AUTHOR'S NOTE:

This is my very first achievement guide. I have done other guides for X360A, but this is my first attempt at doing a achievement guide. It may seem smaller or less detailed due to this reason, so before users come in here and decide to destroy my life, make sure you understand where I'm coming from first. Thanks!

Introduction:

Welcome to El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron! This game has 50 achievements for a total of 1000:gsicon:. The game is a hack and slash made by Ignition Entertainment that follows the priest Enoch as he is sent by God to return seven fallen angels or else the Earth will be covered by a great flood, destroying all of mankind. Enoch is assisted in his journey by Lucifel, the guardian angel who is sworn to protect Earth, no matter the cost. Enoch also has the company of four Archangels: Raphael, Uriel, Gabriel, and Michael who guide him around the depths of Heaven in search of these fallen angels. Enoch also uses different weapons on his journey, such as the Arch, the Gale, and the Veil, each of which has a different play style.

Breakdown:

Step 1: Easy Difficulty Playthrough

At the beginning of the game, you will only have access to Easy and Normal. There are two other difficulties (Hard and Extra) that are unlocked after beating the game. Go ahead and play on Easy and make sure to get all the Bones of Ishtar on this playthrough (Refer to I Will Mourn You for locations) in order to get the Special armor after beating the game. You take no damage at all wearing this, making Extra difficulty a cake walk. Note though that you'll be unable to beat a higher score than S while doing Score Ranking. In this playthrough, you will be guaranteed to get all 12 Story achievements, Angels, What's Yours Is Mine, Pushing the Limit, Benevolent Missionary, and Quite a Find. You should just try to enjoy this playthrough and not bother with Living Miracle, but it you feel up to it, you can attempt to get it, but remember that you are only able to recover about 4-5 times per chapter before you get a Game Over. (On Easy, at least)

Step 2: Extra Difficulty

Now that you have beaten the game on Easy, you will unlock Hard and Extra as well as Score Ranking Mode. Now select Extra Difficulty for this one and go through the game again. After beating Chapter 1, you will get Battle for Honor. As stated earlier, you should've gone for I Will Mourn You in your last playthrough, so you can use the Special armor. Use it on this playthrough, so you will have no troubles at all and once you finish you will receive Seraphim, Dominions, Principalities, and possibly Benevolent Savior.

Step 3: Hard Difficulty + Score Ranking

Now this is the part where the game gets interesting. Score Ranking Mode grades you on how many enemies you kill, how fast you beat the chapter, and several other things. Playing on Hard and trying to get G Ranking is somewhat of a challenge. You will have to make sure you keep combos up, always purify your weapon, take down many of the mini-bosses, find any secrets in the chapters, and beat it as fast as possible if you want to see that giant G at the stat screens. If you are up to the test and finish this though, you can say hello to the two scoring achievement Adept and Conqueror.

Step 4: Mop-Up

At this point, you should have about 24 achievements for 550:gsicon:. Since El Shaddai has a chapter select feature, you can go back to any chapter of the game in order to get the remaining achievements you are missing. The achievements you can go for now are:

-Living Miracle

-Time In The Spotlight

-I'll take the best you have.

-I Will Mourn You

-Out of Control

-Counterstrike Artist

-Good Listener

-Escape From The Darkness

-My Acrobatic Friend

-Hunter-Gatherer

-Indomitable Soul

-A Reliable Friend

-No Problem

-The armor okay? If not, I could...

-Martial Arts Master

-Rest in Peace

-The name is too long

-Show No Mercy

-Arch Master

-Gale Master

-Veil Master

-I'm Not Afraid of Watcher 1

-I'm Not Afraid of Watcher 2

-I'm Not Afraid of Watcher 3

-I'm Not Afraid of Watcher 4

-Lord of the Metatron

Conclusion:

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a unique take on the hack and slash genre with amazing visuals and enjoyable gameplay. Like with most hack and slashes though, this game takes awhile to master and you will be playing it for quite some time in order to get 1000:gsicon:. With 4 difficulties and a Score Attack mode with leaderboards, there is plenty to do in this game. If you need help on certain achievements or just want some strategies to beat some of the tough areas of the game, look through the achievement guide below for the specific ones you need. Now get your angel weapons and get ready to take down those fallen angels once and for all!

Finish all chapters at the EXTRA difficulty level.

Beating the game in Extra difficulty to get this achievement. Extra is unlocked after beating the game one time. This is basically Very Hard mode as you die in two hits, take longer to kill enemies, and it is harder to recover. You're going to need some skill to take this one on. A easier path to handling this is to obtain the Special armor by getting all the Bones of Ishtar (Refer to I Will Mourn You for more info). This armor allows you to take no damage, making this extreme difficulty easier than....well Easy. The armor isn't available during Chapters 6, 8, & 9 though due to story reasons, so you'll need to be ready to hold your own.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/+IGxKg==.jpgAngels - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Finish all chapters at the EASY difficulty level.

One of the first difficulties you have, along with Normal. Playing on Easy and getting the feel and controls of the game is what I would recommend, so go with this difficulty first. You kill enemies faster, can recover around 6-7 times per chapter, and take less damage.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/+qC4nw==.jpgPrincipalities - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Finish all chapters at the NORMAL difficulty level.

Normal is the other difficulty you can start on. It isn't really much of a hard time, although you may get a few game overs on bosses the first time around. Enemies are average, you can recover around 4-5 times per chapter, and you take average damage.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-s-OT4=.jpgDominions - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Finish all chapters at the HARD difficulty level.

Hard is unlocked after beating the game. This difficulty is a step up from Normal obviously, but I recommend playing it on Score Ranking as well to go for Conqueror. Enemies take much more punishment, you can recover about 3-4 times per chapter, and you take more damage than on Normal.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-1cI+E=.jpgBenevolent Missionary - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat more than 500 enemies.

Simply kill all the enemies in the game you come across. Normally you can't run away from a fight with the standard enemies, but there are also weaker enemies that normally die in one hit that count for this achievement as well. You should get this by Chapter 9 on your first playthrough.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-99KlQ=.jpgBenevolent Savior - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat more than 1000 enemies.

Once again, whenever you see an enemy, kill it. This one is double the first kill achievement, so just kill 500 more enemies and there you go. Should get this on your second or third playthrough.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5--X6oc=.jpgLiving Miracle - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Finish all chapters without a single Game Over.

There are two different things that can happen in this game after you are beaten in battle. You can attempt to recover by mashing the :abut:+:xbut:+:lbbut:+:rbbut: all at the same time and you'll return to battle with a fresh suit of armor right where you left off or if you don't recover in time, you will get a game over and have to restart from a checkpoint. This achievement requires you to never get a game over. You can recover about 4-5 times per chapter, so be sure to save at Lucifel as much as possible. If you end up getting a game over, quit to the main menu and reset from a save. Doing this on Easy or Normal seems like the best plan. If you want to do this the cheap way, get the Special armor from obtaining all Bones of Ishtar. If you can't take damage, you can't get Game Overs. Armor isn't available during Chapter 6, 8, & 9, so you'll have to be careful during those.

Earn a G rank in every chapter at the EASY difficulty level.

After beating the game once, you will unlock Score Ranking mode. This grades you on several different aspects and will give you a ranking. This achievement requires you to get G ranks (The highest) on all the chapters on Easy. If playing on Hard, you will get this achievement along with Conqueror. Be sure to keep combos going, always purify your weapon, smash objects, find Freemen and/or Bones of Ishtar, and finish the chapter as fast as possible in order to get a G rank.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-5CCEY=.jpgConqueror - 90 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Earn a G rank in every chapter at the HARD difficulty level.

After beating the game once, you will unlock Score Ranking mode. This grades you on several different aspects and will give you a ranking. This achievement requires you to get G ranks (The highest) on all the chapters on Hard. If you haven't gotten G ranks on Easy, you will unlock Adept as well when going for this. Be sure to keep combos going, always purify your weapon, smash objects, find Freemen and/or Bones of Ishtar, and finish the chapter as fast as possible in order to get a G rank.

Earn all of the Achievements.

Simple, get all of the achievements in the game. Once you get your 49th achievement, this will pop along with it and you will have 100%.

Defeat 50 enemies during Armaros show.

Your chance for this achievement is near the end of Chapter 7. You will meet Armaros and he will start up some weird dance party. While he is dancing in the center of the level, several weak enemies will start arriving and dancing as well. Just start hacking away at them as fast as you can before Armaros is done dancing. One of the last things he does is runs up directly to the screen and dances in front of, somewhat preventing you of seeing what you are hitting. If you manage to kill 50 enemies before the scene is up, the achievement will pop.

Here is a video of the fight:

Take every weapons from all of the enemies and finish Chapter 10.

You start Chapter 10 without any weapons at all. In order to get this achievement, you need to steal EVERY possible weapons from enemies. At first, I thought the achievement just meant take each of the three weapons and that's it, but no. You might steal every weapon in Chapter 10 in order to get this achievement. The achievement will pop right after you get My Beautiful Children...

Acquire all the Pearls from the servant beasts.

This achievement is for using all three weapons: the Arch, Gale, and Veil. The last one you get is the Veil during Chapter 3. After grabbing the Veil off of the enemy, the achievement will pop.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-keMIs=.jpgI Will Mourn You - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Obtain all entries in the Prophecies of Ishtar.

Throughout the game, you will find portals to the Darkness Stages. In each, you have to climb up to the top and avoid the darkness slowly rising below you. There is a Bone of Ishtar in each of the stages and for this achievement you must find all of them.

Here is a list of location of the Darkness portals:

Chapter 02

Shortly after you first gain use of the Gale, you'll come across a series of spinning platforms. To the right of one is another stationary platform in the distance. Time your jump and use the Gale to air-dash to the other side. It is on this platform.

Chapter 03

After your encounter with Sariel, hop onto the roof of the next hallway. Travel down this path for a bit until you come across the portal.

Chapter 04

This portal is located on the lower end of the platform that houses the final Lucifel save point of the chapter.

Chapter 05

Immediately after you encounter Ezekiel, circle the stone structure until you spot the darkness portal.

Chapter 07

Immediately after the cut scene where Enoch spots the little girl for the first time, navigate up the cliffs to your left. The portal is on top of the hill.

Chapter 10

Just before you reach the boss chamber, Enoch is tasked with traversing a chasm via a moving bridge. Mount the platform that heads to the left and ride it to the landing. The Ishtar portal sits on this island.

After getting all 6 of the Bones of Ishtar, you will unlock the Special armor for a new playthrough. Will this armor on, you don't take damage, making the game simple. The only con to this is that you can't get higher than a S rank on chapters (Like using Unlimited Devil Trigger mode in DMC).

Finish Chapter 08 without dying.

Chapter 8 is a giant platforming section, there are a few weak enemies around, but other than that it is just straight up jumping from platform to platform. Just be careful with your jumps and save at Lucifel as much as possible, just in case you die and need to restart from a save. A single fall will count as dying.

Break 500 destroyable objects.

Throughout the game, there are objects you can smash. Pots, Statues, Plants, and other things normally found on the sides of the areas. Just break all the ones you see and you should get this by the end of Chapter 10.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1467/5-xaPlo=.jpgCounterstrike Artist - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Execute 100 Perfect Guards.

A perfect guard is done by holding :rbbut: right as a attack hits you. You will be able to tell it is a perfect guard as the animation is more drawn out and the clash flashes more. A good way to boost this out is to keep a Gale enemy alive and have it constantly shoot at you. Each time it shoots, you will be able to perfect guard 2 of the 4 shots. Just keep doing this and you'll eventually get it.

Obtain all of the Freemen's Notes.

Throughout the game, there are Freemen that will give you notes about the fallen angels and what they are planning. They are normally found on the sides of areas and will be kneeling down. Go up to one and he will hand you the note. Guide can be found HERE.

Finish the Darkness stage.

You will find portals during the game that will lead you to Darkness Stages. You must climb up the room and evade the darkness that is following you. Once you get to the top, run to the middle of the room and grab Ishtar's hand. The first portal you can find is in Chapter 2. There are a total of 6 in the game.

Take 100 weapons from enemies.

After beating up a enemy enough, they will drop down to their knees and a blue circle will appear around them. Run up to them and press :lbbut: and you will steal their weapon away. Do this 100 times and you'll get the achievement.

After you are beaten in battle, the screen will slowly fade as if a person's eyes are closing. If you hit :abut:+:xbut:+:lbbut:+:rbbut: very fast, you will recover and be able to fight again from where you left off. You are only able to recover a certain amount of times per chapter (It varies on what difficulty you are playing on). Do this 50 times and you'll get the achievement.

Launch an Overboost.

You'll first learn this ability during the fight with Nether Sariel. When you have a red aura following you, press :lbbut:+:rbbut: at the same time and you will go into Overboost mode. Your attacks are stronger during this mode and when you press :lbbut:+:rbbut: again during the mode, you will do a Boost Skill that does massive amounts of damage.

Raise your boost level to 10.

By collecting the Flames of Power (Redish orange orbs you get from breaking things), you are boosting your Overboost level, allowing you to stay in it for longer periods of time. Keep on collecting the Flames of Power until you hit level 10. You can check what level you are currently at by hitting :back: and looking in the bottom right.

Finish any chapter without collecting any armor-recovery items.

Armor-Recovery items are the little silver hearts that you find from breaking things and that are also scattered around areas at times. Just don't break anything in a chapter and don't pick up any of the items that are on the map and you should get this.

For No Problem, play chapter 1 and don't break anything. There is only one health pickup to avoid; during the jumping sequence as you cross to the waterfall. Land on the near side of the center platform to avoid the pickup. I would also avoid the freeman later in the level unless someone can confirm that the health he gives you doesn't count

Finish Chapter 10 without taking any weapons from enemies.

You start Chapter 10 without any weapons, for this achievement you need to stay that way for the entire chapter. Just use your bare hands combat to fight the first enemies until you get to a Weapon Wisp. You can take the weapons from Wisp, just not the enemies. Finish the chapter without doing so and you'll get the achievement.

Defeat 100 enemies with bare hands

If you don't have a weapon, you are able to fight bare handed. You aren't as strong when doing so though, so it may take longer than using weapons. A easy way to get this is during Chapter 8. You have no weapons for the entire chapter and all the enemies go down in a few punches. Just keep replaying the chapter until you get it.

Defeat 50 of Souls of the Beloved

Souls of the Beloved are the ghosts that possess you and you have to shake off by hitting :abut:+:xbut:+:lbbut:+:rbbut:. Just kill 50 of them and you'll get the achievement. They mostly appear during Chapter 3 and 4.

If you end up knocked out, don't recover and just let yourself die. Once you get his pattern down, this should be a really easy fight. Be sure to use your new Overboost mode as well!

Execute 100 Guard Breaks.

A guard break occurs when a enemy has blocked one of your attack, you wait 1 second, and then attack again. If done correctly, you will do a special animation where you break their guard. It is kinda hard to pull off, but once you get the timing down it gets easier. You can also break guards just by beating up on the enemy enough while they are blocking. Do this 100 times and the achievement is yours.

Have your weapon destroyed.

You are almost guaranteed to get this during your playthrough. I've never had my weapon break during fights with regular enemies, but during boss fights you will have your weapon broken many times. I got is during the fight with Watcher Azazel in Chapter 2 where it doesn't matter if you beat him or not. He hit me with his beam attack and my weapon broke instantly.

Collect the Eyes of Truth.

You get the Eyes of Truth near the end of Chapter 3, allowing you to see your status over another enemy judged by a halo over their head. If it's red, it means they are stronger. If it's blue, you are stronger. And if it's purple, you are evenly matched. You can change the colors depending on what weapon you are using as some weapons are stronger against certain enemies.

Defeat 300 enemies with Arch.

Just kill 300 enemies with the Arch. This is the sword type weapon. It is weak against Gale users, but strong against Veil users. It's :rbbut:+:abut: special is to launch into the air. You can also hold :abut: in the air when using the Arch to stay airborne for a short amount of time. It is the balanced of the three weapons, fast moving and decent damage dealing.

Defeat 300 enemies with Veil.

Just kill 300 enemies with the Veil. This is the fist type weapon. It is weak against Arch users, but strong against Gale users. It's :rbbut:+:abut: special is a shield charge. The Veil is the slowest of the three weapons, but also packs the most punch.

Defeat 300 enemies with Gale.

Just kill 300 enemies with the Gale. This is the projectile type weapon. It is weak against Veil users, but strong against Arch users. It's :rbbut:+:abut: special is to do a Air Dash, very useful of getting out of harm's way. The Gale has the longest range of the three, but each takes longer to kills enemies with.

Defeat Dark Armaros without executing a recover.

Right after beating Nether Azazel, you will fight Dark Armaros. Here is a video showing the fight and all of his moves.

If you end up knocked out, don't recover and just let yourself die. Once you get his pattern down, you should be able to beat him without dying once. Be sure to use Overboost as well! I recommend saving it until his third form. Also, avoid his giant laser at all cost. It can be a game changer if you are hit by it. Make sure to double jump over it once it gets near you.

You don't have to be on Normal for the first playthrough; finishing on Easy will also open up the harder difficulty levels, so that would make more sense.

It should be noted that once all of the fragments of Ishtar are found and you have beat the game once, you unlock a special costume allowing you to nullify all damage and apparently have attacks with uriel's fire without using overboost. So I would recommend beating the game on easy, grabbing all fragments of Ishtar then jump to 'extra' difficulty with the special costume in use. The achievements from what I can tell still unlock with the costume, you just don't receive a score at all for your trouble. It'll make defeating the watchers 1 - 4 achievements all the easier and it'll make that ridiculous difficulty a cake walk.

You still get score at the end of missions when you have the Special outfit equipped, you just don't get score during the mission for breaking stuff, killing enemies, etc. You'll still get the Time and Special score at the end. I was S ranking missions on Extra even with 0 as my mission score!

Speaking of scores, we need to come up with a 100% tried and true method of getting G ranks on missions. I only have one G rank and the rest of them are S ranks. Let's get to work, people!

I guess it should've been slightly obvious given how three of the chapters play out but I was hoping the costume's effect would still apply. Without giving anything away during chapters 6, 8 & 9 the special costume's ability no longer applies and all damage being dealt reverts back to normal for the difficulty; 2 hit kills. As a result it'll still require some considerable skill to get through the bosses in chapters 8 & 9. Chapter 6 is only affected during the bulk of the chapter which isn't as much of an issue since you can take more damage during that chapter and it's flooded with armor recovery hearts anyway. At the end of which, the damage is nullified again during the chapter 6 boss battle.

Addendum: The special costume's ability works again for the final chapter 9 boss battle.

I'm currently on my Easy playthrough and I'm pretty sure I've missed the bone in Chapter 2, can I go back and get it after beating Easy and still unlock the armor?

After beating the game you can go back and replay any chapter on any difficulty you want. So no worries :woop:.

I am on my EXTRA Playthrough and just beat Dark Enoch in Chapter 8.

Now I'm at Chapter 9 and have to fight against Sariel, but cant beat him.

Which methods did you use to make him die?

Did you collect the Bones of Ishtar on your first playthrough ? If so, you could use the Special Armor, which nearly makes you invincible during battles.

I attempted to find the bone of ishtar by following this: (After your encounter with Sariel, hop onto the roof of the next hallway. Travel down this path for a bit until you come across the portal.)

When I did this I only found a freeman note and a dead end any advice?

Chapter 03, right ? Please try to follow this :

After your brief encounter with Sariel, make your way across the appearing blocks until you reach the next section of walkway. You will notice an overhang above your head that forms the ceiling. You can jump up onto this, then follow its curve to the Underworld door.

About the Freeman you met : same method, but different place. :)

I thinking of picking up this game, possibly sometime in the next month if it comes down to 40 bucks or so. Honestly, how hard are the achievements, esp. the score trial ones? I played Bayonetta and had moderate success (not hugely skilled in those games). Im going to download the demo, which I saw something about on here to see for myself but any advice?

I 1000'd Bayonetta with ease (Mostly because I really like the DMC games and Bayonetta was basically a spiritual successor to them), but I gave up on El Shaddai at about 550 GS because I didn't really enjoy it as much and I got bored of trying to get G ranks.
