Justicezero
My grandfather recently told me I play video games too much, out of a normal week (Monday-Friday, weekends don't count) I probably play at most 10-15 hours. (The most i'll spend on a weekday is about 3 hours) I really don't think this is a lot of time being spent on video games, but i could be wrong...What do you think is an acceptable number of hours during the course of a week? How long do you play? What are your obligations during the course of a week? (I work 30 hours + full time student) Thanks PS - During the weekends my girlfriend comes over so I'm lucky if i get 4 hours over the course of the weekend. RickOfPompey
Depends on whether it affects your life as to whether you spend too much time gaming. If you for example, phone work/school etc pretending to be ill, just so you can carry on playing, then thats bad, if you get up and have to have a game before you leave for school/work etc, then yeah, maybe you do spend too much time playing, and you have a problem. I spend around 1-2 hours a night, playing, not much but I got a wife and 2 kids to spend time with. At weekends, I'll be on for as long as I can, without the kids annoying me. fatces
theres no such thing as too much time spend with videogames i usually play five hours a day, and increases on weekends, of course this doesn't interfere with my girlfriend and friends time, so as long as it don't mess with your normal life its all good
Rammbone
I think, there's no such thing as "too much" time playing video games. It's all a matter of personal preferance.
M7.Ninja
There's no specific answer to your question. If you've finished everything you needed to do for your studies/work, watched your health and fulfilled all your social obligations, then by all means play for as long as you want. Just don't lose any sleep or skip an important part of your life away from your games just to play. Do that, and you shouldn't be playing for a single hour. Justicezero
Yeah i guess I didn't think about that aspect. "There is no too much" I'm trying to think of a level of playing hours that some would find average...some would find over average and below average. For example, if someone is playing 20-25 hours (monday-friday) I would think that's way over average. That's kind of what I'm trying to form. DFILL450
Old people are always going to tell you that you spend too much time with electronics. They didn't grow up with it, so they're obviously going to think that its a waste of time. The only time that my grandma doesnt think that videogames are a waste of time, is when im playing guitar hero. Because she thinks its teaching me how to play guitar lol. Steve IOW
hmm well i play about 5-6 hours a day but i don't think this is too much, still play sports mainly football (soccer) go to school and socialise, but people i know still say i play too much. One of my friends left school and is currently jobless and plays 14 hours a day 9.00 AM- 11.00PM his mum even had to get a second job to be able to afford to keep him in the house, i guess that's what i'd call too much
Mr Arrow
If I have to support your lazy ass with welfare or hear you complain that minimum wage is not fair because you spent your formative years wasted on video games then you've spent too much time playing. Ironicly, it also too late.

botafogo007
My grandfather recently told me I play video games too much I think that's partially a generational thing. My grandparents used to chide me for spending so much time on computers in the mid 80's when they were still a novelty and not the necessity they are now. One of the ironies of people who complain about "too much" time spent gaming is that many of those people waste just as much time doing other things and yet, for some reason, they think that's okay. People can watch 4 hours a night of TV and see nothing wrong with it and yet complain if someone spends that much time gaming. I agree with those who said it becomes too much when you let it interfere with your personal life. I play as much as I can while my wife and kids are asleep, but don't play while they're awake unless it's something we can all play together. For me, "too much" would be if I started ignoring them regularly to play when I should be spending time with them instead. The amount I play now would have been way too much while I was in college. I guess what I'm saying is the actual number of hours doesn't matter but rather if you can find a balance between gaming and the other things in your life. Shinobi273
I will play 6-9 hours throughout the work week, and up to 10 hours on weekends (as little as not at all, depending on what I have going on). I have a pretty solid relationship w/ my GF and a full time job 40 hours a week + commute. I also am in a bowling league that meets once a week, during the week. As for how much is too much, everyone else is pretty much right on as far as any amount being too much. You can't look at the amount of time you are spending, you need to think about what you aren't doing when you play video games. For some people, unfortunately they can't play games at all because of thier other commitments, and other people are full time student communications majors that can play all day long. Not that communications is not a respectable major or degree, it has a connotation of being more slacker than average. Business at my college was the slacker major with communications in second place.
Justicezero
For example, here's how my weekly time is allotted. Wreckon Dracgon
I will now be your grandfather.... Seven hours of sleep a night... you lazy good for nothing whippersnapper. In my day we were lucky if we had beds to sleep in, so sleeping for seven hours wasn't an option. Plus we had to get up at the crack of dawn to feed the chickens and cows, and walk 12 miles to school. You're lazy boy... lazy just like your dad... EDIT: with daylight savings you could have got a extra hour so 2 hours for sleeping/living/left the house

Justicezero
How can you play "too much" video games. As long as you can function properly in your daily life you aren't playing to many video games. Yeah, I think that's the conclusion we've all come to. From everyones responses I've gathered that: 1. Senior Citizens will not understand technology as anything more then "a waste of time". 2. You cannot spend "Too much" time playing video games as long as you are not neglecting your priorities.
