i know the host can do everything as normal.

but as the guest. can your progress in the story if you both start from the begining ?

Can the guest level up?

Can the guest unlock achievements based around story progress?

If the guest leaves and starts on his own can he continue from where he left of in the multiplayer as a guest?

Hey man,i dod't know the answers to those questions for sure, but be careful when you join random game and save when you leave. I needed 20 more survivors for the notebook after my first play through,i joined random guy to see have it is,when i left i saved the game on the same game end save, then i started new game from the same save and my notebook was almost empty.

In order of your questions

Yes you can both progress the story from the start.

Yes the guest can level up.

Yes the guest can unlock story achievements.(See below for more info on this though)

No the story progress only saves for the host but all money and pp earned as well as any progress towards achievements earen will be saved for both players.

Ok so achievement time.

Survivor related achievements apart from escort 8 people at once can only be earned by the host.

All kills are the individuals and the guests kills DO NOT carry into their own game.

Only the host gets the achievement for spraying the zombrex poster.

Most importantly what each person does is unique to them so getting kills with certain weapons is only for that person

What he said. If it doesnt have to be done in one sitting, but player two cant save. How in the name of hades does it work?

Player 2 can save. When player 1 saves on their HDD, player 2 gets kicked. The game has an issue reading the HDD thereby kicking people. The only way around this is saving to a flash drive instead of your HDD. If you don't have one, player 1 or the host should only save in restrooms not when the game prompts them to.

Actually that is not true about having a save on your hard drive. My coop partner and I both have hard drives on our Xbox. We played and saved many times, over many nights.

The way we save every single time... "GUEST" saves first!, then "host" player saves second. Worked almost every single time (and we play most every night). We both got "Clean Record", at the same time, at the end of our first play-through. We may have been kicked from the game 1 in every 30 saves, which is better than every time.

Also, whenever you get prompted to save after a cutscene, DO NOT SAVE, just pick "Continue" and go immediately to a bathroom save point.

We got both "Clean Record" and "Better With a Friend" achievements, on our first play-through. Our 1st play-through was one in which we played the ENTIRE game together. He was the "host" and he did not do anything unless we were both on!! This is key if you are trying to get "Hero of Fortune City"... do NOT do anything without your coop partner. Found this out the hard way on our second play-through when I did one thing without him (played and beat the poker players in Atlantica Casino, but then waited for my coop partner to come into the game for us BOTH to take the poker players back to the safe house).

When we finished the game the second time I had gotten "Hero..." and he did NOT (we checked our Notebook and for both of us it said 65 survivors saved). We both got the "Saving the Day" achievement (10 survivors) together, but I have a feeling that because we played that entire first night together (with saves at points during that initial play-through) and did not quit and restart, this is what enabled us to get that achievement together. Not positive. You are definitely asking for trouble though if you are going to attempt to get the "Hero of Fortune City" in coop as the "guest", over multiple nights of play.

This has got to be the worst prgrammed COOP in gaming history. Just played it through with my cousin and guess what? I didn't get jack shit - but he did. We did all stuff together. He didn't do one file on his own (he was host). He got it, I didn't. Thanks Capcom for wasting about 8 hours of my life....

As far as I know, the only thing that won't unlock are the survivor achievements but to all your above questions, the answer is yes.

You can get the 8 survivors(so I've heard), do you mean the notebook and combo cards won't populate?

And my friend hosted and saved in his game the other day and it didn't kick me

Agreed. We have killed seven psychopaths and neither of us has unlocked the achievement. Its amazing that the whole getting kicked thing has not been sorted yet. Is there any news on a future patch?

And I know some people are not experiencing the problem. My brothers mate has played through the game 3-4 times with a pal in co-op, saving over 50 times and neither has been kicked once. It jut seems a bit random.

I know that for doing the psychopath achievements in co-op, each psychopath kill only counts for one of you and you have to be the one who finishes them off (you can tell who did by which co-op Chuck it shows in the death cutscene) in order for it to count for you.

My coop partner and I got these achievements ("Vigilante Justice" and "Judge, Jury and Executioner") at the exact same time. We did this over multiple nights, over multiple saves.

I just think that the achievements can be very glitchy when attempted in coop.

See my glitch rant (and example) in this thread:

As far as I can tell, coop achievement unlocking system SUCKS

I (the guest) and my friend (host) finished coop story last night.

He ended up unlocking the killing 10 psychos and saving 10 survivors.

I did not.

WhY?

Coz, when being the guest, you will need to save 10 survivors ON THE ONE ONLY GAME. If you quit and save, then all the survivors progress is LOST. Meaning you save 9 guys, then quit, and save 6 more, you will not get the achievement.

The same goes for killing the psychos.. And it does not affect who gets to give him the last blow.. if you just stand there and your partner kills him, you both get the kill.

Anyways, in order to get these two achievements I am going to start a new campaign with my L34 character and do them as fast as I can.

But it's kinda kick in the nuts the way this game saves.

Not to mention that you don't get to save your kills when invited.

How are we supposed to get to 72,000 then??? HUGE COMPLAIN TO THE CREATOR XD

I agree with you about the survivors progress not saving, but like I said in my post, my coop partner and I played the first time (he was the "host" and I was the "guest"), over MANY nights, with MANY saves (he saved over the same slot and I saved over the same slot, which may be what is necessary for this to work... I have seen this mentioned in many threads). We both got the 10 psychos achievement ("Judge, Jury and Executioner") at the EXACT same time. It popped for both of us at the exact same time. So I would have to disagree with you about the psychos not carrying over with each save.

I am really starting to think that this whole idea of making sure that you always save over the same slot when playing in coop is the answer. My coop partner always did when he was the "host" and we go that achievement. I used all three save slots when I was the "host" and I got "Hero of Fortune City" and he DID NOT. We made sure to bring every single survivor back to the safe house together and yet he did not get it (we played a third time with him as the "host" to get him his "Hero of Fortune City" though).

We also got "Father of the Year" together over many nights, over many saves (again though, he did it to the same save slot every time).

There is a whole thread on how to use the SUV to get the 72K kills (which still is difficult, but doable... must be in ONE PLAY-THROUGH). Do a search. I am at over 40K kills right now, but a little behind schedule :-( hoping I can make up some to get back on track :-)

By the way if you need any help getting any of the achievements I would gladly help as the "guest". I have almost everything, so I don't need to do anything that might slow you down. Send me a message here on this site and I will see if our playing times line up (I generally start each night around 9 pm EDT).

Good luck!
