Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is the upcoming fourth installment to the Terminator film series, scheduled to be released on May 22, 2009.[1] It is written by David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato, and Michael Ferris, directed by Joseph "McG" McGinty Nichol,[2] and stars Christian Bale as John Connor.[3] On February 12, 2008, Sam Worthington was announced as being cast to play Marcus; he was personally recommended to McG by Terminator creator James Cameron.[4] Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, and Claire Danes will not be returning.[5][6] Shooting of the film is expected to start on May 5, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.[7]

The plot and storyline of the film takes place after the events of T3 around 2019 and focuses mainly on the war between humanity and Skynet in the post-apocalyptic world.[8] John Connor will continue to be the central character along with a new character named Marcus, who will have "equal presence."[9] However, other sources say that the film will instead focus on Marcus.[10] James Middleton, the associate producer of the film, stated that "It's really about the birth of a new hero,"[11] and McG said that it will also be about the development of the Arnold model T-800.[8]

On May 9, 2007, it was announced that rights to the Terminator series had passed hands from producers Andrew G. Vajna and Mario Kassar to the Halcyon Company, a privately funded company formed by entrepreneurs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson. In the Variety article detailing the purchase, it states the fourth film will focus on a 30-year old John Connor in what the producers hope will be a new trilogy. Series creator James Cameron is currently not involved with the project;[12] however, he did encourage McG on the project.[8] Variety also mentioned that Warner Bros. has McG prepping the film.[13]

On July 19, 2007, it was revealed that the Terminator 4 project is currently in legal limbo due to a lawsuit between MGM and Halcyon subsidiary T Asset. According to the article, MGM has an exclusive window of 30 days to negotiate for distribution of the Terminator films. When negotiating for Terminator 4, Halcyon rejected their initial proposal, and MGM suspended negotiations. After the 30 days were over, MGM claimed that the period during which negotiations were suspended did not count and their exclusive period is still open. Halcyon is now asking a court for an injunction allowing them to approach other distributors.

A television series titled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is currently airing on the FOX network, with Lena Headey as Sarah Connor and Thomas Dekker as John Connor. The series, created by Josh Friedman, will center on Sarah and John after Terminator 2 as they try to "live under the radar" after the explosion at Cyberdyne. Summer Glau plays a female terminator protecting the Connors, with at least one more terminator villain. Executive producer James Middleton confirmed in Variety that the series will contain a link to Terminator 4.

I'm not even going to watch it without Arnie. Its going to be terrible, most likely.

Well, Terminator 3 has Arnie in it and he was pretty much in it as a gimmick. They made fun of him and his acting was way below par. I thought he brought an exceptional persona to the role of the ultimate killing machine in his role in the first film. In Judgement Day he was good again, but for different reasons to the first film.

In Rise of the Machines, he just seemed to be there as a joke. The role that he played was badly written (as was the film as a whole imo) and I think that to a point, it humiliated him.

The point that I'm trying to make is that if it does have him in it, it won't necessarily be a good film...
