Damn this game is hard

When you play Dead Rising 2 and you return to this game after DR2 then you will realize how hard this game truely is. Dead Rising 2 is a joke compared to this.

I had to restart so often today(I got it today) and I killed 10000 Zombies for the achievement and to get a higher lvl. Now I am lvl 17, just started to play the story and damn is is it still hard.

The Zombies are insane! INSANE!! Even at daylight they are aggressive as fuck and kill you before you can get from one side of a plaza to another. They grab you and damage you no matter how you try to outrun them, and unlike in DR2 every Zombie is mad as hell here. I remember just walking around throught Zombies the whole day in DR2 and chilling out in the casinos. Well that won't work here. The Zombies are true enemies now, and they will eat you. No fucking mercy!

The Psychos are also a lot harder than in DR2. Right at the start of the game you have to face Cletus and the convicts. Its like a huge dildo unlubed up your anus...well at least I think so. IN DR2 you could just go to the weapon store and grab you weapons that are important. But here in DR1, in order to get some good stuff and have a better chance to survive you need to defet that fat neckbeard Cletus first, and he will tear you apart. No psycho in DR2 is that hard! And if that wasn't enough you can't walk through the park and save people because the convicts will fuck you and the other up. And they are also damn hard to kill.

How should a beginner like me deal with all that bullshit? Im getting raped at every corner, no matter where I go. I see why they made DR2 so much more easy, because people most likely had big troubles.

Now with lvl 17 I killed Cletus and the Convicts and I am so happy about this! I hope the hardest part is over now. If only the gun aiming was a little better...

Edit: Just tried to save some survivors. I feel this game is a little too hard, it takes some fun away.

Why don't you just go into the maintenance tunnels and level yourself up before you play the game?

I did it like that and it made it a lot easier. You have more health, items, deal more damage and learn some interesting hand-to-hand combat moves. ;)

Thats what I did till I got lvl 16, then I got tired of it. the main problem are the Zombies, walking through North Plaza is next to impossible. And the Zombies also kill all survivors before they even can move, and most of the time they don't move at all but just punch a zombie until 20 of them come and eat them.

This game is definitly a nice challenge, but I don't think I will ever go for the Saint achievement. I don't want to bother saving 2 people because its insane, saving 50 seems like a bad joke to me. Maybe I will get used to it, I don't know. I just hope Dead Rising 2 with Frank West will not be that hard.

(some slight spoilers)

If you want to make this game a GREAT deal easier, then just go back to the tunnels and complete the Zombie Genocider achievement. Once you kill the 50K+ zombies and unlock it, have Frank wait somewhere safe until time runs out (like the helipad) and then save the game after the ending. Then, on your next playthrough, you will have access to the Real Mega Buster in the Security Room to use once you get there in the New Game+. This weapon will make mincemeat out of any psychopaths you come across and kills a zombie with one blast. It has 300 shots per spawn and you can respawn it by dropping it outside of the Security Room and then going inside to pick up a fresh one, very handy.

If you don't want to go quite that cheap, then just do a few things that could help:

-If traveling outside, stick to the walls while escorting people (or even just alone). If you stick to the walls to get to where you are going, you have a good chance of avoid a ton of the zombies and maybe even the Convicts. Be sure to set waypoints ahead of you for the Survivors to go to along the wall instead of just having them follow you with the Y command. That way, you're not having everyone stay behind while you save one or two of them.

-For the Convicts, they get stuck on trees a lot, you can use this to your advantage to slip by or to kill them. They will respawn eventually, but if you just want some momentary peace. You can even try using that picnic area and hope they get stuck on one of those beams there. Once stuck, watch out for the minigun and either strike them with your own firearm or get a strong melee like the Katana and slice them up. Not necessary to do this, but just make sure you have healing and have saved recently since this can go horribly wrong. Oh yeah, and save often, but not so much that you back yourself into a corner. Use a flash drive as a second save slot if you can.

-Make sure you complete the Out of Control scoop in Wonderland Plaza. Just like Wilted Flower in DR2, this gives you access to a shortcut that Greg will lead you to. With this, you can skip going outside most of the time and avoid the Convicts. This mission also gives you access to the Small Chainsaws, arguably the best weapon in the game (very fast and damaging). You can increase its durability with the Criminal Biography, Engineering and/or Entertainment (?) books. Use at least 1 early on if you can, all 3 if you have enough inventory slots, it lasts for quite a while with all 3.

-For Cletus, if you have the Small Chainsaws, then you have all but won. Hide behind the display cases (carefully) and wait for him to need to reload. Then walk up to the counter and slice him quickly from there. With luck, you can get him with just this. If not, set up for another try and hopefully you brought healing. Alternatively, make a mad dash for a Sniper Rifle and shoot him from outside when he tosses you out. Again, good healing (like a mixed drink or wine) is good.

-North Plaza travel is pretty hectic sometimes, but just stick to the scaffolding when you're alone to help. With Survivors, you just have to set a waypoint far ahead and try to clear a path for them. There is a blade shop there for some Katanas/Cleavers (if you don't have the Chainsaws or don't want to use them up). Queens are also your best friend here. You can usually find some other strong weapons around (Mannequin Torsos are quite strong single target melee weapons). You should pretty much avoid taking a big group this here anyway, don't think you ever "have to". The 3 that spawn with Cliff are right near the exit and going outside to Paradise Plaza isn't that far. The one guy that needs to be carried can be gotten alone with ease (while carrying someone, you can pretty much just walk past zombies with little to no opposition).

Can't think of anything else, but hopefully you can get through it soon enough. ;)

Fuck it, I have to fight Brock now, and I hate this game by now. How should you defeat Brock when he is throwing you down into the undead crowd as soon as he gets close to you? the tank has so little space to move and there is no way to execute fighting moves properly, mainly because he just blocks Jump kick and knee drop...roundhouse kick never works anyway.

Why can't I keep my coffee and my small chainsaw? This is the dumbest boss fights in both DR and DR2.

Besides, Otis didn't call me for Jo the Cop and the cult event. I did every scoop there was and got rid of every survivor and then when "Above the law" and "a Strange Group" should show up my scoop log was empty and there was nothing to do. Still it didn't show up! That fuck ruined like 4 achievements for me I was going for. Why didn't it show up?

I am really tired of that game. I don't even want to start a new Playthrought to get some other achievements. In DR2 it was fun to get all the cheevos except online and I wanted to keep playing long after I finished everything...but THIS just sucks.

I'm not sure what level you are, but I used the Double Lariat move a lot against Brock while standing on the lower level of the tank. I'm almost done with all the achievements in this game and I hate to tell you, but it requires multiple playthroughs. I did Transmissionary and Saint on separate playthroughs, but looking back it could be done on one. You probably didn't get a calll for either scoop mission because there were 8 survivors alive somewhere in the mall. You won't receive calls from Otis if there are 8 survivors alive whether they are there from scoop missions or the few that just randomly appear at certain times.

for brock, you can drink some spitfire right before the fight and then just spit all over him.

I know this is probably way too late, but if you run straight to the Gun Shop immediately after the massacre in entrance plaza then Cletus won't be there. Allowing you to fight Cletus with an assortment of shotguns and rifles.

Thats interesting, I thought either North plaza or just the gun shop was locked until a certain point in the game when u had to fight Cletus. Either way, It's so much easier to just start the game going after Zombie Genocider. I saved the couple on the roof then beat Carlito in the Food Court. Then, I went and picked up the two Horror Novels (Bachman's Bookporium in PP and The Sinister Read in EP which is why I beat Carlito).

After I got the achievement I had about 24 hours left in the game and I was at LV 35. So I just rode out the rest of the time in the safe room getting indoorsman and I will start the second run of the game with the RMB and every boss will be easy until the end.

That's funny about someone mentioned that you could go through the maintence tunnels right away to get 53k zombie kills to get a RMB in a first playthrough which I did not do that in first place. I did not know about it. I could have done it but I did in a legit way to beat it in my first playthrough and it took me a long time to get 50 levels. It took me 4 playthroughs to get all achievements including 5-7 day survivor and transmissionary/saint achievement in 1 run.

Sure, this game is a bitch and could rape you in anytime no matter what conditions you are in as long you are very calucated and carefully with what you need to do in order to survive.

OP, I know you are frustrating but this game test your patience and your insanity whether you are aiming for 1k or not, remember that.

probably late but best thing to do is go to the tunnels right at the start and do the genocider achievement, you'll be close to lv50 and you'll have the best weapon in the game, then go wait on the rooftop for the game to finish.

then start a real story game and kill the psychos and convicts with the megaman blaster, makes the game easier

I just used Jump Kick and Bycycle kicks over and over on him ;)

This game is pretty tough when it comes to achivements as you almost have to work for every non story related acivement.

Yeh having only played this a month ago after having played all the other ones first, this is definitely the toughest one. Not just because the game mechanics weren't as well refined as the other games, the survivor AI sucking so badly and the zombies grabbing you all the time compared to the later games, there were also no combo weapons, but saying that with enough katanas and the Criminal biography book it was never too difficult for the most part. Even better once you had the mini chainsaws and the Criminal Biography, Entertainment and Engineering books you had two weapons which would last you the entire game!

What made this game much easier for me as well was getting the Zombie Genocider achievement out of the way first, not only was I level 40'ish by the time I'd finished the game for the first time I also had the Mega Buster for my second play through which made extremely short work of all bosses and psychopaths.

Still can't bring myself to getting those five and seven day survivor achievements though, just can't be arsed to sit there for ten plus hours to get them.

This was one of my first 360 game and the only one I did not finish(story). Now I feel compelled to beat it, part OCD & part pride. From what I remember this game was impossible, don't think I made it past day 1. Going to try the method mentioned above(farming kills for levels to get the blaster).
