your first controller getting that head nice a red, when you get down to around 12 seconds on the clock hit your cage strike by holding the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ls.png towards your opponent and pressing http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/bbut.png. This will perform a flying knee off the cage and should KO your opponent, unlocking your two achievements. If it doesn’t you should have enough time to try and land one more.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/eightlimbs.png

The Art of Eight Limbs 25:gsicon:

Land a left and right punch, kick, knee, and elbow in the same round

This can be obtained in any mode, however there are some fighters that don't have all the available strikes in their arsenal, the best person to use for this is Jon Jones. Below is an easy method to obtain this, along with two other achievements, in a Play Now fight using two controllers.

Start a Play Now fight on easy and turn off the accelerated clock to give yourself a few extra seconds. Choose the LHW division and Jon Jones, make the second controller whoever you like. As soon as the fight begins you will need to land a left and right for all available strikes. That's a left and right punch, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/xbut.png & http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ybut.png, a left and right kick, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/Abut.png & http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/bbut.png, a left and right knee, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/Abut.png & http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/bbut.png and a left and right elbow, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/xbut.png & http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ybut.png. After landing all 8 strikes the achievement will unlock. Now quickly KO your opponent within the first 60 seconds and you will also unlock Stand and Bang and You Got Somewhere to Be?.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/Illstand.png

I'll Stand, Thanks 25:gsicon:

Stuff five or more takedowns in a single fight

To stuff a takedown you need hold http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rt.png and flick the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png down as your opponent grabs you. Stuff five or more takedowns in a single fight to unlock the achievement.

NOTE: this achievement is known to be bugged, it is not known which mode you need to be playing in and has been reported not to unlock immediately upon completion of the requirements.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/AMA.jpg

Do an AMA! 25:gsicon:

Gain 50,000 fans in Career

After each fight in your career you will obtain more fans, you should reach fifty thousand fans fairly quickly after your 5th or 6th fight.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/armfeed.png

The Arm That Feeds 25:gsicon:

Submit opponent in the first round via Armbar

This can be obtained in any mode but is easiest done in a Play Now fight with two controllers. Set up the match however you want but choose the women’s bantamweight division and more specifically Rhonda Rousey. Once the fight starts immediately go for a double leg takedown by holding http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.pngand moving the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png in a quarter circle clockwise from 9 - 12. This should land you inside your opponents guard, now you will need to transition to the full mount position. To initiate the armbar hold http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rb.png and move the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png in a half circle clockwise from 6 - 9. Complete the submission by flicking the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ls.png in the given direction to tighten the hold. Once the sub is complete and your opponent taps the achievement will unlock.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/fightnight.png

Fight of the Night 25:gsicon:

Win a Fight of the Night bonus in Career

The fight of the night award is the most difficult bonus to obtain during your career. The most consistent way to earn it is in a title defense, you need to make it exciting and let it go for a few rounds, a quick sub or KO is more likely to lead to a KO/Sub of the night bonus than a FotN. Try to mix up your attacks, be aggressive and go for the finish in the fourth or fifth round. If you have managed to put on the FotN the achievement will unlock at the event results screen post fight.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/subnight.jpg

Submission of the Night 25:gsicon:

Win a Performance of the Night by Submission

The submission of the night bonus is not too hard to receive but you are more likely to pick this up when fighting on the main card. If you have managed to pick up the SotN bonus the achievement will unlock at the event results screen post fight.

For some tips on submitting your opponent see the Submission Season description.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/konight.png

Knockout of the Night 25:gsicon:

Win a Performance of the Night by Knockout

The knockout of the night award is the easiest bonus to pick up and you should have no problem getting this once you start regularly fighting on the main card. If you have managed to pick up the KotN bonus the achievement will unlock at the event results screen post fight.

Gracie Pride 50:gsicon:

Earn 12 consecutive submission wins in Career

As you play through your career you should earn more than enough evolution points to max out your submission skills, once they are at 100 it becomes much easier to submit opponents. After you have submitted your 12th opponent the achievement will unlock in the results screen post fight.

For some general tips on getting submission wins please see Submission Season.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/koseason.png

Knockout Season 50:gsicon:

Finish an entire Championships Season by knocking out every opponent

ONLINE: This is easiest done in the White Belt division, here you only need to win 4 fights in a row to unlock the achievement. The quickest and easiest way to KO someone is to grab them in a Muay Thai plum clinch by holding http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rb.png and pushing http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png towards them, then repeatedly kneeing them in the head by holding back on the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ls.png and hitting http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/Abut.png / http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/bbut.png. Below is a list of the best fighter in each division to utilize this technique with:

  • HW: Cain Valesquez
  • LHW, MW: Jon Jones
  • WW,LW: Anthony Pettis
  • FW, BW, FLW: Jose Aldo
  • WBW: Cat Zingano

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/subseason.png

Submission Season 50:gsicon:

Finish an entire Championships Season by submitting every opponent

ONLINE: This achievement is easiest done in the White Belt division, here you only need to win 4 fights in a row to unlock the achievement. Below are some general tips to help you get submission wins followed by a list of the best submission fighters in each weight class.

  • Only attempt a submission when you have close to full stamina and your opponent’s stamina is low. If your stamina runs out during the submission it will automatically break and the lower your opponent’s stamina the slower his gates will fill. The best way to drain your opponent’s stamina is with body shots.

  • Only attempt a submission from top position if you already have the stamina advantage, in top position your stamina will drain much faster than your opponents. Conversely don’t be afraid to let your opponent take you down, you can conserve your stamina and attempt a submission from the bottom when theirs has drained.

  • The easiest submission to complete is the Kimura, every fighter has this submission available to them from dominant side control. The best way to get your opponent into a Kimura is to take them down using either a power takedown, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png quarter circle from 6 towards your opponent, or a single leg takedown, http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/lefttrig.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png quarter circle from 6 towards opponent, both of these will land you directly into side control. If you already have the stamina advantage you can attempt the submission immediately by holding http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rb.png + http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/rs.png quarter circle clockwise from 6 - 9.

  • Try to learn your opponent’s patterns with the gates on your first few attempts; it’s impossible for someone to be truly random so you should see some common directions being used. If they have one gate that is almost full, stay on that gate and let them go to another one, generally they will do your job for you by quickly moving back to the one you are already guarding because it would be their quickest way to escape.

  • Try not to flick the http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/ls.png in the wrong direction, this will auto complete a chunk of all 4 gates and more often than not automatically break them out of the submission.

  • HW: Fabricio Werdum
  • LHW, MW: Ronaldo Souza
  • WW, LW: Jose Aldo
  • BW, FW, FLW: Jose Aldo
  • WBW: Rhonda Rousey

The Prodigy 50:gsicon:

Complete Career with a win rate above 85%

Your career will automatically end after your 40th fight, so to unlock this achievement you need to have at least a 33-7 record. There is a chance that your career will also end early due to the amount of damage you have taken. I have never heard of a career ending before your 36th fight, in this case you would need to have at least a 31-5 record. The achievement will unlock after you have officially retired.

Forefathers 75:gsicon:

Get inducted to the Hall of Fame in Career on the hardest difficulty setting

At the end of your career, if you have a good enough record, you will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. There are no known requirements for entering the HoF at this time. To be safe I would recommend trying to hit at least the 33-7 record required for The Prodigy. I will update this area if any more information is released regarding the requirements. Below are some general tips to help you win throughout your Pro career.

  • I recommend creating a fighter that is striking orientated, specifically a kicking focused fighter like Muay Thai or Tae Kwan Do, and upgrading their kicking speed and power early. The easiest way to fight your way through TUF and the beginning of your career is to go for body shot TKO’s.

  • Once you have your kicking stats, or punching stats if you choose a boxer, work on your takedowns, takedown defense and limb submission skills next. You will inevitably come up against a striker who is better than you and this will give you another way to win the fight.

  • Purchase the spinning back body kick and the submissive side control to dominant side control moves as soon as you can. The spinning back body kick has good range and will hit fighters coming in for takedowns, superman punches or flying knees. The ground transition from submissive side mount to dominant is a must because 99% of the time any takedown the CPU lands on you will put them into side control, being able to reverse this is very handy. Other than that I don’t recommend purchasing any other moves until your stats are much higher.

  • If you are losing the fight or get finished you can pause and quit back to the gym to retry the fight if you want to.

  • Pay attention to the descriptions in your fight offers, you don’t have to win every single fight to obtain the career related achievements but some fights will be more important than others. Try to make sure you are winning the fights that matter.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/notry.png

There Is No "Try" 75:gsicon:

Complete all Training Challenges

There are a total of 90 training challenges split across three areas.

  • Stand Up: 50 challenges
  • Ground: 20 challenges
  • Clinch: 20 challenges

They are all fairly simple and just task you with completing various tasks within a time limit. You don’t have to achieve the maximum rank to complete the challenges. The achievement will unlock after completing the final challenge.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/earnedit.png

You Earned It 50:gsicon:

Earn promotion on the 10th fight of a Championships season

ONLINE: This achievement is not as hard as it sounds; although you will need to purposely take a couple of losses on the way to your 10th fight to make sure you are not passing the point limit for a promotion. The required number of points will vary depending on the division you are in. For example in the White Belt division you need 8 points to earn a promotion, you earn 3 points for a finish, 2 points for a decision win and 1 point for a decision loss. To earn your promotion in your 10th fight you will need to win 2 fights, lose your next 7 then win the 10th. If you fail to win in your 10th fight you will have to start over and set it up again. Once you have been promoted the achievement will unlock.

http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j401/markv1982/thewire.png

To the Wire 50:gsicon:

Avoid relegation on the 10th fight of a Championships season

ONLINE: This achievement is not as hard as it sounds; although you will need to purposely take a few of losses on the way to your 10th fight to make sure you are not passing the point limit for relegation. The required number of points will vary depending on the division you are in. For example in the Blue Belt division you need 8 points to avoid being relegated, you earn 3 points for a finish, 2 points for a decision win and 1 point for a decision loss. To avoid relegation in your 10th fight you will need to win 2 fights, lose your next 7 then win the 10th. If you fail to win in your 10th fight you will have to start over and set it up again. Once you have successfully avoided relegation the achievement will unlock.

"Knockout Season 50

Finish an entire Championships Season by knocking out every opponent"

You have it as holding back on the RS, should be LS.

Besides that great guide. If I come across anything in the game I'll be glad to help.

Ooops, I'll fix it later cheers.

EDIT: Fixed a couple things, seems you can't really get Iron Chin and Iron Heart in a play now fight, tried it multiple times and I couldn't rock the first controller it was just a flash KO every time so I took that out. They should come easily in career mode anyway. I think the guide is pretty much complete now so I hope it's useful for you guys. :)

Uh, I got both of those in Fight Now no problem.. lol so I don't know why they didn't work for you.

My first 4 achievements all popped in my very first match.

Stand and Bang

Iron Chin

Iron Heart

You Got Somewhere To Be?

The one achievement I'm having issues with is I'll Stand, Thanks... I've done it multiple times now and it's just not unlocking whatsoever.

Your account W Salvia, Second controller Jon Jones. I spammed Cage Kicks to Salvia's head. Eventually he stumbled and fell. Back to controller 1, got up and destroyed Jones for achievement. This was Play Now.

I have no idea, I tried pairing up different fighters, different weight classes, different difficulties, different kinds of strikes. Every fight ended with a flash KO so I thought it was best to just take it out until I can figure out a pairing that will work everytime.

@Mitch cage strikes might work but I don't think you could do that fast enough to get You Got Somewhere to Be? at the same time like I had it in the original description.

Quick question, I'm going for knockout season and submission season achievements and I was going to go for knockouts first being as how submissions are near impossible for me right now and once I get the 5 KO's in a row and upgrade the belt, is there anyway I can lose on purpose and downgrade back to white belt so I only need 5 submissions instead of 6?

I don't get it... I've gone into play now with 2 controllers and I went for the kick off the cage and armbar achievements, have succesfully did both and didn't unlock the achievement, talk about pissing me off... I've tried atleast 3 times now...

EDIT: OK I got the Armbar one finally, but I've done the showtime kick off the cage like 10 times now and it won't unlock...

EDIT 2: OK I finally got It's showtime. I read comments on TA and apparently the achievement doesn't unlock when you do the kick with the "A" button, you have to use the "B" button for it to unlock, sure enough first try it worked.

Yeah, just let them KO you, as long as you finish the season with less that 8 points you will be relegated to White Belt.

It says right there in the guide to use RB + B...

These online achievements are total bullshit.....winning five in a row isn't the end of the world, but specifying how? Grrrr.....

Then to top it off, you have to lose on ourpose to make it easier.

God I hate things like this. Just had four knockouts in a row. Fifth fight I floor the guy three times , but can't carry in fighting as tko don't count....he gets up, and one shots me with Velasquez. I've spent all day losing fights to get back to white.
