Introduction:

Welcome to The Scorchers DLC for RAGE. This DLC has a total of 10 achievements for 250:gsicon:. This DLC can be started at any point in the story, although you must have completed the first Hagar quest; Ghost Hideout. Check out this link for more info. When beginning, you'll receive a quest called; "Rumbles in the Dark." This is the quest that begins the DLC. There are no missable achievements, and everything can be obtained in one playthrough.

Campaign Playthrough:

Brought in exclusively to The Scorchers DLC, is the new difficulty; Ultra Nightmare. With this new difficulty setting, you must complete the base campaign on the highest setting. If you have completed the campaign already, you must play through it all over again to earn the achievement. Ultra Nightmare isn't much harder than Nightmare, though. Be sure to follow the tips for completing on Nightmare and you'll unlock Night Terrors.

DLC Playthrough:

When starting out the DLC, you'll receive a message with the "Rumbles in the Dark" quest. Head to the Hagar settlement to begin. There's a total of 5 missions that are included with this DLC totaling 125:gsicon:. While playing through the campaign, you'll receive the Nailgun; which includes two other achievements, Rebar Pie and Wall Hack. Rebar Pie can be unlocked with much trouble, but Wall Hack will need some precise shooting. None of the achievements are missable, and can be completed at any time.

Mop-Up:

After completing the DLC's story (and the base campaign) the only achievements you'll have left are Lucky Charm and Foursome. During the story, you'll come across Jackpots inside Wellspring. Inside are both machines for the above achievements. Each one is luck-based and there's no real method to unlocking them. Just keep at it until you're done.

Conclusion:

All in all, not an entirely too difficult. Night Terrors is a bit of a let-down of an achievement if you've already completed the campaign. The DLC is short, and mildly sweet, but good nonetheless. It goes to show that DLCs can come out after a game's life has (almost) been run out.

Finish the Campaign on Ultra Nightmare difficulty

Ultra Nightmare is the highest difficulty that is available, right after Nightmare. This achievement is for completing the base campaign on Ultra Nightmare, not just the DLC. If you have completed the game's campaign already, you'll have to complete it a second time on Ultra Nightmare. There isn't much a difference in difficulty in comparison to Nightmare mode. The same rules apply;

  • Make sure you're stocked up on Medkits.
  • Watch your defib bar.
  • Don't rush into battle.
  • Make use of cover.

Complete Hagar Caves in The Scorchers job path

This is the first mission in the DLC. Travel to the Hagar Settlement and make your way to the rear of the site. Travel to the caves to begin your mission.

This achievement is story related and cannot be missed.

Bet and win on Green in the Roly-Poly minigame

The Roly-Poly minigame is found inside Jackpots in Wellspring. This prevously locked door at the end of the alley in Wellspring now offers two new gambling minigames to play. Roly-Poly is at the back and plays exactly like Roulette. Green is counted as the number 0, and the bet is 13:1. This achievement is entirely luck based. You may get this achievement on the first try, or the 1000th. Just keep replaying and betting the minimum until you unlock the achievement.

Win with a Four of a Kind in the Video Poker minigame

The Video Poker machine is located inside Jackpots. There are 4 machines to choose from inside, however they are all the same. This plays exactly like poker, and to achieve 4 of a kind is going to take a persistent, lucky hand. You'll need to obtain 4 of the same cards within 3 deals. Attempt to hold higher value cards, (Jack, Queen, King Ace) since they're easier to spot. However, if you manage more than one card on your first deal, hold those. There is no real strategy here, but as long as you keep at it, you'll get lucky.

Wall Hack 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill 2 enemies with one Railgun Slug shot through a wall

Introduced into this DLC is a new weapon called the Railgun. You come across the railgun after receiving it from Sarah after completing the Hagar Caves quest. The Railgun has three different ammo types;

  • Nails
  • Slugs
  • Rebar

You can select which type you want to use by selecting :rbbut: and using the :ls: to navigate. With the Slug rounds, the Railgun offers an x-ray scope to view enemies through walls. It's going to be tough to line up two enemies at once (let alone through a wall), a good spot it right in the beginning of the Refinery level. After progressing a short way through, on the right hand side of the large corridor you're in, head down that way and there will be three enemies all talking with each other. You can take the shot through the wall next to the door.

Pin an enemy to a surface with a Rebar ammo shot

To choose the Rebar ammo type, be sure to choose it from the quick menu by selecting :rbbut: and :ls:. The rebar clip of the Railgun only has one shot and takes a little while to reload. Any good opportunity can be taken when an enemy is behind cover. As long as he's close to a wall behind him, aim high and he'll stick.

It looks really good so far. The only thing I see is in the roadmap you have all the achievements as online achievements. Other than that great work. I'm waiting for the update to download so I can finally play.

Technically, you can complete the DLC offline. But since its DLC, you need to download it from LIVE. I thought about this when I was entering it into the guide. Still unsure. :p

FUCK YOU ID SOFTWARE. Why is this an Achievement? Absolutely absurd. The entire Campaign again? I dunno if I'll do it just for the sake of completion because that's unreasonable.

Regardless, thanks for the guide!

I don't have the DLC yet but I read that there was now a mission select after you've completed the game. I'm only half way through on Nightmare so can I switch to Ultra Nightmare, finish off the game and then use the mission select to replay the missions I've already done on Ultra Nightmare?

I agree. You don't support your game for 14 months, then you throw this shit out there? Someone should be shot for this achievement, you don't add another difficulty 14 months after a games release and add an achievement for it. That's just a dick move. Fuck id software, I hope they go under for this stupidity. I'll add id to my "do-not-buy" list along with Epic Games, not supporting idiot developers who make horrible achievement decisions anymore. Shame too, I loved this game and now I hate it because of this new difficulty making me waste another 15-20 hours when I have a stack of unplayed games waiting to be opened.

Is Rebar Pie glitched, but in a good way? So I just started firing the rebar bolts at the first group of enemies in the refinery and none of them stuck to the wall. I paused the game to reload and then suddenly the trophy unlocked, this happened twice (My main and alt account). Anybody else had this happen to them?

Also, feel free to use these in your guide :)

It's possible. I'm not entirely sure on the requirements for completing the game on Ultra Nightmare. What you are saying would make sense, but I'm not 100% sure.

really hard to see if this works considering how long ps3 trophies take to unlock. They seem like they take forever to pop.

Wall Hack works ok, the trophy does pop eventually :p. That's one of the things I hate about the PS3, it's because they weren't originally on the PS3 and they got patched in. The vita has them pop instantly.

Trophy doesn't pop in rebar because the game decided to earn it without me even pinning anybody to the wall before hand. Just repeat what I do and you'll be fine :)

You wanna tell me how you beat the Dusty 8 Trial to earn your 30 racing credits to buy weapons for your buggy? This is the mission right after talking to your sheriff. Seems ID SOFTWARE thought it would be funny to make the race 1.28 on this new difficulty when it was 1.40 on fucking Nightmare as it was.

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently you can just win another race. But just the fact that they made one of the two races literally impossible is absolutely infuriating, and I hope that whoever's idea it was gets castrated.

True, you do have to download the DLC, but that has nothing to do with whether or not the achievements are online or not lol.

Here's me beating the game on Ultra Nightmare for your viewing pleasure. This new difficulty makes the original Nightmare look like nothing. I had about 50 bandages before I entered Capital Prime, along with 10 other Rocket Launcher shots. You have to make absolutely everything count. Good luck to everyone else!

Really? Because I just beat it yesterday and struggled a lot less than I did on original Nightmare. Maybe it's because I knew what it was already like? Plus I had plenty of Pop Rockets, Fatboys, and HE Rockets to last 'till the endgame. Not to mention constantly having 99 Bandages and the ability to make at least 30 Sentry Bots. That may have had something to do with it.

I just arrived to Wellsprings, it wasn't extremely harder than nightmare so far except the refinery dlc mission (I'm doin' everything in one go on UN incl. the dlc missions and that one was a bit of pain without any armor, gadgets etc.) Now I plan to go for money, pls recommend the best and fastest way to farm. As I heard the blossom flower glitch has been patched, I'm afraid pickin'up the quest, makin' a backup save before getting the flower then go offline, removing the patches and try to use the glitch won't work, possibly it will make the save file corrupted or unloadable bcs of that initializing problem. Did u try that? Or playin' the 2 new minigames could be a better solution?

First of all, I did not do the DLC on Ultra Nightmare. I skipped that and just progressesd to finish the main game.

Best way for money really is to collect everything and sell it all. Make sure to get the hidden Easter egg items (Wolf Goblet, Vault Boy Bobblehead, etc.) and sell them too. Later in the game you can still do the Viper rocket money exploit. Not really a glitch since it's built in to buy the rockets cheaper from Stu and sell them for more to Jani. Doubt they will patch that.

Don't bother going offline with the DLC because you must be online to access it, which is really dumb but whatever.

Stock up on Fatboys (two shot kill to any normal enemy with helmets), Bandages, HE rockets for heavies, and sentry bots. Don't try to upgrade your vehicle either since the races are impossible to beat on Nightmare and up. Just get enough to get by, buy a couple armor restores if need be. The only hard part with a vehicle is getting inside Capital Prime alive.

The end of the game is a joke, just spam bandages, BFG rounds, sentry bots, basically everything you've got. This game gets easier, not harder. Pretty awesome when a shooter gets so much easier.

Thanks for all the tips and infos. First I started the dlc missions on easy as well, but after I experienced that they constantly stop for a while and require some story progression I decided to do everything on UN, after arriving to Wellspring I could stock up on goodies w/o any too long grinding, with the video poker in Jackpots betting 50 bucks all the time the maximum 10k amount of money can be won in a relatively short amount of time. Also I hope the ammo buying/selling trick in Subway town will work.

I will pass the races for sure, I never played any racing games so I'm a really bad and noob driver, btw the first race in the race menu right below the trial is absolutely easy and doable over 10 times, after that the guy stops givin' more certificates. But it's enough for the necessary upgrades.

The only part of the game I'm afraid of is Dead city, I hated that one on Nightmare, probably will shout and get some rage on UN as well...:)

i just did the first run of dead city and it was easy as pie. but also i didnt know you could redo races for the same certificates once completed. thatll help me get the rest of the stuff i need for sure. the trials are cake too after you upgrade your engine and boost once. so those are another free 15 certificates

It says that you must complete the Campaign on Ultra Nightmare. So, technically, you can skips everything that isn't story-related. A few members were discussing, though, about stacking up plenty of cash for certain parts in the game (like the end). Other than that, skipping everything is...recommended.
