Which Pre-Order?

Recommended Posts

I'm kind of torn here.

As has been posted on [thread=234211]another thread[/thread], Gamestop's offering a set of Cosmic Spider-Man skins as a pre-order exclusive:

"Unravel a unique Cosmic costume for each universe, totaling 4 all-new costumes for the game. Add to your arsenal of moves with a signature charge attack that only Cosmic Spider-Man can do!"

Here are the pics, including a cool new one of the Cosmic Noir costume:

However, the Iron Spider costume will be a bonus for an Amazon.com pre-order:

Pre-order
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
and get an exclusive book featuring concept art, character renders, environments and more from the
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
video game across 4 different Spider-Man universes. The book will be included in pack when the game ships. Additionally, receive a code to unlock the unique Iron Spider-Man costume for 2099. The Iron Spider-Man code will be included in the Exclusive Concept Art Book.

Here are some in-game pics I posted in the [thread=223152]Costumes thread[/thread], plus a new concept art pic:

I always thought the Captain Universe concept was super-cheezy, and the costumes look silly to me. But you get four of them, playable in all four universes, and they come with a unique in-game attack.

I really liked the look of the Iron Spider costume, and at first thought I'd definitely go Amazon...but now I'm thinking:

  • It's missing the mech arms (see below). I realize they couldn't make them do much, but they'd still look cool and could maybe factor into a special move.
  • Speaking of which, there's no mention of Iron Spider having a special move.
  • Iron Spider is only playable in the 2099 universe.
  • Needless to say, I could care less about the art book.

So it's looking like the Gamestop pre-order for me. What do you guys think?

Hey, I just noticed: "Get a code to unlock immediately" on the Kmart & Best Buy ads. I'm guessing these costumes will be in the code from the start, and that you can unlock them by reaching certain goals (I've read there are "15 challenges on each level") but the Kmart or Best Buy pre-orders let you access them from the start. All the more reason to go with another pre-order.

I think the one thing that tipped me toward Gamestop remains in the lead: the costumes may be lame, but there are four, playable in all dimensions and they include a unique move. From what we've heard so far, that's the only in-game benefit...

But how could they throw you Spider Armor without that affecting something like damage taken or max health? The bonuses that might accompany the other skins are less obvious, but there must be something...right?

Oh wow. Yeah, according to wiki (though dunno what source) all of the costumes are unlockable except the Cosmic suit.

If you look at the Wii page for the game, it says "unlock" Iron Spider.

Also, the official page: http://spidermandimensions.marvel.com/#/pre-order

It says "unlock code" for Iron Spider-Man, but the Cosmic ones just says "exclusive".

Wii version at Amazon has Iron Spider-Man pre-order, but Cosmic Spider-Man is only on PS3/360 versions (which would make sense if you download it).

Kmart and BestBuy don't have any info on the game/pre-orders yet, but now I am starting to think I should pre-order the Gamestop one, since it seems the others are unlockable.

EDIT:

Also, I can't tell, but it looks like each of the newly unveiled 4 costumes are specific to universes.

Negative Zone looks like it is for Noir and Scarlet Spider looks like 2099, and then I would guess Spider-Armor and Mangaverse for Amazing and Ultimate respectively.

So I wonder if there are even more costumes in the game (so that they all have an even amount, if 2099 is getting Scarlet and Iron).

You sir are a smart cookie and correct you are... I've found through google and other sources, that Iron Spider-Man will be available after beating the game. Other suits will be gained from challenges and various special tasks. They also said that you cannot possibly do all the challenges or unlock all the suits in one play-through. So it adds extra incentive for replay value. However just like said other suit you gain immediate access with the code. That in mind Gamestop's suits are the only true exclusive skin for the game as of yet.

However as another poster said I have a deep hatered for Gamestop and all they stand for. With Amazon I will probably sell my code on eBay to some dim-wit (I made 15$ on my Mass Effect 2 code from Amazon xD). Also with that in mind, I decided to order from Amazon cause while the Gamestop Cosmic costumes are cool, the artbook offered with Amazon is too good to pass up (plus shipping is free :). I'm not expecting something hardback or huge but anything that is a physical bonus and has to do with the art of a comic book hero...I mean who could pass that up? :D

I'm not contending that my logic is perfect but I think I make a good argument for Amazon vs. Gamestop right? Worse comes to worse and you want them all you can always buy the codes of eBay. ^^

I hate these preorder boni, makes you need to decide. Also, usualy they're not available outside the states anyways.

Ah well, I'd have to flip a coin between Csomic and Scarlet Spider. I miss some variants on Spider-Carnage, though. And the Amazin Bag-Man, off ocurse.

I say the one from gamestop. Whats the point in getting the others if you can unlock them later on?
Valid point, but I'm getting mine from Amazon for the simple "tangible" art book. I don't expect it to be hardback or anything fancy, although something like that on a small scale would be awesome and sit on my desk, but that said that's why I'm going with Amazon + free shipping is good times.

I'm hoping to sell my code to some chump that will pay 5$ if not more for it ^^

I would get both of them then and only open the gamestop one and try to exchange the other one for a different game.

I actually contacted one of the game's developers on this one going through my own pre-order crisis (I was entirely set to go with K-Mart as I started being a devoted Spidey comics fan right about the time Scarlet made his debut in the midst of the clone saga, so I'm a little biased. But when I checked the K-Mart website it was out of stock, so I was freaking out a bit.). According to him, all but the cosmic suits are unlockable in-game, so I went with the Gamestop down the road to get those.
