ConfusedGeek
Co-op can be set to easy, normal or hard. And, in order to count towards "Tough as nails" it has to be set to hard. Versus has no difficulty setting (since you have human opponents). And, yes, the versus games still count even if there aren't any opponents at your rank (and you specified your rank only when you launched). We got the achievement for a friend purposely de-leveling our secondary slots and keeping the versus AI at rank 1 (i.e. no pesky high level abilities). We didn't have any 'recent players' in our XBL list, and didn't see any opponents that even appeared to be human. You have to finish both sides on hard (which is a total b*tch) or on versus. The audio logs are common to all of your characters. Actually, the "Tough as nails" progress is common to all of your chars, too (unlike the story completion acheivements). So, you can simply complete those levels needed with your new slot. Sadly, the game does NOT show you which dificulty/mode you completed the levels on, so unless you kept track of which were on hard/versus, there isn't a way to determine which ones you need to re-do. I have just put up an Audio Log Guide -- Complete/Final thanks i got tough as nails. had to play it again. wasnt too bad.
llll epic llll
Afterwards start Versus mode. It is important you play on Versus mode from the start of the campaign if you want the easiest time. This gives you more XP, ensures you unlock the needed Audio Logs, and potentially will make your campaign run faster. This isn't true. You can get all the audio logs playing campaign on hard and skipping versus all together. In the long run it would save time and the frustration of dealing with the online lag. A. Gamer
You can get all 74 audio logs in custom 1v0 freeplay. Not a single one of the audio logs requires a certain rank or level, or playing the campaign, challenges or online. There are 16 that are mission/level based (for winning each mission/level), there are 16 that are objective based (for satisfying all of the primary objectives on each mission/level), and the remaining 42 are randomly awarded for wins on any level on which you have already won the mission specific or objective specific audio logs, even the same one 42 times in a row, in a custom 1v0 freeplay. Although, I will agree that playing online (either co-op or versus) is a wise decision, since not only do you get an experience bonus, you are also awarded 2 audio logs per win, effectively cutting your required missions/levels from 72 down to as few as 36. But since it is unlikely that you will be able to shut-out the enemy on all 8 of the defense missions/levels, you will probably have to replay those a couple times (possibly on custom freeplay) to pick up those pesky objective based audio logs. Tyger7
I really did think Online Versus was far easier to play. You play against bots for the most part and sometimes a few humans, rarely did I see full groups. What happens then is the humans normally side with you. I hardly got stuck on any of the missions, though maybe 2 made me replay multiple times. Epic: Saw your PM to me, haven't gotten around to checking things out. Been quite busy. Maka: I'll link your Challenge thread in the guide, I'm too busy to make my own so thank you for taking the time to. A.Gamer: Thanks for clearing up the Audio Log stuff. I literally got 5/11 and had it complete by 5/13 (since it passed midnight!). I got the Audio Logs without any issues, seeing as I played Versus after getting bored of playing solo. I guess that is why I have been highly suggesting Versus, because I got all the Audio Logs quite quickly doing it. I hardly ever lost and never bothered to "change sides" if losing. I'll add your link to the guide as well to clear it up for people, nice research.
Gor1lla
Nice Guide so far, but you should seperate Step 1 into Challenges and Campaign. Also you dont need to do the 1 and 2 Star Challenges with one character and then create a new one to do 1-3. If you do all the challenges with a different character the Weapon Attachements will be unlocked for the first, too.
Restless Energy
Thanks, great guide. Currently working on time to start another character and tough as nails. Shame there's no way to track the latter I can't remember which maps I've won

FiReStOrM1604659682
Yeah, my brother. I'm always looking for a good co-op game and i thought this could be it. Also, my connection to live is sometimes shaky and isn't always a pleasant gaming experience. Sorry for hijacking the thread, Tyger. http://www.co-optimus.com BTW great looking guide. Will use this for sure when i get my copy. Edited June 22, 2011 by FiReStOrM^

Mike Langlois
Just an FI, I just got tough as nails having the options set to Co-op and hard. Its alot easier when its 6-8 humans v AI. Also, why cant we co-op challenges because they are a pain in the ass? Level 2 objective one, cant seem to hack the stupid box without getting 6 shotguns up my ass before I'v managed to get away. Tips?
Fried Cola
guide is ok. Some descriptions need a little work. my main complaint is it should be split and organized between stuff you can do easily solo vs stuff that's easy to boost with a partner. XP boosting for example. An awesome no hastle method is to set up a private match on the terminal level with an operative on the security side and an engineer on the rebel side and to take turns placing and removing hack boxes on the terminal. Once you get the hang of it, the person playing security gets 8000+ while the rebel usually gets 10,000+. one thing that ought to be changed is saying to save the 3 star challenges for last. I didn't check to see if you had to start them all over again by making a new character, but I'd suggest doing all 3 stars for escort, defense, and objective first and save parkour for last. Parkour doesn't have enemies that get unfairly better as you level up. That being said, you can also make the challenges with enemies easier if you sell off your characters attributes. You lower your characters level by 1 every time you do that and the CPU is much less aggressive vs. lower level characters.
Orrest92
Note: You can also pick any class and just shoot them out of disguise. This achievement may unlock without you even being aware you were doing it. This did not work for me or any of my 5 friends ive played with. Manb3arSquirrel
Could someone tell me where in the menu I need to select to enter a Versus game instead of a normal Campaign mission? I only saw it in one place, but it is in an un-selectable color, and I can't choose it. UPDATE: Found out what was wrong and time seemed to solve this issue... Sorry for the forum clutter. :L Edited October 16, 2011 by Manb3arSquirrel
Tetrarc
Just a quick note for anyone just starting the game (like myself): it is not necessary for any other players to be in the game while you are going for Tough As Nails. The Brink community appears to be just a handful of people now and I could rarely find other players to play with online. However, playing and winning every mission set to Versus garnered me the achievement, even though no one else was in my game.

x117 II Shikari
One of the worst games I have played in a while Saw it for £2.99 in game so I bought it thinking I had my self a bargain hahaha. Hard mode is NOT POSSIBLE with a rank 4 character. You get shot from nowhere and can't get withing 20 feet of the objective so don't even try! I am just going to try it in online versus, even know nobody actually plays this game online

gladbecker82
The Game is totally broken if you play solo so saying 4/10 Difficulty while getting 1000g offline is ridiculous, anyone else saying its appropriate is bullshitting themselves. AI is full of Fail and you die by 2 hits even on easy and need to waste a full Mag on an enemy to kill him. I am almost as mad as in World at War on Veteran, but atleast there were Checkpoints, in Brink there is only One Startspot which is also horrible Design Decision. I see how much i can squeeze out of it but 1000g will be impossible for me.
