Overview:

-Estimated achievement difficulty: 4/10 for 900/1000, 6/10 for full 1000

-Offline: 35 (1000)

-Online: 0

-Approximate amount of time to 1000: 12-15 hours

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2

-Number of missable achievements: Many. Several of the achievements are missiable. Some of the collectibles are only available in hard/very hard, so you either have to play through on hard from the start to get these all at once, or use 2 play throughs. Also, some of the feats can't be obtained in one play through.

-Do cheat codes disable achievements ? No cheats.

-Does difficulty affect achievements? Yes. The game must be beaten once to unlock Valhallan mode (very hard), and then beaten again on this difficulty.

-Glitchy achievements: No

-Unobtainable achievements? No

-Extra equipment needed? No

Introduction:

Thor: God of Thunder is the newest game to come out of the Marvel universe. It is a tie in to the up coming Thor movie. This game is a straight up hack and slash game (as much hacking and slashing that you can do with a hammer anyways). It's a pretty easy 900 points, but many of the achievements are tedious and time consuming. The last 100 points comes from clearing the game on Valhallan difficulty, which is pretty challenging.

Step 1: Easy playthrough

You have to play through the game twice to get all the achievements, and there are no difficulty achievements other than for completing very hard, so I recommend playing through first on easy and trying to get as many achievements out of the way as possible. Try to use this play through to knock out all of the situation specific achievements. There is no chapter select, so if you miss them, you'll have to try to tackle them on your Valhallan play through, which makes many of them far more difficult. Use the save slots to your advantage. I don't know that there is a limit on save slots, but I never ran out of space. If you're having trouble getting one, make a save and move on for now and come back for it later. Unless your first playthrough is on Hard, you can't get all the collectibles in your first run. This is because some of them are "Hard Mode Only" collectibles, which can only be obtained in Hard or Very Hard mode. Your easy playthrough will net you minimum:

Set In Motion

Sharp Shooter

Reap What You Sow

Sins of the Father

Through the Fire

Homecoming King

Savior of Asgard

Step 2: Valhallan playthrough and Feat/Collectible clean up

After you complete the game once, you'll unlock Valhallan (Very Hard) difficulty. You have the option to start this as a new game plus, so all your stats/feats/collectibles carry over. Enemies are a bit tougher, and take a little more work to kill. Thor takes far fewer hits to go down. If you bought a fair amount of upgrades and found a good many collectibles during your first play through, this will help make this play through easier. The normal enemies in this mode aren't really that much of an issue. The bosses, however, are a different story. The difficulty on the bosses seemed to be ramped up quite a bit. You'll spend a good while dying and restarting to the bosses until you iron out a strategy that works for you. The final boss on Valhallan difficulty alone probably took me 2 hours or so of dying before I finished. Use this playthrough to take care of any remaining feats you need. Some of them can't be completed in 1 playthrough, and any progress will carry over, so you shouldn't need much to finish them off. Also during this playthrough, you'll need to collect the "Hard Mode Only" collectibles that you couldn't get in your first playthrough, unless your first playthrough was on Hard.

Conclusion:

Overall, this game isn't a very hard 900 points, but it will take you some time due to the 2 required playthroughs and collectibles. Getting the last 100 is where the real challenge lies. Being fully upgraded or close to it for your 2nd playthrough will make things go much quicker for you. I've been using this site for a while now, but this is my first attempt at an achievement guide. Please feel free to offer any constructive criticism to improve the guide. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

Storyline / Unmissable achievements

Story related, unmissable. You'll get this after you leave Asgard for Niflheim.

Pretty sure this one is unmissable, as there are 2 ways to proceed at this part and both involve destroying the bridge. You'll come to a part on Niflheim where you're crossing an ice bridge and some ice comes up and blocks both your way forward and backward. Across a gap you'll see some Ice Born spawn and start throwing projectiles at you. You can either throw Mjolnir at the ice that is supporting the bridge, or reflect the projectiles back at the Ice Born which will kill them. The bridge does collapse if you reflect the projectiles instead of destroy the supports.

Story related, unmissable. You'll get this once you finish Niflheim by opening the Cave of Ages and defeating Ymir.

Misc. Missable Achievements - These are in the order that you'll encounter them in the game.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/-bxUgw==.jpgIf He Be Worthy 25 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Defeat a giant enemy without taking any damage.

You'll have several opportunities for this achievement throughout the game, but I found doing this in Asgard to be the easiest. This particular Frost Goliath has some moves that will help you, and he also doesn't regenerate armor like the later ones can. Most of the way through the world a Frost Goliath will appear. You can kill him one of two ways. You can damage him until his life bar is depleted, or you can damage him until grapple points appear on him, grapple him and destroy his armor and pull the Jotun out of the Goliath, which is faster. The Frost Goliath in the first world will have some moves that will make this achievement easier. If you stay away from him, he'll do a couple different ranged projectile attacks, but then he'll also do a ramming attack. If you dodge the ramming attack, he'll crash and automatically be stunned with grapple points available to you. Just stay away from him, dodging his projectiles until he rams, dodge that, then grapple and destroy a part of him. Rinse and repeat until he's dead. You can quit and continue if you get hit and you'll be right back at this point.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-vAqZk=.jpgEjected 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Rip the Jötun warrior out of the Frost Goliath's chest.

Secret Achievement. Again, I found this easiest to do on the first Frost Goliath in the game, in Asgard, since he doesn't regenerate. As in the above achievement, chip away at the goliath until a grapple point appears and use it to destroy a body part. If you destory all of his body parts before his health bar is depleted, you'll break into the goliath's chest and pull out the Jotun that is controlling it. This will end the fight and net you the achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-nhoCw=.jpgRage of Battle 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Kill 10 Jötun Invaders within 30 seconds.

This is obtained in the first world, Asgard. Most of the areas you don't have enough enemies fast enough to do this. There is a part towards the end of the world where you are on the Rainbow Bridge and are headed to the Observatory. You'll fight a small wave of enemies, and then an icon will appear that gives you unlimited Odinforce temporarily and many Ice Born will spawn. I got this achievement here with little difficulty. Just spam lightning magic on them and grapple kills to finish them off quickly. If you don't get it, quit the game back to the main menu, and try again.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/+f5H6Q==.jpgSlayer 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Quickly obliterate 30 Frost Giants during the first battle on Niflheim.

This is done in the first area you see enemies in Niflheim. You'll fight a few small wave and have to use your Rage mode to trigger this section. There will be Jotuns jumping down constantly and every 5 kills you'll see a counter in the bottom right corner of the screen. The enemies take fewer hits to kill than normal. There is also an unlimited Odinforce item in the middle of the area which you can use to your advantage. The way I got this was by rounding up as many enemies as I could and using Lightning Storm to kill them all fast. Do this however many times that your magic supply will allow you to, then get the unlimited Odinforce item and do it some more.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-q5qMU=.jpgSpelunker 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Open the Cave of Ages within 4 minutes.

This is done at the end of Niflheim. You'll be fighting Ymir in front of the Cave of Ages. You'll have to fight off Ymir until he disappears, then go open the cave. You won't be able to open it in 1 shot because Ymir will reform and interrupt you. Fight him off again and keep working on getting the door open. Repeat until it pops. If you don't get it, you can quit/continue to be back at the beginning of the fight.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-3cr6E=.jpgBarge Hauler 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Complete River Barge area with Mire Giant at 40% Health or better.

In Vanaheim, you'll come to a section where a Mire Giant will pull you on a barge. This is a pretty long section. You'll have a couple places in the trip that the giant will get food which will replenish your health, so I wouldn't worry too much about the 40%+ until you're at the end. There will be enemies on the river banks shooting at the giant, ships in the water shooting him, and also some bombs. Destroy all enemies/bombs as fast as possible and this is relatively simple. I found it easiest to shock the Mire Giant so he goes faster. It makes it a bit harder to hit enemies, but it also seemed to make you much harder for enemies to hit. This achievement will pop when you destroy the 4th mortar canon if you get it.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-5iQmA=.jpgGentle Giant 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Spare a Mire Giant.

Secret Achievement. After the barge hauling part, you'll dock the barge and the giant will attack you while you try to open a door. You have to activate 2 Runic panels on the ground. Activate these without killing the giant and the achievement is yours.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-xDS9U=.jpgVolley 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Reflect 3 of the War Beast projectiles.

Near the end of Vanaheim, you'll fight this. Ulik the troll lets you know when he is coming. One of the beast's attacks is to stop and throw projectiles at you. Block just before the projectile hits you to reflect it back. Do this 3 times and the achievement will pop. Quick and simple.

Misc. Missable Achievements Continued

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/-uRcag==.jpgWarrior's Madness 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Kill 4 or more enemies with a single melee attack.

I got this on Muspelheim, but you can get this at many different points in the game. Many of the enemies on Muspelheim are small grunt enemies and die very easily. Using your charged melee combos should make this easy. I had forgotten about this achievement and got it against the weak enemies here without trying.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-77u68=.jpgSnuff Job 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Extinguish 10 Warlord flames with Wind Powers.

Just use your wind magic on the warlord type enemies on Muspelheim to put their flames out. These are the larger enemies that stand up on 2 legs and often have a sword of some type. Just keep doing this to each one you see and you'll have it in no time. There are well more than enough of this type of enemy on Muspelheim.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-zasho=.jpgInto the Void! 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Knock 30 enemies into abysses on Muspelheim.

When you are working on getting to the core drill in Muspelheim, you'll have to destroy some chain anchors holding it in place. You'll be Mjolnir Leaping from one floating rock to another through this section. Just knock enemies off these to get this achievement. I found it easiest just to grapple the smaller weak enemies, then press the grapple button while holding the left stick in the direction of an edge to throw them off. Rinse and repeat.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-iYoXA=.jpgResonator 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Stop the Resonator Beams in the Smelting Room without getting hit by them.

This section is pretty easy. You'll be in a chamber with charged electrical looking beams moving across the floor towards you. You have to throw Mjolnir at panels on the wall to stop the beams. Make sure to jump and air dash to avoid any beam getting near you. Destroy all the wall panels and the achievement is yours. If you get hit, simply quit and continue the game to be back in the right place.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-06Sok=.jpgCrash Landing 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Crash the Core Drill within 4 minutes of landing on it.

Once you get to the core drill, the door will lock. You'll have to charge 3 rune stations to unlock it. Inbetween each station, you'll fight some enemies. They're mostly the smaller flying enemies who throw fireballs at you. These are easily dispatched by throwing Mjolnir a them. Rush through the killing sections taking care of the enemies quickly and hit the rune stations to unlock the door. I went counter-clockwise from where you land, but I think you can go either direction you'd like. Once you get inside, you'll have to face a flame goliath. Using Lightning Storms and grapples, dispatch him as quickly as possible and use your Rage mode to destroy the drill. If you get it all in 4 minutes or less, the achievement will pop.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-qKkdk=.jpgFlawless Defense 25 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Complete the defense of Asgard with 75% Morale.

This one is probably one of the more difficult achievements. When you return to Asgard, you'll have to defend the city in many different sections. You'll Mjolnir Leap up to the palace roof and you'll have several Leap spots to choose from. You'll have a morale meter on the left side of the screen. You have to go from area to area killing things very quickly. Most sections also have a Feat associated with them. Usually the Feats will help boost morale more. The one that gives the most trouble is the Frost Goliath that spawns. You can't get him right away, but I suggest that as you leave at least one area to tackle after you kill the Frost Goliath. He takes some time to kill, so your morale will have dropped. Having at least 1 area left will help you boost morale back up. This achievement doesn't pop until after you do the section with the Scabrite Bomb, so make sure you wait it out and don't reload thinking something messed up. There is a save point on top of the palace, so save your game and you can reload if you don't feel you're in a good spot.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/5-tqaUo=.jpgThe Bomb 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Prevent the Scabrite Bomb from detonating without using any tap or charged Elemental Powers.

Pretty easy. Just make sure to use only melee attacks and hammer throws and you'll get this once the game shows you the drill that's incoming. When the little guys start pouring towards the bomb, stand inbetween the bomb and them and just keep spamming Mjolnir throw.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1568/+IdGtQ==.jpgLegend of Valhalla 100 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png Complete the game on Valhallan Difficulty (hardest).

Simply complete the game on Valhallan difficulty. You have to complete the game once on any other difficulty to unlock Valhallan difficulty. This is considered the very hard mode, but all your upgrades carry over. By the time you unlock this, you'll be mostly upgraded, so the levels won't be too much trouble. The bosses are kind of a pain in this mode. Don't get frustrated by dying on them over and over again until you figure out your best strategy to take them down. Stick with it and you'll have this one knocked out.

These achievements are for buying upgrades with your Valor points. You'll need just about 108,000 points to upgrade everything. I wasn't able to get everything in 1 playthrough, but was close enough that I got this shortly into my Valhallan playthrough.

There are 4 types of collectibles in the game: Health upgrades, Odinforce upgrades, Lightning colors, and Costumes. These are found scattered throughout all of the worlds. Many of these collectibles can't be obtained until you playthrough on hard or very hard. Below is a link to a collectible guide. Collectibles also make a distinct low humming sound when you're near them. Once you learn the sound, it'll make finding these much easier.

These achievements all come from completing the Feats in each world. They will probably be some of the last achievements you obtain. Most of these Feats are simple and straightforward, but some will take some effort. This does also include obtaining all the collectibles, which also makes this time consuming. The Niflheim ones I thought were the most annoying because they involve completing a specific section without getting hit or in a certain amount of time. Luckily there's a checkpoint before each one, so if you do mess up, you can quit/continue to be right back where you need to be. The rest are pretty easy. Usually they involve killing enemies in certain ways, or destroying different environmental objects. For this final achievement, you also need to complete the General and Combat Feats in addition to the world related Feats.

Thanks for the guide and roadmap! These are always much appreciated.

What makes this a 5/10 achievement difficulty, though? From everything you've said it sounds like a 3 or 4 /10.

I figured more for the time and tediousness of a lot of what you're doing in this game. I guess for straight difficulty, yes, it'd be a bit lower. I'll adjust it.

Can I ask when the barge achievement pops? (for keeping health above 40%). as it is the only level specific achievement I missed so far. Is it before you have to kill the mortar teams? Before the part where mines drop into the river? Just wondering whether to make new save to go for this or just try for it on my hardest difficulty run through.

This pops as soon as you kill the 4th mortar canon.

For the crash landing ach you forgot to mention that you have to fight a flame giant after opening the rune door. He can be a pain but if you have fully maxed your lightning power it should be easy.

Drop down and dash towards him then use lightning storm ASAP. He should lose a ton of energy and set the floor on fire. Ignore that and storm him again. After this you should only need two grapples to finish him. Then hit RB to wreck the drill. Ach should pop right away if you were fast enough.

one of the feats im having trouble with is heavy hitter feat under general. It would be wise to explain that under the "Feat Fetish" achievement.

The game gives you descriptions for all the feats. I had the easiest time with that on on Vanaheim. Use the charged combo that is X, X, X, hold Y. This should be the one that Thor spins around using wind power. This will kill Skraelings in 1 combo on Valhallan. Also works well on the small Inferni on Muspelheim.

If you get his, simply quit and continue the game to be back in the right place.

I cannot get this, I have tried over and over again for hours now. Does anyone have any extra tips?

I used electricity so I didn't have to use the hammer. I just walked near the chamber and hit the button for the element. It was still tough for me though.
