Picking up the Old School achievement is not difficult. You can do it easily on a second play through or get it the first time around while following a guide. Pausing the game (start button) pauses the six-hour timer as well. If you push through it you will have your 1K in less than three hours; five if you let all the dialog and cutscenes play-out. The following guide has all the Do's, Pick-up's, and Talk-to's needed for the full 1000GS.

Chapter 1: Valadilene

Valadilene Inn:

Pick up the Reception Bell Key from the reception desk. Enter your inventory (X) and select/activate the key you just picked up. Use the key on the back of the automaton. Press the red button. Introduce yourself to the innkeeper by selecting the Kate dialog option. Inspect the suitcase near the door. Ask the innkeeper for Help. Up in your room: Pick up Fax #1 from the bedside table. Use your cell phone (LB) to call your boss (that hold muzak totally reminds me of Tenpenny Tower). Then back in the lobby: Talk to the innkeeper about the Mission. Pick up two Cog Wheels from the floor near Momo's table. Pick up two Cog Wheels from on Momo's table. Grab the brochure from the bulletin board.

Valadilene:

Exit the inn and go left two screens (Hold LT, RT, or RB to run). Pick up the Valadilene Gazette from the bench. Go up the steps of the building and place Fax #2 on the automaton's hand. Pull the lever on the automaton's chest. Pull the lever that is the automaton's left arm. Now enter the inner office, sit on the chair, and talk to the notary about the Mission. On your way out, grab the Telescopic Key from the umbrella stand in the reception area.

Church Grounds:

Go right three screens and speak to the old man sitting on the bench. Go right three more screens and enter the church grounds. Turn right and enter at the back of the church. Inspect the cross on the wall to find a key. Use the key on the dresser and grab the three punch cards from first, second, and fifth drawers. Open the third drawer and activate the mechanism on the side to reveal the Voralberg Key and Priest's Confession at the back of the drawer. Grab them, leave this room, and go to the elevator near the front of the church. Use the four Cog Wheels (small, large, medium, tiny), pull the lever, and enter the elevator. Use the Purple Punch Card on the automaton. Exit and proceed to the area to the left of the church. Use the Voralberg Key on the automaton's hat, enter the crypt, open the drawer, and grab the Valadilene Voice Cylinder and Press Cuts from the coffin.

Factory Grounds, Momo:

Go back one screen past the inn and enter the factory gate on the right. Use the Telescopic Key to open the gate. From the fountain, take the east path and follow it around back of the mansion and on to the hedge maze (note the ladder you pass along the way). Speak with the gardener and go through the gate on the left, forward, and through the partially concealed open gate. Grab the Voralberg Key from the fountain basin and return to the ladder. Use the Voralberg Key on the ladder to reach the attic. Go screen-left to search the desk for Anna's Diary and an Ink Bottle, then explore the other direction until you reach a dark alcove. Turn on the light and inspect the mammoth carving. As you leave the attic, you will encounter Momo. Speak with him and use the Pencil and Paper he gives you to make a Tracing of the mammoth carving. Give the Tracing to Momo and then follow him to his secret place... which is to exit the factory grounds and go left one screen past the notary's office, then through the gate and follow the linear path to Momo's sitting rock (note the rowboat along the way). When you finally reach him, continue up the steps past him and inspect the dam mechanism. Ask Momo for Help and use the Broken Lever he creates on the rowboat. Ask Momo for Help twice more and then follow the path just left of his sitting rock to a cave. Retrieve the Mammoth Toy Doll from the back of the cave and return to the factory grounds.

Factory Grounds, Production:

From the fountain, take the northwest path and activate the lever on the back-central post. Return to the fountain and take the west path and enter the factory. Go screen-right, through the wooden door, and power-up the factory by pulling the chain to the right and then the lever on the left. Return to the entry area and go left two screens, inspect and activate the forklift automaton, then enter the wooden door at the top of the screen. Release the wench behind the workbench and speak to the automaton (Oscar) about Production. Return to the factory entrance, go up the stairs, and enter the office there. Inspect the cupboard, activate the book, and play the Valadilene Voice Cylinder from your inventory. Grab the Hans-Anna Mechanical Toy and Voice Cylinders and exit the office. Continue to the end of the catwalk and use Oscar's Card on the control console. Flip the bottom-right red switch for a red light. Flip the left black lever four times to reveal a light color on the color indicator. Flip the right black lever for a cutscene. Return to the entry area and move to the bottom of the screen to access the production floor. Collect the Wooden Legs and take them back to Oscar.

Factory Grounds: The Station:

Return to the fountain, take the northeast path, and enter the station. Board and enter the train in front of the ticket office. Speak with Oscar about the Mission and then go back to the ticket office to speak with Oscar about the Mission again. Return to the notary's office and from behind the desk, inspect the stamping automaton. Add Ink, place the Release Permit, press the red button, retrieve the Stamped Permit, and head back to the station. Go back to the train and board it / use it to reach the other side of the tracks. Go to the bottom-most screen, and activate the crank-wheel, the lever, and the crank-wheel again on the winding machine. Now board the train and locate the trophy room. Place the Hans-Anna Mechanical Toy on the pedestal and the Mammoth Toy Doll on the table. Play both the Music Cylinder and Valadilene Voice Cylinder on the Mechanical Toy and then store them on the book shelf. Finally, give Oscar the Release Permit and Train Ticket to continue to the next chapter.

Chapter 2: Barrockstadt

The Station:

Exit and step off the train screen-left. Go screen-right and continue until Kate comments on the winding machine. Return to the train. Speak with Oscar about the Mission and the Bird. Grab the Mammoth Toy Doll from the trophy room. Exit and again step off screen-left. Go screen-left to the stairs. Continue up the stairs screen-right to reach the station entry area. Go screen-right and continue until you reach the barge. Speak with the couple about Help. Exit the station, and go to the university on the opposite side of the courtyard.

The University:

Speak with the student and enter the university. Go right at the mammoth skeleton display. Speak with the professor about Hans. Speak with him again to give him the Mammoth Toy Doll. Follow him into the science lab and inspect the cabinet on the left back wall for a Voice Cylinder. Inspect the bottom-right counter area for Yangala-cola Powder and a Test Tube Holder. Return to mammoth skeleton display and go left. The first doorway leads to the Library. On the lower level speak with one of the students and grab the Amerzone Book from one of the tables. On the upper level, right side, use the ladder to gain the Mushroom Guide. Leave the library and continue to and through the next door to speak with the rectors about Kate, Hans, Train, Money, and Sauvignon.

Sauvignon:

Return to the science lab and ask the professor about Sauvignon. Return to the station entry area, cross the bridge, and go down the stairs, screen-left. Continue to the stationmaster and ask him about Sauvignon and then pick up the Hook near the water's edge. Note the stationmaster moves to the station entry area. Return to the university and ask both the professor and then the rectors about Sauvignon again. Stop by the Library and speak to the guy who has appeared on the ladder. Now ask the stationmaster about Sauvignon one last time. Cross both bridges and follow the forested path to the station garden where you can grab some Sauvignon Grapes. Leave the garden and upon exiting the forested path, follow the stone platform up to where you can use the Sauvignon Grapes on the birds by the ladder. Climb the ladders and use the Test Tube Holder to grab the Cuckoo's Egg. Head back to the university and the stationmaster will give you a Wine Bottle as you pass. Use the Cuckoo's Egg on the far side of the mechanical bandstand in front of the university. Activate the wheel to enter, climb down the ladder, and activate the lever. Now ask the rectors about Money.

The Barge:

Return to the barge, give the couple the Money, and pick up the Lock Key they toss your way. Head up to the station entry area and continue in that same direction to the lock control console. Use the Lock Key and key in “42*” to lower the water. Return to the barge, speak with the couple about the Locks, and return to the control console to key in “41*” to raise the water. Cross over the first bridge to the center platform and go down past the train to ask the couple about Help. Use the Hook on the chain they toss your way and then continue to where Kate first commented about the winding machine. After the phone call, go back to the university. Approach the large mammoth skeleton, and go up the steps for a long cutscene. After the lecture, go back to the science lab to grab the mammoth doll and lecture notes from the table and speak to the professor about the Mission.

The Train:

Go back to the train and board it / use it to reach the other side of the tracks. Activate the crank-wheel and lever on the winding machine and re-board the train. Go to the trophy room to watch the Barrockstadt Voice Cylinder and store it with the others. Return the Mammoth Toy Doll to the table and go speak with Oscar about the Mission. Leave the train screen-right and speak with Oscar at the ticket office. Circle around the ticket office and enter the door set in the wall. Climb the stairs and continue toward the camera to speak with Captain Malatesta about the Mission. Adjust the telescope, pour some Wine, and spike the wine with the Yangala-cola Powder to win the Exit Visa. Give the Exit Visa to Oscar at the ticket office. Board the train and give Oscar the Train Ticket.

Chapter 3: Komkolzgrad

The Rail Platform:

Leave the train screen-right. Go to the giant automaton in the distance and climb the ladder. Grab Hans' Designs, the Voice Cylinder, and the Handle from the shelf above the bed. Use the Handle on the control console. Wind-up the train by pushing the handle up twice, pressing the red button once, and pulling the handle down twice. Return to the train and watch the last Voice Cylinder to unlock the Music Box achievement. See to Oscar in the back room and grab the Metal Shears from the floor. Return to the giant automaton, activate the control panel, and push the handle up once. Exit the room, jump onto the metal shelf, and use the Metal Shears to clear the blocked window. Enter and get the Spark Plug from the shelf next to the fire extinguisher. Go back by returning the automaton to its starting position. Go towards the opposite end (past the train) and pull the lever found under the spotlight. Enter the elevator.

The Factory:

Use the Spark Plug on the generator next to Kate and turn it on. Follow the tunnel until you spy another elevator lever. Go up, screen-right, up the stairs, and grab the screwdriver from the organ keyboard. Come back to the elevator and go two screens in the other direction. Spot the gray metal panel just over Kate's shoulder when she enters this screen. Put the screwdriver to it and climb up. Enter the door to Kate's left and speak to the thief about the Mission. Climb back down and enter the container the thief just lowered. Grab the Letters to Helena, the Press Cuts, and give your mother a call with the cell phone. Afterward, go back and ask the thief about Aralbad and the Mission. Exit his room and board the monorail just there on the back wall of the same platform.

The Cosmodrome:

Follow the path for two screens and go up the distant stairs over on the left. Note the mostly concealed stairs under the red light. Go right two screens and activate the valve wheel on the corner of the platform. Go back one screen, go up onto the platform, and enter the capsule. Cancel out from the automatic conversation with Boris and pick up the Vodka from the floor. Enter again and grab the Key and Cancellation Letter from the shelf above the table. Exit, and just outside the capsule, locate the crane control panel. Activate it with the Key and then push the horizontal lever to the left, push the left-most vertical lever up, and then the middle vertical lever up. Now leave the platform and continue past Boris, to the cosmodrome. Circle around to the right one screen. This triggers a dialog option with Boris, so go back to him and ask him about Airship to receive the Airship Key. Continue to the cosmodrome and again circle around the right side. Go up the distant stairs. Use the Airship key to unlock the door and pull the lever to the right of the autopilot automaton to learn things are not working. Go back the way you came, and circle around the left side of the cosmodrome to find Boris wandering around. Speak with him and he will tell you he wants to see the stars. Go up the stairs on the right side of this screen to enter the control center. Inspect the control panel. Grab and use the Voralberg Key. Remove the small metal plate and reconnect the electric wires. Activate the I/O lever. Remove the Blood Testing Apparatus (right-most item) and take it to Boris and use it on him. Bring the blood sample back and replace the Apparatus. Now press the up/down button. Press the syringe button. Boris' blood fails testing, so Kate has to supply a bit of her own... Activate the Blood Testing Apparatus and press the syringe button a second time. Press the spin button. And finally, once Boris makes it to the ship, press the triangle button. Exit the control center and pick up the Crank Handle where you had entered the cosmodrome area. Continue to backtrack, past the capsule, and go up those stairs under the red light. Go to the far side of this platform and use the Crank Handle on the siren. Finally, return to the airship and pull the lever.

Chapter 4. Aralbad

The Kronsky Hotel:

Exit the airship and enter the hotel. Approach the desk clerk and cancel out of the automatic dialog. Inspect the closet next to the iron gate, grab the Bottle of Detergent, and use it on the fountain just outside. Go back in the hotel, open the curtains, and ring the service bell on the counter. From behind the counter, inspect the log book and note Helena's resident code (1270), grab a Hotel Brochure, and press the red button to unlock the iron gate. Enter the gate, turn left through the arch doorway, and begin your counter-clockwise exploration around the central pool. Speak with James the automaton nurse about Mission and Help. Continue to the doors leading outside and enter Helena's resident code to discover that it doesn't work. From the next screen, enter the corridor at the back wall and swipe a Crystal Dish from the service table. Next, enter the room with the seahorse over the door and collect the Temporary Code from the floor. And lastly, chat up the two fellas playing chess. Now go back and use the Temporary Code (0968), don the protective mask, and go speak with Helena at the end of the pier. Afterward, exit the gazebo, and grab the small green bell hooked to the small post at the lower-left edge of the pier. Mount it on a similar post back at the beginning of the pier and give it a ring before heading back inside. Return the protective mask and go speak with James again.

Mixology:

Ask Helena about Hans. Take the Lemon and Crystallized Honey from under the bar. Head to the hot water bath at the opposite side of the pool, where the two men are playing chess, and turn the wheel. Place the Crystallized Honey in the hot water bath to get Liquid Honey. Return to the bar and activate the mixologist contraption. First look to the top row... Put the Lemon in the left-most slot. Honey in the right-most slot, Vodka next to the Honey, and grab the Musical Score. You can call that other hotel on your cell phone and get the recipie, or you can just go ahead and make it. Either way, here are the steps:

Press the I/O button

Press the second piano key from the left

Press the switch to the right of the piano keys.

Press the third piano key from the left.

Press the honeycomb, snowflake, lemon, and automaton buttons.

After Helena drinks the cocktail and claims it had no effect, place the Crystal Dish down at the end of the bar and speak with her again. Afterward, leave the hotel and return to the airship.

Chapter 5. Komkolzgrad / Aralbad

Komkolzgrad Factory

Head up to the cage and cut the lock with the Metal Shears. Enter the cage and use the screwdriver to take the Oscar's hands back from the organist. Go back down the stairs to trigger a cutscene. Afterward, go up/forward and activate the elevator to go back to the mine tunnel. Go to the end of the tunnel and pull the lever opposite the generator. Exit though the air shaft opened by the explosion. Grab the dynamite from the box near the elevator. Go up to the locomotive and speak with Oscar. Get on the train and then get off again. Speak with Oscar again and then place the Dynamite at the base of the of the giant automaton.

Aralbad Hotel

Exit and leave the train screen-right. Go up to the locomotive and use the winding machine Speak with Oscar about the Mission. Return to the hotel, ring the service bell, ask Felix about the Mission, and get the Mammoth Doll from the box next to the television. Talk with Helena back at the bar. Go out to the pier and speak with Hans to trigger the final cutscene.

Is it a fun game... yeah, I think so, mostly. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. It's a slower paced game driven by story and exploration. I liked the story well enough, the environments, and most of the puzzles. I first played it back in 2002?/2003? on the PC, and seem to remember some of the puzzles being more frustration than fun. This walkthrough is just a heavy-handed edit of the one I had written for it way back then... so puzzles didn't pose a problem this time around. I was initially frustrated with getting the character stuck on invisible corners, but that gets better once you adopt tractor-trailer driving tactics. And I found myself frequently rolling my eyes at some of the never ending dialog that often seemed designed to frustrate, not entertain. ...so, actually, I think the game might be quite a bit less fun without a guide... Having a guide on hand will enable you to avoid most of the dialog-induced ear-bleeding and quickly workout those "What the hell am I missing" moments.

Followed the guide (and it's great, got my 1000G!), but it's missing one little bit at the end of this. You have to go back to the Laboratory after the cutscene to collect some papers and the Mammoth Doll off the desk, then talk to the professor about the Mission.

That's what I was about to mention. After the museum lecture, you need to go back to the paleontologist to get the mammoth doll back and his papers about the Ark. Also, it might be worth noting that the last mammoth item you get from the package in the hotel should be the final item for the achievement.

worked like a charm. gonna start the 2nd but requires a little more work on my end for that one. thx for this one tho

For Syberia 2 I ended up using the roadmap on XboxAchievements for missable items and talking to characters:

http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62667...

along with this as the main walkthrough:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/562371-syberia-ii/faqs/38159

This for some images and double checking when I got stuck with the other walkthrough:

http://www.gameboomers.com/wtcheats/pcSs/Syberia%20II/i....htm

This for a video walkthrough when nothing seemed to work:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL83810C0A2A7E69A1

Also, if something doesn't work right then read further on in the GameFAQs walkthrough to see if there is anything else you might want to do in a different order. For example, I couldn't get a "help" option on the candy shop guy until I got another item and then went back to the paragraph above in the walkthrough to continue.

So as you can probably tell, it's all a bit of a mess which might be as a result of me wanting to get it all done in a single playthrough...which I did. If you're not bothered about it taking longer though, then you may want to leave the 6 hour completion achievement for a second playthrough. It's completely doable in a single playthrough though.

Great guide EXM9000, just got my 1000GS using this as I missed the Snoop and the under 6h's cheevies first time round, thanks for such a great walkthrough ;) I remember playing this back in the day on the original XBOX but I must say they made a bit of a mess with the xbox360 version and all the damn invisible walls everywhere. Such a shame as it was a really good story/game back then.
