Duke Nukem Forever Achievement Guide & Roadmap

Written by Nevander.

For use on x360a only.

ROADMAP

Overview

+ Estimated achievement difficulty: 6/10

+ Offline: 50 (1000)

+ Online: 0 (0)

+ Approximate time: 15-25 hours for 1000G

+ Minimum number of playthroughs needed: Minimum of two.

+ Number of missable achievements: None (chapter select).

+ Glitched achievements: None.

+ Cheats: Yes (some disable achievements, those that do are designated by (CHEAT) in the cheat description).

Introduction

We at last have the great Duke Nukem Forever. The game that all Duke fans have been waiting for, and the game that’s been in development for more than twelve years. It’s been a long wait, but it has been worth every single day. There are a total of fifty achievements and they are all fairly straightforward. Most of them can be obtained simply by just playing, but some require more attention.

Step One

Enjoy the game! A game of this magnitude shouldn’t be achievement hunted, however, if you insist on hunting them out, proceed to step two. Otherwise, you will want to play through the game on at least Normal first and just have a blast with it.

Step Two

I would advise leaving the Insane playthrough for last, as it is the toughest achievement out of them all and you will need all your EGO possible. Go through the game first on at least Normal, then chapter select to grab the EGO awards you missed and any other random achievements.

Step Three

It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, but it looks like you’re all out of gum. The Insane playthrough. Refer to the guide on how best to tackle this game’s hardest setting. You must beat the game once on any other setting to unlock Insane.

Conclusion

Well, it’s been a long wait, and a great game to have waited for. If you’d like, you can try out the multiplayer, but this game’s strong point is definitely its campaign.

You can get knocked down many times throughout the campaign, but the easiest way would be to let the Cycloid in “Duke Lives” keep knocking you down over and over with either of his attacks except for his rockets.

Win air hockey with a score of 7-0 in the strip club

Air hockey can be located in the game room during the strip club chapter. This is quite tricky to win, but it is simple with a little patience. Here are some tips:

  • Turn down horizontal sensitivity to 1 and vertical up to 10.
  • Focus on blocking his shots and make potshots towards his goal.
  • He will knock the puck in his own goal the majority of the time.

Earn a 1,000,000 pinball score in SP

The first pinball machine is located in the gymnasium of the chapter “The Duke Cave.” Obtaining a million points playing naturally is pretty much impossible, but there is a VERY simply way to obtain this. The basic concept is to obtain a combo multiplier, and then get the ball stuck on the top left corner thumper by holding down http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/lt.png. Let go of :ltbut: and then push it again very quickly to push the ball into the panels above that same thumper. If the ball falls towards the right, push the left stick to the left once.

Carry the gold pistol through the whole SP campaign

Later on during “The Duke Cave,” you will equip the Gold Pistol. As long as you keep it with you during the entire campaign, it will unlock. You are allowed to drop it and pick it back up, but just remember to always keep it with you as you progress. The game tracks this by level, so there is no need to restart an entire campaign if you messed up on one or more levels.

Damn, I'm Good – 50http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Complete the SP campaign on Insane Difficulty

Complete the entire campaign (all levels) on Insane difficulty, or “Damn, I’m Good.” This setting is only unlocked once you complete the game once on any other setting. If you complete the game on Insane you will unlock the other lower difficulty achievements also.

Here are some tips:

  • Like any shooter, remember to take cover when shot at and take your time moving through.
  • Use aim assist, it helps a ton when getting rushed and during the turret sections.
  • Stick to the Pistol, Shotgun, Shrink Ray, and Freeze Ray.
  • Pipebombs and Trip Mines become a tad useless, so don’t sweat using them.
  • Save Beers, Holodukes, and Steroids for boss battles/tight spots.
  • Use the Freeze Ray trick for the later levels. This is done by activating the extra game setting “Duke 3D Freeze Ray” and using it until you run out of ammo, then disabling the setting to regenerate ammo. This works well against everything near the end.
  • Make sure to start from the first chapter, not a new game. Starting a new game will erase your EGO and make it literally impossible.
  • Lastly, make sure to have maximum EGO before starting.

Steps to beat the final boss:

  1. To start off, keep taking out the Pigcops that drop out from the dropships until there are about thirty or so RPGs laying on the ground. This is very important.
  2. Once you have a ton of RPGs laying around, let one Pigcop remain for the fight. If you don’t kill him, NO other enemies will spawn. It will just be you, the Cycloid, and that one pig idiot.
  3. For the first and second stages of his health, use all those RPGs and Pipebombs that the pigs dropped.
  4. Soon after the third stage of health begins, your Devastator will be dropped off, with two ammo crates. Now it’s time to kick some ass.
  5. Keeping dodging all his attacks, which are basically the same as the first Cycloid but with some new stupid attacks which basically do nothing, while unloading on him. He should go down easily after a few ammo re-stocks.
  6. After you down him the third time, be ready to hit :xbut: again after his eye comes out. Once you do that, hop on the EDF ship that swoops down and you’re done!

Bucket Head – 30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Find all 3 helmets in the SP campaign

There are three secret helmets to locate:

Helmet One – Master Chief’s Armor

This can be found when exiting the Lady Killer during “Vegas In Ruin.” It will be located in the back of a EDF truck.

Helmet Two – Issac Clarke’s Helmet

During “The Hive,” there will be an intersection with a lit up right path and a darker left path with a purple light coming from it. Head down the left path and you will find a dead EDF soldier with Issac Clarke’s helmet.

Helmet Three – Borderlands Psycho

During “Blowin’ The Dam,” you will pass a man in concrete shoes. Look to the left in the distance to spot a corpse and a flashlight. Continue heading that direction and turn left when you reach the body. Head towards the disk shaped object and inside you will find the head of a Borderlands Psycho.

  3. Just like the Cycloid, strafe to dodge his attacks and lead him in a circle around the middle debris pillar.
  4. Make use of Pipebombs and trip mines to lay waste to him.
  5. After a few refills of ammo and explosives he should go down with no hassle.

Not Bad for a Human – 40http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Defeat the Alien Queen

This boss takes place during the “Queen Bitch” chapter.

Steps to beat:

  1. Make sure to have an RPG and a Shotgun as your two weapons.
  2. At the start, head to either the left or right corner, doesn’t really matter.
  3. Use the blue bounce pads to launch Pipebombs behind the Queen.
  4. Once she is stunned, unload your RPG, refill ammo and explosives, and then head back to a corner.
  5. Watch out for Pregnators during the beginning of the fight, and Octabrains during the end of the fight.
  6. Use the RPG to take out Pregnators and the shotgun for the Octabrains.
  7. After a while she will stop shielding your attacks and you can abandon the Pipebombs and focus on her with the RPG.
  8. After about thirty shots or so, she’ll be down for the count.

A Good Dam Fight – 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Defeat the Battlelord on the Hoover Dam

This is the second Battlelord you fight in the game during “Dam Top.”

Steps to beat:

  1. All you need is an RPG and Pipebombs.
  2. Clear the top of the dam and then the Battlelord will spawn.
  3. Don’t worry about the assault troopers, they don’t bother you during the fight thankfully.
  4. For this fight, just simply keep unloading your RPG into him while heading back to the start of the dam where you came from.
  5. Use the EDF van for cover, the Battlelord will get stuck on it and he can’t kick it around.
  6. Fire from behind the van over it and to his head.
  7. This, with a combination of Pipebombs, should take him down fairly quick.
  8. During his second stage of health, just use this same strategy.
  9. Feel free to use a Beer if you have one. Don't bother with Holodukes, he can tell it's fake. I've tried.

Octacide – 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Defeat the Octaking

This is the hardest boss in the game and has two encounters. You face him first during “The Forkstop” and then again for the last time in “Generator Room.”

Steps for first encounter:

  1. Clear all barrels by dumping them in to the water.
  2. Leave one Pigcop until you are ready for a fight.
  3. Use the turret and auto-aim assistance to take out all the Octabrains.
  4. When the Octaking comes, unload on him with the turret.
  5. If you come close to dying, drink a beer if you have one and continue fighting, or jump off the side of the fence to the left of the turret and get in that back corner behind the fence. His main attack will barely hurt you here.

Steps for main battle:

  1. Make sure you have a Beer, Holoduke, and a Shrink Ray from the previous level. Refer to the Companion Barrel video for locations.
  2. During the ride to the boss himself, use any gun to take out all the Assault Troopers, just whatever you are comfortable with.
  3. Once the Octaking appears, stay behind the glass window encasement on the right for cover.
  4. Use the Shrink Ray on the Octabrains and then take the whole group out with a Pipebomb.
  5. Then, unload your entire Devastator clip into the boss.
  6. Rinse and repeat step four until the boss changes attacks.
  7. Once he starts throwing crap, leave the cover and head out to the middle.
  8. Drink a beer if you need to, or just try to dodge his attacks, which aren’t hard at all. The Octabrains will have stopped spawning at this point.
  9. Once he’s down, be prepared to unload at least three more clips of Devastator into him as you slowly move towards him, or else you will instantly die.

Beating the One-Eyed Worm – 35http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif

Defeat the Energy Leech

This is the last boss before the final boss, and it’s not that bad.

Steps to beat:

  1. You will only need your RPG for this one.
  2. Basically, just strafe left and right to dodge pretty much all of his attacks.
  3. Keep an eye on your oxygen as well as remember to keep refilling RPG ammo.
  4. After a few minutes of strafing and shooting, he should be easy prey.
  5. Swim over to him and insert the bomb to finish him off.

Are you sure? His are on PS3, in English, and his are for collectables, not bosses. Since I have no way of knowing for sure if this is true, I just changed the credits to say that you, LAFTA, and PowerPyx were ALL responsible for the videos.

The videos that PowerPyx did are just easier to see and understand, they're in English and he also keeps track on-screen.

I saw that you also have videos on your channel of collectables but everyone was using PowerPyx's videos so I just thought that he was the only one to do collectables so far, organized and everything. His and your videos are not the same, though. They're on the same things, but they are not copied.

The original guides you posted are in the useful links section, as well as LAFTAs.

Are you sure?

100%

They're on the same things, but they are not copied.

Example, i postet here and in a other Forum Call Waiting, first Video Worldwirst on YT for this Achievement

4-6h later he have the same Video on Ps3 replayed and uploaded

Other example, i transform all Textinfos for pescaphobe, another worldfirst Video on YT, again 4-6h later he postet the same on YT (Ps3)

More example need? The Joke is, he ignored and delete all msg from me and putt me on his ignore list on YT. No one in the world realize that his video fu**** "copyd and he take ALL Credits / Fame for THIS in every GUIDE and no THX, no Credit or something to me....

THATS ridiculous and it makes me sick....

Well there isn't much I can do but I noted that you are the original creator and PowerPyx just copied them. Maybe he could post here and confirm this or let us know what's going on. It could have just been a coincidence, but I believe you.

What I'm thinking is that he was going to make some but saw that yours had been made, and then just decided to make his own based on yours (kinda copying but not really) and make them in English and what not. I'm sure he didn't do it to be a jerk.

Very nice guide man. If I ever pick this game up in the future, I'll be coming back here to knock these achievements out. :)

Yeah, that's what I'd do if I was him too.

One, you have absolutely no proof that he copied your videos.

Two, for someone who makes videos yourself, you severely underestimate how long it takes to create, edit, render, and then upload HD video. You say 4-6 hours after your videos were up, his were too? Yeah, I would love to know in which reality you think someone can record, edit, render, and upload that many HD videos in such a short period of time, because I've done some myself and it's not possible. If it was just one video, yes. But an entire set? Not happening.

And third, yet again, I point out that you have absolutely no proof. Collectibles are in the same place every time, so of course if multiple people make their own videos of how to find them, they are going to show the same locations. That does NOT mean he watched your videos first to learn where they were so he could make his own video. It just means that the collectibles are not randomly generated in the game, they are placed in the same location every time.

I'd also like to point out that his videos are more detailed and useful than yours, at least in the examples I watched. Like finding the beers in the strip club: you just keep cutting to being right in front of each beer, whereas his shows where to go from the entrance to the club and the path to take from beer to beer. His video would be more useful to someone who isn't already aware of the layout of the club.

So between the very short timeframe you say exists between the upload of your videos and the other guys and the fact that you have no actual proof that he copied you, if I was in his shoes I'd block you and delete your comments from my channel as well. You should have some evidence before you go around saying someone stole a video of the locations of items that always appear in the same place in a game (especially when their videos are more detailed than your own). Right now, you can't even prove that he's watched your videos, but even if you could, that wouldn't be nearly enough to prove he stole from you. Get off his nuts, and get off Nevander's nuts about who should get credit in the guide.

Ity your great Guide, you can make what you think but i would be to note this with the Videos. (and he earn another time the Views and credits.... )

thx you and good work.

sorry to burst your bubble, but his videos are better than yours. So even in the case that he did "copy" your videos, at least they are more detailed then yours.

Also quit bitching on someones guide, and only reply if you see a mistake or want to give congrats to the guide writer.

Great looking guide so far, i know i was a dick to you in a couple other posts on this forum, but the guides looking good so far so keep up the good work!

Eat 10 pieces of food during the SP campaign

During the chapter “Duke Lives,” you will be able to eat all types of different foods scattered around the level. Just keep eating until it pops.

You might specify that when you leave the elevator and go through the doors to the Damn It's Late! taping, you can use that vending machine the construction worker is at. Just hit X on the food machine and X again on the chips that come out. Took 30 secs to pop, all the food's in one place.

  • 2 weeks later...
which cheats affect which achivements? as im guessin invincibility affects gettin insane ach.......i like to take shortcuts :p

The cheats/extras are:

Invincibility

Infinite Ammo

Instagib

Mirror Mode

Grayscale Mode

Head Scale

Duke 3D Freeze Ray

Invincibility, Infinite Ammo and Instagib are Cheats. They disable achievements. The other four are Extras. They don't disable achievements.

Some Extras are unlocked when you start a game, the rest are unlocked after you finish the game on Normal (Easy only unlocks Head Scale).

You can use the Duke 3D Freeze Ray on your Insane playthrough to make it a LOT easier (provided you played on Normal your first playthrough).

GREAT GUIDE... but is there a chance you could organize the Achievements in the order they could be achieved? (by level)

That would be great... Thanks again

If he organized them in the way they are achieved, then he would have to re-order them in the correct order if/when he submits the guide for publication.

What I do with guides for games I'm playing is to cut and paste them in a Word document, put them in any order that I want, then print it out so I don't have to keep looking at a computer screen to see what I need. I keep my guide on the table next to me and cross off which ones I've gotten.

While I like the format better for Nevander's guide than the other one written by unsoundwarrior, I've taken them both and edited them into one guide in my Word document. Different ideas, different strategies. But Nevander's looks better. I also took parts of the guides on Trueachievements.com and PS3T.org. One big super-guide.
