Introduction

Welcome back, Spartans. In Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s latest Title Update, 343 Industries has showered us with fifty new achievements for a total of five-hundred gamerscore. This new list covers the basics of the newly implemented Spartan Ops Mode for Halo 4, as well as introducing some epic (or not-so epic) multiplayer milestone achievements and smaller miscellaneous tasks. Most of the new achievements can actually be obtained offline and solo, though nine of the multiplayer achievements will require an online connection for matchmaking. Additionally, all twelve of the Multiplayer achievements are retroactive, so any progress you already had for them will be tracked (some players are not receiving their retroactive tracking correctly). Get ready to score several thousand headshots, amass a variety of grindy multiplayer medals, and complete Spartan Ops on the Legendary difficulty. Since this list covers such tedious multiplayer tasks, it may take more than one hundred hours of gameplay to nab all fifty achievements.

Spartan Ops

Halo 4’s Spartan Ops Mode makes a return in Halo: The Master Chief Collection and brings with it a total of twenty-one achievements. For those who have played through the original Halo 4, these achievements will be very familiar. For the newcomers, it’s best to mention that Spartan Ops is a cooperatively driven mission-based mode that allows parties of up to four players to partake in Crimson Team’s adventures as the Spartan IV’s deal with Covenant and Promethean threats after the events of the Halo 4 Campaign. There are a total of ten Episodes in Spartan Ops, each of which contain five Chapters.

Your first Spartan Ops achievement will be earned for completing any of the Chapters, while another eleven achievements are earned for completing all ten Episodes. Additionally, there are four difficulty-related completion achievements for completing the entirety of Spartan Ops on Normal, Heroic, Legendary, and Solo Legendary. There are also three Chapter-specific achievements in Spartans Ops that are best done with cooperative partners. Lastly, there are two miscellaneous achievements to be obtained in Spartan Ops, one of which requires players to perform an assassination on a Promethean Knight and another that invites players to find one of the many hidden RvB Easter Eggs in any Chapter.

Multiplayer

343 Industries has blessed (or cursed) the community with another round of Multiplayer achievements this time around. Unfortunately, only three of these twelve achievements can be boosted in Custom Games (or even obtained through Spartan Ops). These three achievements are for achieving 2,500 headshots, obtaining 2,500 assists, and receiving 250 beat down medals (not to be confused with melee attack medals; beat downs must be from behind).

As for the other nine achievements, they must all be obtained in matchmaking, which automatically proves to be a near impossible feat given the rough state of the Multiplayer, the harsh restrictions on the achievements, and the nature of such milestone-based achievements. On the note of harsh restrictions, there are two achievements that can only be obtained on Halo 2 Anniversary maps. One of these achievements asks players to obtain 100 Splatter medals and the other achievement asks players to obtain 100 Environmentalist medals. The former is best obtained through the H2A on Stonetown or Big Team Battle’s playlist on Bloodline, while the latter can really only be obtained on Lockdown. Lockdown appears most frequently in the standard H2A playlist, the Halo Championship Series playlist, and the Team SWAT playlist.

Two of the remaining seven achievements ask players to dip their toes in objective matches and receive a grand total of 250 King of the Hill medals and 250 Capture the Flag medals. There’s also two achievements that reward excellent skill, one of which asks players to obtain 100 Killing Spree medals and another that requires players to obtain 100 Legendary medals. As for the last three achievements, they can be obtained for earning a total of 250 Double Kill medals, 250 Killjoy medals, and 500 Grenade Kills or Plasma Kill medals.

Clearly, these nine matchmaking-only achievements will require players to invest countless hours, maybe hundreds, in the Multiplayer portion of the game. Given the rough state of the Multiplayer, it’ll take a considerably long time to earn all of these achievements, and unfortunately, there are very few boosting methods that exist in order to speed up the process. With enough skill, dedication, and time, any devoted Halo player can nab all these achievements in a matter of weeks.

UPDATE: Thanks to LifeExpectancy, there is a user-friendly boosting guide (FOUND HERE) that explains to players the different methods involved in obtaining all of the matchmaking-only achievements with two parties of four to five players. Though this general boosting method may prove to be a difficult set-up (and will take longer unless performed with two players who have four controllers each), it will help those looking to find decent workarounds for the milestone-based achievements.

Miscellaneous

This title update also brings with it a host of miscellaneous achievements that aren’t necessarily tied to Halo 4’s Spartan Ops or the matchmaking portion of Multiplayer. In fact, you’ll come to notice that there is an achievement that requires players to complete a Campaign mission with all of that particulars Campaign’s LASO playlist skulls enabled. Additionally, there’s an achievement tied to Custom Games in Halo: Combat Evolved for launching a Warthog in the air for five seconds and then having it splatter an enemy. Lastly, Halo 3’s Mythic Multiplayer map skulls have returned which offer a total of seven achievements. These skulls are tied to the following maps: Assembly, Citadel, Heretic, Longshore, Sandbox, and Orbital.

Beyond all that, there are a total of eight achievements that can be quickly boosted on your own in Custom Games. Four of these achievements ask players to complete a match on at least eight different multiplayer maps for Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 3, and Halo 4. The other four achievements here task players with completing a match on at least four different game types in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Let it not be mistaken that it’s eight different maps per game and four different game types per game.

Conclusion

Overall, the latest title update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection brings a total fifty new achievements to the game, a small amount of which will require players to spend hundreds of hours on the Multiplayer portion of the game. Between the twenty-one Spartan Ops achievements, the thirteen Multiplayer achievements, and the eleven miscellaneous achievements there’s enough incentive for players to hop around the different aspects of the game and mop up whatever achievements they desire to grab. If you’re looking to grab all fifty however, be prepared to invest most of your gaming time to Halo’s broken Multiplayer.

Halo 4: Complete all Spartan Ops chapters on Legendary difficulty.

Spartan Ops, the mission-based cooperative multiplayer mode supports up to four players across all 10 Episodes. Each of these Episodes contains 5 small Chapters, meaning that all fifty Chapters must be completed on the Legendary difficulty in order to unlock this achievement. If you decide to go about this through Co-Op play, the missions will prove to be a little easier as opposed to working alone since you will have extra firepower in order to eliminate the Covenant and Promethean threats. On the other hand, if you decide to work on this achievement in a Solo playthrough, you will also make natural progress towards the Smooth Operator achievement.

During your Spartan Ops playthrough, you will come to notice that most of the missions take place on recycled environments from the Single Player Campaign or the Multiplayer maps. As such, when playing on these environments, you should have a general understanding of the mission’s design structure and layout. The objectives through all fifty Chapters vary, as well. They will usually range from eliminating all the enemies in the area to defending a group of Marines or UNSC equipment.

Like the Halo 4 Campaign, make sure to keep these general guidelines in mind when powering through Spartan Ops.

  • Utilize the Noob-Combo (Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle or DMR) at all times when facing Elites and Knights; an overcharged Plasma Pistol shot will drain/break their shields, while a follow-up three-shot burst to the head will kill the enemy
  • Utilize vehicles – Warthogs, Scorpions, and Mantises – whenever they are presented in a mission because their firepower will help clear out areas quickly
  • When facing Hunters, get close enough so that they charge at you as this allows time to side step their attack, and then shoot at the patch of orange flesh on their back (their weak spot)
  • When fighting massive groups of Prometheans, always kill Watchers first since they act as a Knight’s and Crawler’s defense unit by deploying Hardlight Shields, reconstructing fallen allies, and tossing back live grenades.
  • Try avoiding close-quarters combat with Knights since their arm blades will tear you to pieces in one swipe at times; pick them off from afar
  • Don’t neglect the basics of using cover; when your shields drop down, hide behind a wall or crouch behind an object before charging back out into battle

As a final note, it’s worth mentioning that you are given an unlimited pool of lives when playing through Spartan Ops. Unlike the Campaign, deaths do not revert your progress to a checkpoint. Instead, you will respawn in a safe-zone if you happen to die during the mission. All in all, once all fifty Chapters in Spartan Ops have been completed at the Legendary difficulty setting, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97437-lo.jpg Smooth Operator 30:gsicon:

Halo 4: Complete all Spartan Ops chapters solo on Legendary difficulty.

As of now, this achievement can be obtained with very little effort on your part. Instead of playing through the entirety of all fifty Chapters of Spartan Ops, follow the steps below in utilizing a simple “QUIT” exploit and this achievement will be yours in as little as an hour and a half.

To start, enter the Spartan Ops lobby through the Multiplayer tab of the Main Menu. Here, you will want to load up Episode 1, Chapter 1 and set the difficulty to Legendary. As soon as the mission’s introductory cutscene begins to play, go ahead and pause your game. Click “Quit” and you will be brought back to the Spartan Ops lobby. You will now notice that Episode 1, Chapter 1 is registered as being complete on Solo Legendary.

Repeat this process for all the Chapters of Spartan Ops and Smooth Operator, as well as any other Spartan Ops completion achievements you have not yet obtained, will be yours in under two hours.

Halo 4: Why are you even here?

The best place to get this achievement is on Episode 1, Chapter 5. After the first major firefight, you will reach the top of the Forerunner bridge-like structure that leads to the first objective. At this point, follow the outer wall that lines this area until you find a small break in the wall that you can look through. If you jump on the ledge and look down into the molten rocks, you will find a small chest sitting on the rocks. Go ahead and shoot this chest with any weapon in order to unlock the achievement. If you require a visual aid in obtaining this achievement, make sure to check out the video guide below.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97439-lo.jpg No One Left Behind 10:gsicon:

Halo 4: Save at least one Marine on Hacksaw (Ep.2 Ch.3) of Spartan Ops on Heroic or Legendary.

This achievement is best done cooperatively with 2-3 other players since the extra firepower will prove to be beneficial when eliminating the Covenant enemies in the area. In total, there are about 6-8 Marines that you will need to protect throughout the duration of the mission. They will generally follow you around and provide support, but take note that they aren’t necessarily strong enough to kill Elites, Hunters, and Jackals on their own. Despite this, with a 2-3 other players, protecting at least one Marine should be pretty easy.

As soon as the mission beings, you will notice that the area is actually a recycled environment from the Campaign’s “Forerunner” mission. Walk around to each of the small bases in the corners of the area to locate the Marines. Help them take out the immediate Covenant threat and once the Elites, Grunts, and Jackals are killed, the Marines will begin following you. At this point, two players should lead the Marines to the top of the central structure in order to hold the upper ground advantage over the Covenant. The third player (or other two players if you’re playing with a full lobby) should remain stationed on the ground in order to flush out the Covenant head-on.

From here on out, a few Covenant Phantoms will begin to drop off waves of enemies, some of which even drop of a Wraith. At the top of the central structure, there are a few Spartan Lasers and Rocket Launchers, both of which will be beneficial in eliminating the ground troops from afar. The players on the ground should arm themselves with a Plasma Pistol and Battle Rifle/DMR in order to pull off quick Noob-Combos on the Covenant Elites. With the group of players split between the top level of the structure and the ground level, you should have no problem killing the Covenant quickly while ensuring the Marines are kept alive. If at any point you think it’s necessary, go ahead and give one or two of the Marines a Rocket Launcher for safety. Also, the player(s) on the ground should eliminate the Elite Zealots (wielding Energy Swords) as quickly as possibly before the Elites storm the top of the structure and kill the Elites.

Towards the end of this mission, two Covenant Phantoms will linger overhead and you will be required to destroy them via Spartan Laser/Rocket Launcher before evac can arrive. Once these ships are destroyed, the achievement will unlock as you approach the Pelican so long as at least one Marine is still alive.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97440-lo.jpg Knight in White Assassination 5:gsicon:

Halo 4: Assassinate a Knight in any Spartan Ops mission.

The best chapter to get this achievement is on Episode 1, Chapter 4. In addition to this, it’s highly recommended to create a Halo 4 custom loadout through the “customization” tab of the Main Menu with the Promethean Vision armor ability.

After completing the inital objective (activating the switch) at the start of this mission, clear out the room of Crawlers and stat heading back out of the hallway that you came from. At this point, you will be informed via Palmer that there is a Promethean Knight around the corner. As soon as you hear this, activate Promethean Vision in order to track the Knight’s movement. You will notice the Knight paces back and forth down the hallway. As soon as its back is turn, run up behind the warrior and hold your melee button to perform an assassination, thus unlocking the achievement.

If you are playing this mission with another player, you can avoid the “sneaky route” by allowing one player to distract the Knight while the second player runs up behind for an assassination. For a visual guide in completing this achievement, go ahead and check out the video below.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97441-lo.jpg What Power Outage? 10:gsicon:

Halo 4: Complete The Cauldron Base of Spartan Ops without losing a generator on Heroic or Legendary.

This achievement is actually best done cooperatively with only one other player. This is because when this mission is played solo or with two players, Mantises are provided as the means of vehicular firepower. When playing with three or four players however, these Mantises are replaced with Gauss Warthogs, which prove to be inferior to the firepower of a Mantis. With that said, each player should hop in their Mantises as soon as the mission begins and move through the canyon valley until they reach the group of UNSC Marines and two large generators. Take note that there are two extra Mantises on the platform behind the generators in the event that your starting Mech is destroyed.

The objective during this entire mission will be to protect both generators on the Forerunner platform from the oncoming waves of Covenant units. The Covenant will usually be dropped into the mission in one of two ways. Phantoms will drop small groups of six to eight Grunts off at the perimeter of the platform on both the left and right side while at other times, drop-pods will invite three to four Elites in the center of the platform.

Generally, there is no definitive guide that can detail the strategies involved with protecting the generators during this mission. Simply communicate with your teammate and utilize the firepower (machine gun turret and rocket pods) of the Mantis in order to eliminate the Covenant threat before they even have a chance to get near the generator and damage it with their weapons or melee attacks. Since the platform here is tight, each player should maintain their position on one end of the platform rather than pacing back and forth and getting caught on the walls. There are about eight waves of enemies that will storm the platform, but once they are all eliminated, the achievement will unlock before the mission requires players to proceed to the next mini-objective.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97442-lo.jpg No Easy Way Out 10:gsicon:

Halo 4: Survive Spartan Miller (Ep.5 Ch.1) of Spartan Ops on Heroic or Legendary.

Despite the achievement’s description leading players to believe that this mission must be completed with dying, that’s not the case at all. In fact, this achievement will unlock so long as you simply complete the initial objective of this mission. That objective is rather simple: Activate the two UNSC terminals and protect at least once of them from the dozen waves of Promethean enemies.

As a general note, this achievement is best done on Heroic with 1-3 other players. The extra firepower is great when picking off Watchers and Crawlers and facing off against Knights. Towards the end of this mission, the waves of enemies will begin to die down a little bit and you will be required to activate a new switch on the equipment on the central structure. Before doing this, make sure to kill the two Knights on the top level of this structure and any other Promethean enemies that spawn into the area after these Knights’ death.

Once the entire area is clear of enemies, you will unlock the achievement and can now proceed to activate the switch and continue with the mission's objective(s) as normal. Remember, you can die as many times as you want, as it does not void anything related to the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97443-lo.jpg Nice Work Dawg! 5:gsicon:

Earn a total of 2,500 Assist medals in multiplayer.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a red and white Yin and Yang symbol and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon assisting a teammate in achieving a kill. Though this achievement can obviously be done in regular matchmaking as progress will be obtained naturally, this is best boosted with at least three players in Forge. To do that, be sure to follow the steps below:

  • Enter Halo 2’s Forge through the Main Menu’s Multiplayer tab and set the map to Nebula
  • Have all three players meet up on the single platform
  • Enter Editor Mode and move the white respawn point to the edge of this platform
  • One player will act as the “Dummy” player and kill themselves by jumping off the platform
  • Player “A” will stand to “Dummy’s” side and melee him as soon as he spawns
  • Player “B” will then beat down “Dummy” in the back, causing Dummy to fall off the platform
  • This will give Player “A” an assist medal and Player “B” will receive a Beat Down medal for the Dim Mak achievement
  • ”Dummy” will respawn at the edge right away
  • Repeat this process for as long as necessary

As a note, make sure to tweak the gameplay options in the Forge lobby under “Options” before loading up the match. Under “Respawn Time,” change it to “Instant.” This will allow the “Dummy” player to respawn as soon as they are killed, giving Players “A” and “B” nearly 250 assists/beat downs every seven minutes minutes. Once you have obtained 2,500 Assist medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97444-lo.jpg Aim for the Head 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 2,500 Headshot medals in multiplayer.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a “targeted” skull and only earned via a precision weapon in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon killing an opponent by shooting them in the head. Though this achievement can obviously be done in regular matchmaking (best done in SWAT) as progress will be obtained naturally, this can also be boosted with at least three players in Forge.

  • Player “B” will then perform a headshot on “Dummy,” causing Dummy to fall off the platform
  • This will give Player “A” an Assist medal for the Nice Work Dawg! achievement and Player “B” will receive a Headshot medal
  • ”Dummy” will respawn at the edge right away
  • Repeat this process for as long as necessary

As a note, make sure to tweak the gameplay options in the Forge lobby under “Options” before loading up the match. Under “Respawn Time,” change it to “Instant” and then under “Player Traits – Weapons and Damage,” change the primary weapon to a Beam Rifle and give it a bottomless clip. This will allow the “Dummy” player to respawn as soon as they are killed, giving Players “A” and “B” nearly 250 headshots/assists every seven minutes. Once you have obtained 2,500 Headshot medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97445-lo.jpg Dim Mak 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 250 Beat Down medals in multiplayer.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a masked ninja icon and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon killing an opponent with a melee attack from behind (not to be confused with a melee kill medal).

  • This will give Player “B” a Beat Down medal and Player “A” will receive an Assist medal for the Nice Work Dawg achievement
  • ”Dummy” will respawn at the edge right away
  • Repeat this process for as long as necessary

As a note, make sure to tweak the gameplay options in the Forge lobby under “Options” before loading up the match. Under “Respawn Time,” change it to “Instant.” This will allow the “Dummy” player to respawn as soon as they are killed, giving Players “B” all 250 Beat Down medals about ten minutes or so. Once you have obtained the 250 Beat Down medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97446-lo.jpg Domination 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 100 Legendary medals in matchmade games.

Legendary medals are among the top-tier of medals in Halo: The Master Chief Collection and are awarded to players for performing specifically tough feats during Multiplayer. Take a look below for all the Legendary medals and their requirements.

  • Extermination – Wipe out the enemy team with at least an overkill
  • Killionaire – Kill 10 opponents within 4 seconds of each other
  • Perfection – Win a slayer game with 15+ kills without dying
  • Steaktacular – Play in a matchmade slayer game and win by at least 20 kills
  • Triple Double – Finish a game with double-digit: kills, assists, and headshots
  • Unfriggenbelievable – Kill 40 enemies in a row without dying

All of these Legendary medals can be obtained in any of the games with the exception of the Unfriggenbelievable medal not being available in Halo 3. Overall, most of these medals are extremely difficult to achieve and there is no definitive boosting method in order to obtain them. With a party of four players however, Team SWAT is one of the best playlists to work on this achievement because the matches are relatively quick and no shields translates to a greater chance of gaining an Extermination medal. Additionally, coordinated teams also have a greater chance in achieving a Steaktacular if they can finish the match with at least twenty kills more than their opponents. Once you earn a total of 100 Legendary medals, this achievement will unlock.

NOTE: As of now, the ONLY game that gives Legendary medals (consistently) is Halo 2: Anniversary. There is confirmation across many gamers that Halo 3, regardless of game type, does not give Legendary medals even when the criteria has been met. Likewise, Legendary medals in Halo 2 Classic and Halo 4 are very shoddy. As such, it’s best to stick to all the H2A-focused playlists (H2A, HCS, Team SWAT) when working on Legendary medals.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97447-lo.jpg Double Trouble 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 250 Double Kill medals in matchmade games.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by two stars within a purple circle and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon killing two opponents within four seconds of each other. Like the Legendary medals achievement, and mostly of all of achievements that will follow this one, there is no definitive way to boost Double Kill medals.

You'll need to work with a coordinated team in order achieve two kills within such a short time frame. Team SWAT is one of the best playlists to work on this achievement since players are automatically stripped of their shields, thus meaning you can gain Double Kills a little easier than in a standard Team Slayer game. Once you achieve 250 Double Kill medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97448-lo.jpg Spree Master 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 100 Killing Spree medals in matchmade games.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a white and blue circle and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon killing five opponents in a row without dying. Once again, there is no definitive way to boost Killing Spree medals.

Team SWAT and Big Team Battle are two of the best playlists to work on this achievement. The former automatically strips players of their shields, thus meaning you can gain kills and sprees quickly if your reflexes are sharp. The latter allows for larger teams, which means there are more enemies to kill, especially if they are grouped together in vehicles such as a Warthog. With these tidbits in mind, make sure to stick to one of the two playlists suggested and Killing Sprees may come quicker than in any other playlist. Once you achieve 250 Killing Spree medals, this achievement will unlock.

Earn a total of 500 Grenade Kill or Plasma Kill medals in matchmade games.

These Multiplayer medal are represented by a white grenade/plasma grenade icon and are available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 4. The former is awarded to players upon killing an opponent by using a Fragmentation Grenade or Pulse Grenade while the latter is awarded to players for killing an opponent by using a Plasma Grenades. Like the above achievements, there is no definitive way to boost Grenade Kill and Plasma Kill medals.

The best playlists to work on this achievement are Halo Champion Series or Rumble Pit. The former only offers three maps (Lockdown, Shrine, and Warlord), though these maps (especially Warlord) are great for Grenade/Plasma Kill medals on objective matches such as King of the Hill. The latter of these playlists is also a great option because it’s essentially a Free-for-All match. This means that everyone is competing for their own interests, meaning you can probably nab a few kills via grenades while other playes are fighting each other and duking it out. Once you achieve 500 Grenade Kill or Plasma Kill medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97450-lo.jpg Party Pooper 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 250 Killjoy medals in matchmade games.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by an octagon with a crossed-out smiley in the center and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon ending an opponent’s killing spree – any spree. Unlike most other medals, Killjoy medals are very random since you don't really know which players(s) are on killing sprees, unless of course, an opponent has killed you or your team multiple times without dying and you know where they are located.

There is no specific playlist that this achievement is best obtained through, though Team SWAT and Big Team Battle lend themselves best for Killjoy medals. As previously mentioned, this is because the former allows players to achieve kills quicker and easier since players are stripped of their shields, while the latter allows players to kill a greater amount of opponents on the enemy team since team sizes are larger than every other playlist. Unfortunately, this achievement is essentially rewarding players who are not performing well or who are placed on teams that are not performing to the best of their ability. Once you achieve 250 Killjoy medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97451-lo.jpg Planting A Flag 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 250 CTF Mode Specific medals in matchmade games.

In total, there are twelve Capture the Flag Mode Specific medals that can be earned in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. You can take a look below to see what medals count towards this achievement.

  • Flag Taken – Take an opponent’s flag from their base (H:CE, H2, H2A)
  • Flag Returned – Return your flag to your base (H:CE, H2, H2A)
  • Flag Captured – Capture the opposing team’s flag (ALL GAMES)
  • Flag Runner – Capture 2 flags in one game (H:CE, H2, H2A, H4)
  • Flag Champion – Capture 3 flags in one game (H:CE, H2, H2A, H4)
  • Flag Assist – Help a teammate capture a flag (H2A, H4)
  • Flag Carrier Kill – Kill the opposing flag carrier (ALL GAMES)
  • Flag Defense – Kill an opponent who is close to your flag (H2A, H4)
  • Flag Kill – Get a kill while holding a flag (ALL GAMES)
  • Flagassination – Perform an assassination while holding the flag (H4)
  • Flag Joust – Kill a flag carrier while holding the flag (H2A, H4)
  • Flag Driver – Drive a flag carrier close to your capture point (H2A, H4)

With all of this in mind, disregard anything about the medals above and focus on the method that is about to be explained below.

To begin, you will want to grab five other players so that you have a party size of six. Make sure everyone has microphones and can communicate effectively. Now designate one of the members in your party as the “Countdown Person.” This group of six will now need to split off into two parties of three. While each party is sitting at the Multiplayer Main Menu, the session leader will need to highlight Halo: Combat Evolved. At this point, the “Countdown Person” will need to announce, “3, 2, 1, Now.” When the “Countdown Person” says “Now,” the session leaders will need to activate the Halo: Combat Evolved playlist to begin searching for a game.

While searching, both parties will need to communicate via party chat and make sure that the lobby’s status is the same for both groups of three, (e.g. “Players Found,” “Joining Game,” and “Creating Teams”). If you are getting the same status updates in the lobby, you will most likely be matched up with each other. If you don’t get paired up, simply quit out of the game that you join and restart the process.

Once both parties are in a game together, you will want to hope that Capture the Flag is one of the options is the match selection screen. If a CTF match is chosen, wait until the game begins and then have one player from each team pair up with another. With these smaller groups created, head on over to one of the flags on the map. The player who is the same color as the flag will be deemed as the “Flag Retriever.” On the other hand, the person who is the opposite color as the flag willed be deemed as the “Flag Grabber.”

Now have the “Flag Retriever” stand exactly on the flag’s spawn plate. The “Flag Grabber” just has to grab the enemy’s flag and stand right in front of the “Flag Retriever” who should still be standing on the flag’s spawn plate. The “Flag Grabber” now has to look at the “Flag Retriever” and tap the right trigger. This will cause the “Flag Grabber” to toss the flag back at the “Flag Retreiver” who will earn the Flag Returned medal. At the same time, the “Flag Gabber” will automatically pick the flag back up and earn the Flag Taken medal. All you have to do now is have the “Flag Grabber” spam the right trigger and both players will earn medals within seconds. In fact, this entire achievement can be knocked out of the way within 2-3 minutes if done properly.

If you need a visual aid in understand this complicated boosting method, go ahead and utilize the video below. Also, it’s worth noting that this boosting method could be manipulated to suit the other matchmade-only multiplayer achievements, but setting it up could be very problematic since other playlists require more players than the Halo: Combat Evolved playlist and are more populated than the Halo: Combat Evolved playlist. Either way, once you achieve 250 Capture the Flag Mode Specific medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97452-lo.jpg The True King 10:gsicon:

Earn a total of 250 KOTH Mode Specific medals in matchmade games.

In total, there are thirteen King of the Hill Mode Specific medals that can be earned in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. You can take a look below to see what medals count towards this achievement.

  • Hill Defense - Kill an enemy while holding a hill (ALL GAMES)
  • Hill Offense - Kill an enemy holding a hill (ALL GAMES)
  • Hail To The King - Kill 5 consecutive opponents in a single life from inside the hill before it moves (ALL GAMES)
  • Hill Assist - Assist killing an enemy taking or holding the hill (H4)
  • Regime Change - Overtake a controlled hill (10 seconds) and hold it for 10 seconds (H4)
  • First Point - Be the first player to earn a point from a hill (ALL GAMES)
  • Loitering - Hold and survive the hill for 5 seconds (H2A, H4)
  • Squatter - Hold and survive in the hill for 15 seconds (H2A, H4)
  • Over the Hill - Hold and survive the hill for 30 seconds (H2A, H4)
  • Vehicle Dominance - Use a vehicle to hold a hill (ALL GAMES)
  • Visiting - Hold and survive in the hill for 5 seconds using a vehicle (H2A, H4)
  • Parked - Hold and survive in the hill for 15 seconds using a vehicle (H2A, H4)
  • Drive In - Hold and survive in the hill for 30 seconds using a vehicle (H2A, H4)

With all of this in mind, the best playlist to work on this achievement is Team SWAT. This is because objective game modes like King of the Hill will appear more often than in any other Multiplayer playlist. In addition to this, Team SWAT is much easier to earn KoTH medals because since all players are stripped of their shields, kills for medals such as Hill Offense and Hill Defense will come easier than in a standard King of the Hill match.

The most difficult aspect of this achievement is to wait until King of the Hill is actually voted for in the Multiplayer map selection menu. A decent way to circumvent the negative possibility of KoTH not getting chosen is to play with a group of three to four other players. This increases the chances of KoTH being voted for since your entire party can vote for King of the Hill once it appears. Overall, this achievement only goes as fast as your skill level in the aforementioned game type. Once you achieve 250 KoTH Mode Specific medals, this achievement will unlock.

Halo 2A MP: In Anniversary matchmaking, earn a total of 100 Splatter medals.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a bloodied stickman inside a yellow diamond and is available in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. It is awarded to players upon hitting and killing an opponent with a vehicle (Warthog, Gungoose, Ghost). Despite being available in all the games, this achievement requires players to earn Splatter medals in Halo 2: Anniversary matchmaking only. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to boost this, so be prepared to play on Bloodline and Stonetown a lot, as these are the only two H2A maps that house vehicles.

When working on this achievement, you'll want to stick to the Big Team Battle or Team Slayer playlists. Both of the aforementioned maps will appear in this playlist, though you'll come to notice that they have and extremely low probability of showing up. If you want to try other playlists, Team Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 2: Anniversary Rumble houses Stonetown, and Lockdown's (found in Team Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo Championship Series, Halo 2: Anniversary Rumble and Team SWAT) stalactites often time net a Splatter medal when an Environmentalist medal is earned (though this isn't 100% guaranteed).

All three maps work well for this achievement and it's just a matter of which playlist you want to try out. If you happen to go with the two bigger maps, keep the following in mind: Bloodline houses a Warthog and Ghost at each base and there a couple Gungooses scattered around the map as well. As for Stonetown, there are two Warthogs, one Gungoose and one Ghost at the beach-side spawn as well as one Warthog and one Ghost outside the perimeter of the complex. Splatters may prove to be quite the burden when playing Slayer or Objective matches on these matches, but if you aim small and try to get at least three to five Splatter medals per game, this achievement will be less of a difficult task and more of a focused-grind. Once you achieve 100 Splatters medals, this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97454-lo.jpg Rock and Coil Hit Back 10:gsicon:

Halo 2A MP: In Anniversary matchmaking, earn a total of 100 Environmentalist medals.

This Multiplayer medal is represented by a black skull inside a yellow triangle and is only available in Halo 2: Anniversary. It is awarded to players upon killing an opponent with any dynamic element in the level. This includes - and is unfortunately limited to - the stalactites in Lockdown, as well as the fusion coil barrels in both Lockdown and Stonetown. As a final reminder, this achievement will take quite a while to earn as there is no definitive way to boost Environmentalist medals.

Since there are only two maps that allow players to receive these medals, you're best bet when playing Multiplayer is to stick to the following playlists: Halo Championship Series or Team SWAT. Lockdown will appear in both playlists (more commonly in HCS). Stonetown on the other hand will appear in Team Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 2: anniversary Rumble, Team Slayer, and Big Team Battle. Despite this, Team Slayer and Big Team Battle are not recommended because Stonetown has a very low probability of appearing as one of the maps. It has a greater chance of appearing in Team Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 2: Anniversary Rumble, however Stonetown doesn't have as many fusion coils as Lockdown.

With this in mind, stick to the Halo Championship Series playlist or the Team SWAT playlist. Environmentalist kills are not always guaranteed every match, however if you're keen on shooting down the stalactites every so often during a match - or happen to shoot a fusion coil while an opponent is camping near the "Sniper Tower" or above the "BR Tower" - you may be lucky enough to earn yourself an Environmentalist medal if these objects kill the enemy player.

All in all, this achievement goes only as far as a player's luck and skill in luring enemies into these environmental trap, so you'll need to dedicate a decent amount of time to Lockdown in order to get this done. Once you achieve 100 Environmentalist medals, this achievement will unlock.

Complete 1 mission with the LASO playlist skulls enabled.

This achievement is in fact retroactive and will unlock if you have already completed any of the many missions in a Campaign’s LASO playlist. As some players have reported however, such retroactive progress will cause the achievement to be stuck at the “Done! Unlocking…” phase in the Xbox One’s achievement app. If this happens, you will need to simply wait until the achievement finishes unlocking itself (this may take days or weeks to happen).

If you have not already met the criteria for this achievement, you will need to complete a Campaign mission from Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, or Halo 4 with that game’s LASO playlist skulls activated. While some players have reported that completing Halo 2’s “Armory” mission with the LASO playlist skulls activated will unlock this achievement (or even Halo 3’s “Epilogue”), this method is not working for everyone.

If you are one of those who cannot unlock the achievement in such a way, you will need to find another mission and power through it with the appropriate skulls. Halo: CE’s “Keyes” or Halo 2’s “Uprising” both have extremely beneficial exploits that can skip more than half of the mission. As such, it’s suggested to learn the “Keyes Bump” or Uprising’s “early level finish” exploit in order to then complete these missions with the Campaign’s LASO playlist skulls activated. If you are successful in performing this feat, this achievement will then unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3075/97456-lo.jpg Airborne 10:gsicon:

Halo CE: Launch a Warthog for at least 5 seconds and have it splatter an enemy.

This achievement is obtained in a Halo: Combat Evolved Custom Game with a bare minimum of three players. While this can technically be done on your own with two extra controllers, it will prove to be too difficult as opposed to teaming up with two other players who have microphones and can communicate via an Xbox Live party chat.

With that said, go ahead an host a Custom Games lobby and invite the two other players. The person going for this achievement should try to be host, though that is not entirely necessary. Before launching the game, you're going to need to tweak the options a little bit. First off, select the map called "Death Island" and change the game type to Team Slayer. Player "A" (host) will be going for the achievement and should be on a team with Player "B." Player "C" will need to be on their own team. Now under options, go ahead and turn friendly fire off, change the primary weapon to a Rocket Launcher, turn off Banshees for both teams, set the time limit to "none," and set grenades to "infinite." Once all these options are in place, go ahead an launch the game.

When the match begins, Player "A" will need to grab one of the many Warthogs around the island and drive up to the top of the map. Player "A" needs to line up their Warthog with the tip of Red Base's Ghost spawn and then drive back in order to put some distance between the Warthog and the Ghost. Driving back to the rock/trees is far enough. At this point, Player "B" should stand off to the side of the Ghost with Plasma Grenades equipped while Player "C" stands at the beach in front of Red Base. It's worth noting that Player "A" will be the driver (person getting the achievement), Player "B" will be the "launcher," and Player "C" is going to be the player that gets splattered.

Once everyone is in position, Player "A" needs to accelerate the Warthog forward and steer straight into the Ghost because it will act as a mini-ramp for the Warthog. When the Warthog is a few feet from the Ghost, Player "B" needs to throw one Plasma Grenade at the front of the Ghost. Player "A" will drive over the grenade and over the Ghost, which is when Player "B" will shoot a single rocket at the ground behind the Warthog. If timed correctly, though timing does not need to be that exact, the Plasma Grenade will go off as soon as the rocket explodes, thus "launching" (as the achievement's description requires) the Warthog high into the air off of Red Base. This double explosion will more than likely always grant five to six seconds of airtime.

Player "C" now has to essentially "catch" the Warthog by moving around and positioning themselves underneath the vehicle as it descends. It's important to note that Player "C" cannot jump into the Warthog. Rather, the Warthog needs to crush Player "C" while still in the air. Essentially, the Warthog cannot touch the ground before it kills Player "C." If done correctly, Player "A" will receive a Splatter medal and the achievement should unlock with issue.

For a visual aid in completing this achievement, you can use the video guide below courtesy of LifeExpectancy. His video guide is a little different than the solution offered above, however you will notice that this guide's solution avoids the issues of having Banshees spawn on top of Red Base and thus reducing the acceleration of the Warthog, avoids the probability of Player "B" killing Player "A" since friendly fire is turned off, and guarantees a bigger launch with more airtime due to the dual explosion from the Plasma Grenade and Rocket Launcher blast.

Remember, a minimum of three players is required for this achievement! While the methods shown in the text-based guide and video guide may seem daunting, this achievement can be done relatively quickly if all three players understand their roles and communicate throughout the entire achievement process.

Similar to the hidden skulls found in the main Halo 3 Campaign, these collectibles make their return to six of the Halo 3 Multiplayer Maps: Assembly, Orbital, Sandbox, Citadel, Heretic, and Longshore. Once again, these skull collectibles are extremely well-hidden and come in the appearance of an actual human skull.

Unlike the Campaign skulls however, these Multiplayer skulls do not act as additional gameplay modifiers. Instead, their only reward is the achievement. Despite this, make sure to utilize the video below in order to locate all six Multiplayer skulls and this achievement, as well as the six that precede it, will unlock without issue.

For the Halo 3 four gametypes one, correct me if I'm wrong, but regicide wasn't in Halo 3. It was in Halo Reach or Halo 4. Also, for the triple double one, the medal description in-game states that the medal can be achieved by getting double digit: kills, assists and headshots in one game. Is this correct?

I don't mean to be picky, but I thought I might point that out.

Damn it Bigg, I thought you had a detailed strategy for the 5 seconds warthog launch ready to go. The anticipation is killing me:p

Text and alternative video solution are now up. It's a little wordy, but it does the job. My solution differs from Life's video just a tad by removing the issue of Banshees, ensuring the Warthog driver cannot die from the explosion, and guaranteeing a bigger explosion that always grants 5+ seconds of airtime. Hopefully it helps!

Screw the Warthog launch. How can i boost the medals when matchmking is broken? BiggD fix this God forsaken game!

I know :( If MP worked properly, these medals would be nice to earn. But MP is broken as shit and the medals don't even tracker properly!!!

Nice work on the guide! Just a few things I thought should be noted

No Easy Way Out - your guide says best done on Normal but the description is Heroic/Legendary. Does normal actually work? Already done it so can't comment

No One Left Behind - an alternative strategy to do it solo easily is that until you clear out all 3 areas at the start, the marines are invincible, so you can use a ghost and nudge them off the edge where you started the level and there is a lower level where they can survive but not get into a battle. They will rarely fall off so you can put 2 or 3 down to be safe.

Airborne - from my experience, it seems like you can't get this by killing a guest account. My friend and I couldn't seem to get it to unlock but as soon as we killed each others' main accounts instead of each others' guests, it popped.

No Easy Way Out: There is an easier way to do this solo. Fight through the mission until the two generators spawn. Once they do, kill all the enemies except for 3 crawlers. Now, just distract the crawlers until the hidden timer finishes and you complete the mission. You'll get the prompt to go press the button to end the mission. From here, just keep killing the waves and waves of Prometheans (you can die as much as you want). Eventually, you will kill enough and the achievement will pop. I got this with only one generator surviving.

I got this solution off a comment on the achievement guide on TA.

Guide is done at this point.

Added Life's boosting guide to the Roadmap, though made a note that it's not that efficient if done with two parties of 8 individual players. His methods are better done two parties of two players (each player should have their main account and three guests).

I also added descriptions to the Splatter achievement and the Environmentalist achievement.

I'll take another look at those two comments above and see if they should be added in later this week.

Nice work BiggD. You want me to re-record the hog launch/airborne achievement using your friendly-fire off rocket launcher method? Sounds aces.

If you have the spare time this week to do so, that'd be super great. I'd jump in to help set it up but I'll be busy boosting the last few achievements :o

My friends and I, who all do not particularly enjoy Halo 4 as much as the other Halo titles, were painfully playing through this until the game did what it always does and kicked us back to the dashboard mid-play. When we went back to start the chapter/part over again, it said it was completed. I wish I had read about this here first because we ended up playing a good portion of Spartan Ops together before we realized we didn't have to!! Sigh.

I'm glad this is here so everyone else can hopefully not have to play through this if they too aren't very partial to H4.

Bigg, there's an easier way to get "Roses vs Violets".

Episode 5, Chapter 5. When the mission starts, turn around and up on the rocks is the easter egg. You don't have to fight through anyone to get this.

It takes longer to load up the mission than it does to get the achievement. ;)
