The missing place entry is Hell, obviously, though I cannot personally confirm myself yet.

Entry 41 on monsters is the Alien Queen, that is a fact.

The mastermind of the alien invasion. She has incredible psychic powers.

48 may or may not be Anubis II (uncomfirmed)

as far as items, the necronomicon is most likely entry 32? again, cannot confirm.

and concerning traps, i'm still wondering about entry 13 myself! has anyone been squished by the drawbridge in the haunted castle? perhaps that could be it

I assume Old Bitey is the giant fish that's in the lake during the "rushing water" event - how do you kill that guy? I suck at anything underwater in this game.

It seems, to me at least, a lot easier in the PC version.

Basically, you'll get the journal entry if you allow IT to kill you, though you risk the death-blow being struck by a regular piranha in that case.

In order to KILL Ol' Bitey, however, you're probably going to want to bring a jetpack and a shotgun, your two best friends in almost any situation. At LEAST a shotgun, if nothing else. A few direct blasts should do it. Do try to avoid being in the water the entire fight, dodging around on any available land can and should improve your odds for survival.

[spoilerS MAYBE?]

Enemy #48 I can confirm is Anubis II - 'The second incarnation of Anubis. He'll do anything to protect the treasures of the underworld.'

Item # 32 is the Book of the Dead - 'Guarded by Anubis II in the City of Gold. It opens the entrance to the underworld.'

I'm guessing you find the plasma cannon in the Mothership area? I've barely been in there at all.

I'm almost 100% positive that all other missing entries are all to do with the final area of the game.

The Book of the Dead blinks faster when you are directly above the door to hell when fighting Olmec. Unfortunately I was fragged instinatly by brushing into the lower corner of him while trying to get him to dig down. Back to the drawing board!

After winning Hell, I have everything in the Journal except the final item. No clue what it might be!

Places Entry 5: Hell (duh)

Monsters Entry 48: Anubis II

Monsters Entry 50: Vlad (uber-vampire found in a tower in 5-1)

Monsters Entry 51: Imp (little flying red devils, not too dangerous)

Monsters Entry 52: Devil (blue devils; I think they hurt you if you jump on their head)

Monsters Entry 53: Succubus (female demons that look like Damsels until you get close)

Monsters Entry 54: Horse Head (appears to your left at the final boss)

Monsters Entry 55: Ox Face (appears to your right at the final boss)

Monsters Entry 56: King Yama (final boss)

Items Entry 32: Book of the Dead (in City of Gold)

Items Entry 33: Vlad's Cape (dropped by Vlad, lets you flap once but not as useful as a jetpack)

Items Entry 34: ????? (Still no clue!)

Traps Entry 13: Spike Ball (rotating ball & chain, similar to Super Mario. Destroy one with a bomb to enter it in your journal)

Things I haven't tried that might have something to do with the final item:

- Shooting Olmec with the Plasma Cannon

- Wearing Vlad's Cape then approaching a Succubus

- Winning the game wearing Vlad's Cape

- Hell, anything else with Vlad's Cape. :)

Hate you for getting there before me, but congratulations all the same.

Thanks also for confirming the final character for me on TA.

@ Banditbanks - the Plasma Cannon is indeed found on the mothership, it drops when you slay the Alien Queen.

WARNING: DO NOT FIRE THE PLASMA CANNON WHILE JETPACKING AGAINST THE CEILING. The projectiles sort of wobble a bit, and explode on impact. I found out the hard way one playthrough the damn thing blows you up if you shoot it while hovering against a ceiling.

@ Spock - All eight characters have been found / confirmed! I know this is a journal guide, but perhaps you'd care to link to / re-write the list?

It's here - ALL EIGHT CHARACTERS

EDIT: I'd be more than happy to help you write any of this up, by the way. That's including how-to's or details on the rarer items or harder-to-get-to places. In fact, I've volunteered to write up the walkthrough on TA, I'd be really happy if I had your permission to copy-pasta your data so far. Credit will obviously be given.

Sure, anything you can help with would be great. Info on where to find these would be useful, and you could create a thread with the character locations if you want. That way I can just link to it in the achievement guide I'm working on.

I'm taking so long to do that because I just found out two days ago I was accepted into an online English course, so I'm pretty busy.

Lovely! As soon as I get the go-ahead on TA I'll do a full write up; when I'm not playing spelunky I'm thinking spelunky lately so it should be done as fast as I can write it up. At which point you're absolutely welcome to borrow from it as much as needed, since you're so busy! (x

+did you mean info on where to find ze characters, or were you referring to something else? I'll take your advice and go put up a character thread now, either way.

small edit: could you possibly credit me as Stiqe rather than stiqetastic? it's my preferred screenname.

boop I'm a different person now. my own fault for being dumb when initially logging into x360a, I was in a rush to contribute and didn't bother checking if i had an account already.

trying to figure out how to go about deleting +tastic, but I'm not sure if it's possible after a quick search. P:

was going through the PC wiki once again trying to find anything helpful that's still applicable and found an interesting tidbit you may want to note eventually: The Hedjet by itself will apparently allow you to see without a torch on dark levels and prevents the spawn of the Ghost. Will test this on the 360 as soon as ze girlfriend stops playing red dead, haha.

edit: ooh, i forgot all about using the pitcher's mitt to throw arrows at walls! in the pc version this would make them stick, allowing you to grab onto them like ledges. A secondary effect is that if you throw an item that would hit the Spelunker on the rebound, he'll catch it, causing no harm to himself.

another thing I'll go and check as soon as I can. P:

The Hedjet definitely doesn't stop the ghost from spawning on the XBLA version. (In particular, you'll have to dodge the ghost if you want to spend a while blowing up the City of Gold!) I can't recall if I've gotten a dark level while wearing the Hedjet or not.

On the plus side, it's easier to get the Hedjet; as far as I can tell, dying anywhere in any way on the Moai level will spawn you inside it. Even blowing yourself up or falling off the bottom of the level work.

For the final item, maybe it's character specific? I was thinking that since you unlock the vampire hunter guy by going to one "haunted tower," using him in the other and killing Vlad might yield something? Probably not.

It's possible. Identifying this final item is officially the last thing I need to do in the game, so I'm going to make a few more Hell runs to see what I can uncover. I searched Yama's room pretty thoroughly after killing him, so it must just be hidden somewhere in the normal Hell levels. I hope!

Ok, I found the final item. I just missed something silly. :) In Vlad's tower, "Vlad's Amulet" is hidden in one of the walls. It's a gold amulet with a large circular red jewel. It protects you from fire, which is awesome! Magma men walk right through you, and you can even walk around in lava unharmed. (I never would have dared to try if I didn't already have Hell finished...) One of the final boss's main attacks is throwing Magma Men at you, so it's great for fighting him.

Edit: Yep, BanditBanks, that was it. Thanks!

Bummer that it doesn't prevent the ghost, are you sure you don't lose the hedjet when you enter the city of gold though? I can't recall if you do or don't, I thought you lost the scepter at least?

Either way, it's good to know that about the Maoi, used to be you had to be within a certain proximity! (can't tell you how many times I accidentally blew myself up with too much health, survived the blast and fell to my death without accessing the maoi upon revive in the PC version!)

A few things in your journal could stand to be clarified or corrected, Spock. Hope you don't think I'm just being nitpicky, but here's what I noticed.

(changes in red)

Entry 06 - Haunted Castle

~ Location: Access through Jungle during Restless Dead event

~ Tips: The entrance is located two blocks beneath the skull wearing a crown, under a grave also bearing a crown.

Entry 07 - Black Market

~ Location: Access through Jungle

~ Tips: The Udjat Eye will reveal it's location while exploring the Jungle by flashing; the closer you are to the entrance the quicker it'll flash!

Entry 08 - Worm

~ Location: Access through Jungle or Ice Caves

~ Tips: Locate the worm-tongue, always in the first area. It's a sweating orange spiked ball, hard to miss. Grab a damsel, jump on the ball so you stick, then throw the damsel so she sticks. Wait a bit and the worm will come swallow you. (damsels need not be alive)

Entry 09 - Mothership

~ Location: Access through Ice Caves

~ Tips: You'll need a method of climbing straight up to get in, the entrance will be at the top of a vertical shaft on either the top right or left of 3-4.

Entry 10 - Damsel

~ Location: Common

~ Tips: Rescue these by bringing them to the exit for +1 heart! You can also sacrifice them to Kali, and in a pinch they make great meatshields!

Entry 12 - Tunnel Man

~ Location: In between levels - digs shortcuts

~ Tips: Will ask for first bombs, then rope, and lastly a unique item for each shortcut. Come prepared!

Entry 13 - Scarab

~ Location: In dark stages

~ Tips: They glow bright in the dark, nabbing one will net you 5000 gold!

Entry 16 - Fire Frog

~ Location: Jungle

~ Tips: Will explode upon death after a few seconds.

Entry 17 - Giant Frog

~ Location: Jungle

~Tips: Use a bomb to blow it up, or spiked shoes will allow jump-damage. Spits out normal frogs every few seconds.

Sidenote: It's actually stupidly easy to stand there and just whip these guys to death, your whip will kill the frogs as they spawn and since he won't jump at you if he's close enough, it's a freakin' cakewalk.

Entry 18 - Mantrap

~ Location: Jungle

~ Tips: Do not touch! These will eat you and anything else they encounter whole.

Entry 19 - Piranha

~ Location: Jungle

~ Tips: Easy to avoid if you're not in the water long. Alternatively, you can drain the water with a bomb to kill these.

Entry 20 - Old Bitey

~ Location: Jungle, only when "You hear rushing water..." event is active. Will be in the lake below the exit.

Entry 22 - Queen Bee

~ Location: Jungle, spawns in honeycomb areas

~ Tips: Immune to headjump damage without spiked-shoes. One bomb will destroy it, drops Royal Jelly (+4 hearts)

Entry 23 - Snail

~ Location: Jungle

~ Tips: Avoid their noxious bubbles!

Entry 25 - Golden Monkey

~ Location: Requires a level with both an idol and an altar.

~ Tips: Sacrifice a golden idol at an altar to receive one! Poops money but only lasts for that level.

Entry 28 - Black Knight

~ Location: Haunted Castle

~ Tips: His shield will reflect bullets, shoot him in the back!

Again, my goal is not to offend, just to help out. If you'd like me to write up more of these for ya I'd be happy to, just say the word.

And yes, I DO realize it's heavily a work in progress at the moment. Again, sorry if I'm coming across as nitpicky here P:

Edit: Oh, perhaps you should list "sometimes/rarely inside pots" on location for some of the monsters as well? So far I've come across snakes, spiders, scorpions, and ONCE an alien inside pottery. (in the mines, believe it or not!)

I'm sure. I've seen the ghost on the Ice Caves level after getting the Hedjet, too. (I remember being pretty surprised.)
