Lemons, if you're interested I have a 14 day code that you can use. Send me a PM if you want it.

ARGH. I've just about had it with people mentioning the whole "recycled maps" stuff. Did anyone really expect 343 to have a new map every week!? Firefight only had 4-6 maps and no one complained/mentioned recycled maps then

Putting my frustration towards those who complain about this (mostly those "not-so-true" Halo fans who comment on the Home Page Articles), I enjoyed almost all the Chapters this week. I like the open area at the end of Chapter 4, and Chapter 5 was pretty solid. The first three Chapters didn't have anything amazing to them, though.

We did, the Covies ran outta Banshees thanks to Crimson Team. There won't be any in Halo 5.

I'm not really against the re-using of levels. I just wish they would vary up the levels a little more frequently. They have an entire slew of multiplayer maps to utilize as well as all of the original levels from every episode so far. For Episode 8 and 9 they've decided to completely cut out the older levels and only ever use one multiplayer map when there are other maps that would work really well as well (such as Extraction.) Curious, however, if there will be more map variety in Season 2 since we'll actually be paying for the content.

Big pictures questions:

  • Will Palmer stand down now?
  • Will Lasky put her in custody now?
  • What is the "absolute record"
  • If the Librarian knows Halsey, why give her this knowledge?
  • How will Chief come out of "assumed retirement"

1. Doubt it. She has her reasons for hating Dr. Halsey and I don't think she'll just give up on hunting Dr. Halsey short of her being reacquired and arrested again.

2. I'm assuming her means Dr. Halsey and I honestly don't believe he has much say so in the matter. Osman is still ultimately in charge of Halsey's future and I don't think her opinion is going to change given what Dr. Halsey did to her 30 years ago.

3. ...I have no answer for that one. Best guess is it has something to do with the key Spartan Thorne has and the map that Crimson discovered.

4. The Librarian created Dr. Halsey. The entire existence of Spartan's, MJOLNIR armor, current augmentive technologies, smart A.I, etc... are discoveries made by Dr. Halsey thanks to the Geas planted in her DNA by The Librarian just like the one that was planted inside the Master Chief. As for the Librarian giving her the knowledge, it's because The Librarian wants Humanity to assume The Mantle of responsibility. Giving them the remaining Forerunner technology pushes them into a position of power more quickly and gives Humanity a chance to be better prepared for a possible Flood Invasion.

5. Umm... Flood Invasion? :D I doubt the Chief is actually retired. No doubt he's on leave of absence while he recovers from physical and mental injuries sustained during the events between Halo 2 and Halo 4 (That man hasn't had a vacation since his return from the first Halo installation.) I would also venture a guess that his arsenal is being updated, including the MJOLNIR Mk. VII or higher, so we should get to see the chief in some snazzy new armor with Halo 5.

Working on Dead Space 3 hardcore no death mode. When I'm done I need to check out the new spartan ops. With those kickass cinematics 343 should make a full movie in cinema!

I second this idea!

Nah, I know what you mean. It's just the people who comment on the Home Page are obnoxious about it. But I'm with ya. They should at least use more MP maps if anything. And I would hope Season 2 would be bigger and more creative in terms of maps.

1. She may try to understand Halsey's motives. I can see them having a "sit-down" and discussing reasons behind their actions.

2. Osman hates Halsey. Tom doesn't have a say.

3. The Absolute Record - The Librarian already said what it was, didn't she? A cartographer that holds the location to all Forerunner technology.

4. DarkReign pretty much had it spot on here.

5. He's not really "retired" he's probably just chilling on board the Infinity. Man deserves a break and Dark, if anything, he'll get Mark VII like Naomi did in Glasslands. That would be sweet.

Palmer did what she did cause she didn't want Lasky arrested by ONI.... Human Civil War for Halo 5 or next Kilo-five book......

Probably for the book but not the next game. That's not "big" enough to focus on when there's other important things to flesh out in an entire game.

What do you mean? He was sleeping for nearly 5 years! /sarcasm

Maybe this sounds like a bit too much of a departure from the iconic MJOLNIR armor, but I really want to see Chief in some Forerunner armor during Halo 6, or at least in some sort of epic final battle. There was a concept art image that was teased a long time ago. I think some of you guys know what I'm talking about. It was sort of like a greyish purple blue color. I'd pull it up if I weren't on my phone.

The two pieces of the Janice key revealed a large map, documenting every single piece of Forerunner architecture. Which makes me wonder what the absolute record is. It sounds like a library. If the Janice key maps all of the Forerunner installations like shield worlds and the Halos and who knows what else, what could possibly be in the absolute record? A Forerunner cashe of armor and blueprints for weapons? Documents on the Flood? Information on the Precursors? There's so much potential as to where the Halo universe can run on from here.

Mk. VII is the bare minimum. Do remember that this armor existed almost immediately after the end of the war. Nicole had her armor 4 years prior to the events of Halo 4, so it's possible there have been upgrades since then, although I don't know why an upgrade would be necessary exactly.

As for the Chief, I doubt he's actually onboard the Infinity. There's no way Dr. Halsey would be aboard the Infinity and NOT know the chief was there. It's unbelievable enough that nobody once mentioned the chief surviving before Dr. Halsey finds out when she did. Plus the Chief would insist on being actively involved with the Campaign on Requiem and would at least have his own S-IV fireteam.

If anything it would be good for him to work with a team again to work toward his humanization. But no, if anything the Chief is on Earth likely involved with the surviving members of Spartan Blue Team (Everybody seems to have forgotten that Fred, Kelly, and Linda are still very much alive as well as members of the S-III's, all of which I'm beyond disappointed that they haven't shown up at least in Spartan Ops. The last Kilo-Five novel better offer up some excuse as to why they weren't present in Halo 4.)

And Lemons, I know what Concept art you're referring to. I don't think that was ever a concept for Chief's armor though if that's what your implying. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Battle Armor for the Forerunner Warrior Caste. Also, I hate to get into technicalities, but being the nerd I am, the MJOLNIR armor was created through the Geas planted in Dr. Halsey and attained through the backward manipulation of Jackal Shield technology, which itself is derived from Forerunner technology, so technically the MJOLNIR armor is Forerunner. This statement is even backed up by Guilty Spark's comment in Halo:CE where he comments about the Master Chief's armor being a Class III Battleskin and that he should upgrade to a higher class to combat the flood. Whatever it is Spark used to identify the suit, it obviously registered on his sensors as being Forerunner by design.

In all seriousness though, I don't think it would be a good idea changing up Chief's suit too much. It already bugs me enough that his suit magically transforms in transition between games, but even with a suit change he would still be expected to maintain some semblance of being the hero of Humanity. That said, I would like to see some more obvious Forerunner influence in the Chief's next armor if at all possible. (The Mk. VII suit on the cover of Thursday War does admittedly look pretty Forerunner already, but that's purely coincidence anyway.)

On the topic of discussion, I noticed something strange going through Firefight this week. Spoilers for those that haven't played it. In Chapter 4 when the players tracking down the IFF tags (the second batch) I seem to recall hearing that the Elites were searching amongst the Humans for Reclaimers. This seems to suggest that not all of Humanity is inherently Reclaimer. Judging by those that have manipulated Forerunner technology, I can see that both Chief and Catherine are Reclaimer (ironic since they both possess the Geas?), but also noticed that S-III Lucy seemed capable of manipulation the tech on Shield World Trevalyn and both Miranda Keyes and Johnson were able to activate the respective controls rooms in Halo 2 and Halo 3. (Lucy is a stretch since i don't seem to recall her actually using the technology directly. It's possible only high-level Forerunner tech such as the Halo Array requires Reclaimer, so light bridges and such would be functional for anybody.) I wonder if the state of being Reclaimer has something to do with the seeds planted within certain bloodlines. If that's the case, just how many people have a "Destiny" in the Forerunner's plans?

I personally wouldn't like that, but I don't think I've ever seen the concept art to it.

Well The Librarian did say it contained everything for The Didact to help the Humans or something along those lines, so you could be right.

Precursors won't make an appearance in Halo 5 and 6. Calling it now.

I'm calling BS on this. I highly doubt Chief is back in battle already and isn't on Infinity. Yes, I know it's been 6 months but I'm sure he's doing debriefing with people in ONI or something - just not on the battlefield and not with S-IV's.

If anything it would be good for him to work with a team again to work toward his humanization. You and I both. Blue Team should almost CERTAINLY be in Halo 5. Chief needs them. Yes, needs. And I'm with Dark here with Spark. He basically hinted at it several times. Spark mentioned/hinted at so many small things that I doubt will ever be picked up on by anyone.

(The Mk. VII suit on the cover of Thursday War does admittedly look pretty Forerunner already, but that's purely coincidence anyway.)

The helmet looks goofy. Looks to be no visor.

I'm not gonna go too into this, but I'd say only a few. Obviously, since not everyone who plays the games has read the books, they'll probably ever only mention that Catherine and John are Reclaimers, even though there should be and probably are more.

Who caught that Episode 10 trailer?

Since I'm on my phone, I can't properly imbed a YouTube vid, but here's a link to an article on our site that shows off the trailer.

The episode is titled Exodus.

Sounds like Infinity is ready to get the hell out of Requiem. Can't help but wonder what final missions they have in store for Crimson. I would think not rescuing Dr. Halsey. They've relegated the more story-based objectives to Majestic during the CGIs, so they'll probably have us focusing on something else. Most likely taking the necessary actions to secure the remaining Forerunner tech on the planet that they mentioned and take the actions necessary to disable the device holding Infinity in place. I can't imagine them leaving Requiem without Dr. Halsey though, especially since they're supposedly trapped inside the planet so long as Infinity is outside. I'm actually surprised they haven't taken action to get free and take the Infinity and her escorts inside to decimate all of the Covenant cruisers.

(I must admit I'm stupid and disappointed in myself. I was playing through Reclaimer on LASO with my friend the other night and at the end of the level I happened to look up at the Infinity and saw it surrounded by Covie cruisers. I underestimated just how large that sonofabitch is. When you do comparison shots to scenes like POA in Halo 1, the Infinity seems longer, but otherwise appears to be the same size and you have to go on their word that it's big. When you put it up against a Covenant Cruiser, though, sweet Jesus you get a better idea.)

I did! I did! My theory: Infinity leaves Requiem, teaser at John, Didact is alive, huge cliffhanger, Season 2 in November.

Infinity is probably and most certainly 5-10x larger than the Pillar of Autumn. Well, that's what I think. As for Crimson Team - 343 is gonna leave off with a nice little cliffhanger maybe.

Wasn't Jul accessing a terminal at the end of the trailer that showed the Didact's logo/symbol? Or am I seeing things.

I'd like a Season 2. First Halo game to have 2000g (maybe(I hope if 343i does a Season 2, they'll throw us some achievements, but I don't want Halo 4 topped off at 1950g or something stupid like that)).

I'm concerned more about the pricing of a Season 2 though. If it's 1600 msp, I'll wait until a deal of the week, if I'm expecting to see more of the same Season 1 had to offer.

Hey, you still haven't read Primordium! Right?

Hmmm...interesting concept art for the Armor, I see what could be going on here.

And to be honest, no :( I haven't even started Cryptum either. I'm so behind, I've been so busy with other projects lately. I might not finish them before Silentium arrives!

As would I. Castle DLC will most likely end us off with 1750:gsicon: so Season 2 could give us the remains 250:gsicon:. I would hope and almost assume it could be a November release since Halo 5 won't be out until 2015 and maybe 2014 we'll see the 10 year Halo 2 Anniversary. I'd say it would probably be priced at 1200 or 1600 MSP, but I would probably buy it right away, lol.

AH! I knew it. Didact...alive...maybe?

Oh Dear God, I hope they don't leave it in some retarded incomplete number like that 1950 you talked about or the crappy bs number gs range like 1700(Halo: Reach) or 1200(Halo Wars) where Halo 3 did reach the limit at the time when all it's dlc came out at 1750..... Hope Halo 4 does reach 2000G....

Woah. WTF?!

The conclusion video to Exodus...I was not expecting any of that. 343 has balls, lemme tell you.

Even if we don't get a Season 2 of SPOPS, at least 343i was right... Halo 5's campaign will be the darkest in the entire series.

Epilogue spoilers:

[spoiler=Halsey]Lol at a one armed Halsey, seems kind of clichéd, but damn! How will the relationship between her and John change? Will he be forced to kill Halsey in the next game? Who knows what she could be capable of, she's the smartest human being in the goddamn universe.

Double lolz at Requiem crashing into the sun, the franchise is becoming even more notorious for destroying every single Forerunner installation we uncover.

And, I guess I'm not disturbed by the "spoilers" my friend revealed to me. He told me he saw a picture of a script that revealed dialogue from the Arbiter at the end of Season 1. Guess he lied. Damn it, I trusted him! So nothing was really spoiled for me after all.

Overall I wasn't too blown away by S1 of Spartan Ops. If there is a S2, I hope there will be achievements associated with it; otherwise, I'll probably watch S2 from YouTube.

Likewise. I'll only buy it if there are achievements tied to it, and if it goes down for a deal of the week. SPOPS was only worth it for the cutscenes, but a few of the episodes were enjoyable for me to play, namely 5, 6, 7, and 10, but that's only 4 of the 10 episodes. I don't want to risk not enjoying another season, and wasting my money. Thank God we didn't have to pay for episodes this season.

You're damn right Halo 5 will be dark. I did not see any of that coming...

[spoiler=Halsey2] Dude, I don't like the whole one-arm thing. Really stupid. But whatever, they killed off Cortana, and they're making Halsey seek revenge on the UNSC. Like I said, 343 has some big balls to be pulling all these big moves outta nowhere!

But that has me wonder, how did Halsey automatically assume/know that they were trying to kill her? Because I know some of the people thought Palmer accidentally shot Halsey...

Lol, I just realized that too. Well, Requiem is officially gone so where will Halo 5 take place?

Dark, looks like you were wrong - They did leave Halsey behind. HA!

Double Spoiler:

[spoiler=John117]Master Chief is gonna have to kill Halsey. I'm calling it now, as simple and lame as that idea is.

No Arby unfortunately but I knew he wouldn't make an appearance of any kind in this game or Spartan Ops. At this point, I doubt he'll even be in Halo's 5 or 6. But all in all, this Episode was really fun. Chapters 3 and 4 were awesome because Apex was opened up and the Mantis was fun to destroy everything with. And Chapter 5 was just beyond awesome.

I'll only buy [season 2] if there are achievements tied to it, and if it goes down for a deal of the week. SPOPS was only worth it for the cutscenes...I don't want to risk not enjoying another season, and wasting my money.

I'd buy it right away so long as it's under 1600MSP :p

So far I'm only up to Chapter 3. Haven't watched the Epilogue cutscene, although I'm actually pleasantly surprised they even went the extra mile to give us one. I figured they would finish the season with a quick in-game clip at the end of chapter 5. Didn't care much for the Episode 10 cutscene, but I enjoyed the other 9, so 1/10 isn't bad and we got an 11th free, so it will make up for it judging by the way people are talking about it.

So far, the chapters I've played have been enjoyable. The return to Harvester was enjoyable enough and the story did a good job explaining exactly why the Covenant were digging (though I'm not sure why they wanted to get to that artifact in the first place. Maybe to destroy it I guess?

The return to Warrens was a bit dull since it was mostly plot-filler content and there weren't any worthwhile enemies to boost that couldn't be gotten on other levels. It would've gone faster if I'd have had my jetpack though, so it's partially my fault for using the wrong loadout. The Rocket Launchers and Hunters at the very beginning were nice though. A quick and easy method for boosting for the Hunter Commendation.

Apex, as annoying as it is to get an accurate count of enemies for the S-Ops chart, is probably one of my favorite missions in the season. Littered with Ghosts and Warthogs plus a handful of Spartan IV NPCs that couldn't be killed. I ended up letting them drive while I gunned on the Warthog. Still bad at driving, but not nearly as terrible as they used to be. I love the last portion of the level though. Very epic and makes up for its lacking presence in the Campaign.

I'll get back on the other 2 levels soon.

Shorter posts? Fuck that. Word Walls for everybody!

Chapter 4- Returned to the Warrens. Still pointless plot-filler, but this time they gave me a Mantis and threw a ton of Watchers at me toward the beginning of the level. This makes it valuable to me for watcher boosting due to their consistency and the ease of killing them.

CHapter 5- About what I expected it to be. Smallest enemy count yet and by no means a challenging final fight, but I enjoyed it all the same. The gravity fluctuations at the end were an interesting little tidbit too.

Now than. The Epilogue... What. The. Fuck?!

[spoiler=Show]First of all, glad to see everybody made it. I was really expecting somebody to not make it out alive. Figured it would be a member of Majestic.

Second, Holy shit Dr. Halsey lost her arm. Obviously not a big deal, but an unexpected development all the same. Generally getting shot in the shoulder doesn't warrant amputation, especially since the place she was shot in is still on her body...

Now than, Dr. Halsey betraying Humanity... I don't believe this. There's no way. She birthed the Spartan Programs, the MJOLNIR program, human augmentations... everything she's ever done has been for the greater good of humanity. I understand her disliking of the UNSC and ONI, but she has to understand that attempting to wage war with either of them is only going to harm the entire species as a whole. Especially since she cares about the Spartans more than any other beings in existence and she knows John would be on the receiving end of any attack on the UNSC.

There has to be some sort of ultimatum. Just like how Dr. Halsey took advantage of Jul to speak to the Librarian in the first place, she no doubt intends to use him to discover these new Forerunner technologies as well. She's ultimately still a prisoner and knew she would be captured again upon exiting the Librarian's Chamber, so by dividing the two pieces she's guaranteed that the UNSC and the Covenant will be gunning for each other and this increases her chances of being rescued.

As far as what happens after she's rescued, I don't know. I have no doubt she's going to fight going back under arrest, possibly by fleeing again like she did in First Strike. If she somehow comes across the Master Chief again, I have no doubt she'll attempt to coerce him into abandoning Humanity for their own sakes.

The only thing that doesn't support this ploy theory of hers is her final line. She wants Revenge. Revenge against whom, exactly? Revenge against Humanity for betraying her after she saved them all? Revenge against the UNSC for sending a kill-order? ONI for condemning her in the first place? I would imagine the two people in all the world that she hates most, it would be Parangosky and Osman. Assuming the former is still alive, of course.

My best guess is that she wants to remove ONI's control on Humanity and return the power to the Human Race through the methods she used on Spartans, whom she claims to be the future of humanity.

That said, this is all just speculation. I could very well see her having her own ultimatum in any number of direction. Freeing Humanity, discovering the greatest mysteries of the Galaxy before her life is up, etc... The one thing I DON'T see her doing is turning her back on Humanity as a whole. I will have to dwell on the Epilogue some more.

The other question I have is exactly what could Dr. Halsey have over Jul that actually makes him cooperative? They both share a common disliking of ONI/Parangosky/Osman due to the events of Glasslands/Thursday War (Hell, it's very well possible they've even met before the events of Spartan Ops. Both were prisoner's aboard UNSC Port Stanley at the same time) and Jul is obviously aware of Halsey's capabilities as a Scientist but also her tendency for treachery, so it's kind of a double-edged sword in this situation. Much like Saren in Mass Effect, I'm starting to question his singular hatred of Humanity overall. He's abandoned the religious zealotry that drives the other Sangheili, but he's still very much opposed to Humanity having the Technology and capabilities of the Forerunner.

Too many questions. Not enough answers and absolutely no substantial evidence to back up any of it. All we know, Dr. Halsey is fed-up with the UNSCs shit.

Dark, I'm gonna PM you about the Epilogue so I don't clutter this Thread if that's cool.

I wish Palmer had just shot Halsey in the head because I have a feeling the story is going to take a turn for the even more stupid from here on out.

Yeah, I feel the same. The entire Epilogue was like "woah wtf" but not the good kind. I don't see how Halo 5 and 6 will be 'epic' or 'big' , if it revolves around Halsey's last statement in the Epilogue. Idk, I didn't like the ending of SpOps..
