Finite Reign
Yah, this game wasn't good. The game play was terrible, the story was choppy, the animation was sub par at best, and the obvious contradictions provided in Connors abilities were terrible. Oh, and the hugely anti U.S. sentament throughout the Animus database that is meant to cater to the Non U.S. audience... cheapshot, especially when the game presents itself as working within the confines of historical events. (yah, I know it says a work of fiction on the front, but hiding a "may cause cancer" warning in the fine print is the same thing. You just tear off the wrapper and get to it) 1. 6 sequences just to start the game that the ads were selling? I didn't see anything about this play-as-teenage-connor crap in the awesome previews on TV and the internet. Loved Haytham though. 2. Inconsistent Cutscenes. Anyone notice the cutscene where Connor goes all indiginous and shaves the sides of his head leaving that late nighties style ponytail mohawk? Then notice how right after he slides his jacket on, his hair has grown back into a crew cut and the war paint disappears? Then when you're back into the game, his hairstyle didn't change at all? Oh, and where the hell did the war paint go. Or if you dyed your assassins gear the New York colors, too f'in bad... you get WHITE during all of the cutscenes. Or how Connor's hair style inexplicably changed for exactly 1 cutscene in New York? 3. Anyone notice how they skipped entire parts of the story? Or how the game allows you to progress beyond parts of the story that are essential to understanding wtf is happening at a specific moment? (like how you can fully train your recruits to max, then you suddenly meet them for the first time in a taven later?) 4. Horses. Everyone knows it. Enough said. 5. The controls are too clunky to actually do quite a few of the optional objectives during normal game play. At least 4 missions required that you replay them several times to figure out how it was even possble to meet the objectives. I had to play that stupid tackle sequence in mission 9ish 20 times before he actually did the "tackle from above" rather than just stepping off the ledge. Then my favorite part where you try to run through the burned out part of New York, only to get stuck on every single wall because Connor wants to spend 20 minutes trying to climb something that any grown man could step over? Or how during the battlefield scene, he would stop at the cover and throw his hands up as if the cops were pointing a gun at him rather than kneeling down like the other people? Or how the game attempts to predict where you meant to jump by throwing you off a cliff rather than onto the branch right in front of you? 6. And why on earth can this extremely nimble, "one-with-nature," super assassin not get over a fenceor a rock or a cart in a timely manner? And why is it this obviously well built individual is constantly being knocked down by tiny women and stopped dead in his tracks by street urchins? Oh, and is it just me or did they slow down the climbing and scaling to the point that it was just easier to run around on the ground. Speaking of... I spent more time roaming the streets and fast traveling than I did on roof tops and scaling cool buildings for fun. That whole "free running" thing that made the first game so awesome and the rest pretty damned good? Yah, that doesn't exist in this game. 7. There is NO combat system in AC3. It is a counter / counter kill system only. There is no point in attacking anyone directly. Even using Washington's replica sword which has some damn nice stats, you still have to hack and stab a guy 10-20 times for him to actually DIE. Or my favorite brawl for the club where the guy blocks everything and the only way to beat him is to use the undocumented cutscene blocks against tables? 8. The convoy system is so poorly explained that it is essentially useless. Once you figure it out (if you bothered at all), you're almost done with the game. Not like it mattered anyway. There was nothing worth buying that made the system even worth having. I beat all of the maritime missions before ever upgrading the ship, so those aren't even worth it. And as I said in the previous one, the weapons don't matter either. (why even give us a damned bow anyway? You use it for like 2-3 things in the begining just so the developer can say he is an authentic Mohawk) By the time you put effort into learning the system, you realize you could make upwards of 70k every 30 minutes from the stockpile/convoy menus without EVER doing anything but now, you don't need the money because the economy in the game serves no purpose. And speaking of, why on earth does the game kick you out of the menus to a start point where you have to try and craft something just to learn you already did it? Why not mark the damned thing as "Crafted" or "Purchased" like in the general store? 9. The menu system. I don't know who their GUI designer is, but they need to be fired. Even new coders are taught not to bury key items 6 levels in a menu. Lets assume you become proficient in drilling down into their menus... well you still have to back up through them the same way. What a pain. The menu gets in the way of EVERYTHING in this game. This falls over into the Multiplayer even worse so. Why on earth would the Multiplayer disc put you into a state where you have to dashboard due to some stupid menu item that cannot be backed out of? 10. View points? Useless in this game. 11. The Map? Almost as useless. I think someone mentioned the blue on blue on blue. Not too bad in towns, but in the frontier? Who thought that was a good idea. It really didn't tell me where anything was without having to dive through a ton of menu slide outs, and even then... I could have just run around randomly and done just as good a job. 12. I didn't enjoy the game AT ALL till around mission 9. By then, I was almost done with the game, then watched in horror as it decided to forgo anymore story and just skip right to "ah, well, we're done coding shit, so, buy our next one." Over-all, hated it. But I am a completionist whore, so I...must...finish...everything. That's what achievements are for really. Not because you "achieved" something but to keep those who would otherwise drop the game from venturing too far away. 13. The injured stagger. WHY THE HELL did I have to do that slow ass walk between cutscenes? Seriously, it goes... CUT SCENE - painfully slow player controlled walk where nothing can happen - CUT SCENE. And then... CUTSCENE - REPEAT PAINFULLY SLOW WALK WHERE NOTHING CAN HAPPEN - CUTSCENE. Waste of time. 14. Why give me the option to SKIP cutscenes if I just land in another cutscene? I only ever skipped them when I had to repeat missions due to failed objectives that don't show up on your screen until half a second before you're about to fail the fucking objective. So when I want to repeat from the last checkpoint, I do NOT want to sit through all the same poorly scripted and monotoned dialogue. 15. Speaking of dialogue, couldn't they have gotten like 4 or 5 more voice actors? That damned pre-teen voice for every delivery of pointless and un-described mail and useless garbage trinkets was annoying the first time. But to see some black guy with the same voice as the skinny white guy that also had the same voice as the drunkard? Wow. I realize re-using assets saves time, but honestly this game felt so poorly done with so much repeated throughout that I almost felt like more than half the game was cut and paste. 16. History Lessons. Ok, so I see the work of fiction crap at the front. But, they don't call this an alternate reality like they do for the upcoming DLC. They present this as a history lesson for the the vein of their other games. I know that some other cultures felt slighted by the other games (and I don't see why since really almost everyone except the germans and christians were made out to be amazing. And for the record, I am neither of those) Even the usually jocular brit you have as comedic relief turns into a dick if you read the animus database on the U.S.'s founding fathers. Now don't get me wrong, I realize no one is a saint and these folks certainly had their flaws, but much of it was just flat out disrespectful and without cause. The leaps of faith used to tie the atrocities of the Sullivan Expedition as being directly ordered by G.W. were mindless for no other reason than to make their story more pallatable to non U.S. citizens. Reading the Animus entries from other games, none of them carried the same stilted slander that this one did. I guess everyone has to hate someone, may as well be the U.S. right? I actually walked away from the other games with a more in depth knowledge and chose to read up more on several of the topics and people presented because they were interesting . In this game, however, Americans are nothing more than greedy, self righteous hypocrites. I am suprised no one caught that. 17. How is it Connor can face down an infinite onslaught of guards and soldiers in town after bumping into a member of their constantly circling marching band, but cannot just run into the damned fort to kill Lee. He personnaly destroys the entire british army with nothing more than his fists, hidden blades, and shitty voice acting, but he cannot manage to simply charge onto a ship and kill everyone? There is no reason to be sneaky in this game. There really is no recourse if you're not, other than a failed optional mission objective. I realized that I wasn't playing an assassin in this game. I was playing an angsty highschool goth kid that was suddenly given the ability to take out his anger on an entire nation, while simultaneously pissing on another one. Go Ubisoft. (oh, and just for shits and giggles... I wonder if the attitude wrought throughout this game has anything to do with the French Canadian studio) Edited December 30, 2012 by Finite Reign

DEG23
I've been avoiding hearing anything about this game, mostly spoilers, in the hope i would be blown away when i finally sat down to play it:( 4 sequences in and i'm still waiting to play the Connor i saw advertised everywhere. The Hatham parts were alright but playing hide and seek with kids and walking back and forwards between the ranch and the stable is completely uninspiring to a point where i am going to take a break from this game until i have nothing better to play. Oh and what's the deal with the strict synchronization objectives. I remember Al Mualim saying Assassins had many methods and resources at their disposal to take down enemies, yet now Ubisoft is telling me not to kill guards, or to kill a target using a certain assassination technique. I hope it's only an achievement for obtaining 100% synchronization because i would rather play the game my way than be forced to play it Ubisoft's way:mad:
Creasy47
The menus, the terrible glitches, the wonky ass controls that led to Connor doing shit I didn't want him to do, the unskippable credit sequence, and the ending: the entire series leads up to an ending with two choices...and I can't even pick which one it is? What a fucking joke. Another complaint: the optional objectives that had me furious more than happy throughout the entire game, making me pissed off a lot more than I wanted to be. The combat became very repetitive after a short while, and by the end, I was ecstatic to finish the game. I just want to get these achievements (in four hours time, when these credits end) for the epilogue missions and the pivots so I can take the game out, trade it in for any amount of money, and never play it again. This has to be one of the biggest disappointments I've ever played.
Kailon791
I don't normally bitch about games but I have a few problems with the AC series as of lately. First being that MP in this game is completely broken. For a focus on stealth, its annoying that players who just charge around still win matches and dont allow for skill to win. That would be if you could ever find your target from the useless "line of sight" system, or figure out who the hell you're even looking for from the terrible stock photo of the character. Second, that MP achievements are a terrible thing for a mostly single player game. I hate that I can't get 100% in Brotherhood, Revelations, or III because I don't want to put in the time and anger to get to level 50 in MP and do their various challenges. And lastly, I feel that the 100% Sync system has ruined the single player missions since they were put in in Brotherhood. They take away the fun of the AC series in that you could accomplish the objective how you wanted to, using whatever tactics you wanted. Now, in order to get achievements, and unlock everything, you have to do it the certain way the game wants you to, which most of the time I'm stuck trying to do that challenge that I don't even pay attention to what story is taking place in the mission because I'm worried about being spotted randomly, or losing 1 piece of health. I know this is a bit of a big bitching article, but I feel like these are big problems that need to be addressed.
DarkSephiroth
I'm kinda dissapointed at this game... First it was the era that drew me off (more and more it get's closer to this date it becomes more idiotic, I hate the idea of assassin with hidden blade going against muskets... and even more that AC is going to become more about shooting than hidden blade assassinations) But then I though I'd get it as I love AC a lot. But atm I'm at the end of sequence 5 and it's just been boring and stupid. I don't want to spoil anything but the start of the game and the main character... not interesting in any way. Guards are everywhere and as this game has awkward movement, I mean it's really surprising how odd the controls are compared to other ACs imo. Climbing in trees isn't funnier than buildings. And it could be ok if it actually works. I'm getting stuck on stupidest things. Some missions are just stupid and unnecessary not to talk about the second objectives. That's all I can think of atm. Thank god I haven't got any glitches or so, or I would have probably got rid of this game as I still want to finish it. Who knows maybe it gets better at some point I think the multiplayer is still good as I have been a fan of it since brotherhood. Games where everybody just run and does stupid kills etc etc is a pain but when you get into a game where everybody tries to play it like it's meant to be played, It's really good and fun. Also loving the restart checkpoint that allows you to try those annoying second objectives as much as you like. Just had to vent after the retarted 'save the idiot before the waterfall' mission x__x
Kisushima
Stop fucking reverting my 3rd person camera x axis to "Inverted". Fuck off. I really want to quit this game. For every 10 minutes of pleasure there's 20 of pain.
Panznerr
Never used a bitching thread before. However this is probably the first game in awhile I've not been happy with. A few points I'd like to bitch about to vent: Connor: I have no idea what ubisoft was doing with this character but I feel he has no passion whatsoever. Ezio was so passionate about his life and stood up for himself. Not to mention Ezio didn't sound like a mindless drone. Full Sync: I'm so glad they brought this back (sarcasm). It wasn't like it was bad enough in Brotherhood or Revelations but let's bring it back with more frustration by having multiple sync objectives. I'm so glad I got into this series at ACII cause this Full Sync makes me disgusted. Lockpicking: I get the concept of the Lockpicking in this game. I just find it is just so damn frustating that it makes no sense to even try to waste my energy trying to pick a lock to a damn chest. They should've just left the chests alone or made it like Fallout/Elder Scrolls. If anything gave players a option to buy a skeleton key or keys to open chest with for those who don't wanna cry themselves to sleep trying to spend 30+ minutes trying to open one chest. Stealth/Assassin: In most cases I find it almost impossible to go stealth in this game. As there is too many enemies in the towns and forts. It could be that I'm not as good in stealth in this game as I was in the previous AC Series. Which could very well be true. However I find that i think stealth/being a Assassin was just thrown in at the last minute. Don't get me wrong from me bitching. I do love certain aspects of ACIII. Such as hunting game for pelts, the Naval missions I absolutely love, and being in the 1700's. I just think they could've spent more time polishing this game then trying to throw it out before the holidays. jjthejetplan3
Definitely not enough playtime as Desmond, 3 short missions was not nearly enough for me. Also, the ending sucks. Kinda was looking forward to the series to be resolved/questions answered but now they just left it way too open ended so they could make another game. Capt_Ron CFH 01
My biggest issue with the game is the Boston UFO frontiersmen mission. I talked to the guys in the tavern & the mission is in my logbook, but there is no icon on the map and when I go to the tree the UFO is supposed to be in nothing is there (also no green circle appears to look for clues) I've finished the game 100% full sync on main missions, found all pivots and earned every achievement outside of the multiplayer ones. However due to the UFO mission I am unable to get the completionist achievements and my DNA sync is stuck at 99% 17064 our of 17070. Hope they patch it soon. I enjoyed the naval missions and free running in the trees. I liked the homestead missions because that area was basically nothing at first and bit by bit you had a hand in turning into a symbol of what the "new world" was supposed to be. Also the homestead characters were very likeable. The ending for both Connor and Desmond may have underwhelming but like Ezio, Connor has a lot of his life left and Desmond's story is sure to continue. I didn't like the ending of Brotherhood as it felt rushed but I came back for Revelations & AC3 and will be back for the next game.

STONE DEVIL
Single Player - Way too many glitches and other crap to list. My biggest gripe is Connor. He has no personality and is sooooooooooo friggin' boring to listen to in dialogues. I wanted to get into the story but I found myself skipping so many cinematics due to his characters lack luster personality. Ezio had a personality, this guy...christ. Horrible writing and voice acting. The lack of single player DLC is also ridiculous. This series does not have a large enough online MP community to justify the MP DLC. More proper spending. Multiplayer - I find the multiplayer to be just as frustrating as previous titles. There is clearly a host advantage in all games; especially when it comes to stunning. Many times I have watched a pursuer come over to me while I'm on a bench or in a crowd. I press the button to stun the persuer, but nothing happens and I get the honorable death BS. Then there's the 5 foot assassination interaction. You have to start running or prepare a defensive tactic while your pursuer is more than five feet away. If they get within 5', for some reason you can't move. Absolute crap. Ubisoft turned a basic assassination MP into a COD nightmare with all the bull shit abilities and perks. Took the core right out of the game. Thankfully they added the simple deathmatch, so you can play bare bones (another COD rip off). They did not need to add Domination and Territories to the MP either. They should have focused on simple assassination game types and fixed the shit that has been broken in the past two titles. And the initial map selection is really weak. Whatever, it is what it is and nothing will get better. Can't wait to see how the next title is screwed up. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u468/JSKULL69/jsforxbox_zps03de908e.jpg Edited January 8, 2013 by STONE DEVIL
JayMoyles
Jesus, just beat this game. I loved Assassin's Creed 2. Brotherhood was awesome as well. By Revelations, I was a little bit sick of Ezio but I still enjoyed. This though... mixed feelings. I'd built up my expectations for so long that maybe I set the bar too high, but I was expecting more than this. We got the worst protagonist I've played as in a long long time, and a shonky glitchy game. They could have let us play as Haytham for longer; at least he was interesting.
