*WARNING* This game currently has 2 unobtainable achievement related to saving 15 citizens and completing all challenges. The developer Gameloft is aware of the issue and has indicated a patch is in the works. Be warned though, Gameloft is notorious for releasing games with broken achievements and never fixing them on the Windows Phone platform, even after promising patches.

Introduction

The Amazing Spider-Man is an open-world adventure game that loosely follows the storyline of the movie by the same name. You fill the shoes of Peter Parker, and are tasked with stopping The Lizard from taking over New York City. You have complete control to zip, swing, and crawl across the entire open-world city. The story missions are fairly linear, but the game does offer random smaller missions where you stop petty crimes around the expansive map. These add some variety and longevity to the game, and also give you the chance to earn additional XP to level up Spider-Man. It must also be noted that the game tends to perform rather poorly on Windows Phone 8, most notably the very low frame rate. It seems to behave this way randomly. There is not one phone model in particular that works better or worse. It also sometimes can perform okay and other times terrible. These issues make the game at times unplayable. It is suggested you give the trial a go first, even though smooth performance in the trial will not necessarily represent your experience to come throughout the lengthy game. For a more in-depth review of the game from WPCentral, click HERE. Currently the game is listed at $6.99 in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Play through the story

Play through the game completing the story missions. There are 26 story missions in total. Along the way you should complete random missions as well, as many of the miscellaneous achievements are tied to them. You should focus on completing the ever-present 3 active challenges too, as there is an achievement related to those (which is currently unobtainable so dont worry about it).

Step 2: Mop-up

After completing the story, you may still have a few miscellaneous achievements to earn. You will likely also still need to complete a bunch of challenges (again this is glitched, so dont worry about challenges too much for now). Take this time to roam the world freely and do so.

Conclusion

The Amazing Spider-Man is a fun open-world adventure game. Without a doubt if the performance was better it would be more enjoyable to play. The achievements almost all can be unlocked while you complete the story, and there really is not much grinding either.

GUIDE

STORY-RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS (3 for 25 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 3 achievements are obtained by completing the story missions and are unmissable.

See "Spider Supreme."

Get your powers back (Mission 18)

See "Spider Supreme."

Defeat the Lizard (Mission 26)

These achievements will be awarded as you progress through the story of them game. Whenever complete a story mission, another mission will become available right away. There are 26 in all, becoming more difficult as you progress. Because of this increase in difficulty, it is suggested along the way you take some time to complete the random side missions to earn extra XP. This will allow you to upgrade Spider-Man even more, making the game a bit easier. These achievements will unlock as soon as you complete the specified mission.

FINAL BOSS: The final boss in the game can be quite challenging to beat if you do not know what to do, and even then, it will likely take you a couple tries. From the start of the battle, keep meleeing the boss and avoiding his attacks. Once you get his health down to around 40%, he will begin to go around to the four corners of the battle field (and stop attacking you) to release lizard gas to heal himself, which will also kill you quickly if you stay on the ground. As soon as he stops attacking you and starts doing this, zip up to one of the cranes above where you are safe from the gas. From this location above, you will need to lock onto the boss (will happen automatically if you are close enough) and then push the buttons on screen to tie him up. Tie him up as quickly as possible as this will prevent him from healing too much. Once he is tied up, zip around on the cranes above, using your web to close all of the gas vents he just opened (on-screen button). The red ones are open and the whitish-blue ones are closed. Once all the gas vents are close, it is safe to return to the ground. You will see a spot on the middle of the battlefield lit-up next to the giant green tank. Head over there and complete the button sequence to pull the tank a tad crooked. Do this quickly before the boss breaks loose of his tie-up. Once the boss gets loose, repeat this battle sequence about three times. The boss may also begin to do an un-dodgeable charge attack. In this case, he will stop attacking you and back away from you to get a running start. The only way to avoid these attacks is to quickly zip-up to the cranes. Each time you will get his health down lower and lower before he starts to try to heal himself, and eventually you can actually kill him. I took him down with a level 45 character, but it is not that difficult to do with lower level characters. It is good to have the perk that allows you to gain health while attacking enemies maxed out, as well as the entire melee tree, and the regenerating health, overall health, and armor too. Ranged attacks are useless in this fight.

MISCELLANEOUS ACHIEVEMENTS (17 for 175 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 17 achievements are obtained by completing miscellaneous tasks or cumulative requirements and can be earned at any point during the story missions or afterwards.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UPmtwhM=.jpg Parkour Pro - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Jump over 20 obstacles while running.

Objects can be anything small that when you come across them while sprinting your character will automatically hurdle it (cars, fences, etc.). You need to make sure you character is SPRINTING. This is done by holding the left virtual stick far from center for a second or two until you reach max speed (there will be white blurs on the screen when you are sprinting). Then you just need to run into 20 obstacles. Spider-Man will jump over automatically. The easiest place I found to get jump over obstacles rapidly is in Central Park. There is a small, cement barricade around the entire park. Get to full-speed and just keep going in a large circle back-and-forth across the fence, making sure to not stop running.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UPuMy6Y=.jpg Wall Crawler - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Wall climb a total of 3 kilometers.

Spider-Man can essentially wall climb any vertical surface in the game. Just walk up to the base of a wall and push the virtual stick towards it. You can also stick to a wall while in mid-air using the same technique. You need to wall climb for a total of 3km. This will come naturally while progressing through the game, but to get this out of the way early, just find a very tall building and keep wall climbing up and down until the achievement unlock (all motion counts, go sideways if you like).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UPpsMzU=.jpg Super Slinger - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Web-sling a total of 5 kilometers.

Web-slinging is when Spider-Man swings from the webs that come down from the sky. Activate this by hitting the jump button and then hitting it again when in mid-air, using the left virtual stick to control the swings. You just need to web-swing a total of 5km. This will most certainly unlock without trying, as web-slinging should be used often, as it will be your fastest means of transportation.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UP-O2Mw=.jpg Take Your Medicine - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Use 5 tonics.

Tonics must be purchased and used from within the in-game Shop, which can be found in the Pause Menu. The most useful tonics will be the health ones, the cheapest of which can be purchased for 300 spiders each. This achievement will cost at least 1500 spiders. Once you purchase a tonic, click the same icon again to use it. You can purchase and use more than one tonic at a time. Do not worry about this too much. Tonics will become useful as you progress through the game to get you out of trouble in tricky missions.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UP4uIF8=.jpg Shoot to Thrill - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Shoot 30 web projectiles.

Web projectiles are the ranged attack in the game. You have unlimited ranged web ammo, but unless you upgrade them, they will be useless. Once you enter combat, make sure you are far away from your enemies. Then spam the web projectile button (slightly above and to the right of the melee button). Fire 30 total projectiles in the game to unlock this achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/+D34cg==.jpg Bring the Pain - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat 20 enemies.

Simple, you need to kill 20 enemies total. This will likely be one of your first achievements. Just spam the melee button to get kills and use the counter-attack button (blue with "!" on it) to avoid getting hit.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/+d0A4Q==.jpg Untouchable - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Avoid 10 attacks.

This achievement only requires that you successfully use the blue dodge button (has "!" on it) to avoid attacks or counter-attack. When an enemy is about to attack you, the button will be flashing. As soon as you see that, hit the button. If successful, your character will either just dodge the attack, or make a counter-attack, and blue letters saying "GOOD" will come on screen. Do this 10 times total and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-H-rGA==.jpg Say Cheese - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Take 5 photos.

Photos are integrated into the game in a few ways, but all of them revolve around you being able to rotate and zoom the camera to take a photograph of Spider-Man. Story missions sometimes involve taking photos. The race mini game allows you to take a photo at the finish line, too. There are also photo side missions which are initiated at floating rainbow-colored circles. Once you have taken your 5th photo, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-Z8Tiw==.jpg The New Hero - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Reach Level 5.

Leveling in the game is done through accumulating XP, which is earned by completing missions and challenges, as well as killing enemies. Reaching Level 5 is a small task, and may even be your first achievement. Just keep completing missions and killing enemies.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-JkOMA==.jpg Arachnophobia - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Collect 1500 spiders.

Spiders are the form of currency in the game. They are awarded for completing story missions and side missions. Spiders can also be collected from around the expansive map as well, by picking up spider-shaped collectibles. You need to earn and/or collect a total of 1500 spiders. This is quite easy and will come early in the game. Just keep completing missions and maybe go a little out of your way to gather a spider collectible if you see one.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-7ZRnA==.jpg Skills to pay the bills - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Learn 20 skills.

Skills are learned by purchasing them using your upgrade points. Upgrade points are earned by leveling up, and leveling up is done by accumulating XP. XP can be earned by completing challenges or missions (both story and side missions), or by killing enemies. You need to purchase a total of 20 skills from the skill tree menu. This menu can be revealed by clicking on the image of Spider-Man in the top left corner of the screen while in-game. Two small red buttons will be revealed. Click the one on the right. There are 5 skill trees to work through: Combat, Strength and Speed, Web Shooting, Body, and Bonuses. Web shooting and Combat are essentially useless, so do not waste too many points in those trees. Depending on exactly which skills you choose (their cost varies), you should earn enough upgrade points to unlock this achievement around Level 20.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-ZdYKQ==.jpg Shockwave - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeat 15 enemies with the Super Attack.

The Super Attack is one where you will automatically attack any enemies within a certain radius of you all at once. To activate it, hold down the melee button while in a battle. Spider-Man repeatedly hits anyone that is close and then pushes them to the ground. This attack has a small cool-down period (maybe 5 seconds?) before it can be used again. Your Super Attack must actually deal the finishing blow for the kill to count. The Super Attack tends to be fairly weak against most enemies, so you usually need hit them a few times to get their health down before attempting this. Alternatively, after using the attack you can just stand there and dodge attacks until the Super Attack is ready to use again (there is no noticeable way to tell, just keep trying to activate until it does). Once you defeat 15 total enemies with the Super Attack, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/-Hegug==.jpg The Golden Age - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Earn the Gold rank in all random events.

Random events are the small side missions located around the city that show up as "?" on your mini map. You need to receive one Gold rank on each of the random event types. I am not actually sure of the requirements that must be met to get Gold for each event. It seems that the rank you earn depends on how quickly you respond to the event from when it pops-up on the Breaking News bar, but also on how efficiently you complete the challenge (speed / if you take damage).

The only way you can tell what rank you earned is by the statement that comes up when your complete the mission in the top right corner of the screen. If it says "Great Work" in a yellow-gold color, you got Gold! If it says "Good Work" in a grey color, you got Silver. If it says "Not Bad" in a brownish color, you got Bronze. The random event types are as follows:

  • Save the Citizen- You come upon a person laying on the ground that has been in a car crash. You must take them to the nearest hospital quickly with a time limit.
  • Cops vs. Baddies - You come upon a battle between the cops and some bad guys. Help the police kill all the bad guys to complete the mission.
  • Disarm the bombs - 3 bombs will appear in separate locations across the map (in the same general area). Disarm all three bombs as fast as you can. Some of the bombs are occasionally guarded by one enemy. Completed when you disarm the third bomb.
  • Photo op - You come upon a rainbow-colored floating circle. Enter it to freeze time for you to capture an image of Spider-Man. A reward of 50 spiders is for Gold rank, but it also shows the text in the top right corner as soon as your reward screen disappears.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/+dVLQw==.jpg Hometown Legend - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Save 15 citizens.

*UNOBTAINABLE* This achievement is currently glitched.

Citizens can only be saved through the random side missions where you carry them from a car crash to the hospital within a time limit (they are called "Save the Citizen"). The time limits are more than generous. Just use your web sling and you will have little problem. These side mission seems to be the rarest of them all. Just keep looking and eventually you will get 15 total. You can also pay attention to the Breaking News bar that will pop up and the scrolling text across the screen. Sometimes it will mention a car crash, in which would should check your map from the Pause Menu for the car crash icon and head there.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/+DWz0A==.jpg Bomb Squad - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Dismantle 10 bombs.

Bombs show up a few times in the main story missions, but they are most prevalent in random side missions (only once you get far enough into the main storyline do they start showing up...after around Mission 15). To dismantle a bomb, head to the random event area, locate the tiny little bomb on the ground (looks like a pill), get close to it and hit the bomb icon. Finally, make the simple gesture to disarm the bomb. Do this 10 times total to unlock this achievement. If you look at the map from the Pause Menu, you can tell which random events are bombs by their icons.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/+hS6ZQ==.jpg Hobby Hunter - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Acquire 20 of each collectible.

Collectibles come in four types and only appear as part of the challenges. They are Lizard Scales, Venom Samples, Pumpkins, and Oscorp Prototypes. When you get a challenge that asks you to find a given amount of one of these collectibles, bring up the map from the Pause Menu. The location of the collectibles will be shown as a bunch of small red dots. Head there and collect as many as you need. There will usually be way more than the challenge asks you to find, but they will disappear as soon as you collect as many as you are required to. Because of this, you will have to progress through the challenges far enough that it actually asks you to collect a cumulative total of 20 of each collectible. Collectible challenges only appear on the bottom challenge (of the 3 you can have active at any one time), so when attempting this achievement focus on clearing the bottom challenges to unlock the subsequent ones.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2624/UPhNOoA=.jpg King of New York - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Finish all challenges.

*UNOBTAINABLE* This achievement is currently glitched. The challenges just go on and on and never seem to end. Some players have spent 15 hours or more solely completing challenge after challenge and have not unlocked the achievement as they never end.

Once you progress far enough into the game, challenges will become available. 3 challenges will always be active at a time, each of a different type. When you complete a challenge of a given type, you are awarded XP and another challenge of the same type becomes active. The challenges get progressively more time consuming. None of them are particularly difficult at all, but you should pay attention to them and try to complete then as you play through the game. It may be better to cut down on your grind time later to just take some time here and there to grind challenges. This will also allow you to get more XP and more upgrades for Spider-Man. The challenges can be toggled onto your screen by tapping the small red button under the mini-map. The challenges by type and some strategies are given below.

TOP CHALLENGES: Physical

  • Sprint a given total distance: Just sprint around town.
  • Sprint a given time without stopping: Make sure you don't run into any walls and you should be fine. A good place is around the trails in Central Park.
  • Web-sling a given total distance: Just get to a high open spot in the sky and web-sling in one spot (i.e. hold down the web sling button and spin in circles).
  • Web-sling a given time without stopping or hitting anything: Same as above.
  • Reach a given height: In some cases you can web slight to the height, in others you will need to wall climb a very tall building.
  • Wall climb a given total distance: Just climb up and down the face of a very tall building.
  • Leap over a given number of obstacles while sprinting: Head to Central Park. You must be sprinting. Run a circle over and over the small barrier that surrounds the park.
  • Jump a given number of times: Just stand still and jump up and down while stationary.
  • Web-zip a given number of times: Find two street lights that are close together and web-zip back-and-forth.

MIDDLE CHALLENGES: Combat

  • Kill a given number of X enemies: Just run around town. You will stumble into a lot of random enemies. Also the cops battling random events can be good places to find enemies.
  • Kill a given number of enemies with counter-attacks: Make sure you melee the enemy you want to kill a few times as counter-attacks are fairly week. Then just stand next to him and wait for the blue button to flash and tap it. May take a few counter-attacks to kill the enemy, even if they have low health.
  • Kill a given number of enemies with ranged attacks: Stand farther away from the enemy and hit the range attack button. You may also want to weaken them first with melee attacks. Ranged attack must inflict final blow.
  • Counter-attack a given number of times. Just go into battle without attacking and solely using the blue button to counter until you reach the goal.

BOTTOM CHALLENGES: Random Events and Collectibles

  • Earn a given amount of Silver ranks on X random missions: Silver ranks are easy to earn. Just kill the enemies or complete the objective as fast as possible.
  • Complete a given number of X random missions: Use the map in the Pause Menu to help better locate the specific random event you need based on their icons.
  • Collect a given number of X collectibles: Open your map from the Pause Menu and look for little red dots. Those are the collectibles. Head to that location and collect the required amount.
  • Drink a given number of tonics.

Nice guide! My estimate of 3 was pretty close :) Looking forward to "almost" completing this game. And to the patch that fixes everything inc. lag and achievement (I wish).

3/10 you mean for difficulty. Yeah I was torn between 3 and 4. Not sure. The lag makes some things tough. Otherwise easy as pie. Did you have any tips for golden age?

I am still doubtful of the update. Gameloft has broken the same promises before on WP7. Claiming a patch is in the works , then nothing ever comes...

A update was just released The only confirmed thing it does is like it works on lower end devices not sure if they patched the frame rate or anything

Thanks I got the update. Tested the broken achievement and it didnt unlock. Guess that was not fixed. Framerate still seems bad to me. Maybe a tad better, but I dont think so.

Hey I had a question for the glitched achievement as its somewhat glitched on the dark knight but the work around is you must save people in the story missions and it has to be in the same story mission for it to register as over 10, so no characters in the open world count is there any story mission that has save the civilian that you can replay a few times to see if it works?

Yes I am awre of the batman workaround, but I dont think that will work in Spiderman. You cannot replay story missions like you can in Batman. At least I cant figure out how to. No one has found anything yet, so I am guessing this will go unpatched forever like all other gameloft games.

Just to add to this, there are supposed to be building fires in the game according to the notifications possible on this. There aren't so who knows if that's related.

We're only running the original version released on android that isn't patched t the moment so who knows.

If you look at your map there is a flashback option that lets you replay story missions. Not sure when this becomes available but its probably once you complete the game. I haven't played the dark knight though so I don't know if the replays work in the same way as this game, i want to try the save the citizen main mission to see if it unlocks the achievement, any idea what that mission is called?
