vSully
I've played about 15 minutes into Madness Returns. I've never played AM's Alice- do you recommend I start with the original game first?
LoIQ
I did & recommend doing so. You'll recognize characters and references you may not pick up on otherwise. And if you're going for achievement completion and therefore gonna play the original Alice anyway, they you definitely may as well play it first. AltruismIsDead
I agree, you can set the difficulty to easy and still get all the achievements. Also make sure you save frequently since some of the platforming is a pain.
Garlador
I concur. Playing the first is worth your time, and setting it to easy gets rid of (most of) the frustration. Still, save and save often, but the original game is still a fantastic game worth playing in its own right.
GrueTech
I would seriously recommend playing the original before jumping into Madness returns. The first one will help you understand why things are they way they are, just remember to save...ALOT!
Brad Woodburn
I think you should. It looks like a really coold twisted game so why not haha
Downsize
I rented this game actually....would you guys recommend Amreican McGee's? 10.00 bucks for 100 GS.....
Vandel Buster
If you're a completionist, or just want to fully understand things in Madness Returns, then yes. Play it first and purchase it for the 800 points.
Pharaoh Sauron
I purposefully played the original game first, and you should as well. It sets up the general plot for Madness, introduces the characters, and lets you fully appreciate the technical and gameplay advancements made in the eleven years since American Mcgee's Alice. Son of Kyuss
In addition to the post above, by playing Alice first you get to see Wonderland at it's darkest hour both literally and figuratively. It really helps put into contrast Alice's growth and relationship with Wonderland and how she's been coping since her family's demise.
Quickdraw
i thought it was good to do the story in order and i don't regret it. you do miss some key points if you don't. Only thing that can really kill you in alice is your poor platforming and auto saves are a bit dodgy at best. i kept saving after every few platforms. bosses need to know for some of them how to damage them. reaper527
i am playing the first game first. i am on the last few levels of the game, so i can't comment on how much it ties in with madness, but its definitely a good game. i've always been a fan of the saying "the beginning is a good place to start"
Quickdraw
i'm also disappointed that in madness returns lack boss fights compared to the first.

Quickdraw
How long is The ALICE DLC? depends on setting, i did it on the easier setting and i think it took me around 5/6hrs, hardest thing is retracing steps due to platforming deaths and some annoying boss deaths, but if you watch a vid for a tip of what weapon its easy. Quickdraw
is there a weapon you would recommend using through out the game? i used the ice wand pretty much 60% of the game, 30% being the crochet mallet 10% being the jaberwok staff which is op for the final boss. Restricted-Access
How come there aren't any threads "stickied" in this forum, yet? This thread should be one of them, since there are over 900 views (as of this moment). I think it's a question MANY people would want to know, coming to the game for the first time. I played the entire "Alice" game, first. I'm glad I did, not only to reacquaint myself with the game again (I have "Alice" on the PC), but for the fact that movement through the second game is far-improved over the original. Also, once you get used to what you can do in Alice: Madness Returns... you'll probably find yourself falling off of a cliff in the first game, because you thought you could reach the other side (sorry... no multi-jumps in the original Alice)! Play the first game, get acquainted with the characters (don't get attached to them... you might cry alongside Alice), then see how your character (Alice) feels about them in the sequel! marionette kun
What weapon? I found that once you get the jacks you would be set for the rest of the game except some bosses.
