Saints Row The Third Challenge Guide

(Written by tripleb2k and Koopakiller64)

Here are the following 41 Challenges in the Game

Base Jumps Nailed (Complete 15 Base jumps)

After jumping off a building or out of a plane/helicopter, press Y to open the parachute. Press Y again and you’ll enter into a Base Jump challenge.

- An easy method for this is at the Airport. Grab a helicopter and fly up for about 6 seconds. Dive out and do a Base Jump. The mark should be nearly underneath you (may take a few tries to get the hang of it). The Helicopter should land back on the helipad. Repeat until you're done. If the chopper blows up, there should be a chopper on the helipad beside it.

Big Air Distance (Jump a total of 1524 Metres)

Finding Special Jumps located around Steelport will help a lot. It will likely come in time based on the amount of driving and high speed chases you will find yourself in through the game.

- If you're far enough in the game, the bridges should be raised around the middle island (Sunset Park and Loren Square areas) and you can keep using them as ramps. Just keep going back and forth over the bridges. NOS will help you make longer jumps.

Boats Destroyed (Destroy 25 Boats)

- If you want to get this out of the way, buy Rondini’s Boat Dock. Your boats will spawn there and you can destroy them. Drive around the block and come back. Your boats will respawn so you can destroy them again.

Cars Destroyed (Destroy 300 Cars)

This adds up fairly quickly as enemies usually arrive in a car or you’ll be asked to defend someone while destroying a never ending lineup of cars. Playthrough the story and this will come in time. You can also just go on a murder spree and destroy a crap load of cars for fun. Activities like Tank Mayhem will contribute as well.

Car Torpedo Total Damage (Cause 2000 Damage)

Drive a fast car and bail before crashing into a wall. I used the Wraith (in your garage after completing a mission) with nitrous.

- I suggest an Alley with a wall at the end to avoid any other collisions.

- Some players are reporting problems with the damage not being added (myself included). Avoid hitting other cars, A.I. and objects. Crashing straight into a wall and nothing else will count.

Carjackings (Car jack 250 cars)

Simply steal a car with a driver in it. For quick carjackings, run towards the car and press Y. It will make carjacking much faster.

Compliments Paid (Pay 50 Compliments)

Run up to gang members and give them your Compliment gesture :dright:. You can follow this up with your taunt and you can get those 2 challenges done quickly. Remember, this can NOT be done while the enemies are hostile to you. You must find them when they are walking around the city.

Decker Specialists Killed (Kill 50 Decker Specialists)

Decker Specialists are the fast moving females with the power hammer. They tend to spawn if you raise your Decker notoriety to 3 or 4 stars. When they start appearing try to ram them with a vehicle to knock them over and start emptying your SMG clips into them from the safety of your vehicle. If they get back up, knock em back down again.

Distance Traveled (Travel 762000 metres)

All forms of transport counts towards this, ground, air and boat. This won’t be like Mafia II where you’re done the game and you’re only 20% done. This will come near the end of the game or earlier (depending on exploration).

- The easiest way too boost this is to speed down the interstate in the Temptress or fly through the skies in a F-69 VTOL.

Emus Destroyed (Destroy 50 Emus)

Emus look like Smart Cars. They’re very small and appear randomly around the map.

- There are a few Survival games where you will fight mascots and they will drive these.

- When you find one, steal it and save it in your garage. Once it's saved, bring it outside and blow it to smithereens. Return to your garage and repeat.

Gang Ops Defeated (Defeat 32 Gang Operations).

Gang Operations will appear as a fast with a pink square in the background on your map. They usually contain 10 gang members or more. Most of these can easily be taken out with a helicopter in 2-3 shots or call in an air strike. There are a few tricky ones where Gang Ops are located on top of buildings where you will need a helicopter. However, most of these will be found easily by driving around the city while doing other missions.

Gang Members Taunted (Taunt 50 Gang Members):

Simply walk up to Non-Hostile gang members and taunt them :dleft:. This can NOT be done when the gang member are in the middle of a firefight. Although it’s pretty funny to taunt them while they’re shooting at you, it does not count. Police, Military or Stag do not count.

- After you take over gangs territory, they will appear around your Strongholds in very small groups. If you don’t have this challenge after the game is over, drive around your Strongholds and look for gang members. Taunt them and ran back inside to eliminate any hostility towards you. Go back outside and repeat.

- People have said this is glitched because taunts haven't counted. Make sure you're standing in front of the gang members so they see you. If they taunt you back and receive respect, it should count.

- IMPORTANT - For getting Gang Taunts after you complete the game, click this THREAD (Credit to: DeadlySinz86)

Grenade Kills (Kill 50 Enemies with Grenades)

You will be given an infinite amount of grenades in the Mayhem Activities. Throw your grenades at every officer and gang member that approaches you to quickly boost this challenge.

Headshots (Get 500 headshots)

Use the Shepard Pistol since it's very precise (though most guns will do the trick if you're close enough).

Helicopters Destroyed (Destroy 50 Helicopters)

Like "Cars Destroyed," You will likely get this by playing through the story.

- Upgrading your Annihilator (Rocket Launcher) to Level 4 will add a lock-on target feature.

- If you are feeling like a badass, go into the armory. There are usually 5-7 helicopters on the island. Also, there are 3-4 around the airport as well.

- You can also use a Tank or F-69 VTOL for easy kills.

Hoods Explored (Explore 18 Hoods)

Most of these will come from random exploration or the story. The fastest way is to fly around in a Helicopter close to the ground. Most hoods have stores in them so driving around to find out which store is where will likely gain you this challenge. However, there are some places like Port Pryor that do not have any stores located in them but a Stronghold later on.

Hostages Taken (Take 50 Hostages):

Hijacking a vehicle with a passenger will allow you to take them as a Hostage.

- You don't need to complete the challenge. Simply start the mini game and jump out. It will count as a Hostage taken (Thanks Petey247)

Human Shields Used (Use 150 Human Shields)

Anyone is fair game for this. You can use gang members, cops, enemies, little old ladies. Just run up to them and press Y.

Kill Brutes (Kill 30 Brutes)

Simply kill 30 Brutes. You will likely be going for this anyways since 1 of the achievements requires you to kill 50 Brutes. Brutes are often found with Gangs in later levels and also Professor Genki’s Reality Show.

No-Weapon Kills

Use you fists and kick some ass. The best way is to run towards an enemy and press Y. This is easily done on the random Gang members around Steelport.

Top Posters In This Topic

Luchadore Specialist Killed (Kill 50)

These guys will carry a Grenade launcher that launch multiple grenades at once. They spawn around 3 star notoriety. They will also spawn often near the end of the game.

Near Misses (500 Near Misses)

The easiest way to do this is drive in the centre of the road. You’ll get near misses from cars coming towards you and besides you. Since driving in the centre is normally the quickest way to get around, this will come quickly just by exploration and playing through the game.

Mascots Killed (Kill 200 Mascots)

Mascots are around stillwater. They’ll be dressed up as Pop cans, Hotdogs, Johnny Gat suits, etc. Kill 200 of them.

- A few of the Survival missions will require you to fight multiple Mascots. You can easily get 60-75 Mascot kills in Time Survival. Once again, this Survival call appears to be random.

- Replaying Genki activities will also boost this quickly.

Multi Kills (500 Multi Kills)

Blowing up cars or helicopters with multiple enemies inside, throwing grenades into a crowd, etc will all count toward this. Use Rockets and Grenades when you have them to make this challenge go by faster. If not, aim at cars enemies are hiding behind to blow them up and get some easy kills.

Morningstar Specialists (Kill 50)

Morningstar Specialists are the snipers in the helicopters. They can be annoying to kill individually so try and destroy the helicopter so you kill 2 at once. They usually appear around Notoriety level 3.

Nutshots (Shoot 25 enemy Nuts)

Nutshots can be annoying at times because enemies will position themselves with their leg blocking their sack. Simply aim at the crotch and fire!

Oncoming Lane Distance (Drive 30480 metres into oncoming traffic)

When driving on the highway, try to drive in the opposite lane. On smaller roads, try to stick your car as far to the left as possible. Drive on the wrong side of the road whenever you can (you get rep points too so you may as well).

People Run Over (Run over 500 People)

Drive around on the sidewalks and have fun. This is another challenge that will likely come to you quickly as the A.I. in this game is pretty dumb and never gets out of the way.

Powerslide Time (Powerslide for 300 seconds)

When turning at a high rate of speed, press A for the hand break and you’ll enter a power slide. The easiest way to do this is with a motorcycle on the airport runway. When working on the Wheelie Challenge, try and Powerslide in a large circle. It may take a few tries but you’ll get a rhythm going where you’ll Powerslide for 10-15 seconds at a time. If you get enough speed going down the runway, start a powerslide and if done right, you'll be able to go much longer.

Shortcuts Found (Find 50 Shortcuts)

Shortcuts are often going through alleyways or in between buildings/houses. You'll receive a small notification saying "GPS Shortcut unlocked." If you see a clear view to another road going through an alley, etc, drive through it because it likely counts. There are over 263 in the game so having to find only 50 is a good deal.

Stag Commando’s Killed (Kill 25 Commando’s)

There will be a mission later in the game called Air Steelport where all the enemies will be Stag Commando’s.

- If you complete the game and don't have this challenge, head to the large park in the centre island. Kill the Stag there to raise your notoriety. Around notoriety level 4, Stag Commando's will begin spawning.

Survival Completed (Survive 26 Survival missions)

These happen randomly. After standing around for a few moments, you will receive a call that another Gang, Police or Mascots are nearby and you need to take them out. You will have to survive a couple waves of enemies. Survival works in 2 ways

- Time: Waves have time limits. Simply survive. They become more difficult so having crew with you can be helpful. Sometimes, your gang will randomly come in later rounds to help you out.

- Kills: Waves will be determined by kills. You will need to get anywhere between 6-15 kills. The middle waves sometimes require more kills. Make sure you have a good team with you as other gang members do NOT come in later rounds.

- If you complete the game with all areas in your control, just wait 5-10 minutes and you'll receive a phone call.

Stoppie Distance (Stoppie for 305 metres)

This is the reverse of Wheelie. Instead you want to break and press forward on the left-stick. Working on this at the airport along with the Wheelie Challenge is a good move. You can get this done in a few runs down the Airport runway.

Stores Robbed (Rob 15 Stores)

Upon entering a store, draw your weapon and point it at the clerk. You'll need to keep your gun pointed on them the whole time or else they'll drop to the floor instead of getting the money.

- Find 2 stores you own near each other. Rob one store over and over again while you use the other one to get the cops or gangs notoriety to 0 again.

Streaking Time (Streak for 600 Seconds)

When you are in your crib, open your wardrobe and remove all clothing. Run outside and press down on the d-pad. You will begin the streaking mini game. It doesn’t matter how far you get in the game, you just have to streak for 600 seconds. Should take 10 minutes to complete.

Tanks Destroyed (Destroy 25 Tanks)

At Police Notoriety level 5, Tanks will spawn. Be sure to have a lot of Rockets. If not, hijack the Tank and destroy everything in sight. Fun and destructive. Tank Mayhem is another good way to complete this.

Two-Wheel Distance (Drive 762 Metres)

- When you are on a double highway road (like the ones linking the islands) simply drive the car over the barrier as half the car hanging over the side and the car will be in a tilted position, then gently drive.. With a little training you will get the hang of it... I scored around 50-70 meters each time (Thank you UnholyShinigami)

Vehicle Mod Shop (Spend $20000 on cars at Rim Jobs)

Steal random cars and take them in to Rim Jobs. Get a paint job or minor changes. Everything helps.

Vehicle Surfing Time (Vehicle Surf for 600 seconds):

Jump onto the hood of a car and press Y. Try to keep the left stick in the middle of the bar. Too far to the left or right will cause you to fall off.

Wheelie Distance (3046 Metres)

I strongly recommend doing this at the airport. Since there are no cars, pedestrians or airplanes on the runway, you’ll have a long open track to complete this.

Windshield Cannon Distance (Fly 304 Metres Total)

- Do this during the Insurance Fraud activity. The physics are pretty loose you'll smash through the windshield much easier. You will also control your character while flying giving you a few extra metres.

As I said in another thread, this is not true. I've taunted enemy gang members who were shooting me and received taunting credits occasionally. It's pretty much just as unreliable as taunting gang members who aren't shooting at you.

I've never had success in combat. I've tried a few times beside gang members that weren't hostile without success but instantly ran in front of them to try again. It always worked when I was standing in front of them. I'd get the 'taunting' respect in the corner saying I did it. Maybe it's just a few people but it is true. Because you haven't had luck doesn't mean it's not true for everyone.

I like your Car Torpedo explanation, gonna try that tomorrow. Having a horrible (yet hilarious/fun) time trying to ram my car into other vehicles, hooray!

If others are like me and have been trained since forever to aim at the head, "Nut Shots" may not come easily. After the main story I would try to snipe gang members in the balls and no luck. What worked for me was to return to the wonderful Professor Genki's and his Super Ethical Reality Climax. For some reason it was fairly easy to get nutshots on the mascots in the one I chose (forget which). I believe I was dual wielding the silver pistols with glorious infinite ammo, and I would walk up to them at medium/close range, aim for balls and POW, one-shot-one-kill-one-testicle-left. A final tip, these mascots are not old men with saggy balls, aim a bit higher than you think you may need to (perhaps they're sagging their costume bottoms? who knows)

You do not need to complete the hostage diversion to make it count towards the hostage challenge...

My english aint that good but im pretty sure its understandable.. if you have trouble understanding my tip, i will upload a pic showing you what i mean...

I have 5 taunts so far and all 5 have been from taunting gang member who weren't attacking me. Later on in the game, I had an infinite spawn on one of the Gang Operations. Everytime I set them on fire (inc. bullets) or killed them, I could taunt them. I got about 2 x15 taunt chains going and they didn't add up to the total :(

You can both try to tell me I'm wrong all you want, but I know what happened in my own game. I have successfully taunted gang members who were shooting at me and it counted towards my challenge total. Keep lying to people and saying it can't be done all you want, I'll be here telling people the truth.

Hello i need help i have gain control off all of steelport 100% but i forgot about the challenges for taunting gang members is there a way i can still do it without having to start a new game ?

YES! I just had to do the same thing, for about 43 taunts, here is what I did.

1. Travel to the following spot in Rosen Oaks: Follow the wide road that extends from the split two-way highway on the southwest corner of the island. Place a bookmark on this road, somewhere underneath the Meth Lab property. I placed mine on that wide road below the Meth Lab and above the entrance to the tunnel.

2. Travel to that location, if coming from the split two-way highway (west to east), you may even see a house with 3 Morning Star cars parked in front of it (although the gang members are rarely there). Cruise along the road, investigating the red-dots on your mini map. If they're cops, let them be, if they're Morning Star (red/black gang), proceed to step 3.

3. Taunt the gang member. Hopefully there will be another 1 or 2 in the area also. Once your taunt registers (even if it doesn't), kill all 2-3 Morning Star and try to get your notoriety up to 3-4 stars (infinite rocket launcher ammo FTW). Once you get to a high notoriety level and consistently have cars/trucks/choppers coming your way, proceed to step 4.

4. Set your GPS for the Friendly Fire location to your northwest. String along the baddies as you make your way here. Try to avoid cops and just keep the Morning Star following you and spawning. Once at Friendly Fire you will start the rinse and repeat cycle. Buy the Friendly Fire if you don't own it already.

5. It's best to have 2 gang cars (4-8 members) on hand when you begin. Also, I would routinely one-shot-rpg the SUV/trucks with Brutes in them as they make things messy (also shoot down choppers w/ specialist snipers). Easiest when dealing with sedans + foot soldiers. Okay, so you've got your 1-2 cars and 4-8 gang members. Slowly blow up one car with your pistols. An RPG blast will be powerful and blow up everyone in the area, leaving you no one to taunt. By destroying the cars to the smoking/fire stage, the gang members will give the vehicle some space before it blows, hopefully leaving 2-4 of them alive (the other car you left is just in case this first one takes everyone down to the grave). These 2-4 alive no longer have a car to flee in, so proceed to duck into the Friendly Fire (just need to barely cross through the doorway), head back out to the intersection, and taunt a gang member. Now depending on how many you have left w/o an escape vehicle, you can repeat this (duck into friendly fire, then taunt) on those other members (remember, taunting the same gang member twice will still yield retaliations and notoriety increase, but will not "score" you a Taunt for the challenge). Once you're out of freestanding gang members, start the cycle again by blowing shit up and getting them pissed. Wait to have 2 cars, slowly blow one with pistols, get 2-4 standing around, duck into friendly fire, taunt, friendly fire, taunt, etc.

It may take a little while but this is a reliable way to do this solo. As I stated in another thread you can go into co-op on your most recent SP save and everything will carry over, but this is how I got the vast majority of my taunts.

Just remember, have gang-only notoriety around a store you own, Morning Star is best (Decker and especially Luchador specialists are a bitch), take care of choppers and Brute vehicles, and don't leave gang members their vehicle to escape in (otherwise as soon as you enter FF or another store and lose your notoriety, they pack up and go and it's hard if not impossible to get the taunt in - destroy the vehicle with pistols to get a slow burn they can run away from). Finally, ALWAYS LEAVE 1-2 GANG MEMBERS so that you can kill them, boost your notoriety, and start the cycle again.

Good luck!

I've managed to do it a few times in combat but

never on a consistent basis. It looks like the game is just not that reliable when it comes to recognizing taunts in that siituation and counting them accordingly.

Good strategy, I went with the: start the hard snatch in this area and go after the limo which gets your notoriety up to 4 stars. wait till about 3 or so cars are arund and then manualy abort the activity. After that, the cars are still there for you to blow up. which leads to new notoriety. go to nearest store and from there it's smooth sailing...

I just did the Specialist challenges, here's some tips that are hopefully helpful in getting them quickly-

Decker & Luchadore - use one of the attack choppers to simply hunt down and kill one to build up notoriety, then hang around and wait for some more to show up. Find yourself somewhere where your back is safe (eg hover just off the edge of the island so you face them as they appear) and just blast away. Deckers will be quicker because at 4 stars you get 2 specialists per vehicle instead of one. A handy place to do the Luchadore one is just to the west of their casino down the bottom left of the map, their vehicles spawn on the bridge so you can just hold down the fire missile button and watch them explode.

Morningstar- you want to do this one on foot- at 5 stars the specialists (snipers usually in helicopters) are usually replaced by attack choppers, so your chopper gets taken out quickly. So instead get up to 3 stars and just shoot down the specialists, do this near a safe house so if you hit 4/5 stars you can reset and start again. Recommend the SMG with incendiary bullets because they take out choppers real quick.

I'm about 30% of the way through the game so I'm not sure if there are enough enemies in the storyline to do these challenges naturally, which is why I decided to get it out of the way sooner.

the morning star gang has helicopters that come in at 3-4 stars. with 0% bullet damage(and any others) you can stand there and rack up the needed aircraft kills.

mascotts also appear in prof. genkis reality climax activity, by the time youve played it 6 times you should have nearly enough kills. also seem to be abundant near stadium.

, uh, okay. thats ALOT of S**t to do. my friend already has it.

i was wondering of the taunt, how to do it-:dleft:mean. :dright:friend.

NO Firefight, won't count, got it. while he LOOKING AT YOU.

But, during a Firefight, i taunt gangs, as would anybody.

my taunt: F**K YOU. l_

okay then WHERE DO I FIND these WALKING GANGS, so i can Taunt, and don't say, anywhere. just point me to the location of the walking gang,

You're correct about the taunt. I should make that clearer in my guide.

The walking gangs will spawn randomly but they will NOT spawn nearly as much if you have control of a distract. Head to a distract you do not control and drive around. They'll start spawning in 2-3 members. Jump out and taunt.
