Introduction:

Dogfight 1942 is a World War II flight simulator that takes you from the Pacific, to Russia, and everywhere in between to accomplish of various types. Experience a number of various battles, some major, and some minor, that occurred throughout the second World War, from the skies above the battlefield. In order to accomplish your missions you will have a large selection of planes and a choice selection of rockets, bombs, and torpedoes to help annihilate your opponent and fight to save the world from fascists.

Playthrough (Base Game):

I recommend playing through on Hard Mode to help with V for Victory, which requires you to complete the entire campaign on Hard difficulty. During this time you should also work toward scoring enough points in each mission to 5-Star them, and also work on the pins and badges you need in each mission for the War Hero achievement. Similar 5-Star and medal achievements also appear in the DLCs. Some of the achievements will come naturally as your progress through the story, such as The Onslaught and The Road to Victory for completing Act I and Act II respectively. Other achievements require to perform certain tasks during a particular mission, such as A Private Party, God Save the King, and Divine Thunder. Also, you will want to work toward taking out 6 planes in under a minute for Ace of the Skies, Trigger Happy for simply launching 100 rockets in one mission, A Confirmed Kill for using a rocket to kill a fighter, and Moving Target by blowing up a plane with a bomb as it is taking off.

Clean-up and Notes on DLC:

If you do not have the DLC, now is the time to finish up Air Superiority, 300 fighter kills, although DLC users can continue into the DLC and unlock it there. You can also take this time to do Two Heads are Better Than One by doing a co-op mission, and Test Pilot by finishing a mission in simulation mode. All non-specific achievements, such as these, can be completed in the DLC or the standard campaign and the same goes for the non-specific DLC achievements( such as 300% Accuracy).

Russia under Siege DLC:

No difficulty requirements are necessary for this one, however you can play on Hard if it pleases you. You still need to 5-Star every mission and get all pins/badges for Famous Ace, and Eastern Winds will unlock in the process once you finish all of the DLC missions in singleplayer. Two level-specific achievements also appear: All Aboard... for stopping the train in the All Aboard mission before it reaches the station, and Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat, which as far as I can tell is unmissable as you need to shoot down the enemy Ace in both of the missions he appears anyway.

Fire Over Africa DLC:

The Sands of Africa will unlock once you finish this few missions in single player, and I'm Not a Rookie will unlock once you 5-Star everything and get all the medals. 300% Accuracy and Flying Hunter require you to take out 3 ground enemies with one bomb and sinking 5 ships in under a minute; both of which can be done in the regular game or any of the DLCs.

Score and Medal Requirements:

If you need help with any of the 5 star score or medals/pins/badges, check out the full guide here. The guide is also for Hard, if you need tips for that.

Conclusion:

Overall Dogfight 1942 is a relatively straight forward simulator that makes life easier for players by making some achievements attainable in more than just the DLC, and also removing the Hard mode requirement needed in the standard game which may be offputting for some players.

Finish all missions on Hard difficulty (Act I and II).

Finish all missions on Hard difficulty. Use :dright:/:dleft: to toggle the difficulty to Hard in the mission menu. You can change the difficulty to and from Hard whenever you want, you just need to be sure you have finished all missions on Hard at some point. One way to check is to enter a mission menu and change the difficulty to Hard, then back out to look at the list of missions. If each mission has at least 1 star, that means you beat it on Hard. You can do 5-star most missions and do all medals/badges/pins for each mission on Hard as well, but you can always clean those up on a different difficulty later.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-xiMO0=.jpgAir Superiority - 25:gsicon:

Shoot down 300 fighters in Campaign mode

This is cumulative over the campaign and all DLC, although some players claim they kills only count if you finish a mission. Either way, you will get this before finishing the DLCs, and possibly even before finishing the campaign.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-2Kg9w=.jpgA Private Party - 25:gsicon:

Shoot down all V-1 rockets headed for London (single player)

You will be able to get this on the New Kind of Weapon mission. Use Ace Mode (:ltbut:), set your wingmen to fire at will (:ddown:) and use the Gloster Meteor Mk. I to make this much easier. You may also want to do it on Easy as there will be less rockets to shoot down.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-nz4gg=.jpgGod Save the King - 15:gsicon:

Fly under every bridge in London (single player)

You'll be able to get this in the For King and Country mission, just start the mission off by following the river and flying under each bridge. There are 7 bridges total.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-gTGps=.jpgDivine Thunder - 25:gsicon:

Defend all battleships at Iwo Jima (single player)

This will unlock after completing the mission "The Last Battleship" without having your escort Battleships sustain enough damage to sink. Initially make sure you quickly destroy the kamikaze boats as they do massive damage to the battleships. At the end of the mission you'll encounter a large group of battleships, cruisers, and the Yamato. To end the mission you can quickly destroy the Yamato by yourself, or clear out the escort ships so your Battleships can help you take out the Yamato. Obviously this is much easier to do on Easy or Normal difficulty, especially since the addition of an Ace near the end of a level can make destroying the Yamato solo rather annoying.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-xqe08=.jpgAce of the Skies - 15:gsicon:

Shoot down 6 planes in under a minute

While you can get this with some effort on just about every mission, you can get this rather easily on For King and Country as there are tons and tons of planes flying over London in that mission. Be sure to continuously press :rbbut: to launch rockets into large groups to help you get your kills.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-vpmQM=.jpgMoving Target - 25:gsicon:

Drop a bomb on a plane during takeoff

You will most likely get this during the Payback Time mission (among many others). Simply switch to your bombs by pressing :ybut:, wait until the circle is just in front of a plane as it is taking off and release both bombs.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-xRCfE=.jpgA Confirmed Kill - 15:gsicon:

Shoot down an enemy fighter with a rocket

By fighter this does, in fact, mean ONLY the fighter which would be the planes that aren't flying straight lines and dropping bombs (bombers), making this achievement a bit more difficult to attain. You will first get rockets in mission 2, First Encounters at Midway, and they can be fired by pressing :rbbut:. They are direct fire, meaning they fire straight ahead and do not lock on to any targets, so your best bet is to lead your target well enough that the slow moving rocket will hit them and they'll blow up. If you can manage to get right behind an enemy, that's your best bet, but of course you can always fall back on the usually spray and pray and just fly through every level launching rockets nonstop (they're infinite, which will also get you the Trigger Happy achievement.

One way to get this a bit easier is to fly straight toward an enemy, as they LOVE to play chicken with you, giving you plenty of time to launch a few volleys of rockets at them, before veering off.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-5wAEQ=.jpgTrigger Happy - 15:gsicon:

Launch more than 100 rockets in a single mission

You can first get this in the second mission - First Encounters at Midway - by using :rbbut: to launch rockets as soon as they are reloaded. You will have infinite rockets, so don't worry about running out, and they reload quite quickly so this should only take a couple minutes of firing. They don't need to hit anything at all, so don't worry about aiming either, just fire away!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-+Q+Nc=.jpgTwo Heads are Better Than One - 15:gsicon:

Play a co-op mission

Plug in a second controller and head to the main menu, select campaign and then local co-op. You can play this alone, though you may want to land the second controller so they don't crash during the mission.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-n7qao=.jpgTest Pilot - 25:gsicon:

Finish a single mission in Simulation mode (other than Baptism of fire)

From the main menu of the game, look under controls and set it to Simulation mode (as opposed to Arcade). After that, enter your favorite mission, I would recommend on Easy, and then play through with the new control scheme. Any of the many bombing missions in this game are probably the easiest option as you usually don't need to do much air-to-air combat, which is the hardest part on simulation (at least for me).

DLC: Russia Under Siege

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-vh0qE=.jpgEastern Winds - 15:gsicon:

Finish the Russian Campaign (single player)

Finish all Russia Under Siege DLC missions (unmissable):

Aftermath

All Aboard

A Night in the Reich

The Battle of Kursk

Bombs Over Berlin

Siege of Berlin

Rise of the Jetfighter

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-2799c=.jpgFamous Ace - 20:gsicon:

Earn all medals and the highest rank in all missions (Eastern Winds)

Check out my guide for all medals and max ranks here

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-vS670=.jpgAll aboard... - 5:gsicon:

Stop the train before it reaches the railway station (single player)

In the mission "All Aboard" you will encounter a huge armored train covered in tanks that are shooting at you. Along it's path will be a train station, and you must focus your rocket fire on the engine of the train to force it to use it's brakes before it reaches the railway station, which is NOT it's end point. I recommend just making a quick run through on Easy to knock this one out (if you aren't already on Easy).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-90UOg=.jpgBlood, Toil, Tears and Sweat - 10:gsicon:

Win all duels with enemy ace (Eastern Winds)

This appears to be unmissable as you will encounter the Ace twice over the duration of the DLC and you will need to shoot him down to complete the mission in both cases. Your last encounter with him will be in the last mission - The Conte di Cavour. One thing that may screw up the achievement, as it did for a similar pin/medal requirement, is if you shoot him down with a rocket it may not count as a kill.

DLC: Fire over Africa

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-oBKjI=.jpgThe Sands of Africa - 15:gsicon:

Finish the African campaign (single player)

Finish all of the Fires Over Africa DLC missions (unmissable):

The Rats of Tobruk

Naval Warfare

Desert Storm

Convoy Hunting

Showdown at El Alamein

The Conte di Cavour

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-kmPjw=.jpgI'm Not a Rookie - 20:gsicon:

Earn all medals and the highest rank in all missions (The Sands of Africa)

Check out my guide for all medals and max ranks here

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-jGxq8=.jpg300% Accuracy - 10:gsicon:

Destroy 3 enemy ground vehicles with one bomb

This can be obtained in either DLC, or the regular campaign. Personally, I got this going through the Eastern Winds mission "Siege of Berlin" while bombing the tanks for the medal on that mission. This does need to be a single bomb, not a double tap of :rbbut: and not a single rocket.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2371/5-5Lcvo=.jpgFlying Hunter - 5:gsicon:

Sink 5 ships in under a minute

You can get this on several main campaign and Fire over Africa DLC maps such as The Rats of Tobruk and Convoy Hunting. I recommend softening them up with some rocket volleys before using bombs as they are rather weak, and it allows you to better time their deaths.
