Introduction

Microsoft Minesweeper for Windows Phone 8 is the second official minesweeper game on Windows Phone. Unlike the previous one, and the same game for Windows 8, this one requires much more work to unlock all the achievements, if you start fresh and have not accumulated gameplays on Windows 8. However, if you already played a lot on Windows 8 and already met the requirements, you can just unlock many of the achievements, including all of the most time-consuming ones, as you run the game on the phone for the first time.

Walkthrough

All the achievements in this game are loosely connected and let's pick them one by one!

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/1.jpgHappens to Everybody (10:gsicon:)

Trigger your first mine on your phone.

This will definitely unlock especially if you prefer the highest difficulty. :D

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/10.jpgBomb Squad (10:gsicon:)

Correctly flag 500 mines.

This will naturally unlock while you try to unlock other achievements. The counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game. Just play a game and flag one more mine if you already met the requirement. If you want to accelerate the progress, you can start a custom game with setting board size and number of mines to max, flip a few tiles at first (very important! or it won't count), switch to flag mode in the menu, and flag every tile on the board. Then just remove a very few flags and intentionally lose the game. Since the max number of mines of a custom board is 667, you can unlock this achievement in one go.

Another important point is that this achievement progress tracker only counts the mines flagged when you use "Modern" theme. Mines flagged when you play with "Garden" theme won't add to the total.

Earn 10 Medals across a Windows 8 device and your phone.

Earn 20 Medals across a Windows 8 device and your phone.

There is a medal system separated from the achievement system in this game. You will be awarded a medal when you meet the requirement of the medal. The counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game.

Important note: In the first (Dec. 27, 2013) version, you must win the 20th (or 10th for Earning Your Stripes) medal on your phone to unlock this achievement. If you already missed that, please wait for the next update.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/13.jpgGot the Stats to Prove it (10:gsicon:)

Win 100 boards on Easy, Medium or Expert.

The counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game. If you already won this number of games on Windows 8, just win one more game on the phone and the achievement will unlock. If you start all fresh, the fastest way is to play 100 boards on easy difficulty.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/14.jpgYou are the Boss (10:gsicon:)

Win a game on the custom board.

Start a custom game, set the size of field to maximum and number of mines to minimum. It is possible that you win the game on the first click! If not, just a few more clicks and you get the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/15.jpgPath to Perfection (10:gsicon:)

Play 1,000 boards.

See Got the Stats to Prove it. The difference is that you are not required to win. It will come naturally if you play a lot; if you want to accelerate the progress, just start an easy board (because the loading time is the shortest), and intentionally lose the game on the second click. Start a new game and repeat. Note that custom boards and play same board do not add to the total so never use these two options!

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/16.jpgNot AGAIN! (10:gsicon:)

Trigger 100,000 mines.

The game adds the number of mines not correctly flagged in a round to the counter. For example, if you play a game with 99 mines, it will add 99 to the counter if you intentionally lose the game on second click. If you play a lot, this will naturally unlock. The counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game. Play one more game and intentionally trigger a mine if you already met the requirement to unlock the achievement instantly.

Fastest grinding method credits to @Uprisen257:

Start a custom game with max board size and max mines (667 mines), trigger a mine intentionally on your second click. Just choose "replay same board" to directly start a new game without any loading and choosing time. By this way, 667 mines are added to the counter every few seconds, and the achievement will be unlocked in ~5 minutes if you started all fresh.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/17.jpgSwept the Ceiling (5:gsicon:)

Win a game on any difficulty while holding the phone so that the screen is facing the ground.

Lay on your bed, face the ceiling and win a round. What a nicely designed achievement! :D

Remember that if you turned off screen rotation in system settings, this achievement cannot be unlocked! You must turn it on while you try to unlock this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/18.jpgThree Good Days (5:gsicon:)

Play the same difficulty 3 days in a row.

Do as the description. Make sure that you are connected to Xbox LIVE or it probably won't count. Also, it seems that the game in fact record your play in a 24-hour cycle, so you must play a board on the same difficulty in 3 consecutive 24-hour period, not 3 natural days. Also, in order to make sure you unlock this achievement, I suggest that you win the game (you can do this on easy difficulty) and successfully exit to main menu after victory, becuase this game may crash on victory animation as of the first version.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/19.jpgNo Stone Unturned (5:gsicon:)

Safely uncover 100,000 tiles.

The fastest way to accumulate numbers of tiles uncovered is to use custom mode, set numbers of tiles to maximum while numbers of mines to minimum. It only takes a few clicks, even just only one click, to reveal 710 (30 * 24 - 10) tiles. Also, the counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game. Play one more game and uncover one more tile (you won't trigger a mine in the first click) if you already got the required stats to unlock the achievement instantly.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/2.jpgGood Start (10:gsicon:)

Complete a minefield for the first time on your phone.

Just win a round (for example, easy difficulty) on the phone.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/20.jpgCan't Leave It Behind (5:gsicon:)

Complete 10,000 boards or begin a game on a Windows 8 device and finish it on phone.

See Got the Stats to Prove it if you already accumulated this number of victory on Windows 8. If you haven't got this many, just start a game on Windows 8 (make sure you are connected to Xbox LIVE), make a few moves, and quit the game. Then open the game on Windows Phone, make sure you are connected to Xbox LIVE, and select the same difficulty. You will be prompted if you want to continue the progress from cloud save, just confirm it. Win the game and the achievement will be unlocked.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/3.jpgSavior of the World (10:gsicon:)

Win a game on each board on your phone.

Win a game on each difficulty. This may also be unlocked when you try to unlock other achievements.

As of the first version, the counter shares with Windows 8 version of this game. Win one more game on your phone to unlock the achievement if you already won at least one game of each difficulty on Windows 8.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/4.jpgGood Memory (10:gsicon:)

Complete a minefield on your phone without using any flags.

Start a new game on easy difficulty, complete the game without marking mines but flip all the other tiles.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/5.jpgSerious Business (10:gsicon:)

Uncover a square touching 6 or more mines. No "play same board" or custom board allowed.

This achievement will be unlocked immediately when you flip a tile and reveal a number 6, and it can only be unlocked by directly flipping the tile containing the number 6. It will come naturally if you play a lot of expert boards. If you want to accelerate the progress, you can use the Windows 8 version (you must be connected to Xbox LIVE with the same account), start a expert board, and intentionally lose the game, then choose to view the board for existing mines. If there is no number 6 on the board, start a new game and repeat until you find a number 6. After you find a number 6 on the board, memorize the position (the best way is to flip the tile directly next to the number 6, but do not flip the tile containing the number 6), and choose to replay the same board. Do a few clicks on the board (do not reveal the tile containing number 6), and quit the game. Then use your phone, start by choosing expert board, and confirm to load the progress from cloud. Try your best to directly flip the tile containing the number 6 on your phone and the achievement is yours. You only have one chance on your phone since no "play same board" is allowed! If you failed, you must repeat the process from the beginning.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/6.jpgFlag Happy (10:gsicon:)

Place a flag on every single tile of a board in classic mode.

Do whatever it requires to unlock this. :p The fastest way is to start a round on easy difficulty, switch to flag mode, and flag all the tiles.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/7.jpg1 2 1 (10:gsicon:)

Complete 1-2-1 pattern within 3 seconds and without chording 20 times.

Skill and luck based. The classic 1-2-1 pattern could be found in most games, especially high difficulty boards. When you see the 1-2-1 pattern in a game, react fast to flip the tile that doesn't contain a mine (the one directly next to the number 2). Repeat 20 times to unlock this achievement.

Fast grinding methods credits to @Arsenic 17:

Start a med-sized board. First click in the middle part of the board, which usually can reveal a large area and some 1-2-1 patterns. If no 1-2-1 pattern is revealed, just intentionally lose the game and start a new one to see if any 1-2-1 pattern can be revealed after first click. After you find one, immediately reveal the tile directly next to the number 2 within 3 seconds, and the achievement counter will go up by 1. Intentionally lose the game, and choose to play the same board (you have to memorize where you started at, and where is the 1-2-1 pattern located). Repeat 20 times and the achievement will be unlocked within few minutes.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2909/9.jpgRoom to Breathe (30:gsicon:)

Uncover 20 tiles in one move. No "Play same board" or custom board allowed.

This achievement requires you to reveal 20 or more tiles in one click. Since custom borads are not allowed, medium or expert difficulty boards that have a large size is an ideal place to unlock this achievement. It will come naturally if you play a lot. If you want to grind this achievement, just start a medium or expert board, and click on the middle of the board at first. Typically this achievement will unlock at once; if not, intentionally lose the game and start a new one. Repeat until you get this achievement.

Conclusion

Windows 8 version of this game had been released for more than one year. During this long period of time, I believe many people already accumulated enough gameplay statistics to unlock many of the achievement of this mobile version at once. You need to do some clean-up for the special achievements which are required to be done on the phone for the full 200:gsicon: achievement. Besides these special ones, if you didn't played much before, just play on your computer and your phone whenever and wherever possible.

Wouldn't mind more info on a 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 move as I have no idea what it means!

When you see 1-2-1 the squares next to the ones, have bombs. 1-2-2-1, the twos. I'm not sure what you have to do for it to count towards the tracker though. Clear the area around them? Mark the bombs?

First of all: The "trigger 100.000 mines" achievement does count every mine, not just disarmed ones. Just start a custom game with 30x24 tiles and 667 mines. Let a mine detonate. Now you see where the "same board again" button is. Push it and keep tapping on the same spot! This way you will die instantly and instantly reload the board without having to do anything else. If you do it correctly you have around 20.000 mines triggered PER MINUTE! 5 Minutes and you're good to go ;p

Second: When I earn 10 medals on the phone and THE SAME 10 on Windows 8, will they accumulate to 20 medals or stay at 10? (having the same question about Microsoft Mahjong, should be the same answer) :o

Indeed nice found! About the medal one, they calculate the total, Windows 8 + Windows Phone 8. So there is a glitch... If you already won over 10 medals on Windows 8, you cannot unlock the achievement! The 10th (and 20th) medal must be won on Windows Phone to unlock the achievement, or you will see something like 21/10 and 21/20 on the progress tracker and the achievements won't unlock. This is the situation I'm now stucked in, and I already posted this glitch to their official forum at Xbox.com. Luckily Microsoft employees regularly check forum posts and try to fix the glitches in the next version... Generally, these games are updated at a time cycle of 2~3 months, so if you are stuck with these achievements related with medals, please wait for the next update...
