Solo Insane Mode Walkthrough

Preperation: You must have first completed the game once to unlock this difficulty. Each time you see the declassify missions, accept them. If you die/reload you must accept them again unless you had hit a checkpoint. You should attempt these when you have a decent amount of time to play since it can take a lot of time just to complete 1 section.

Trick to doing it easier: There is a well known trick to pull off in online co op mode. While someone plays on insane, the other plays on casual. At the end of the mission, have the casual player leave. This will fix the scoring at the end for the stars. It will make things much easier. You can do it with multiple people but then it gets hard to depend on everyone. It might be best just having 2. This guide is for those who do not have this option or do not wish to use it.

Getting Stars: You have to get 3 stars on every single mission in every single chapter. You also have to complete all declassify missions on Insane. They go hand in hand, as activating the declassify mission gives you stars faster. In chapter select, you can see what missions you have done on insane and how many stars you have.

Reason for solo: It is actually easier to play by yourself. The AI does not die, they can be revived if downed, and actually can handle themselves well. They can take a lot more damage than you can. They seem to have infinite ammo which also helps.

Strategy: This guide is set up to try to help you utilize a plan for each section. There are many ways to complete them but this guide will generally only cover one. A lot of the time playing you will be hiding, staying away from the fight as your AI gets things done for you.

Death: This is going to happen very, very often. You need to realize that no matter how good you are at the game, you will die to something out of your control. Reloading and trying again will become common.

Checkpoints: There aren't very many, sometimes not at all. Most of the time you will be completing whole sections in one go. If you die, you will have to start all the way over.

Weapons: The chainsaw gun is usually the best bet. Little recoil, decent firepower, and the ability to execute. If it's a choice, you should always have this. Keep grenades handy too, don't waste them. Only use them when you can kill multiple enemies at once.

Randomized Enemies/Weapons: Sometimes the conditions will change. There are different sets of enemies, a weapon that changes every few reloads, etc. Not everything will always be the same. Keep in mind most of what I write here will be off of the success of whatever I am using/fighting against at the time. There will be times different enemies than expected will rush you. As you play, you will get used to this changing gameplay and start to not need any type of guide.

3 STAR GLITCH ON INSANE WITH CO OP

Want to skip this whole stupid guide and just get it easily? Have one player on Insane difficulty and the other on casual. The casual does all of the work. At the end of the level, have the casual player quit out. Now finish the level. When the stat screen comes up with the starts, invite the player in. As long as you haven't hit continue, they will get credit as well as you for 3 stars on insane. This is the easy way out and I highly suggest it over doing it solo.

CHAPTER 1: Baird's Testimony

Page 35 of Player Stats (Campaign)

Mission 1: Old Town

Declassified: Dark Wretches replace normal wretches

You'll encounter some enemies by a burning tree. Pretty easy first battle. There are a good amount of wretches you need to battle, be very careful as these ones explode when killed. Chainsawing won't instantly kill you when at full health, but it's not a great idea. Once enemies spawn you can go back to the big vehicle and hide there. Progress when you are able to and pick off enemies. Try to group kills with grenades if you can, as getting 3 stars is cutting it pretty close.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission1Hangback_zpsd9597074.jpg

Mission 2: Riverwalk District

Declassified:Finish before hammer of dawn strike in 4:00

This next area can be pretty difficult, especially with a timer. Run straight then go across the bridge. You will see a mortar as you go up the stairs to your left. Use this on enemies ahead. Chainsaw the wretches when they swarm. Pick off any enemies by staying back.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission2mortar_zps45a200fa.jpg

When you get to the turret gunner, run straight and hide by the wall. Now you can throw grenades if you have one or shoot them while in cover. Get to the top of the area and hide in the very back. Do not get on the turret, you will likely die. Help the AI get rid of the locusts. A door will burst open and you will need to now get away from the line of fire. Shoot at a safe distance and rush to the door when the mission marker shows up.

Mission 3: Museum Gardens

Declassified: Use Hammerbursts, Sawed-Off Shotguns, and One-Shots only

You will only be able to use the guns listed above. The Hammerburst has pretty bad recoil so you will have to start lower on an enemy and as you shoot, it will go up it's body. There are a lot of healing kantus in the area. When you get to where the battle starts, hang to the right and try to pick off the kantus enemies when they show up. Eventually you will clear them out. Be careful also of the One Shot enemies trying to snipe. Once you cleared out everything, run to where the snipers were. You will now have the one shot and have to kill an onslaught of enemies. Kill them but be alert of tickers. Sometimes you can get a double or more kill if the enemies are in a line.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission3Hide_zps5276e1ad.jpg

Mission 4: Great Hall

Declassified: Nemacyst will join the ground attack

Put the turrets on the right and left wings. There will be flying enemies that try to kamikaze you and your team. Sit very far back from where enemies are rushing to avoid them and see where they are about to drop. This will save you from a random instant death. There are only a couple waves, and it's pretty straight forward.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission4Setup_zps93035f25.jpg

Mission 5: Kashkur Wing

Declassified: Lancer wielding cyclops drones in the area.

Start the mission and enter. There is a turret across the way shooting at you. Run to the right and go to the right wing. Grab the sniper instead of the shotgun and run back to where you started in the area of the mission.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission5sniper_zpsfc07a46f.jpg

From here, snipe the turret and give support to the AI as they kill off the enemies. Near the end use your sniper to get some headshots. Once it's clear, get your shotgun and a shield (make sure you have grabbed the grenades from the starting area).

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission5HangBack_zpsa6a49380.jpg

You will be attacked by more locusts. Throw a grenade or two to get rid of them and watch out for the wretch enemies. There is a room in the back that is open, hide in here and defend until everything is dead.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission52ndPart_zpse3298fb1.jpg

Mission 6: East Wing

Declassified: Stop locust from destroying Nassar Embry's Armor

This is a wave based section. You have to protect the armor which is in front of you in a display.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission6Armor_zps7db378be.jpg

Wave 1

Grab the 2 turrets and face them in a position to watch the armor. Now run to the other side of the area and grab the other turret and bring it back. There is a Boomshot here, so grab it for the time being. A good placement is in all three gaps by the armor. Make sure you keep the Boomshot even when empty on ammo. Clear out everything and stay back, mostly fixing the turrets when needed and providing cover fire. When there are groups, use Boomshot and grenades.

Wave 2 (Checkpoint granted)

Now for the harder wave. Grab the Onxy container to refill your Boomshot to 6 shots. If you have time, grab the extra grenades on the right higher area via access from the stairs behind you (a left up the stairs). If you run out of grenades, there are Stim ones to heal you on a crate. This wave can be pretty frantic so try to stay alive while guarding the armor.

Reminder: Make absolutely sure you are activating the Declassified Mission every reload. It's very easy to forget.

Mission 7: Archives

Declassified: Serapede Eggs left intact will hatch, spawning more Serapedes to fight.

You will have to destroy all of the eggs.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission7eggs_zps09a30534.jpg

Locations

1. In front of you

2. In the ammo room nearby

3. At the end of the initial tunnel under the fan's shadow

4. Inside the first door on the right, look up to the right it's on the ceiling by the whole in the ground

5. In the same room, inside the hole in the ground

6. Look at the light in the same room with a dead body below it. The eggs are in the corner above the archway on the left of the door

7. When exiting the door with the body in front of it, you'll see it on the wall

8. Coming to a fork in the path, look right. Shoot the eggs in the corner

9 and 10. Opposite of the double doors with the lock, enter through that area. In the middle section there are 2 groups of eggs.

So fighting a ton of wretches an serapedes sound awful right? Not awful here. Once they all spawn, run all the way back to the area that is just an empty room with bricks on the ground. Go up the little ramp and now you cannot be hurt by anything. Once they are dead, you can finish the rest of the enemies off.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter1Mission7spot_zps81477c73.jpg

Mission 8: Vaults

Declassified: Heavy dust will reduce visibility

Once you open the doors and the enemies attack, you'll notice...well, it's hard to see anything actually. Make use of spotting. Press :ls: while aiming on enemies. If you press :ddown:, you can see some outlines sort of. Might help a little. Go ahead and drop back to the start where you were and let the expert AI take care of things while you provide cover fire. Since they are artificial, they are immune to this effect. Aim from the back and fire when red. Watch out for the guys with cleavers running in after you. They will kill you in two hits and they swing two hits at a time. Once cleared, look left as you run to get the Onyx pickup for a refill. When more enemies spawn, it's safe to say to run back to that room again. Not being able to see gives you a huge disadvantage on this difficulty because of the enemies that rush you with cleavers. If you really want to be safe, have your chainsaw gun and keep it reved up. When one rushes you, you will go into a duel and just have to tap :bbut: to win. You'll need to make use of your grenades when the maulers shows up. You are very much backed into a corner here. You might be stuck on this spot for a lot of deaths and reloads. What makes it worse is that you may still not even get the 3 stars. There are stim grenades you can throw to revive your fallen AI as well in the room you are hanging back in.

CHAPTER 2: Sofia's Testimony

Page 36 of Player Stats (Campaign)

Mission 1: Enfield Bridge

Declassified:Reduced ammo, no longshots, and additional Reavers to fight

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission1KindofSafe_zps7b9b38f6.jpg

Reduced ammo makes this section more stressful. Move up the left side, do not go straight forward on the bridge. Kind of hang low and your team will take care of business. You will want to attempt a few executions if you can for the stars. Once you get to the Reavers, you will really need to watch your step. Make use of the giant area and run around when the Reaver looks like it's after you. Let the AI do the damage. They have infinite ammo. If you are brave you can run all the way to the other side of the bridge and grab the turret. This is a short section but it can be difficult to get all 3 stars.

Mission 2: Courtyard

Declassified: Finish before poison gas deploys 5:15

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission2SNiper_zps69276949.jpg

Another timed mission. You will have to get your kills quickly. There are a lot of bigger enemies here. Run to the right and find the sniper. Sometimes it will be a One Shot. You can try to pick them off with headshots. Make sure you also kill the turret operator as well. You can peak over the shrubs easily. Then you will have to fight the raging enemies. Having 3 stars by now is easy and you likely feel it should be over, but it's not. You now have to run through a building with tickers and then fight a bunch of regular enemies before getting to the door. You cannot run past them all you must kill them.

Mission 3: R&D Labs

Declassified:Toxic fumes affect vision

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission3stayback_zpsd1b011df.jpg

This is a very straight forward section. Basically just stay back and don't bother running out to do anything except provide cover fire. This will be one of the easier sections. Just don't let any of the enemies rush in at you because one melee hit will kill you.

Mission 4: Monroe Commons

Declassified:Nemacysts attack beacon

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission4doorway_zps8c2739cf.jpg

Stay back in the first area like usual The bot will go behind a doorway and start getting another one open. It's important to behind the door. Chainsaw any enemies that come in and pick off others. The AI will take care of it all. The Nemacysts will come flying by, so make sure you shoot them so they do not damage the bot.

Outside, hang back behind and guard. You will have to shoot the Nemacysts again first then fight groups of enemies. The bot will move and you will have to fight off even more. There might be a lot of reloading, as there will be quite a bit of fighting going on. Enemies will change and sometimes the bot will even go to a different spot. Adjust with the changes and try your best

Mission 5: Atrium

Declassified:Fight with pistols only

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission5Entry_zps488c8adf.jpg

You might think the next area will be extremely difficult without any other weapons. If you think this, you are wrong. This is a short area and the only thing you may have a difficult time with is getting 3 stars, but even that just takes a couple of tries. If you are quick, you can grab the turret on your right near statue and set it up, then rush back behind the barriers. The pistol has almost no recoil so when you shoot, shoot quickly. There are 2 basic spawns of enemies. There will either be tons of wretches mixed in with other enemies, or the grenadier locusts.

Mission 6: Crash Site

Declassified: Serapedes and corpsers added to the attack

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter2Mission6_zps2a60b098.jpg

Wave 1: This will consist only of tickers, serapedes, and corpsers. Sometimes wretches will spawn too. It can be somewhat difficult, at times if you get overwhelmed. This wave will mostly just work on destroying your barriers. Well placed turrets can help with the extra annoying serapedes.

Wave 2: This is where there will be most of the enemies. There will be a lot of the bigger enemies here so you will have to be careful. It's a very big area, so if you feel overwhelmed to the point it looks like you could die, just run. You can run away and come back later when things settle down (your team taking care of it that is). Even with the amount of enemies you fight, you still might barely get the 3 stars.

Chapter 3: Paduk's Testimony

Mission 1: Amador Park

Declassified: Use Gnashers and Sawed-Off Shotguns only

This isn't such a bad type of weapon to be stuck with. When you get to where enemies spawn, there will be either maulers or corpsers. Either way it's fairly easy to maintain. You can try to let the AI team handle things but don't be afraid to run in a little closer.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission1_zps0d37daf1.jpg

Once you get a checkpoint and go through a gate, you will be fighting more enemies. Get in and help the AI defeat the corpser. There are enemies with guns farther away that are hard to hit with what you have, so slowly move up and let the AI take all the risk.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission12ndpart_zpsdff2ba56.jpg

Mission 2: Magadha Villa

Declassified: Locusts use smoke grenades to reduce visibility

There will be some smokey areas, but nothing you can't handle. Hang out by the door until the bigger enemies show up. You should try to grab a few executions along the way. If you can, grab a lancer that was dropped by enemies so you can get more range. Bigger enemies will show up, so take care of them at a safe distance. When you get to the next area, the outside will be completely smokey and you won't be able to see anything. Stay indoors until things clear up.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission2start_zps2dae50df.jpg

Mission 3: Soleno Villa

Declassified: Finish before explosives detonate in 5:15

You will have to pick up the ranged rifle near the start of this section (behind a box). Go for headshots while staying the maximum amount of distance away from the enemies. Take care of the ones on the balcony first. Once cleared, you get a checkpoint. Maulers will come in now. You will have no choice but to play merry go round with them while you and your team take them out. Do not worry about time as much because this section is not very long. Once you have taken them out, you will move on and face ragers. Keep your distance and shoot them with whatever works best for you. After the initial two who automatically rage, you should try for headshots to take out the others so that they don't also rage.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission3start_zpsa4c2ec8e.jpg

Mission 4: Windward Way

Declassified: Extra locusts will attack from behind

There is a lot of battling ahead. At the start you can literally just hang back and do nothing. Move forward when the coast is clear. Now go ahead and move forward. You should notice a green car eventually as you fight. If you find yourself in a tough stop, wedge yourself in the corner between it and the wall. Bloodmounts can't hit you here (though the enemies on top shoot but they miss often). You can keep your chainsaw ready for wretches. Move on from here and a wall will break down. Kill the Bloodmounts from a distance. When you move up you should see a sniper to your right. Grab it if it's there.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission4start_zpsf1cfc078.jpg

Kill the locust that is shooting the mortar when you get to him, then quickly run back over the broken wall and provide cover fire. When things are mostly cleared up, run to the little base and up the stairs where the mortar is. Try to use it against the last 2 Bloodmounts. If not, be careful of wretches and attack from the top.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission4staybackmort_zps6b464074.jpg

Mission 5: Risea Estate

Declassified: Locusts use One-shots to protect mortars

After accepting the mission, look for the sniper in the same room. You will have to kill mortar enemies that are high up on the balcony. There are also One Shot enemies trying to take yo and your team out. You should spot a turret to place ahead and kill any of the enemies rushing you. Once they are killed, you can focus on the enemies on the balcony of the mansion. You can die from enemies rushing you, one shots, and mortar shots which will sometimes surprise you. You must stay under some kind of cover if you want to survive. If you spawn the enemies you can go all the way back to the room you started in. This will make things easier as the AI will clear out all the ground mobs (you can get some shots in from your angle). After the mortars are clear, you can come out a little bit more to snipe. This makes this area extremely easy.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission5_zps4d2b95b4.jpg

Mission 6: Guest Bungalows

Declassified: Sentry guns and laser fences guarding the area

When you start, just make sure you shoot all of the turrets. Stay back and kill the initial enemies. Move to the inside of the building ahead and stay on the stairs and kill off any enemies incoming. Once you have done this, rush the mansion ahead down the street and hide inside the bottom area. You will be very safe here, even when the Reaver comes.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission6_zps09512b57.jpg

Mission 7: Elliot's Mansion

Declassified: Locusts use on-shots

You'll fight some enemies before you start actually guarding the bots against waves. This is a big area so it's fairly easy to run away if under pressure.

Wave 1: First wave is pretty basic. You can hang back with the bot if you want and be extremely safe here. There will be a time when you will get bored and need to run out and take care of the enemies.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter3Mission7_zps4c227260.jpg

Wave 2: Okay, now there are a lot more enemies here. Your bot is exposed and out in the open. Put your turret up near it. You will want to stay near the door where you can run back to safety if you need, plus normally the AI will stick around and help. After a bit you will face 2 beserkers. If you get lucky your AI will take one out without you having to even pick up a scorcher. When you get the scorcher, you can help by using it on the beserker while your team fires on it normally. After this you will finish the area.

CHAPTER 4: Cole's Testimony

Mission 1: Fortress

Declassified: Frag grenades planted around beach landing with reduced access to locust defenses.

Are you ready to die a lot? The beach is extremely difficult. You can die in mere seconds by taking a step or just being unlucky. Use the barricades to go straight and to a smoke grenade. There is a sniper in front of you. Grab it and run back to take cover. Snipe the turret operators and always watch out for things dropping out of the air. Once you are done you can move up closer.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission1Beach_zpsa37643e6.jpg

After the beach, go into the bunker with the turret on the right. Hide in here and let your AI do all the work providing cover fire if you want. After they are done taking out the enemies, you can put this level behind you.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission1Bunker_zpsd2a8901d.jpg

Mission 2: Container Terminal

Declassified: Finish before the artillery strike hits in 4:45

After the last mission, you will be relieved to know this next one is extremely easy. You can get in a mech to help you if you want, but to make sure yo have 3 stars you will have to focus on headshots/exeuctions/clusters kills.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission2_zps9546bbd5.jpg

Mission 3: Motor Pool

Declassified: Use Boomshields and Lancers only

You are given a shield and the stars are pretty easy to earn from this point. Just hang out with extra protection and move up slowly. Not much resistance here.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission3_zps57a170d8.jpg

Mission 4: The Cliffs

Declassified: Use torque bows and breechshots only

You start off with a lot of distance between you and the locusts. Pick them off and take your time. An elevator will lower and you have to fight off a few more. You will get a checkpoint and be going up an elevator without any cover. Your cover is your team! Stay behind them and try to get out a few shots with your bow. What you really want to do is pay attention to the turret and make sure you kill anyone going for it. This will cause you the most trouble if you don't pay attention.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission4_zpsfaebbcc2.jpg

Mission 5: Central Base

Declassified: Strong wind affects movement

There is a very obvious area at the start with a lot of weapons. Grab the longshot and lancer. It will be extremely hard to see anything when you get to the enemy encounter. If you go to the right you'll find a little building that has a boomshot in it. You can hide in here and see a lot better. Snipe enemies with headshots to help with your stars. This fight is the only encounter and there is a chance that you will only fight normal enemies and only get 1 star. Replay the section if this happens to you. The spawn you want will have tickers and boomers, and kantus put into the mix.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission5start_zps9aac81f8.jpg

Mission 6: Central Control

Declassified: Slower health regeneration resulting in death and lights are out

It's going to be dark but not impossible to see. Take the shield in your path and use it to defend yourself while you stick back and slowly move up when possible. Your AI can clear out the first room without much of an issue. The next area will be a hallway. Move up and take the first right to find a side area. This has grenades you can toss into the group of enemies. You can use this as your hiding spot or you can help from this point too.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission6_zpsadf7762a.jpg

Mission 7: Beach

Declassified: Locust use oneshots

You will want to find the bunker that is the farthest away from the beach. It looks like you get to reverse your roll here from the first section. Put the turrets on the left and right to help guard you just in case. Grab the sniper and rest assured you have an onyx ammo cache in arm's reach.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/Chapter4Mission7_zps0b00a6a5.jpg

Wave 1

Snipe when the opportunity presents itself and let your AI take on the onslaught. You want to focus on any oneshot enemies. The first wave is extremely short.

Wave 2

This wave brings in 2 boats so that you must face against more enemies. It's still very manageable in the area you are. Repeat your same tactics as before, enjoying the space you have to work with.

Wave 3

You almost thought maybe you were done, but there are a few late to the party! They all boat-pooled so be prepared for a heavier wave to take care of. The safe haven you have been using starts to get overrun at times. You will have to escape if you get overwhelmed. In this case, it might be best to run up and use a turret for the first part and then eventually retreat back. Move your turrets ahead too in order to help the AI. This can be a pretty tough wave as you will start running out of ammo. Eventually the wave will thin out and you can finish off the easier enemies.

CHAPTER 5: Baird's Testimony (Continued)

Mission 1: Wharf District

Declassified: Extra locust resistance in the area

You will see a bunch of guns and ammo as you near the first encounter. Pick up the Markza rifle to help in this next area. There will be a turret ahead. Duck behind the wall and shoot off enemies when the turret isn't firing at you. You can destroy it if you want, but it will take a good portion of your ammo. Once you kill an enemy on it, another one will jump on. Stay in this spot until you clear everything out. If you move forward there will be another spawn another group of enemies. Be sure to spawn enemies then run back to safety. The declassify mission actually adds quite a lot more enemies. To help you, there is a longshot by the stairs of the first turret. Grab this before moving on to the next part.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission1_zps371869c7.jpg

As you move ahead you will get to a mortar enemy. You have to be extremely careful here because somehow the mortar will be able to hit you in places you don't think is possible (while under cover trying to snipe him for example). If you really want to be safe, stay as far back as you can. Hiding in the nearby bathroom helps a lot. There are still a lot of enemies, and just because you kill the mortar enemy doesn't mean you won't get killed by another one. Once the enemy spawns, run back again. They literally just keep coming. You're only safe when the objective gets crossed off.

Mission 2: Parade Grounds

Declassified: More powerful locust resistance

Grab some weapons by the float and start your way through the door (turning the wheel). A serapede will come under. You really need to get as far away as you can. If this enemy is after you, you will die almost every time. It is extremely fast, even if you roadie run it can pass you. Run as much as you can leading it around your AI team. After it's finally dead, you will still have to run around watching out for wretches and a corpser. Afterwards you set up tripwires for the next section.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission2_zps7749f5ad.jpg

Mission 3: Upper State Street

Declassified: Heavy locust and rager offensive

You won't get to this declassify mission until after you have already taken care of some locusts. This is one of the hardest sections in the game. You should grab the turret and place is in the way of the room on the left. Have it facing the bot. Now go across and grab the one-shot and place it in the left room. Go to the opposite side and grab the booshka to the left of the stairs (going down). Grab the Onyx Ammo Cache if you want for a grenade. Trigger the section and go to where you dropped the one-shot. When the red car starts going down, shoot a booshka grenade into it to close it. Now you must switch from closing holes to using the one-shot on enemies. The maulers are very important to take out. If a rager gets close, they will kill you in one hit. This section is overwhelming and will take several attempts to complete.

Mission 4: State Street Rooftops

Declassified: Use Boltoks and Longshots only

When the enemies start spawning, go back down the ramp and let them come to you. You can easily manage to kill them as they run at your team. As you move up you can maintain your distance aiming for headshots. When you see the floating enemies, shoot them. Slowly progress so that you don't get overwhelmed. When you go up another ramp, you will be attacked again. After defeating these enemies, you'll fight flying ones with guns.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission4begin_zps7952da89.jpg

You will hit a checkpoint after killing the enemies. A reaver will spawn. Get close but not too close. On the left is an incline and a wall you can hide behind. Shoot from the side killing the flying enemies. Your team will be able to take care of the reaver by themselves, but you can provide some damage as well.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission4Reaver_zps3be08e9e.jpg

Mission 5: First Avenue Rooftops

Declassified: Start with no ammunition for boltoks and longshots

Your guns get replaced with empty guns. To the right before going on the bridge, you'll find a cleaver in a body. When you start getting close to the entrance of the door beyond the bridge, quickly run back. You will either fight other enemies with cleavers or locusts with guns. The guys with the cleavers are much harder to deal with. Once you get to the next area get on a mortar and let them have it. There are actually two up there so keep using them. Finish off the enemies and you're done.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission5start_zpse21514e7.jpg

Mission 6: Museum Square Rooftops

Declassified: Finish before reaver barrage in 3:00

When you go through the door look to your right. There will either be grenades or a booksha. Use these to your advantage when there are groups of enemies. Look straight down the narrow path and kill enemies as they come at you. You may have to take a few times to get the timing right (sometimes you might run out of time and die).

Mission 7: Overlook

Declassified: Greatly reduced visibility

The room with the turrets and crossbow is a great place to hide out. Put the turrets in the room facing out of the left doorway. Lay some traps with the crossbows, then start the wave.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter5Mission7_zps04f0c0fb.jpg

Wave 1

An easy enough wave, stay inside the room and shoot out of the window giving backup fire for your team.

Wave 2

This wave is vicious. There will eventually be bloodmounts and even a couple of reavers. Keep fixing the turrets as they break down. Don't let yourself die because you left yourself open to an attack from the window. Just make sure you know where the enemies are at all times. The retro lancer is a great weapon for this section because it is very powerful (with horrible recoil). This is mean to for short distance fire fights, which is exactly what you're in.

CHAPTER 6: Present

Mission 1:

Declassified: Use Cleavers only

You won't get the declassify mission until after clearing the room you start in. Hide up one of the sections with stairs that overlook the middle. Defeat the enemies. Circle around to the declassify mission.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission1_zps0f34a11c.jpg

Now what you want to do is hang back and only run. Your AI team will clear out all of the enemies for you.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission1part2_zps14cbffee.jpg

Mission 2: Halls of Judgement

Declassified: Locust smoke grenade traps reduce visibility

The whole first pat of the section is killing the flying locust that shoot at you and explode upon death. Clear this section out by staying far back and using long ranged weapons and/or relying on your team.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission2start_zpsb17d2b25.jpg

You get the declassify mission after clearing out the enemies and opening the door. There will be a smoked filled room after an enemy crashes through a door. Stay back and take cover while your team rushes in the room. Remember, you can mark enemies by pressing :ls: to keep track of them. Clicking it constantly while looking around the room will reveal. Also :ddown: helps outline things a little better. As you progress you will be assaulted again. Hide behind where you pick up the Onyx Ammo Cache. It's very easy to die randomly in this next section. Stay back and kill everything from a distance.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission2Second_zps07fb561f.jpg

Mission 3: Terrace

Declassified: Health doesn't regenerate

This declassify makes it very important that you pick up the stim-gas grenades in the same room, as well as the ones that will be scattered in your path. As you move along the stairs, run back to where it's safe if things look dangerous. You can snipe a little bit when you get to that point, but staying back and killing what comes around is best. You can easily get 3 stars and have no trouble with this area if you take it slow.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Missione3_zps569f5a40.jpg

Mission 4:

Declassified: Taking damage impairs sight

Set up by placing the turret ahead of you on the stairs and using the tripwire crossbow in places you see fit. After a bunch of enemies, you will start to move forward and more will attack you. Stay back and destroy them.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission4_zps716ff12e.jpg

You will get a checkpoint and be able to stock up on ammo. If your turret survived, you can bring it with you. Kick the door open and get back under cover. Hang out, firing when wanted at the enemies. They mostly stay back as your team attacks. Just to remind you, the turret can make/break your 3 stars if it kills too many enemies.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission3part2_zps3bd73f6e.jpg

Mission 5: Main Entrance

Declassified: Use boomshields and sawed-offs only

You have somewhat limited ammo here, so hang out by the door you kick open and let your team handle things. When you get rushed by an enemy it should be very easy to take them out with your weapons in hand. When there are some last enemies at the bottom of the stairs, get close enough so that your team gets closer and try to be careful not to die in this last area.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission5_zpsd9cf4dc0.jpg

Mission 6: Great Staircase

Declassified: Finish before ammo dump explodes in 6:00

Grab the boomshot and other ammo from the right before accepting the declassify mission. When you start it, look ahead and see an E-hole opening. Shoot the boomshot to kill everyone. Now make your way down the stairs and be very careful as there are some fairly tough enemies ahead. You will have plenty of time even on insane, so don't worry so much about being patient to get things done correctly.

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission6start_zpse941d6ed.jpg

Mission 7: Plaza for the Tyran Dead

Declassified: Elite locust defend Karn

This is it. You have made it this far! Will all your practice of avoiding damage pay off here? This is going to be a rough battle and you will die multiple times. You have to shoot the boss!

http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/tygrt7/GearsJudgeChapter1/Chapter6Mission7_zpsa1334c6f.jpg

Phase 1

Shoot the boss while in cover. You must actually shoot Karn (at least near him). When he stops for the fire grenades to be thrown at you, shoot the glowing part around him. This is his weak point. After enough damage he will retreat.

Phase 2

Enemies will surface, so take as many of them out as you can. Keep on the move so that you don't get killed by a torque bow. Once they are defeated, Karn will come down. Now he will shoot diggers instead of the fire grenades. When he does this, you must shoot the glowing leg. There will be times when he rushes at you and can kill you by running you over. Keep running until he stops doing this attack. After you have finally given enough damage, he will retreat once more. Flying enemies will come at you and your team, so take this time to run around the map to grab ammo and a boomshot. You will find an onyx cache in a crack in the wall as well if you haven't already seen it. Now you will be fighting ragers and other big enemies. Use the boomshots/grenades to try to take them out (before they rage).

Phase 3

For the last phase, just finish off the enemies and shoot Karn when you have the chance. He doesn't really do anything new here. After the beast he is riding on stumbles and he can't move, keep shooting Karn until the cut scene.

Looks pretty good but you didn't take into account the different random enemy spawns.

Like for the second one you mention Wretches but it's possible to go up against snipers instead.

:whs Well said. Also, I meant for me to run the Insane playthrough by myself for the same reasons Tyger mentioned. Some friends can be careless or just plain crazy going in, guns blazing.

Nice guide so far. I finished it in Solo and actually found it to be very easy. In fact, this is probably the easiest Gears game on the hardest difficulty. For me personally, I found that always having a Markza made the game a whole lot easier.

Another thing I found helps out a lot is that instead of putting sentries in spots that they will shoot at enemies, try to put them in a way that blocks the enemies from even getting to you (great for Cole's last section if you sit up in the bunker where the longshot and onyx ammo cache spawn and block both entrances with the gnasher sentries.)

Thanks for feedback. I will note that sometimes enemies and weapons change. I know they are more of one or the other. I have reloaded checkpoins up to 20 times and saw no change. Most the strategies will work out, but if you get a different set of enemies you can still utilize your own tactics or just reload til you get it ;)

Chapter 1 - Mission 6

Needs a better strategy.

Simply staying back doesn't get you three stars.

I only got 2 as of now as well, I was planning to go back to that one. It's been the most difficult spot in the first 2 chapters so far. Well, that and Chapter 2 Mission 2. Being timed makes it extremely difficult.

yes its similar to Horde mode in GOW3.

i havent tested out to see if it actually makes the enemies weaker if you keep dying, or if its completely random. like if you died 10 times, instead of Reapers and Corpsers its just regular locust

looking good so far, would love a guide on how to beat karn, he's made every oter chapter look like a breeze, think i've already retried more on him than i did the rest of the game, also for most of the game i've used the lancer with chainsaw sawn off combo.

Chainsaw is fantastic as while using it it's very hard to actually die, just make sure you don't use it when your getting surrounded., sawn off is great for 1 shotting anything including boomers, maulers, ragers, bloodmounts etc thats all about knowing when to attack them

I finished it yesterday. He's part is the hardest part of the game by far, specially because you have no ckeckpoints for the entire fight.

What you want to do is that. Damage him until he climbs the building, now go hide on the opposite side of the arena. Focus on the Therons with Torque Bows. They are the only threat here. Stay hidden and try to take them as fast as possible using the Lancer. The boss will not shoot at you when he gets down, only use the Digger, so just stay far away from him and kill everyone.

Also, get the Boomshot and 4 frag grenades. DO NOT FORGET it, the Boomshot is the key to victory here. Now, after you kill everything and damage his leg, same tactic as before, stay far away and try to take the Grinders ASAP with the Lancer. Damage them as much as you can so your team mates can kill them or kill them yourself if possible.

This time the boss will shoot at you, but not much. So always be far away and near cover. Now here's the key to victory. Boomshot those fuckers that get enraged. Boomshot their asses, frag their asses, and if they enrage, unload the freaking lancer on them, try to bait them for your team mates, just never, never let them get near you.

After you kill everything you can damage the boss again, be careful with his spit, it can kill you from far away, just run to another cover when he uses it with you. After you damage him some more, he will summon the final and more brutal wave. A lot of Therons with Torque Bows, some more enraged creatures and on top of that he will be shooting at you.

Now what you want to do is forget that the boss even exists, kill those Therons immediately! They can hit you from far away, they have an amazing aim, they are the real threat here. Run, hide, kill them. after that take the other enemies and when everything is dead, the boss is a piece of cake

Took me 3 hours to score the kill, the real secret is using the boomshot for the enraged enemies.

The key points here are:

- Always be on the other side of the arena, never let the boss get close to you. Your team mates should always be between you and the boss / enemies if possible, so they don't focus as much on you.

- If you see them down and you can help, DO IT! Pay attention if there's 2 or 3 of them down. If it happens, you wanna help them asap, the more people moving around in the arena, the less you are shot at.

- Focus on enemies before the boss, always clear the arena before damaging him.

- Boomshot! Enraged enemies are your worst enemy here, because you have to leave cover if they get close, so kill them fast before they can enrage.

- Never run out of ammo. If you get to 200 bullets, start planning a run around the ammo supply. Never let your ammo drop bellow 100 bullets.

Does anyone have any idea how you're supposed to do the declassified mission on Insane difficulty on the 3rd stage (Upper State Street) of Chapter 5 (Baird's Testimony)? There just seems to be an endless supply of Ragers, and inevitably sooner or later, either I die or the beacon gets destroyed. Help?

After awhile you will see he has a set pattern.

First round he will shoot his turrets and they will get hot, this will give you time to shoot them. After a bit the Shibboleth will stick its "abdomen" in the air. Shoot the Incendiary Grenade Launcher (it's bright orange). Once he goes to the building he'll call out one Mauler, a bunch of Theron guards, and a few grenadiers. I just kept moving trying to kill as many as possible. Your bots will take them out but they will try and try to kill torque you. You should have the Boomshot and grenades at this point so they won't get close.

Round two he will move in a square pattern. Watch him come down and stay away, giving you plenty of space to shoot at his mechanical leg as it fires diggers. They shouldn't be a problem if your at a distance. Stay on the move, Your bots should being doing some work here for you. I only revived one if all of them were down, they will revive each other and they are invincible.

Round three he will jump off the building towards you. Be cautious of this. This is the bread and butter of the fight. You should be at two stars if declassified is on. I tried to use all four rounds of the Boom before this so the Onyx Ammo will max my ammo fast. Karn will not do much besides lay down a lot of fire. This is where you should finish the three stars by killing locust. If you kill them to fast he will call more. That sucks. Fast and efficiently wound the Shibboleth an max your stars.

Patience is key. Let the bots do work for you since you get credit for their kills. Hope this helps.
