NFaMuS one
True story. It's a shame really, but according to the article, the Russian government pulled the game and will have it re-released without the level No Russian. Also, according to IGN, Infinity Ward released a patch that removes the level in the PC and Steam versions of the game. Linkage: http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Console-Versions-of-Modern-Warfare-2-Banned-in-Russia http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/104/1045437p1.html I, for one, really didn't think that this would be such a big deal, and even after reading everything on the interweb about how much controversy this level has caused, I'm shocked that this actually happened. Of course, one can't be too shocked, as it was depicting the actions of a country, but at the same time, it's fiction. One can only assume that this will not branch out to the copies in the United States, however, you never know these days I guess. Russia govt controls there media much more strictly than the US controls what what we hear on the news at night.(In case you didnt realize that the govt indeed controls what is out there) Makes sense since Russian civilians are completely left out of the dark on what is happening around the world. This would be a big shock to them considering they have to pirate american movies into the country....They never see anything like this ever. Get used to it folks, with our socialist leader in power you are going to see the same shit happening here eventually. Gun control, censorship, socialized this and socialized that... wildwest08
not surprised at all, people especially governments take things way to literally instead of seeing it is a game they don't want a negative light on their country.
nightmare975
Yet they'll still keep the Russians attacking USA? Huh, I think I see something wrong here...
CGPsaint
Hypocrisy at its finest! Then again, Stalin killed more of his own people than Hitler killed Jews, but you don't ever hear about it in the history books. Hitler was a fucked up individual that blamed all of Germany's hardships on those that he deemed inferior (Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, etc) but Stalin was just a pussy that was afraid of his own people. So he killed them. Dig around in the history books. I guarantee you see anything about it in the history books in Russia!
NFaMuS one
Yet they'll still keep the Russians attacking USA? Huh, I think I see something wrong here... Valid point. In thinking about it though, if they were to take the level out but make it a cutscene, it will still have the core story behind it. So regardless of what medium it is delivered, either playable or not, Infinity Ward would have to change the entire story. I guess there will never be a happy medium. AdM1r4l Nelson
The US is one of the few countries that don't go overboard with censorship. Russia, China, Australia, UK, etc. etc. They all censor the hell out of their games. It just goes to show that we should be thankful for our freedom here in the US. And don't let any stupid politicians take it away.

Fmr. Bertwhistle
I played through not really thinking about it but thinking about it now the fact that it's Russia is actually a compliment. What other country could take over the USA?

Stalin was Georgian not Russian btw I can understand this. it is different when the shoe is on the other foot. How many Americans would want to play as a Russian that wantst o take out America? Many will say it is just a game sure as would I but I was talking to a few Americans who were bitterly disappointed that America was attackedin the game. I told them it is just a game and that I thought it made the game have a hgher impact but they just didn't like that America was attacked. I hope I am not sounding anti-American because that is not my point my point is different people view things differently and whilst I hate over zealous governments it pays to look at things from a different perspective. Other than games the government in Australia doesn't censor much and even than it is only a handful of games. I sure am glad we don't have an American style health care system down here though. I'm pretty sure that's why they put in the patch right before release to give you the option of skipping it.
KemicalSupreme
well the plot itself was false.....If there was an attack at a russian airport and an american military offical was involved, you dont think he would be on high alert? The game painted USA as being caught totally off guard by the Russian attack and surprised. That isnt the case.

bloodswan
I guessed I missed that. When did they mention that? That is the box you are meant to retrieve in the blizzard mission. In the cutscene they mention that they must have been too late and that the Russians must have stolen or encrypted the data or something like that.
