Introduction:

Age of Empires: Castle Siege is a mobile spin-off of the Age of Empires franchise that plays more or less identically to something like the popular free mobile game 'Clash of Clans'. That being said, Age of Empires: Castle Siege is a free to play, massive multiplayer online game that comprises of simple attack and defense gameplay.

Discussion:

First and foremost, DO NOT BUY GOLD. It's very fruitless, a waste of money, and honestly won't really save you a whole lot of time in the grand scheme of things.

Secondly, if you're interested in completing this game, it will take a considerable amount of your time - three or four months of consistent and dedicated playing at the very least.

The achievements themselves are fairly straightforward and shouldn't really require much explanation. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to get something specific - like destroy 100 walls, for example. If you're going to play this game for several months then you're more than likely going to get that through natural progression; you shouldn't scour for a player with a lot of walls just to attack his walls to earn the achievement.

Discussion (cont.):

Patches tend to balance out heroes and troops, so me going into details about how you should attack is fairly pointless. If you're at the point where you're ineffective at either attacking or defending then you should find someone on the leaderboards and try and imitate them as best as you can. It's worth mentioning that if someone attacks you, you have the ability to "visit" and look at their map. This also gives you the ability to look at their offensive and defensive logs. It's a very under-utilized resource that I don't think a lot of people know about or use.

Regardless, I should probably go over the basics before talking much further...

Upon first booting the game, you are asked to pick a civilization - there's really no beneficial difference between them. Honestly, the Saracens and the Byzantines seem to be the least populated, so it might be beneficial to you if you pick them (doing this would make your Multi Cultral achievement a little bit easier to obtain).

When building up your empire, you're only allowed to have four active buildings being built. Walls are upgraded without any delay, but can't be upgraded if your builders are maxed. The cost of your buildings also increases exponentially as you move through the ages.

As far as defense goes, you want to keep your storage units, resource camps, and keep well protected. You're 'defeated' if you lose 50% or more of your buildings or if your keep is sacked. Other buildings contain resources, but they're far less negligible than the ones that hold most of your resources.

How 'defeated' you are also relates to how many crowns you will give up to your opponent. A single star results in either your your keep being destroyed or having 50% of your buildings destroyed. Two stars is from having both occur, and three stars is from having all of your buildings destroyed. This also applies to when you're attacking. Obtaining a star will result in you earning one-third of the possible crowns from your opponent - for example, if your opponent has 9 crowns and you earn a single star in battle then you will earn 3 crowns.

As far as upgrades go, you should try and build new buildings/items/troops (except for loyalty items which are pointless) and upgrade everything that you use before upgrading your keep to the next age.

There's also no point in staying in the same age to farm resources or to farm crowns. Everything will come in time. If you have gotten all the resources and upgrades you need then you should move on.

Again, don't really have much advice for attacking. The only thing that I can advise is that you attack as frequently as possible to maximize resource gain potential - most of your resources will come from battle and not through camps.Find a strategy that works for you and try and stick with it until you find that it doesn't work anymore. Things do change in the game sometime with patches.

And if there isn't anything covered that should be covered, please let me know. I'd be happy to try and touch on it. I'd like to think that most of the game is fairly intuitive.

Advance to the Second Age

This will more than likely be your first achievement for the game. The game will run you through the tutorial to upgrade a few buildings and eventually, when your ready, you will have the availability to upgrade your keep. Once completed, you will net the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/2.jpgMarch Through History - 5:gsicon:

Won 3 battles in the Historical Campaign

Historical campaigns are separate, kind of, single-player battles against a CPU in which you "reenact" some, well, historical campaigns. You can find them under your Battle Menu and they become available as you progress through the ages. If you find yourself having any difficulty with the missions, try finding some solution videos on YouTube like these, for example - https://www.youtube.com/user/EmpiresCastleSiege/videos.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/3.jpgMaster Forager - 5:gsicon:

Looted 30,000 Food

See 'Ravager' achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/4.jpgFounding the Empire - 5:gsicon:

Won 20 Multiplayer Battles

Should come early fairly early in your career. I would recommend that you avoid moving up in age if you’re struggling to take down opponents. Beef up your offense and strategy and figure out the best way to take down your opponents. Again, you earn a win from battles where you either sacking the Keep or destroying 50% of your opponents buildings.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/5.jpgCastellan - 5:gsicon:

Successfully defend your castle 10 times

This will probably be one of the first achievements you will earn. Defend your camp! Place towers, walls, and other defensive buildings/units around your keep and buildings.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/6.jpgDismantler - 5:gsicon:

Destroyed 30 Emplacements in Multiplayer Battles

Earned for destroying defensive buildings such as catapults and trebuchets. Most of the time, these should be the first things you attack, so the achievement should go fairly quickly. If you’re struggling to take them out quickly and efficiently, try changing your army setup to include some ladder invaders.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/7.jpgRaiding Force - 5:gsicon:

Unlocked the Raiders from the Barracks

Raiders are available when your barracks is level 2. Ensure that your silos and lumberyards are upgraded so that you have enough resources to supply the upgrade. Upgrade your barracks and purchase the unit and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/8.jpgOver the Walls - 5:gsicon:

Unlocked the Catapult from the Siege Workshop

Available in the 4th age when you upgrade your workshop to level 2.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/9.jpgLord Commander - 5:gsicon:

Won 100 Crowns in Multiplayer Battles

See ‘Warlord’ achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/10.jpgFlanking Tower - 10:gsicon:

Upgraded an Archer Tower to level 5

Available to upgrade at the 5th age. Requires 14,500 and 16 hours to upgrade. I would recommend burning your other resources before doing this upgrade to make sure that you’re not an easy target.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/11.jpgPillager - 10:gsicon:

Looted 100,000 Wood

See 'Ravager' achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/12.jpgRavager - 10:gsicon:

Looted 60,000 Stone

Looting is fairly simple. When in combat, focus on attacking storage facilities and the keep. The majority of resources available for looting are in these buildings. Secondary targets should be resource producing buildings/units and other buildings.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/13.jpgSiege Master - 10:gsicon:

Destroyed the Keep 100 times in Multiplayer Battles

This might actually be one of the easier achievements to earn early on in the game. For this achievement, you need to focus on taking down the keep which will automatically give you a win and some crowns. Units like the trebuchet tend to demolish the keep fairly quickly. The best strategy that I can recommend for something like this is to take out defensive towers and send in things like the trebuchet to take down the keep from a distance. Should come fairly easily if there aren't any traps.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/14.jpgIcons of History - 10:gsicon:

Unlocked any 6 heroes

You can unlock heroes by building the Hall of Heroes in the 3rd age. You’re automatically granted your civilizations first hero upon completion of the building. To unlock/research the others, you need to earn 100 pennants from other civilizations which can be done by attacking cathedrals and monasteries. Once you earn 100, you can unlock them or save up for the second-tier heroes which will be available with the next upgrade of your Hall of Heroes.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/15.jpgHeavy Cavalry - 10:gsicon:

Built a Stable

Available during the 5th age. Costs 20,000 food.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/16.jpgAppropriation - 10:gsicon:

Unlocked each civilization's unique troop

There’s a building that is unique to each empire, but more or less does the same thing – we’re just going to call it the “castle”. You can unlock the castle at the 5th age. Each unit costs 500 pennants from their respective empire. To earn pennants, attack the cathedrals and monasteries. Once you unlocked each unit to their first level, you will earn the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/17.jpgUnder the King's Command - 10:gsicon:

Destroyed 40 Walls in Multiplayer Battles

This achievement will come naturally through battling and there’s no real point in trying to grind it out as early as you can. Best way to get through walls easily is with the Battering Ram or Trebuchet units.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/18.jpgThe Rennaissance - 25:gsicon:

Advanced to the Eighth Age

As mentioned several times before throughout the guide, I would recommend that you feel fairly comfortable and stable in your current age before upgrading. Ensure that whatever troops, defensive items, and whatever else you use are fully upgraded to their respective age. If you progress too quickly, you’re likely to get slaughtered by your opponents.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/19.jpgWarlord - 25:gsicon:

Won 2000 Crowns in Multiplayer Battles

There’s no real strategy to winning. There occasionally might be an exploit in the game’s combat system in which you should try and exploit, but for the most part it’s up to your own skill and ingenuity to take down your opponent. Know who and what you can take down. Earning crowns is a lot easier towards the end game where the playing field is a little bit more balanced out and players have more crowns. It’s not worthwhile to try and farm crowns early off in the game. Once you feel comfortable in your current age, try and advance and repeat your upgrade process.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3220/20.jpgMulti Cultral - 25:gsicon:

Fully upgraded each civilization's unique troop

This will probably be the last achievement you will earn in the game. At this point, you probably don’t need crowns and you’re already in the 8th age – so, the best thing to do is just ‘snipe’ your opponents for their resources (mainly lumber) and pennants. Try your best to avoid opponents that you don’t need pennants from. To upgrade each respective unit to level 4, you need 715,000 wood and 7,500 pennants for each unit.
