Single Player:

A large portion of your achievement hunting in this title will be conducted in single player, however you can also take it to multiplayer.

A total of 17 single player achievements make up the main bulk of the 200:gsicon: in this title. A large percentage of them will come naturally as you progress through the various stages, however some are mode specific such as "Challenge Master", "Dragon Slayer", and "Magic: The Puzzling".

More luck is required than skill.

Multiplayer:

Playing Magic with your friends is one of the best features in this series, and with it come a few achievements.

Only one of the games' twenty achievements require you to play multiplayer, and that is "Otherworldly Being".

"Two-Headed Giant" and "Last Mage Standing" can both be completed in the custom game tab using AI.

An achievement trading thread for the online component exists here.

Solved ten challenges

The Challenge Master achievement is unlocked by completing all ten of the challenges under the "Challenge" tab in single player.

While completing the challenges for this achievement, you will also unlock "Magic: The Puzzling", and "Praetor Slayer".

A full guide on each individual challenge can be found here, including the five methods for Say Your Praetors.

Defeated ten encounters

Encounters are mini-stages throughout the DoTP 2013 campaign. Encounters repeat the same exact card pattern each time, and are extremely easy to beat.

Each new "plane" has two encounters, and once you complete ten this achievement will unlock.

Defeated Nicol Bolas in the revenge campaign

After you beat the first single player campaign, Revenge mode unlocks.

You must play through all of the Revenge games, before finally reaching Nicol Bolas in the final round.

The achievement will unlock once you best him.

Won a duel when an opponent controlled no creatures

While this sounds difficult, it isn't.

Win a duel in any mode and simply kill all of your opponents creatures before winning.

This is done easiest with decks sharing Red or Black colors, as they contain many removal spells and spells that force your opponent to sacrifice creatures.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/5-0GVW4=.jpg Beast Within - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a duel controlling a creature with at least 10 power

Celestial Light, a deck centered around gaining extra life, has a card called "Ajani's Pridemate", that for every time you gain a point of life it gets +1/+1.

Using that method is the easiest way to unlock the achievement, however you can also just play any other deck and use enchantments, artifacts, or instants, to boost the creatures power over 10 by the time you win.

Won a duel controlling at least ten creatures

This achievement can be unlocked using Celestial Light, while also trying to unlock "Flawless" and "Beast Within".

Simply have at least ten creatures on the battlefield before taking your opponent to zero life and this will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/5-lERgQ=.jpg Savor the Moment - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a campaign duel with an opponent's library empty

Load the very first encounter available to you and use the "Dream Puppets" mill (forces opponents to put cards from their library into their graveyard) deck.

Encounter opponents only have 33 cards available in their library, and this makes milling them to zero incredibly easy.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/5-ikvpc=.jpg Flawless - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a campaign duel with 20 or more life

While trying to unlock "Beast Within" using Celestial Light, you can also unlock the Flawless achievement, too.

Using spells like Angel's Feather, Moment of Heroism, and Solemn Offering, you can easily boost your life total to 30 or more, and then you still have your creatures with Lifelink.

Simply win the duel and have more than your starting life total and this achievement will unlock.

Unlocked 30 cards for one deck

For each game you win, whether it be in single player or multiplayer, you unlock a card for the deck you used during that game.

An alternative method to unlock this achievement requires that you've played Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. If you have, you'll receive a token to unlock 30 cards in any deck. Use the token and you'll get the achievement.

If the above does not apply, simply win 30 games and this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/-Ly0LA==.jpg Jack of All Trades - 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Unlocked a card for each of ten different decks

Play and win ten different games with ten different decks in order to unlock this achievement.

As you only start with three decks in the beginning, you will need to beat seven stages of the campaign to unlock additional decks to unlock cards for.

Won a duel on Xbox LIVE

Simply play and win a game on Xbox LIVE in any mode and this achievement will unlock.

An Achievement Trading thread can be found here.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/-uKhfg==.jpg Maelstrom Wanderer - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a Planechase campaign duel

Planechase is perhaps the most time consuming mode in DoTP 2013.

Four people (AI, in this case) play at once and battle it out, and only one person can win.

Win one duel in the Planechase mode and this achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/-cW1cA==.jpg Two-Headed Giant - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a Two-Headed Giant duel

Two-Headed Giant is DoTP 2013's cooperative play mode, pitting two teams of two against one another.

This can be done with AI by simply navigating to the custom game tab, selecting Two-Headed Giant, and then choosing to use Remote Players, and inputting three other AI players.

It is also possible to connect a second Xbox 360 controller and unlock the achievement while playing with a second human on your team.

Win the duel and this achievement will unlock, and in the process it will also unlock "Last Mage Standing".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2305/-CVN4w==.jpg Last Mage Standing - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg

Won a 3-player, 4-player, or Two-Headed Giant duel

Cast a mythic rare card

Mythic rare cards (or spells) are the rarest in the game, and can be easily recognised by their bronze colored set symbol (the D13 under the card's art).

For example, Celestial Light, has two mythic rares; "Baneslayer Angel", and "Felidar Sovereign". Each deck has its own mythic rares.

The quickest deck to unlock mythic rares for is Talrand's flying "Crosswinds" deck. Complete four games and you will unlock your first mythic rare. Place that into your deck, play enough lands and then cast one of these in any game mode and the achievement will unlock.

A full list of mythic rare cards can be found here.

Defeated an encounter

The first encounter you will come across to complete this achievement is the second stage of the campaign, and is titled "Disturbing the Nest".

Complete the encounter, and this achievement will then unlock.

Entered the deck manager

From the main menu of the game, navigate to the Deck Manager tab, enter it and then select any deck.

Enter the Deck Manager option and this achievement will then unlock. You don't need to make any changes to the deck for it to do so, either.

Defeated Talrand in the campaign

Talrand is the first opponent you face in DoTP 2013's "campaign" mode.

He plays a Blue deck based around flying creatures, and packs quite a punch.

Beat him and this achievement will unlock.

Planechase is perhaps the most time consuming mode in DoTP 2013.

Four people (AI, in this case) play at once and battle it out, and only one person can win.

After you complete the regular campaign and the Revenge campaign, Planechase will then unlock.

Win one duel in the Planechase mode and this achievement will unlock.

This is not correct, i have not touched the revenge campaign and have planechase unlocked and the achievement.

I also agree 7/10 seems a bit steep

Removed the offending text. I forgot to edit that out (I realised the error and fixed it).

Also lowered the score. I only had it as 7/10 because of the time it would take to 200 it.

Why are you sure you can't get the achievements "Two-Headed Giant" and "Last Mage Standing" in singleplayer? I don't care if you go under the multiplayer menu, it's still against 3 AIs, so that's singleplayer.

Because it's still under "multiplayer".

It's a trivial thing, and I get what you're saying, but whether it's AI or humans it's a multiplayer (more than one player) achievement.

Won a campaign duel with an opponent's library empty

Use the mono-blue deck with the milling strategy. Choose an encounter, the first or the second ones are the best because you could play against a 30 cards deck. Try (it's very easy!) to put all opponent's cards in the opponent's graveyard. At the moment that he will draw a card (but the library is empty!!) you will win the match. :drunk

You can get two-headed giant and last mage standing in single player. I got both for winning a two-headed giant match with all AIs under the custom game menu (not online multiplayer).

Yeah, I clarified that above.

Multiplayer, whether with humans or AI, is still multiple players. I can't write single player or people will be looking in the single player menu.

I'll look at wording it a bit better, but I've no idea how. It's more to the reader to understand it contextually.

It is in the single player menu. You don't have to go into the multiplayer section, they can be unlocked by going under "custom game." There is only 1 achievement that requires entering the multiplayer menu and playing a game, and that is to win a match over xbox live.

By your logic the only "single player" achievements would be the 3 associated with the challenges and the one for entering the deck editor since there is AI in the campaign too.

if you previously played at magic 2012, the game gives you for free a key to unlock a complete deck. once you use the key the cheevo pop!

Edited, although milling is often looked at as "discarding" in the real life Magic community.

Thanks. :)

I'm not sure if you just don't like being corrected by someone who doesn't frequent the site much, but you're still wrong. There being AI team mates doesn't matter. The presence of AI doesn't make an achievement multiplayer.

+Online: 3 Achievements 30:gsicon:

This is wrong. There is only 1 achievement that requires you to be online. The one for winning a match over Xbox Live.

It is worth noting that some of the achievements that require multiple players can be completed using AI only, making them only require you as the sole human player. You still have to launch the games from the multiplayer tab, however.

Highlighted part is wrong. Seriously, boot up the game and see. Custom Game is NOT in the multiplayer menu, it is its own section. "Last Mage Standing" and "Two Headed Giant" can be unlocked through Custom Game using all AI opponents/allies. You don't have to be online or in the multiplayer tab.

Hey Kaotik, just so you know we all really appreciate your work on this achievement guide and I am super looking forward to the challenge guide written.

I'll try to explain what Davyd and others are saying because I totally understand what you're saying and they're saying and I think the most important parts are not actually being said.

For this site, "online" and "multiplayer" basically mean you need XboxGold to get these achievements. This is constant throughout this site and all the cheevo guides. So when people read roadmaps, when they see "online" achievements or "multiplayer" acheivements, they know that they need a Gold account to 100% the game. For the purposes of THIS game, I think there is only one truly "online" and "multiplayer" achievement. The others can be done alone (and by alone, i mean without a gold account account).

You of course will be playing against other non-human players but that isn't what "multiplayer" is by definition of this website and especially for its users and readers. Davyd and others are just trying to help you be consistent with other cheevo guides so they all read the same which is useful.

There are even some other games where you can get "multiplayer" achievements by plugging in two controllers and playing against yourself (Gears of War is a great example) and those achievements are no longer considered "online" or "multiplayer" even if the acheivement description and original purpose is to get you to play online.

Hope this clears it up as to what points people are trying to make. Thanks again for you great work and look forward to that written challenge guide! You're the best

Snip

Thanks mate - I understand a bit more clearly now. I'll amend it accordingly.

There being AI team mates doesn't matter. The presence of AI doesn't make an achievement multiplayer.

It has nothing to do with me having an issue with being corrected. I am a journalist by trade, I am used to my work being edited and critiqued.

With that in mind though, multiplayer can be defined as "a computer game designed for or involving several players", and I believe that AI are players, so it's still a multiplayer achievement.

As Black Barney was nice enough to point out, this has more to do with the community's contextual understanding of the word "multiplayer" (usually that means Xbox LIVE), and little to do with my usage. :)

Either way, I edited the post and I hope it clears up any future confusion. Thanks for the help, too.

For the Two Headed Giant achievement you could always just turn on a second controller (if you have one) and play both decks against the AI. I don't trust AI in games like this because they're usually pretty stupid, so me and my boyfriend did the achievement playing co-op locally.

Sure, I'll include that tip. Thanks.
